Something interesting... Kelsier's bones are still around. And if TenSoon is still around, that means that TenSoon could be going around appearing as Kelsier. Especially since we have a report of "The Survivor" and "Iron Eyes" meeting (from crazy-Mortician Tan).

So then, if the beads each represent something, then why is there solid land where the sea is? Easy: the body of water is all considered one object. As one object, it only has one 'mind' to it (the Stormfather??)

Here's a reference that leads me to believe that everything would have a spiritual sense: If everything physical has a cognitive presence, it makes sense that everything would have a spiritual presence as well in the Spiritual Realm. At least everything living. Hmm... I don't think so. But if she came with a population, then I bet her grandkids (or possibly great grandkids) might. It seems that "spiritual radiation" of a shard takes a while to kick in. The biggest example (our only one really) is Sel. Now I personally think that "other lands" means that they came from another planet. The reason for the several decade gap is that it was taking a long time for the population to change from "whatever we used to be" to "Elantrians". Is it spiritual? Is it cognitive? I'm not sure. But my guess is that it takes a while for it to happen. And they could've had it not happen at all. Look at the Jindo on the trade routes in Arelon. They're in the "Elantris Effect" area that should turn them into Elantrians, but because they don't consider themselves Elantrians, they never end up becomes Elantrians. But that's assuming that the "spiritual radiation" works the same way on all the planets. So in short, my guess would be no. Their kid wouldn't have Breath. But his kids might.

I would like to announce that I have been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! (Mormons) I'll be going to the Peru Arequipa Mission for 24 months, starting on October 17, in the Spanish language. I'm so excited!

Here's a little known tidbid about Awakening:
-
I think I might have an answer to the Non-interference vs Helping the Good Guys. He helps both of them, but in different ways. He gives Wax the spiked earring (which I believe has a good chance of powering pewter allomantically), and then gives him some of his energy. But now he's out of balance, so he gives Miles revelations (before he dies) to help him, but it won't help Miles much because he's dead. That way he gets to use his power on both sides, but he pretty much helps the good guys (especially since Marasi heard some of Mile's visions). That is, if Mile really saw visions. There's a chance he was just being cryptic. Or crazy. And why does Sazed help? Probably because he knows that Wax is trying to do a good thing, and he knows how important this is to the world. If this was something that was going to be mentioned in the next trilogy, which is still at least 50 years away, that means it's an important historical event. I mean, I don't often talk about random crimes from the past. But I do mention very important things. Like significant breakthroughs in science, or Pearl Harbor, or things that society as a whole was involved with. So whatever's coming up is going to be very big, and Sazed wants to make sure that the right side comes out on top. EDIT- And as for the free choice issue, I don't think Sazed was constraining them by helping power them slightly, or by pushing Wax to "do the right thing" and help. I mean the choice was still theirs to make. Miles could've walked away. Wax could've decided to just keep his head down, and let it happen. He would've been miserable if he had done that, but he could've done that. And if the only time Sazed really helps was the pewter with Wax and that chest, then he's not promoting the conflict- he's just helping push his favorite to victory.
-
Here, let me help you with that. We've actually got a quote about the Feruchemical quadrants:
-
Maybe this is why Wax's earring still has a charge. The Faceless Immortals keep it in their bodies till there's someone that Harmony wants to be able to communicate with. As for limitless Hemalurgy? I don't think so. I don't know if Kandra can be spiked (as in stolen from), and if they arem I bet they can only do it once without going insane. It is possible to spike someone and have them live. Hmm.. As for the spiking a spiked person... I guess it would be possible. It seems like it should work. But it would be a "messier" spike than normal (like the reused koloss spikes). And probably not as efficient either. It would probably be better to just steal the spike from someone.
-
Sumner? Oh! You're going to Iowa.
-
I've got an interesting one. Does the knowledge of Hemalurgy come naturally to Ruin? Or is it something that was learned over time? I'm just wondering if Ruin knows everything there is to know about Hemalurgy. EDIT- Is the pole star in Elantris (the one in the Ene constellation) a star with a Shardworld on it? Edit 2x- So because there's been quite a bit of discussion about this, is it possible to steal a spike's properties by using another spike? It would most likely be more efficient to just take the old spike, but could you "deplete" a spike by using hemalurgy on the host? EDIT 3x- Which WoT book is your favorite? Could Vin detect what Kaladin does with Stormlight using Copper? What about Awakening? If someone moved from Scadrial to Nalthis (Warbreaker planet), would their kids have Breaths? Their grandkids? We know it took a couple decades for there to be Elantrians in Arelon. You talk a little bit about "stringing Aons together" online. Will we get to see this in Elantris 2? Why don't the Jindo people become Elantrians? It said it only took a couple decades for the current Arelonians to start becoming Elantrians. Is it a cognitive association thing? A "this is my home", so then the Shaod can affect you? Or a "this is my people"? I know that you have to be in the "Elantris Effect" range to become Elantrian, but there seems to be other things. Is it perhaps that the Jindo people already have their own way to connect to the Dor, so they can't do it a second? Does this have anything to do with the fact that Ferrings (Or Chemings?) don't show up till there starts being interbreeding between races ? Were Miles's death rants prophecies? Or was he just being vague? In other words, did he know that knowledge, or was it given to him? How likely is it that Hoid would make a birthday cake for Rayse? How likely is it that Rayse would make a cake for the Dark One? How likely is it that the Dark One would make a cake for Ba'alazamon, causing much of the population to scratch their heads? EDIT 4x- Most of these are from the Chat Room. What happens if a Seon's master dies and didn't designate the next person to go to? Is Vin Preservation's Champion? And possibly Ruin's as well? Is Dalinar Honor's Champion? Why do both Dalinar and Vin feel something "off" about Hoid? EDIT 5x (Right before I got to the MTC!) So is Amaram going to kill Sadeas and become the new Highprince? Cause I think that would be a beautiful twist in many ways. (This isn't really a question. Just something to help remind me about this).
-
Yes, a kandra, if given the correct spikes, could gain Allomancy. Let me pull up the quote. But, and I feel like this should be mentioned, I personally think that the "bindpoints" for kandra are much different than for humans, so that you would need Ruin to guide the spike.

Yep. Spook was known as the Survivor for a little while, but Lord Mistborn proved a truer name as he apparently rebuilt society from the ground up. Especially since he was the last mistborn. Everyone else is who you guessed. Ironeyes is Marsh, Vin is the ascendant warrior, Elend is last emperor (though technically, Sazed was the last emporer, even if it was for all of 5 minutes), Marsh is Ironeyes, Kelsier is the Survivor (who is apparently still around talking to people with spikes, like Marsh, and TenSoon), and Harmony is Sazed. I think they just need to breath less. There's probably side effects, but it seems that they would be similar to breathing pure oxygen (like when you're scuba diving), and I don't remember either being alert or gaining more stamina being side effects of pure oxygen. But that's mostly guesstimation. I'm pretty sure that unless you did something really really odd, a Hemalurgic spike can only steal one ability at a time. Feruchemical stores could probably be stolen. You see, a feruchemical storage is only available to the spiritual "thumbprint" of the person who put in the ability. Now it seems to me there's two ways to get around this. First, you can store enough Identity that when you store abilities, the metal doesn't see any spiritual "thumbprint". It seems to me that you could also probably use a Hemalurgic spike to steal someone else's "thumbprint", though it may take many many spikes to make it so your spiritual "thumbprint" to say you're someone else. As for Hemalurgic properties, we don't know too much. We know Gold steals temporal feruchemy, alluminum steals enhancement allomancy, and duralumin steals enhancement feruchemy. Brandon's been pretty quiet on this front, but from the Ars Arcanum, my guess would be that properly used, Spikes could be used to steal almost anything spiritually from anyone. As for Investiture? Brandon's been really really dodgy on this question. We don't really know. Apparrently, according to the RPG people, Rashek could've used it to store the Power at the Well of Ascension. My guess is we'll see more of this later (perhaps much later)

Better- One of his parents was deaf, so one day, one wrote to another "I think we should have kids". There. He began his life on that piece of paper.

I would like to announce that my cousin is awesome. He's going away to Canada for a month, and without me doing anything, he gave me his car for the month! It will make my life much easier. So he's awesome. Also, 1300 posts and 300 upvotes! Whoo-hoo!

Here's a Hoid quote: My theory though is that Hoid may hold a piece from Adonalsium, but not a spiritual piece like the shards. Instead I think he holds a cognitive piece. But as I've tried to explain this, I've become less and less convinced of it. It's entirely based on two things- his "forewarnings" about where (and when) he needs to be, and the fact that he "started life as a concept, a thought" I however forgot the rest of the quote: "I began life as a thought, a concept, as words on a page." The "words on a page" is what worries me. It doesn't entirely make sense- in any context really. Unless it has something to do with Engraving? But Brandon didn't come up with that till after WoK was out. This is what Brandon has said about future sight:
-
They could be. I wouldn't be surprised if someone from the Seventeenth Shard (or Hoid) had appeared on Scadrial, and Sazed took notice and realized the other planets. He wanted to give the people a clue, so he nudged them with the rings, which most people believe either has to do with the above 10 rings, or possibly 10 pathist ideals, or something else that's 10. But we don't know for sure. That's a good question.

@Joe- I don't think so. Fire Arcadia, you want to take a stab at it?

I would love to join you, but my family will actually be at the Maker fair this week, and I'm usually working most other Saturday nights. Have fun though!

Yeah, there isn't a forum for Dragonsteel. But isn't it cool how REDACTED does REDACTED during the REDACTED scene at the REDACTED? Probably my favorite scene of the whole book.

Hmm... I don't think that it's the Divine Breath that necessarily costs a breath a week. I think instead it's the act of tying the cognitive presence of the person who's supposed to be dead to the body that requires a breath a week. And as for purely transferring Divine Breath? I don't know that that would happen much. I don't even know if it can happen. It seems like although we frequently equate Divine Breath with 2000 breaths, that's not entirely accurate. After all, we never see any regenerative healing happen with normal breath, while Lightsong does that exact same thing. And I don't know if people would Return just to give their breath away. It seems like they return for a specific purpose, something they can do to change, something that makes it worth it to come back. I guess they could, if it was going to be used for something important. Never mind, ignore this point. I do think it's possible to awaken metal with a Divine Breath. I think that this could be one of the areas of overlap between normal Awakening and a Divine Breath Awakening. EDIT- Does Yesteel know how to make Awakened Metal? I don't remember if he does or not. It seemed he worked more with Lifeless.

My favorite theory about Lin Beifong? Well you know how Pema (Tenzin's wife) mentions how he was with someone else for a long time before she said she loved him? Lin's about the right age to be dating Tenzin. And it might account for some of the tension that's there in the first episode. (Though maybe it's just me.)

Okay, I was digging through the avatar fan site (avatarspirit.net) and read some of their shipping thread (401 pages! Oh man!), and found some fantastic fan-art. Sweet Bolin Comic And this one:

Huh, I didn't think of Ishar when I saw the beggar. Truth be told, my first guess would be Hoid. But it makes more sense with the gibberish and the drunkeness for the 'beggar' to be Ishar.

Yes, there are definitely undiscovered Worldhoppers.
