After reading "Edgedancer" on a very long train ride today i noticed that Lift insisting that Wyndel is a caputred voidbringer most likely isn't just her usual nonsense talk.
The concept that you can capture a voidbringer and make it serve you, could stem from the enslavement of the parshmen.

And lastly, Bendalloy/Bendalloy. We know how awesome speeding up time is, but imagine the compounding. You never have to eat again. One meal, and then you start compounding until you never need to eat again. Same with drinking. But you like eating you say? Just shunt the extra calories into a Bendalloy metalmind. Never go above your calorie goals for the day, stay fit forever and eat whatever you want. Or, never eat again.
I like the thought. But Bendalloy Metal minds would suuupet impractical. The melt in hot water

This is hard.
I want almost all Feruchemical powers and don't care much about allomancy.
Ferruchemical Duralumin seems awesome from what we ahve seen in BoM. It could be very useful for travelling etc.
It think it would go well with Emotional Allomancy but, i would feel bad using it
Allomantic pewter seems like a good choice generally. It's an alrounder and you just have to be careful not to overuse.
But i makes you heal faster, stronger, resistant to exhaustion and fatigue.
I wouldn't want an allomantic power that involves any precious metals.

Granted.

I wish to have the abilities of a Kandra

Just like the title says. Can you awake something complete darkness?
If there is no light than there is no colour?
I think this question is important to how awakening works on a fundamental level. What actually is consumed as fuel in the process.

Yeah that makes sense.
The namedrop made me suspicious. It was ambiguous enough to be misleading.
It was worth a shot

Hello,
Please excuse if this is common knowledge already but i couldn't find a thread about this. Nor is it in the coppermind
i just finished Oathbringer again. And i think it mentions cultivations name.
I only have the audiobook version so sadly i don't know how its spelled.
In the very last chapter, the one with Hoid. It mentions a woman floating in the air that he danced with thousands of years ago.
The name is Vatwa.
I think its talking about cultivation. He is seeing her avatar.

I don't think Harmony will interfere at all. The Kandras say he is very distracted in what we suspect to be holding off another shard.
He would see war as in line with his ruin side and allow it. Especially since he is so worried about the slow technological advances of the Northern Scadrians.
War is not said to be the father of all things for no reason. Alot of useful technology was originally developed to help war.

So
how many continents are there in total? One Nortern and one Southern doesn't sound like alot.
I'm also wonderin at what time we will see diffrent Nations forming. The people in the Roughs have formed a diffrent national identety and the outer Basin is not that happy with Elendels control anymore.
Do you think the terris will ever claim land for themselves again?0 -
Something always botherd me about Mistborn. And its the maps. For a conflict that affects an entire Planet, the final empire was very small.
You could travell through the entire Empire by boat in a matter of months
Now we know that this has a reason. At the time only this small portion of land near the poles was inhabitable.
But this has changed due to Harmonies Ascencion.
Brandon has said that Scadrial is very Earth like. The most Earth like of all in the Cosmere i believe. So i believed that it had the same size.
How big is the Elendel basin? How far has Civilisation come?.
I always imagined the entire Map in the Era 2 books to be about as big as Western Europe maybe. Or even smaller.
Or is it more like the Us?
If (just like on Earth) one third of the surface was Land. This would be but a tiny fraction of the world.
How big is that continet anyway? And How many are there? How far do the Rughs go? Which Climate zone is Elendel in?Is there a point with an Outer most Village that's just somwhere and they just haven't come further?
How big is the Southern Continet?
I would love to see a complete Globus of Scadrial at one Point.1 -

I get the feeling that Kadash wouldn't like Seinalan's view on religion, though I don't think either of them would have any major issues other than that. Maybe a bit of clashing over both being very devout to different religions.
Edgli and Susebron.
Well... I guess Egdli likes Susebronn since she returned him as a little Baby. I would guess she cares about him.He on the other hand doesn't know of her.

They both have a past that seems to cause them to compartmentalize their emotions. I think they would respect each other, but probably wouldn’t associate other than in battle.
Sarene and Evi
Sarene is one of those noblewomen who likes to see conversations as contest of wit.
Evi complains about exactly that to Dalinar.
Then again they are both pretty compassionate.
They like or hate each other.
No in between.

Hello
The last few days i've been thinking about surgebinding. Especially the spiritual effects of Surgebinding.
Danlinar can use Spiritual Cohesion to instinktively know the language of another person, and i was wondering if every surge has a spiritual use.
I think they have and that they are mostly passive abilites (exept for Dalinar). And the Use may be connected to the "Motto" of each order.
Adhesion:
Dalinar can bond to learn their language. Bringing people of diffrent backgrounds together.
Speculation: Did Kaladin passively used Spiritual Adhesion to bring bridge 4 together into a group that protects each other? Or maybe it was Spiritual Gravitation. or nothing at all
Gravitation:
don't really know. --> See CohesionDivision:
Skybreakers seem to have the ability to divide people into gulty and innocent iirc..
Abrasion:Speculation: Make yourself more or less noticable depending on how "slick" you make your spirit. Everybody seems to remember lift. Even when she is trying to be sneaky
Progression:
Speculation: peoples identity and connection to you grow over time as if tapping Aluminum/Duralumin.
Illumination:
All i can say to this is connected to Transformation
Transformation:
I think its more or less implied that Shallan is using Spiritual Transformation to make Bandids transform or wanting to transform into heroes. At the time she draws them how they could be it is tecnically still a lie(*cryptic humming*) which would make sense for the motto but if they want to they can transform more easily than a person without a radiant would.
Speculation: Since i think the Elsecallers Motto is truth or Knowlege, i would guess that they use Transformation to make people become their true self more and more, giving up their acts. Maybe that effekt made shallan slowly progress in her Radiancy again while beeing Jasnahs ward.Transportation:
no clue
Cohesion:
Make a spirit more flexible or more consistent.Tension:
no clue
Keep in mind that these are more random thoughts rather than a fully developed theory. All of those Effekts could be just due to personality. But maybe there is more to it.
Some might worry that all of those things beeing magic somehow takes away the credit from the caracter actions, but i think that it is merely enhancing the ability of people who are already extraordinary. It's like Breeze says that emotional allomancy has the same effekt as having a good appearance.
So let me hear your creative thoughts on this. Im always amazed what people on here come to think of.3 -
I think they would like each other. Togehter they could be talking about how annoying yet lovable their overly correct older Sisters are.
Shallan and Wayne.

I know that the Azish are not accepting in the canon. And that confused me...
Let's hope they learn from the Alethi in that regard.
SpoilerSo in Era 2 we get nobles (who kelsier wanted to wipe out in a genocide) that preach how homosexuality is wrong because Kelsier (who never even cared about anything like that) said so?
Well its so frustrating it could almost be real...

Although you worded the thread title in a way that makes it look like an erotic novel

Well there is a chapter about ardents reading an erotic novel. Thats the closest we got.
Honestly I think Sandersons books profit from a bit more romantic intimacy (not explicit scenes or something)
Because there is a lot of prostitution and rape mentioned in his works. Of course those things happen but without romance as a counter it makes sex look like something bad.

I was surprised Vorin didn't make a fuss out of it, since they're so obsessively conformist about other things. Not only the gender roles, but the prudishness, social stratification, and war culture... all of it makes me think they'd hate anything "different" because different.
Maybe Brandon already had the Christian analog religion in Mistborn Era 2 be against gay marriage, and he didn't want to do the same thing twice. Or maybe it's deliberately paradoxical and defying our expectations?
What?
wich Religion is openly anti gay in Mistborn BoM spoilers ahead
SpoilerNobody except wayne seems to be bothered by ranettes lifestyle.
Do surviverists care?
Or does the path forbid it?
I never thought gay marriage had even been mentioned.

Honestly, even before Shallan asked Adolin about that, I was wondering the same thing! I always think about basic biological processes in a fantasy book, it makes it less fantasy and more real! Thanks Brandon for making us ask the important questions! ;D
Oh, this is no fantasy. The mechanics adolin describes were very real problems for medival knights.
And they had the same solutions.

So Sigzil and Kaladin have a discussion about Drehys sexuality.
To me the roles felt oddly reversed.I woul expect the azish to allow various froms of marriage as long as the proper forms have been submitted.
The Alethi on the other hand... Their entire culture depends alot on gender specific roles.
Homosexual couples would have it hard in vorin culture. I mean to guys would be illiterate and two women couldn't trade or defend themselves.
Maybe it isn't that different for darkeyes but the lighteyes need marriage to fullfill their roles.
I just think it would have made more sense if Kaladin had been the uncomfortable one with Sigzil not understanding what the fuzz is about.
I just wanted to know if anybody else thought that was weird

I looked but I can't find the WoB on this.
But if i remember correctly, when someting looses its color due to awakening, this change happens in the spiritual realm. So i would guess its actually perception.

Savantism Effects
in Mistborn
Posted
Waxiliums steel bubble might be a savantism effect or it's a crasher thing.
I think Kelsiers ablility to push or pull on different parts of the same metalpiece was a savantism effect.
Electrum and Atium make the shadows go further than they normally would.
Aluminium savants could purge themselves of unwanted investiture (a shades touch)
