Yeah, Breeze was always quite fond of marinating himself, as TenSoon noted.

I have been trying to get my Kindle version of Elantris replaced since the tenth anniversary edition was released, but I'm getting stonewalled. Can anyone help?

Another thing: We now have context for 1) Hoid's reference to Ati's warped perspective and 2) why exactly Rayse splinters his victims instead of absorbing them. Because I don't see that pre-Ascension Sazed would ever condone the Lessie plot, at least, not the end of it.

Sixth of Dusk timeline/ones above Brandon Answers [Maybe spoilers]
Landis963 replied to ninch's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't believe it's the surges, per se, that are tied to Roshar. It's the Stormlight. Therefore, you need some way of storing it in fabrial-esque batteries, in much greater quantity than spheres can hold, and for longer. Knights Radiant wouldn't even be required, not really.- 50 replies

I just finished reading it about an hour ago, and I'm still slightly poleaxed from the emotional barrage. I completely missed the clues about Shardpool #3, assuming that the Pits of Hathsin are still, technically, in use, although I did notice the parshendi and that the pool was in fact a Shardpool. However, my main thoughts are that Harmony does not have as tight a grip on his Intent as he might like, if he plays the chessmaster as often as he appeared to. (Seriously, what in Damnation, Harmony?)

I've seen a theory swimming around that it could be Iyatil, as it seems to match the description of her mask in WoR.

[Spoilers] Elantris Anniversary Reactions
Landis963 replied to Chaos's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Wha-wha-wha-WHAT?! Dang, I need to get my e-copy updated, if that's in there. -
More than one spike allows Harmony to take over. More than one spike would be antithetical, not to mention self-defeating, to the murderer's aims.
-
Seems fairly straightforward, and all that. If you discovered that a distant relation was a renowned protector who literally gave her life for her world, husband, and emperor, you'd milk that for all it was worth. Especially if it ingratiates you with the family of said husband and emperor.

The new chasm is located oddly. I thought it would be farther south, and tilted the other way.

If someone asks him about the life-size Aon Rao question, They could use the Teoish peninsula as perhaps a clarifying point, as that is the best candidate for "what lies in" the northern circle of a "life-size" Aon Rao. (It also inspired both the question and my "Mapping features onto Aons" thread.)

The main problem with using Hemalurgy off-Scadrial is that 1) you don't know the right metal (there are a total of 56 metals unaccounted for - Cadmium/Bendalloy, Chromium/Nicrosil, and Electrum, plus atium, lerasium, harmonium, and their alloys) and 2) you don't know the right bind points to steal or bestow it in the first place. Admittedly, straight atium obviates the first requirement by WoB (except people on Scadrial don't know that) and the coppermind says most attributes can be stolen through the heart, but that doesn't say where exactly the spike should be placed in order to bestow the power it nabbed, or what happens if the stealing bind point (either bind point, for that matter) is incorrect. EDIT: Sorry, auto-formatting, I'm not normally that smug. EDIT EDIT: I had Chromium twice.

Yeah, the interactions with other forms of Investiture are where Hemalurgy really shines. And Wax didn't kill anyone to get his earring - didn't even know it was anything other than a ceremonial prop until Harmony started actually talking to him (and even then, he was convinced it was confirmation bias until the fight with Miles). MeLaan gave it to him (she's the "woman he'd met on that train ride" who converted him in the first place) and WoB says it was created from a melted-down Inquisitor spike. Alloy of Law doesn't mention what type of metal it is, and the chart on the coppermind doesn't attribute any other metals to the earlobe bind point than Bronze. (Although it could be extrapolated that the earlobe bind point grants the allomantic power of that metal, given that a bronze spike allowed Vin to double her bronze burning ability, and therefore Wax's Path earring grants him the pewter-burning ability he used in the warehouse fight, which Harmony capitalized on by sending him phantom pewter). EDIT: However, even if it did grant something, it wouldn't have enough charge to really do much, because it's been centuries since the Final Empire, and clearly the earring looked benign enough to accept from a stranger on a train.

Coinshots and Lurchers have the biggest amount of technological integration, if only because they have the most obvious effect on metal. In addition, many examples of Coinshot/Lurcher innovations have already been mentioned. Therefore, let us look toward the other types of Mistings. (Also, I'm assuming we're staying in Era 2) Pewter: Anything that requires force - A millstone is the quickest answer that comes to mind, although there are undoubtedly others. Tin: Patterns of flashing lights delivering messages of vital import can be picked up by Tineyes, which has communications applications from the military to the private sector. Of course, these patterns would need to be signaled by a distinctive sound of some kind, so that the lookouts in question would know to start their dictation. Zinc/Brass: I believe its use as a psychological aid was mentioned either by Steris or by the broadsheet reproduced in Alloy of Law, as was Brass. Also, its use as a political campaign aid would be fantastic. (Just don't actually run for office without the ability to cover up your Allomancy. Only thing worse than a smear campaign would be one that happens to be true) Copper/Bronze: Useless outside of hiding/tracking Allomancy/Investiture. Aluminum: Possibly useful as an antidote for, say, a deleterious method of Investiture? Maybe it heals the spirit like how Gold Compounding heals the body? (Might be useful for repairing Hemalurgic spiritweb damage) The rest of that entire quadrant is useless outside of an Allomantic combat situation, except for duralumin, which is entirely useless outside of being a Mistborn. Cadmium and Bendalloy are widely considered to be the seeds of FTL travel in the cosmere, but we have no idea how, and it is probably impossible outside of mechanical allomancy.
-
A different tactic, then: just do the Dune thing and manipulate the family trees going forward. They already have one of their targets (Steris) engaged to be married with a very powerful Allomantic family (House Ladrian). It'd take longer, but hey, it's not as though there's a deadline. Unless there is, and the Set is ramping up their efforts because there's no time to prove their foresight.
-
I am apparently a Seeker. However, I'm wondering if there are possible outcomes for all 16 metals, e.g. Is there an outcome which returns a result of "Slider"?
-
I'm so glad that the thread is not nearly as awkward as that title. Anyway, I picked up the Mistborn trilogy on a whim at my local bookstore (yes, they still exist in brick-and-mortar form) and I was instantly hooked as soon as Kelsier sauntered into the skaa hovel. Since then, I have voraciously torn through everything else Cosmere, up to and including the short stories he's published in the anthologies he's contributed to. (Not Allomancer Jak, though - it's not published anywhere besides the MAG Alloy of Law supplement, and I haven't found a copy of that)
-
Assuming of course that you mention the breeding (or the Hemalurgy for that matter) in the first place. And they don't need to have the sheltered noblewomen to have the babies if the requisite spiritual genes can be passed on via spike. Even leaving aside the idea of a concerted organization that would hire people (which the Set clearly isn't, or at least they don't want to risk the attention a want ad might bring) you could just do the Dune thing and arrange marriages between powerful Allomancers you have on payroll and people whose genes you want to target and pass on to the next generation.
-
Then lie to them. Or don't, really. "We're looking for paid volunteers to help us bring back the powers of the mythic Mistborn. Contracts ready to sign." There's no reason to resort to clearly illegal methods when only slightly illegal methods would work just fine. EDIT: Obviously there would be heavily-enforced non-disclosure methods involved, but hey, you've already got them isolated.
-
1. But why kidnap? Why not just recruit? 2. Or they could be seeing if and how Hemalurgic alterations can be passed on to one's offspring. They already have a proof-of-concept for this, in the koloss (ignoring the fact that they only work that way now because Harmony, but they might not know that). That particular breakthrough could accelerate the Mistborn breeding process, and such a person would make as good a figurehead as any powerful Allomancer. (I seem to recall WoB saying that burning a spike Allomantically hotwires the contents of the spike to your sDNA?)
-
Why kidnap people, then? Why did IronEyes pass along his notes on hemalurgy if it wasn't important?

Why is TES "book 2" of Elantris??
Landis963 replied to Thealps's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Let's be fair here - "the world's longest truck" comprises quite a bit of space. I'd be deeply impressed if Brandon's collected Cosmere literature, from Elantris all the way to whatever ends the saga, each and every volume jam-packed with all the bells, whistles, and gimmicks he signs off on, fills a U-Haul. (Hell, I'm already deeply impressed by the length, breadth, and depth of the stuff he's already written.) -

Oh my Stormfather, but I'm following the heck out of this. (Theater of Sadeas' mourners is empty! Classic! )
