Hello, first time poster here and I just had a few thoughts regarding the 4th ideal of the windrunner's with the newest release of Oathbringer chapters.

For the most part the windrunner's ideals have related to the flaws in Kaladin's character that he has to overcome.

This ideal, I believe, is related to enabling/trusting/inspiring others to protect and not taking on the full burden on your own, as Kaladin's tends to do.

In the case of bridge 4, Kaladin has been able to trust all of them (excluding Moash) with the task of protecting the Kholins, and now they are squires. If not an ideal, then I then I think that "trust" is at the very least the bond that creates squires.

Chapter 7 confirmed that he imagined Laral as unable to protect herself, and fantasized about coming back to save her. Come to find out she was more than capable on her own. This came of as a shock to him.

I think that Kaladin needs to learn that he is not capable of protecting every one on his own. He is getting close with the fact that he left Hearthstone (and Roshone of all people) to themselves. I fully expect something to come up that will cause him to regret this decision and "fail" as always. (The events at Hearthstone went a little to smoothly, and it makes me suspicious)

I think the ideal would be something like this.

"I will trust others to protect those I can not"

I like this theory a lot.

Somehow his fourth ideal has to give at least some solution to his dilemma that he might be protecting the wrong people by killing those that are actually right in the conflict. He can't swear to protect people at all cost, because it will put others in danger.
I always thought it would be something like:

"I will protect the people from themselves, so they won't be destroyed by themselves".

But i think i like yours better.

  2. Hi,

I haven't followed the forum in a while. But i remember there beeing a worldhopper from Nhaltis somwhere in the cosmere. I think i maybe found her:

    Spoiler

Taravangians interludes include a Woman named Maben as his cook / maid.
In the Warbreaker Prolouge there is a woman named Mab who is the kitchen mistress  for the king of Idris.
She tells Siri that the king is looking for her.

Could this be the same person?
It would make sense for a worldhopper to hide in a similar occupation since they have to do a good job not to get thrown out.
    Maybe vivenna brought her?

I don't know if anyone has propoused this already. At least i didn't find anything.

    Let me hear your thoughts

The Oathbringer Prologue gives an answer to the question whether Parshendi have a gemheart or not. I'll put it in spoiler tags, it hasn't been discussed right now, yet:

In my opinion, this indicates that Parshendi do have gemhearts and they apply their forms by capturing gemhearts in them. One can only speculate on the consequences to the War of Reckoning, if the Alethi had known about this.

@Shaukan-son-Hasweth Very good theorizing, one and a half year before readings from Oathbreaker, and on the point. Fabrials use Stormlight like greatshells and Parshendi - captured spren in a gemstone(heart).

    Thank you!

I havent spent any time on here for almost a year, and almost forgot about this post.
The moment i read this line in Oathbringer i was so hyped.

  4. I know this might be completely irrelevant but:

In Rithmantist's alternate earth all native nordamerikans fled to southamerika because of the chalklings. But if the settlers from Britannia never met those tribes, why did they call one island "Dakote"??

And to everybody from north america: would your home be under water in the rhitmantist map?

  5. Well there is the music the nobles dance to at their parties. I don't think that the skaa sang much.

The keepers would have many songs stored in their metalminds.

We know that lighteyed women sing (shallan was asekd for songs by jasnah)and they pkay innstruments. Flutes for example if i remember right.

  6. My favorite character is probably Shallan, and the scene where she kills Tyn stands out,

I loved this scene. I read it over and over again.

Another good scene is when eshonai returns to speak to her people in the interlude, it gave me gees bumps.

My favorite Charakter is jasnah. She is a rational sholar but still very human. What i like most about her is that in multible scenes she relizes she had been unfair to shallan and apollogises.

The best scene with her is when she reveals her theory about the parshmen beeing the voidbringers.

I read SA in german and i have to say the translation is really well done in all those scenes.

  7. As we know Koloss are still around in the AoL era.

Sazed changed them to be a true breeding race.

But i always thought all koloss are male. Did sazed give half of them a sex-change?

What is the difference between a normal scadrian receiving spikes and a koloss child acepting them?

We know from the AoL prologe that humans an koloss are still fighting each other (it's mentioned that they destroyed the city bloody tan is hiding in) do koloss know how to use hemalurgy? Do they create more spikes?

And since Brandon likes to think about religions, do they worship harmony?

I'd love to read more about modern koloss, but they don't really appear again.

Is there somone else who still cares about them?

  8. I see no reason why someone can't be a savant with power granted through a spike.

Becoming a savant is your body beeing changed by preservation because you used so much of it's power.

There's a WoB that states that the ascension is the same as beeing a lerasium savant.

But vins earring keeps her from ascending even when she touches the well of ascension while wearing it.

That's why i think there could be an interference between preservation and ruin somehow.

  9. I read a topic about savantism being transferable by hemalurgy.

I had another question but i couldn't find a thread about it.

Can you become a savant,if the ability to burn the metal only comes from a hemalurgic spike?

What happens if the spike is removed or replaced by an other spike that grants the same ability?

I think in case of tin you would be expierence the same thing sppok had without it.

But i have ni reason to believe so.

    What do you think.

  10. Hi

While looking around the coppermind I found some interesting things in diffrent topics and I wanted to have one to connect all those bits of information.

-there are rosharan spren in the cognitive realm of scadrial

-someone is searching for speaking tools.( BoM broadsheet)

    - there may be a listener on scadrial (SoS broadsheet)

    - a new godmetal spike has been found.

What if those spren (maybe void spren) cant manifest in the scarian physical realm like they do on roshar? Maybe they can only apear as bits of metals, could be they chose tool form to get people to use them. So they are less invested shardtools. Could a listener have come to scadrial with a metal spren and spiked someone?

I know that I have no evidence that those facts are related. I just found it very suspicious!

Let me hear your speculations and thoughts.

  11. How do we even know that kandra are attracted to anything.

They depend on mistwraiths to reproduce so I don't think they have sex in general. Like the spikes of an inquisitor makes there body reform, blessings could make a mistwraith an asexual kandra.

And I believe that at least during the first era love and attraction would be considerd to be human therefore caotic and not fitting a kandra.

  12. Well, brandon still writes fantasy. I think we all agree thqt the realmantic theory doesn't apply in real life.

So whatever Sanderson may say about this topic doesn't influence us.

As long as the question is more relatet to how it interacts with magic than when it has it's own identity or at wich point it is a human there shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe a human gets access to magic as soon as it has its own blood flow.

We know from hemalurgy that blood is important in the spiritual aspect.

  13. As we know from vin's case, babies can snap before/during birth. Therefore it has to have the identety required for getting invested.

The interesting thing here is. Babies have a different sDNA the

Than the mother but they kind of share a body.

But it would be useful to humanity if an investet woman could use her abilities to protect her child.

    Stormlight spoilers

I have a theory that when transforming to mateform, the now fertile listener (woman??) Bonds actually two spren. At birth her body releases one for her child to take up to give it it's first form.

Assuming the listeners don't lay eggs or something.

Because we honestly don't know that for shure :-)

  14. A topic about babies beeing born in the cognitive realm lead me to think more about how magic would affect pregnant women and their unborn little wonders.

Does iron/gold feruchemy affect the child?

Can babies recieve breath before birth?

Do the basic emotins unborn babies have attract spren?

What would happen to the baby when the mother would be taken by the shaod after the reod.?(I think it would die :( )

Im curious what you think about them.

  15. I'm sorry, but breaking oaths to return Honor? Seems counter intuitive.

Not by breaking it, more like all radiants comming together fusing their spren to become honor.(they are splinters of his mind after all. It kills the individual spren but restres honor.

I have no profable reason to assume so I just do...

  16. Someone is going to become Honor. I don't know who, though.

    I don't think that's going to happen.

It was done in mistborn and I would be disappointed if Sanderson would do that on every shardworld.

I habe the very vage theory that the knights radiant will kill their spren by putting them back together to restore honors mind or something like that.

  17. Well no.

You can't really find equivalents on earth. Horneaters do have an epiphanic fold (and dark skin?).

And herdazians have violet eyes and crystal fingernails.

PS: you listet nationalities. A black person can be german and a white one japanese.

But im shure you didn't want to imply something I just wanted to point it out.
