  1. I am pretty sure that it's a trilogy. I remember Brandon mentioning it once, but it's not in the annotations, and I doubt it's in the database. It may have just been something I heard at a signing. Or it might just be something my mind made up. But I'm pretty sure there's a third Elantris book ten years after the second one, with an unknown plot. (My bet is that it would feature side characters from the second book. Maybe with a Jindoeese? So we can get ChayShan magic?)
  2. Universal Knowledge, most certainly. I would much rather be Stephen Hawking then a dumb muscley man. Would you rather have your writing hand cut off (right for righthanders, left for lefties) or a leg cut off?
  3. Where to begin? I know just the place to begin. The Brandonothology. Most of our information, guesses, theories, and assumptions are based on information that we have in there, from various Brandon interviews. Later, they were moved into the Theoryland Database for a more comprehensive source, but the Brandonothology is a good place to just start at the beginning and it's got Brandon's cosmere-interviews up until about a year ago.
  4. I think a Nahel Bond is a bond between a Nahel Spren (like Syl or the Truthspren) and a person. The Bond gives the Spren enough of a cognitive nature in order to think and grow, and the it gives the person more of the spiritual ability to utilize Stormlight. This bond is reinforced by following the Intent of the Spren. Check out my Spren Hypothesis in my Sig for more of what I think it is. I do think that there is a sort of similar bond between a Shard and a Shardholder, but that it is much more intimate. For example Syl and Kaladin are two different beings, with two different thoughts, sets of memories, etc. When a person becomes a Shard, there's only one mind- and it is shaped by both entities. The Shard gives a general motivation, and the Shardholder helps shape it. But a Shard on its own isn't going to do anything except maybe find a new owner (like Vin). Brandon has said that he hasn't canonized a term for a Shardholder because he doesn't make the distinction between a Shard and it's holder as much as we do. So, yeah, I think that there are similarities between the Nahel Bond and the bond between a Shard and its Holder, (like the fact that the Shard enlarges the Holder's mind, and enables it to use power), but I think they are two different bonds.
  5. This image is done by quargon, who agreed to let me put the image here. This is what she had to say about it: I'm working on a portfolio for uni in which most pieces will be my own concepts of items/creatures/characters/environments from Brandon Sanderson's novel 'The Way of Kings' - which is a fantastic read! This may not be how others see the Shardplate looking, but I'm also trying to play to my strengths for the portfolio so excuse any awful inaccuracies!

  7. Annotations. If there's a mistborn fact that isn't in the books or the interviews, it's in the annotations. I've got the first book's annotations in the Database, but I don't know if I'll have time to put the second and third ones in there.
  8. That actually could be a really good way to check for new allomantic metals- check them feruchemically. I don't think any poor side affects are mentioned for trying to store something in a non-feruchemical metal, besides that Sazed says they come out "weaker". But for discovering new metals, that could be useful in getting in the right ballpark.
  9. Good luck! Be obedient, be strong, and remember why you're out there.
  10. My guess would be as a main character. She's an amazing artist, an interesting backstory, and she has a secret Shardblade. All recipes for importance. Plus, Brandon has said that this is "the first" of Shallan's apprenticeships. What other ones will we see? Navani? Taln? Hoid? Who knows? Anyways, I'm excited for the next book, which should focus on her. As for what she'll end up doing? Probably infuriating at least one of Dalinar's/Kaladin's crew, learning to use her powers in battle (or negotiation), and doing lots and lots of drawing.
  11. No! It's totally fine. It's an obscure piece of knowledge.
  12. That is true. Except have those religions been around for at least 5000 years on Scadrial? Because that is a low low minimum of how long people have been on Roshar, which would mean that if they emigrated from scadrial, those religions have been around for that long as well. I think that it's more likely that either the Seventeenth Shard or Hoid have been going around telling stories of different religions, which people enjoy, and eventually adopt.
  13. I suspect that Ati and Leras are originally from Yolen, the Dragonsteel world, where Hoid is from, since I think that's where the Shattering occured (as well as being the first books in the Cosmere).
  14. It doesn't matter if it's out of date or if it's been said before. We enjoy contributions! In fact if two seperate people come up with something on their own, than it becomes more likely (to me anyways) to be true. So go ahead! Make guesses, speculations and random ideas. We want to hear your ideas. EDIT- I repeated repeated a phrase.
  15. Something else to support this theory- Ishikk says that you aren't supposed to speak about Nu Ralik outside of a holy house- why is this? Easy- because a holy house is probably going to have protection against shards (like the place in the Kandra homeland that is covered in metal so Ruin can't hear). If my suspicions are correct, that would mean that the house is lined with gemstones, when which infused would shine brightly, like dozens of stars in a room.
  16. Justin! How are you doing? I was at the signing too! (The guy with the Szeth shirt and the cool hat). You should really talk to Rubix or FirstRainbowRose- I know they've got a game going. I'll send them your way.
  17. When the Alloy preview chapters came out, I came out very very strongly and said there was NO WAY that Harmony was listening to Wax. I figured he was pushing some emotion out, and that he was getting good at guessing, but no way that Harmony could be hearing him. Thus the conversation blew my mind. Actually, while reading, I tend to not do much theorizing either. I'll pick up on Cosmere stuff (like Cultivation, kayana, etc), but when I'm reading, I'm generally going full tilt immersed in the novel. But when I get sample chapters, I theorize like crazy. One of the reasons why I picked up so quickly on the "Kaladin's a magical person" was the fact that he kept having dun spheres, which was in one of the sample chapters. This isn't me, but this topic made me think of it: Chaos thought that the idea that the mistspirit was Preservation was "silly".
  18. Happy Birthday David (Windrunner)! You're fantastic!
  19. Whoa, whoa whoa. Brandon never revealed that the AoL AA was written by Hoid. He said that it was written either by Hoid OR by a member of the Seventeenth Shard. I don't remember what he said about the authors of the other Ars Arcanums. I think he said they were all written by the same person? I would assume that it is the receiver of the Letter, but the words about applicability in Alloy makes me doubt that. I bet that it's someone we haven't met yet, or someone we've only met in passing.
  20. I've had questions about the Champions for a while now too. I believe that Dalinar is much more likely to be a Champion of Honor than Kaladin is. Think of what Vin had: She had special powers (That allowed her to access the Well), she had special information (That allowed her to learn about the Well), and she had special positionings (That allowed her to find the Well). Kaladin has special powers, but I don't think his powers are outside the norm for a Windrunner. Not yet anyways. He doesn't really have any information besides the Stormriding. He sort of has special positioning, but not any more than Dalinar has. Dalinar doesn't have any special powers-yet. His book is still to come, and I think that the whole "glowing Shardplate" thing needs to be resolved. He has quite a bit of information. The Visions he keeps getting from Honor, Honor's annotations to those visions, are all going to be very helpful in the long run. Dalinar, as the real power behind the throne and as the now Highprince of War has quite a bit of influence. He will be able to control one of the largest armies in the world, his niece has discovered the Voidbringers identity, and his romantic interest is a brilliant fabrial creator. And he has connections to two potential Knight Radiants (Elhokar and Jasnah). Really, the biggest thing to me is the Visions. The fact that Dalinar is receiving them, rather than Kaladin seems to tell me that Dalinar is Honor's champion. We could also look at Ruin's champion post-ascension- Marsh. Marsh is Ruinous, is Ruin's mouthpiece, does Ruin's critical tasks. Dalinar is Honorable, has information that he could spread to become Honor's mouthpiece, and has been tasked with Uniting Them (Which I believe to hold to all of Roshar, not just Alethekar).
  21. Afraid not. I was busy being Intro to Cosmere for a lot of it.

  22. Don't forget that Renarin mentions that the first effects of seeing the Nightwatcher (the boon and curse) always occur within a few months of seeing her. The Visions were a candidate of the Old Magic, but Dalinar said no, because 1. He knew what his boon and curse was, and 2. They started years after seing the Nightwatcher. So my guess is that the lack of Thrill is not the curse.
  23. Really? That's interesting. Do you have more information on the Kabbalah? I haven't ever heard of it before.
  24. Oh sing everything I say, definitely. Would you rather go a month without any good food (like you hate everything you eat), or a month without the internet?
  25. I just changed the Wiki link so that it goes to the new working one. Hoorah! I feel like an actual Admin.
