The main reason it's doing so well now is because Surgebinders and Feruchemists ignored it until caught up.

You win a duel by seeing what your opponent will do and countering it, not just having more Stormlight or attributes stored. You get better at it by practicing drawing for hours; no one is really instinctively better than anyone else. Also, I think it's cool.
