  1. Here's the critical Syl quote: Yeah, I'm pretty sure that she really doesn't like it.
  2. Good luck som1else. I know how hard it is when you just have event after event after event. You can do it! Also, I would like to announce that Chaos has pulled ahead in upvotes. *sigh*
  3. Ohhh. That's a tough one. I would really really like to be able to be a Coinshot, but I think that's all that I would use in my Mistborn arsenel, besides Soothing and Rioting (which I could mimic using Connection). So I guess I would say Feruchemy. There's an incredible amount of applicability, from rationing food (All you can eat buffet for the win!), changing weight, strength, senses, as well as some of the odd ones, like luck or connection. Plus memory, which I think is the best thing about Feruchemists. So I guess it's not that tough after all. For those of you in school- would you rather never have another test again? Or never have another homework assignment again?
  4. I would like to announce that I got a better score on this Math test than the last one, and I barely did any homework for this one. It doesn't bode well for the rest of my homework completion...
  5. Happy Post-Birthday!

  6. I agree that a Shard without a person directing it probably doesn't change the magic system. However, I believe that the gap in between Vin's death and Sazed's Ascension is too brief to count. As for Kelsier... TWG HoA So I don't think we've ever seen a functional Shard without an intelligence guiding it. Odium completely broke Devotion and Dominion. In the Letter from WoK, it says " In case you have turned a blind eye to that disaster, know that Aona and Skai are both dead, and that which they held has been Splintered. Presumably to prevent anyone from rising up to challenge Rayse. "So Devotion and Dominion aren't just shards without a person guiding them- it seems like it is no longer possible to have a person guiding them. Maybe the fact that there wasn't a person guiding them is why the AonDor "broke" when the Land broke. You still have a little bit of Preservation in you, but not necessarily in the allomantic way. Indeed, this may be why the Lord Ruler acted so much on Preservation's principles (thousand year empire, no change in leader, no change in land, economy, or technology). And Vin doesn't seem to want to battle as much after going through the Well. This is probably overshadowed by what she went through in WoA, but I think it's still there. Plus, Sazed(?) mentions it being an "attuning force", meant to help get one closer so that Vin could fully take the mists. It does. And I agree. And I also think that after being outside the "Elantris Effect" range, I bet that it stays the same. What is the Elantris Effect? Barnes and Nobles Q&A I'm betting that the Aons are just as effective a million miles away from Sel as they are just outside of the Elantris Effect zone. EDIT- But I believe the same things you do- just for different reasons.
  7. My hands. There's just so much information that you use when you lose your eyes!! Would you rather eat a tarantula or a scorpion?
  8. Guess what Aiken? I actually have a theory that says just that exact same thing (minus the planet). The gist of it is that Shards have pockets of energy they can use, but the power that provides the magic itself comes from . Here it is- The Power of Creation thread. Truth be told, I'm not sure that I entirely believe it though. I need to edit it (or make a new post) to show what I think about it now. And you know what? I don't think the planet has as much affect as your making it out to be. I bet that the Planet's responsibility is to provide the focus, the Physical portion of the magic. The Human provides the "trigger", the action that usually causes the magic to manifest itself. The Shard. But I don't think that the planet itself is involved in the flow of power. The focus is involved, but not the planet itself.
  9. It is WOG, or at least WOP (Word of Peter), which is essentially the same thing. It was in the old Time Waster's Guide Forum. I'll see if I can dig it up. EDIT- Never mind. It's second hand from an old user named Miyabi. TWG
  10. Not necessarily. As Wax often mentions in Alloy of Law, when he's lighter, he falls at the same rate. But when you manipulate the Surge of Gravity, you'll fall slower because the earth isn't pulling on you as hard. Though I suppose that that will appear the same thing if you are stationary on a scale. But I believe that the two things are fundamentally different.
  11. Who decided they would write in this thread.
  12. Something else to take into account is the connection to Preservation. The more connection you have to Preservation, the more effective your Push is. Also, there should be a spot in the equation for how much you are flaring the power.
  13. Ah, so in this case, the "dark ages" where the Empire rules (and the glorious amazing Jedi are absent) is when I'm gone for two years. Thanks for the compliment. We care not for your petty nuances Chaos! I am Zas, the Man in the Suit (Mister Suit?), and I will prove myself victorious! My quotes of random Brandon information will wear you down till you are destroyed! Like this quote: I remember hearing this somewhere. Does anyone know where Brandon said this? Also, I would like to announce that I'm going on a date on Friday to see a really funny comedy group.
  14. Yeah, let's try and keep this discussion cosmere-focused. This isn't the place for real religion debates. But on the topic at hand, I don't think that we really need confirmation. Brandon has mentioned changing (or at least wanting to change) vowels and words in the Mistborn world between HoA and Alloy. Reddit Alloy Q&A So if he wanted a linguistic change after 300 years, I bet that 4500 years gave him enough reason to make the subtle change from "Kalak" to "Kelek".
  15. No. We know that much. The Knight Radiants (the dudes with armor in the flashback) did not leave because the Heralds left (the betrayal we see at the beginning of the book). Huntington Beach Q&A
  16. A Quick note- because this was getting awfully Cosmere-y, I decided to move it to the General Theories.
  17. No, I also think that it's the most accurate. I think that there's a good chance that Kelsier (or at least him talking to/guiding people) will be felt in the second trilogy. But Brandon won't make it obvious- it would mean that you had to read the first trilogy before you read the second, which although recommended, Brandon doesn't really want to require. So if it happens, it will be a secret. And since that's Kelsier's theme.... There's always another secret.
  18. So the Sliver award? For someone who used to hold all or most of an award?
  19. Doh! Two mistakes in one! Let me add that quote/interview to the database. I've noticed the 2-1 display glitch as well. It occurs a lot, especially on the tags. Hmmm. It seems like that quote is already in the database. It isn't tagged (though it should be), but I did find it when I searched for it. Here it is: Reddit AMA Did you search for it? Or did you just click on the tag for Bavadin? And yeah, I get White Sand and Silence Divine mixed up a lot. Though I shouldn't.
  20. Me, on the other hand, prefers 3 smaller mistborn boxes rather than 1 huge one.
  21. What Windrunner said is right. Dominion is Skai, who was shattered on Sel (Elantris-world) along with Aona's Shard. Aona and Skai are both dead as of the Way of Kings. But Tulir is almost right. The one that we aren't entirely certain on is Devotion. We know that it's really really close (and that it may actually be it), but Brandon said that he would have to double check, and hasn't gotten back to us yet. Though if anyone has a recording or something from a Q&A that I missed, or another record, I would be thrilled to have it for certain. EDIT- This is the one we have right now: Book Report And yep, Bavadin is the one for Silence Divine, and he's on the planet next to Roshar. EDIT EDIT- Never mind! Devotion is indeed the name for Aona! With twitter proof from Peter! Twitter
  22. This is a question that Brandon was asked during the Time Waster's Guide interview. Err... That one wasn't as helpful as I'd hoped. Our current belief is that they are humans named Ati (for Ruin, where the word Atium comes from) and Leras (for Preservation, where the word Lerasium comes from) who took up the Shards(Ruin and Preservation) when Adonalsium Shattered thousands of years ago. They took up the Shards like Vin or Sazed ended up doing in Hero of Ages. So yes, they used to be humans. I've got one for this one! From Chapter 55 Annotation, talking about the Mist Spirit. I think that the Shard of Preservation naturally has some intelligence tied to it. It isn't much, but it does have some. I bet that after thousands of years of fighting with Ruin, it naturally tries to oppose whatever Ruin does. Here's a basic rundown of Shards if you want it: Now where did these Shards, and the humans who control them, come from? Basically, there was a giant super-powerful.... thing called "Adonalsium". We don't know if it was an all-knowing God, or if was just a superpowered Shard, or what it was. We do know that it Shattered into 16 shards- concepts, embodiments of various emotions. Preservation. Endowment. Ruin. Honor. And the most treachorous by far- Odium (which means Hate). When Adonalsium shattered, 16 people took up Shards- Ati (who took Ruin), Leras (who took Preservation), Rayse (who took Odium), and many others. Hoid was among these 16, but did not take a Shard. We know he was there when Adonalsium Shattered, but we don't know why. I'm going to describe a little bit about a Shard's mind. Basically, there are two pieces to it. A Shard inherently has some intelligence, but it isn't very strong. I actually imagine it a lot like Nightblood when it's drawn. It doesn't have much initiative or intellignece, it just does. However, Shards almost always have a person connected with it- a person that controls the shard, who gives it goals and objectives. Holding a shard taints the person's mind though, like Chaos's Principle of Intent mentions. Basically, once you hold a shard, you come to think more and more in terms of that concept, that principle that the Shard embodies. <br class="Apple-interchange-newline"> If you want to know more, read the Cosmere 101 thread, or the wiki article on Shards. Just be careful though- you're treading into spoilers for many of the other books (though not too much. If you read just those two, I don't think there's any major plot points on there.)
  23. They don't. Ironeyes and many others (including myself to a point), believe that the Idrian concept of Austre is mostly driven by forgotten knowledge of the ancient Shards. Sort of like how the Terris people believed in Preservation and Ruin, or the Roshar people believe in the Almighty (who is Honor). So it makes sense that Austre, who the Idrians believe is the one that brings people back to be Returned, is the same as Endowment, who is the Voice that offers Lightsong the opportunity to return.
  24. I joined TWG right after HoA was released, which means that I was there during Hero of Ages, right when the words "Cosmere", "Shards of Adonalsium", and "The Cognitive Realm" was first revealed. So I'm pretty happy.
