Tin vs Pewter and the "Extra" Human Senses
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Kaymyth's topic in Mistborn
Well, when running full speed over rough terrain, the pewter version of balance would keep you from stumbling. The tin version would still have you fall flat on your face, but you'd really feel when. A couple of years back, I had a disease that affected my nervous system. I've still got a pretty good sense of balance, but because I haven't got enough control over the muscles in my hips I can't act on it. (that's actually gotten better over time, but I won't be doing any parkour any time soon) -
returned Priests refuse to tell how returned die. Why?
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Greyswandir's topic in Warbreaker
Telling the Returned about their former lives could also cause them to fixate on those. It also becomes harder for the Returned to critique art, listen to petitions and talk about their dreams when they're running all over the city because they want to spend time with their (unremembered) family (or possibly find the person who killed them). If they go outside of the city, wandering about, they would also be unable to sit on the assembly of the gods. Knowledge of their former lives also does not always hold a clue to their purpose for Returning, case in point Lightsong: he returned to prevent Hallandren going to war (more or less), which knowledge of his former life might actually have distracted him from. If he were instead chasing the last embezzler he audited before dying, for example. Not always. Take Calmseer, for example, she returned because she wanted to heal her daughter from a disease, she was able to do that because she was kept in the Court of Gods, listening to petitions. Any system will have its flaws in the end, arguments can be made for letting the Returned roam free, but also for keeping them sequestered. -
The Unforgable Metal
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Stormgate's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Oh bother! Missed that one. However, note that Brandon says 'most related' to the Spiritual realm, not that Forgery acts directly on the Spiritual realm. (Just yanking you chain here ) It just always seemed to me that Forgery acts by changing an object's perception of itself, which is cognitive. That has as a major side-effect that you add or remove Spiritual connections. I wasn't claiming that there isn't any Spiritual involvement in Forgery, just that I always felt that it actively works more on the cognitive. -
Tin vs Pewter and the "Extra" Human Senses
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Kaymyth's topic in Mistborn
Well, the 5 "classical" senses are the ones with obvious sensory organs. Maybe those are the only ones tin can enhance? The other are either purely mental (I'm thinking passage of time here) or in a gray area in between (balance, hunger...) (I'm pretty sure thermoception is treated as a part of touch in Mistborn, i.e. Spook and burning buildings, and pain as an overload of any one of the other senses) But to make any definitive conclusions, we'd need to know exactly how tin works. Does it enhance the senses by making the sensory organs able to gather more input? Does it enhance the nerves transmitting that data to the brain? Or does it enhance the brain to better process said data? (It could also be any combination of those three, but that makes it harder to draw any conclusions) Any of those options has different implications on the possible enhancement of additional senses. -

Is that 100% sure? I agree that it's very likely, but do we have confirmation on it? -

That would be... so mean! (also, OreSeur = DecEased) -
Did you just compare the Skybreakers to a rugby team whose plane crashed in the Andes?

The Unforgable Metal
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Stormgate's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
My theory: Forgery changes the Physical by changing the cognitive, which may have an effect on the Spritual. Soulcasting changes the Physical by changing the Spiritual, which definitely has an effect on the Cognitive. I have no idea how this affects aluminum's investiture weirdness. -
Worlhopping and duralumin Feruchemy
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Oversleep's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I think it's the kind of connection that makes the 'life-sense' on Nalthis work. The feeling of there being someone else in a room when you can't hear or see them. So when filling a duraluminmind, someone with perfect life sense would probably not be able to sense you, so you'd seem like a drab. When you're tapping connection, they would think you have lots and lots of Breaths. (I think) -
Hemalurgy in the cosmere
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Lord Ruler's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yeah... IIRC the focus on Nalthis is "commands", not "colour". (and good luck getting a command in contact with flowing blood ) We know with certainty that Hemalurgy is the magic system based on/linked to the shard Ruin. We know that magic systems arise due to the presence of a shard on a specific planet. We know that the focus for a magic system is determined by the planet the system arose on. (otherwise Hoid would have had to burn powdered gems to use Allomancy on Roshar, right?) So even though Hemalurgy can be used cosmere-wide, by people from any planet, I think spikes would be made out of metal anywhere, since Hemalurgy came into being because of Ruin's presence on Scadrial (where metals are the focus for magic). -
Don't know them off the top of my head either. I was constantly comparing with the coppermind. The link is in my previous post here.

theory Thoughts about Enhancement metals
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Eagle of the Forest Path's topic in Mistborn
I think that's in the annotations for TFE somewhere, but I might be mistaken. Mr. Sanderson basically just needed it to work like that. If aluminum only got rid of metals actively being burned, it would be even more useless. Couldn't be used to "incapacitate" captures allomancers for instance, like the inquisitors did with Vin in Kredik Shaw. Might have something to do with breath being (mainly) in the Spiritual realm and metal being (mainly) in the Physical. -
theory Thoughts about Enhancement metals
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Eagle of the Forest Path's topic in Mistborn
Could you rephrase that first part? I'm not quite getting what point you're trying to make. I think it's possible that you lose breaths by burning aluminum, but not always. I believe it depends on how much you consider the breaths to be part of yourself. If you consider the dozen breaths you got a week ago as a foreign entity, aluminum would probably banish them. If you've got a dozen breaths that you've held on to for a decade, have gotten completely used to them and see them as part of who you are, I think it's likely that burning aluminum would leave them alone. -
theory-questions Mechanisms governing Surgebinding
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Oversleep's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmmm. Did anyone ever bother to wonder whether every order of Radiants actually used shardplate? -
As your mass becomes lower, wind resistance plays a bigger role. So for going as fast as possible, it would actually be a handicap.
-
Shards tend to fall back on their intent when there isn't a mind controlling it, though. I doubt the selection of Aonic people to become Elantrians is purely random, it doesn't fit with the rest of the cosmere. Edit: For more info, you might want to look at this thread.

The Unforgable Metal
Eagle of the Forest Path replied to Stormgate's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I don't know... Forgery already has some restrictions on changing what something is made out of. It'd be impossible to Forge wood into aluminum, for instance. There just isn't a way to explain why a log of oak, grown in a particular forest, would actually be a lump of rare metal. Another metal might be possible, but there would have to be a plausible scenario to explain why the miners who dug up the ore got aluminum instead of copper. (compare the lead to gold explanation from the book) The easiest way to create aluminum this way might be stamping a work of art. Change history so that a sculpture decided to cast his statue out of aluminum instead of bronze. Still not very likely, due to the cost of aluminum with Sel-level technology, but it is possible. -
Yup. They're also here. The unknowns are the last 4.

True. Also, we don't know what the special effect is from being both a Slider and a Bloodmaker.

Sparkly vampires nauseate me, so it's not Twilight. Next clue: The former acrophobe borderline cheats on his wife with a tiny person. -

Indeed it isn't. Next hint: The acrophobe's first love interest is the grandmother of the woman he eventually marries. -
The symbol in the bottom left corner is actually the map representation of Kredik Shaw and there's also Malatium (3rd column, 4th row) The Harmonium symbol was actually on the access badges (or something like it) for a recent event, someone might link the relevant thread. It's not on the decal sheet.
