Arequipa, Peru. It was incredible. The mission is something that changes your life- and gives you the opportunity to change others as well.

I suppose from my welcoming new victims members to the 17th Shard

Here's some (yeah for coming back and getting into theories!): Did Khriss write the Ars Arcanum? (RAFO bait, I'm sure) In order to worldhop, do you need to use the Shardlakes? OR Are Shardlakes "Stations" that make it easier to worldhop? Is it a coincidence that both Kaladin and Dalinar both caught shardblades? Or does it have to do with the Surge that their orders share (I'm assuming ) Is Roshar shaped in the shape of the Cosmere? COMPLETE Rafo-bait- Is there a Shardholder that's a Dragon? Something I don't understand- you recently said that the books would go Dragonsteel, Mistborn, Stormlight, Mistborn, Stormlight, Mistborn. But how can that be if the difference between the 1st and second mistborn trilogy is at least 400 years, and yet there's still Renarin, Lift, etc as central characters in the 2nd stormlight series. How's that going to work out? Will there be some time of time pause for 400 years? Is the drunk guy in the Beggar's hall Hoid? ( I don't remember if I've asked this before or not, but just in case....)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Zas678 replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
You know you're a Brandon Sanderson fan when you haven't visited the forums for 2 years.... And you're still in the top 50 of reputation. -
Welcome to 17th shard. You'll find us full of shenanigans, random theories (sometimes lengthy, sometimes crazy, sometimes eerily accurate), and various other aspects. Welcome here!

DON"T GO THERE. THE COOKIE IS A LIE. Trust me on this one. Welcome gjustice!

Here you go! A little older, but still edible. A cookie for you. Welcome to 17th shard! -
Hoid. His secrets have secrets. Wait, that's Nick Fury. Unless.... *Gasp* NICK FURY IS HOID. No, more likely Hoid is Stan Lee. Fits much better. Anyways, welcome NotAnotherWit! My favorite might be Elantris. Something classy about Elantris.

Looks good! Keep drawing and keep practicing and keep working at it. And if you want, you can go to the Gallery (on the bar at the top of each page) and upload those images up there. Also, welcome to 17th Shard!

The winds blow and the databases clitter about.... They hear whispers of someone who so long ago roamed their lands, phrasing, quoting, organizing. There have since been others since the time that he left. They too have continued the work. But the databases clitter and wonder- what happened? And then they hear- of his Return. I'm zas678, one of the "old" theorizers (but still not ancient!). I have been gone for 2 years, serving a mission for my The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (often called Mormons), in which time I was able to help many people, learn many things about life, and also have been almost completely isolated from much of the world- I kind of like to compare it to an astronaut. They get to go and do something totally amazing and life changing, something very difficult to describe, but they are isolated from almost everything. Well, I've touched ground again, and am starting back up- in the next little bit, I'm going to be reading all of the Brandon Sanderson books I've missed, and I'll be getting back on the forums and theorizing and going with it when I get done! And because this is an introduction forum, I'll write a little more about me! I'm going to be reentering in college and resuming my studies, and I've been a Brandon Sanderson fan for years, and have loved to be able to read and theorize and figure out the Cosmere as it unfolds. I helped put a lot of thing into the Theoryland Database, work that others have since continued (thanks!), and It'll be interesting to see how things unfold!

You might try talking to Isaac Stewart, the artist. Here's his website. http://www.isaacstewart.com/mistborn-series/ The one he has there may be good enough for your purposes.

What if your ENTIRE TRIP is in Nebraska? Where does the other half the trip go? Oh never mind. Silly me. "At Least". I'm going to bed now....

Emperor's Soul Theory Discussions
Zas678 replied to Windrunner's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
I think Ralkalest is aluminum. Just saying. I don't think that it is, because the focuses are different from planet to planet. But it would be cool. EDIT- Also, here's what Brandon's said about the timeline: Chasm 10 years Elantris 10 years Elantris 2 10 years Elantris 3 ???10 years???? Emperor's Soul?? So if it's 30 years after Elantris, that likely means that the whole Elantris vs Derethi thing has been wrapped up, and the Derethi religion is more peaceful now (but that's mostly wild speculation) -
See, that's the thing- with Elend and Straff, Brandon just picked those names because they sounded German. He didn't realize what they meant until a fan told him. He did find it funny though.

See, I think that Stormblessed has a lot going for it. I mean really, in order to start deep theorizing on this website, you need to have read pretty much ALL Brandon's books (plus a handful of interviews/ explanations). With Stormblessed, you only have to have read The Stormlight Archive. That's a much easier level to fulfill. But that's the thing. There aren't some things you can get from just reading Stormlight Archive. There's going to be clues to how Stormlight Archive turns out in other books, whether in mechanics or in plotline. Plus the fact that Brandon's working on a bajillion projects at once, so a dedicated fansite to just one of those is going to be harder to work. But I really hope it picks up again when SA 2 comes out.

And that, my dear friends, is not pretty. It's almost as bad as when I was spiked....

Thanks guys! I am going to the Arequipa, Peru mission. And Yamato, your questions aren't offensive, so don't worry about it. Well, first off, let's just make sure that the church's position is clear on gays. The LDS Church believes that any sexual actions outside the bonds of marriage between a man and wife are immoral. We see marriage as a sacred ordinance ordained by God, and that one of the responsibilities of marriage is to "multiply and replenish the earth". You can't really have that with a gay (or lesbian) marriage. So this means that the Church opposes same-gender marriage, because we believe that it brings more harm than good (even if that harm may not be fully realized until the next life). A member can have same-gender attraction and still be a full member of the Church, as long as he doesn't act on that attraction. Just like if I was married, but I kept having attraction to women that I wasn't married to, I shouldn't act on those attractions. And I guess when I say "full member" it depends. There are certain positions in the church you can only hold if you're married, for example. As for why we have this stance? Because we either truly believe that same-sex relationships (just like sexual relationships outside of marriage), will make you worse off than before. Again, this may not be realized until the next life, but we believe it will be realized. Also because we believe that children every child deserves a mother and a father, and same-gender marriages means same-gender parents for adoptions. Here is a discussion on what the church's position is on same-gender attraction. Well, I guess it depends on what you mean. I have a gay friend or two. I know there's many gay people out there that are fantastic people. But would I vote to make gay marriage legal? Probably not. I'm still debating over a civil union that has some benefits of marriage. If I had to vote tomorrow about it though, I would probably say yes to a legal bond that gives you things like hospital visitation rites, inheritance, etc. But probably not adoption rights. That's too far for me. But that's subject to change. I'm still mulling it over. So there's my opinions. If you want another though, here's one from a male member who has same-sex attraction but who is married to his wife and has 4 kids (a solution that definitely won't work for everyone). I hope this helped you understand our position a little better. If there's anything else you want me to clarify, go ahead and ask, and I'll do my best [to answer] before I leave. EDIT- I accidentally forgot a word.

Hello, I am turning my spikes in for two years, in for a namebadge from a different organization. As many of you have heard by now, I will be gone in a week for quite a while. 2 years actually. What will I be doing for those two years? Why one of the best things I could be doing: serving a proselyting mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons as we're sometimes called). So knocking on doors, talking to people on the street, and calling up references we get, then teaching people about the church, hoping that they choose to be baptized and join the church. <Warning: Churchiness and religion incoming! > Now why am I doing this? Easy. Because I feel like the Lord, both personally and through his prophet, has told me that he wants me to go on a mission. It's my way to help further His work, and I'm really excited to do it. There's a scripture story that also really helped me to go. Let me give a little background though, so it makes sense. We (the Church) believe that the Book of Mormon is a record of the Israelite people in the ancient Americas, and God's interaction with them. But anyways, Alma was the Chief Judge (the head of their elected government) of the Nephite people. He saw that the Nephite people were being wicked, and so he stepped down from being the Chief Judge, gave it to someone else who was worthy, and went forth and taught the gospel. Why? Because he knew that teaching the gospel was the way that he could most change the people. With an example like that, how could I not go? I want to bear my testimony that I know this church is true. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, a seer, and a revelator. I know that the Book of Mormon is revelation from God, saved for us in these last days. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our prophet today and is inspired of God to lead His church. I know that my Savior, Jesus Christ died for me, and that he was resurrected and still lives. Because of him, I can hope to live forever with him and Heavenly Father, being clean and pure. I know that going on my mission for 2 years to serve the people in Arequipa, Peru (where a temple was just announced!) is the right thing to do, and that I will learn and grow an enormous amount. The Lord has called me on a mission, and I must go. If you want to know more about the church, please check out mormon.org . If you want, you can chat with missionaries online and ask them questions. </ Churchiness> With that, I wish all of you here at 17th Shard farewell. I'll have a blog on here that my Mom will post my weekly emails onto. It's been a fun ride, and I can't wait to read and talk about Stormlight 2 when I get back. Theories? Random Guesses? Hemalurgy? Fantastic. Farewell! Au Rervoir! See you all later. Zas678/ Zach S. October 11th, 2012 PS- I'll still be around for a week. I'll probably be able to make a few more comments but I'm mostly done now. Also, for more information on missionaries, Elder Russel M Nelson just gave an excellent talk about them. Here it is. And yes, we can help! EDIT- And if anyone wants to ask questions about the church, I can do my best to answer them. But please no "Why do you follow a church that's so blatantly wrong"esqe questions. Curious questions, not angry ones.

Better question- can Nightblood awaken? Now there's a scary thought.

Best Invention? That's easy. The Gutenberg Press. Random reader: The Gutenberg press? Really? Out of computers, cars, nuclear powered satellites, airdrop rovers and the internet you chose a printing press? Yes. A printing press. You see, the Gutenberg Press changed the world, perhaps more so than anything that has come since. The Gutenberg Press was not just a printing press- it was The printing press. It was the first printing press, and it changed information. Rather than taking being able to produce 40 pages typographically, or a handful by copying, you could make 3600 pages a day. That's almost 10,000% improvement! The Printing Press changed the world. It allowed Martin Luther to become popular. It allowed Christopher Columbus's news of a New World to spread (yes, yes he didn't actually realize what he found, but still). It allowed the masses to become literate, promoted cultural awareness, created a middle class, and made it possible for one man's ideas to become known to hundreds of thousands of people. Even millions. And on of the best parts? It was still the design being used for about 300 years. Benjamin Franklin used a barely modified Gutenberg printing press. The printing press the Book of Mormon was written on was a barely modified Gutenberg Printing Press. We still haven't found a blacker ink than the one Gutenberg used (though his uses lead, so maybe not the best thing). So yes. The Gutenberg Printing Press (and his process for making reusable letters for the script) is, in my mind, the greatest invention to date.

We're glad you're a big fan! I'm a big fan too. So's him, and her, and him and him and her... Well, it seems like you're in the right place. We hope to see you around!

Hello! Welcome (again) to 17th Shard.

See, but just as important as the powers(Iron Man) is the personality (Tony Stark). I don't think Raoden could pull off being Tony Stark. He seems much more in line with Captain America to me. Even more than Kaladin. Well, Kaladin does have that whole soldier thing going on for him. So that's a toss up. But I totally put Kelsier in as Iron Man. He fits very well personality wise in as Tony Stark. Thor? Suseborn. He totally has the "Worshiped God who's still a good guy" vibe going for him. I guess it depends what you're trying to do. Are you trying to put together the comic book Avengers? Or the movie Avengers? Or just make an awesome-fantastic team of mostly magical superheroes?
