Religion and magic---are they inextricably linked?
WeiryWriter replied to Sol Invictus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
(source) But something to keep in mind is that the cosmere operates under different laws of reality than our universe does. So while there are obviously things that /we/ would consider supernatural people from the cosmere wouldn't view them as such. Take the spren of Roshar, Rosharans don't view them as supernatural entities like we do, they are just a simple fact of life. So it's not like Jasnah is being willfully ignorant, she acknowledges that there are powerful entities she just doesn't believe they should be worshiped as gods. I also wouldn't say Jasnah "hates the notion of worshipping" she just doesn't agree that things should be worshiped. She really has no issue with others worshiping the Almighty, it's just not something she personally does. Brandon tried very hard to portray her atheism in a legitimate way. -
Calamity release date possibly moved up?
WeiryWriter replied to WeiryWriter's topic in The Reckoners
Yeah on the seasons thing Spring doesn't "officially" start until the Vernal Equinox which is usually somewhere around March 20-22. At least the astronomical start date (though that system does have some weirdness in that "midsummer's day" and "midwinter's day" are actually the first day of those seasons...). Of course there is always Groundhog's Day... -
Up until now the plan that we have been aware of for Calamity is that it is going to be released next Spring. However a tumblr user ran into him during his recent/current trip to Disneyland and he purportedly revealed that the release has been moved up to February. Now keep in mind that this is a second-hand report so we don't have direct confirmation from Brandon or the publisher. So what do people think about this, possible, change of events? I find it potentially quite interesting as originally I had thought there would be three months between Calamity and Bands of Mourning, like there is between Bands of Mourning and Shadows of Self. It being released in February would only be a single month.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
WeiryWriter replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
One of them is (probably) Dragons, I don't believe we know what the third is. -
Weiry jumps on the bandwagon, anyone have any questions for me?
WeiryWriter replied to WeiryWriter's topic in AMAs
This is an incredibly unfair question. I consider myself to have a perfectly respectable level of evilness but Feather is so evil that she makes me look positively moral in comparison. But I am plenty evil. -
Hey so Aaron Wheeler on youtube recently posted a video of Brandon's panel from here, which includes a reading from Adamant. I've started a transcription of the video here. So far I've only done a rough run-through of the reading and surrounding bits. Hopefully I'll have time to go back and transcribe the rest and proof the reading soon. Anyway one of the most interesting things that comes out of this is that Brandon is considering sliding the novel (which is the first of like 5 or 6) into the cosmere!

Is this a thing now? Alright. Hit Feather up with some Qs!

She's not just the evil Writer twin, she's the even-more-evil Writer twin. -
So you mentioned you plan on being a fantasy author, are you working on anything at the moment that you are willing to talk about?

WeiryWriter replied to WeiryWriter's topic in AMAs
It's actually a pun. Back in high school I took a creative writing class and for one of the assignments we had to submit under a pseudonym. It was there I came up with the first iteration of the pseudonym that I currently use for online stuff (E.N. Weir). Couple that with the fact that I'm often tired because I don't sleep well a lot of the time and you get a mash-up of "Weir" and "weary". -

WeiryWriter replied to WeiryWriter's topic in AMAs
I don't really know because I've never actually seen anyone vocalize being confused by it. So if newbies are confused I'm completely oblivious to it. I don't think it would bother me because she's a pretty awesome person and even I am sometimes surprised by we can be (though I just learned she's not a fan of cheese which is just unnatural as far as I am concerned). But being mistaken for some else is just not something I'm liable to get worked up over? That said I did once have a conversation with a member of the forums who legitimately thought that Feather and I were twins (and that I was female... Neither of which are true). I think we both got a kick out of that. Heh, I wish I was as good a writer as Feather, but I haven't practiced nearly as much. I should really get on that. As for the question, nope, it is not. Brandon has talked about how he deliberately didn't want to make it so because the mythology he is working with is very much an "our world" thing. Personally though I've never found it particularly cosmere-y? Like Calamity is somewhat Shard-ish but the actual magic system (the Epics) is very much not Realmatically justified? Like Rithmatics is a system that could very easily have been incorporated into the cosmere (he originally planned on doing that) but the Epics are just too random. Bad Joe, at least let me forget what you did for my Birthday before trying to trick me into answering that. -
So I've been seeing these threads for a while and thought about starting one but didn't know if it was a good idea... But what the Braize there's no harm in jumping in! So ask me (almost) anything.

Hmm what to ask, what to ask... If you were a Knight Radiant which Order would you be? Or maybe what works do you write that aren't fanfiction? Don't you have a novel called Called Forth? -
Grand Table of Rosharan Associations
WeiryWriter replied to CuriousWolf's topic in Stormlight Archive
Actually it does not say that, though people often interpret it that way. Here's the actual text: So what it actually means is that at the point in time the text is describing there were only three Bondsmiths, which it was not uncommon for them to number (i.e. there are often three of them but that isn't a definite number, there aren't /always/ three of them) -
What are the stub rules on the coppermind?
WeiryWriter replied to WayneSpren's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
So the {{update}} template is mostly for use when an article was at some point {{complete|reviewed=yes}} but there has been a recent-ish release with relevant information that needs to be added. Generally when the {{update}} tag is added the "reviewed=yes" should be removed. If the relevant information is not added by the end of that books spoiler period the article should be demoted to {{partial}} (but the {{update}} will remain). That is a fair description of the tags. A good rule of thumb for updating stubs to partials is that if the text is longer than the infobox, it should be upgraded. Keep in mind that this is not an absolute rule. -
Who wrote the back cover synopsys of The Way of Kings book?
WeiryWriter replied to rtfirefly's topic in Stormlight Archive
Here is the WoR blurb (which is on the wiki): And I would frankly be surprised if these didn't end up being important in some way. Brandon has confirmed they are an in-world thing, and Brandon doesn't write things like that for no reason. -
I just want to chime in with something as well as this is something I was initially confused about as well. It is a little non-intuitive but the HLCC's do not propogate down into the sub-categories. What this means is that Kelsier is a character article, which means it is in the Characters HLCC. It is also in the Allomancers sub-category which is a sub under both Characters and Magic (specifically it is under Magic users which is then under Magic). This does not make the Kelsier page a Magic Article. Another example of this is the Food sub-category. The articles in Food are either "things that are edible" which are classified as Lifeforms and "prepared dishes" which are classified under Culture. The category as a whole can be found in either of those HLCC's but each individual page is only under one. Hopefully that helps supplement Chaos' explanation.

While that was posted May 24th I'm pretty sure the actual interview took place when he was in Spain last summer. As for the whole "Szeth only has a handful of viewpoints so far so can't be a main character" keep in mind we've only read two books. Take the Wheel of Time for example, Mat is most definitely one on the main characters, but he doesn't get his first viewpoint until The Dragon Reborn, book 3 (several years ago Brandon was doing a retrospective re-read of the series he actually points out that he didn't realize Mat was a main character until then, so this is definitely a thing that he is aware of). Rand on the other hand, the actual Dragon Reborn, gets maybe two chapters. Perrin is also just gone for the entirety of The Fires of Heaven. This is an epic series, sometimes one needs to look at the long game.

If I remember correctly what Brandon actually said was that each book focuses on a character (through flashbacks) and that each book also focuses on an Order of Knights Radiant but that they will not always necessarily match. So referring to the books by their flashback character is an entirely valid practice.

There isn't a specific "our time" year for it, its always supposed to be a few years into the future.
