Mid-Range 76: Or Worse, Expelled!: A Harry Potter Mafia Game
Amanuensis replied to Archer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
PM vibes plus this: AKA I think their reaction suggests pre-understanding that comes from being flipped E Alas, that doesn't quite work unless Archer didn't give the pre-determined elims doc access. I would presume that everyone started village and then some flipped in this situation -

I am on board with v!Mist and v!Ver personally. I think v!Mist thinking he caught me in a slip makes more sense than e!Mist jumping on it the way he did. Hufflepuff can be pure. I reckon Mint is the Gryffinmole. -

Sorry! It was in fact I that had been stricken with confusion. I guess this route makes more balance sense although I think it would be more fun to know you're an elim before and strategize houses accordingly -

I doubt anyone is going to derp clear me for this (please don't) but this is an excellent reaction test v!Qian seems more-or-less guaranteed as I would expect an elim to not encourage my psychosis so quickly. Seems to me like they also misunderstood. Doc doesn't get as much v!cred as he does hedge a bit here. Will grant a v!lean though Mint is already aware of elims being rolled post-House selection but also does not point out my misunderstanding. At first I was confused by her saying Archer would take pity but that makes sense now. Ink, on the other hand, does not question my misunderstanding and therefore gains a bit more village cred Mippo's response is interesting comparatively. Not sure how to feel about this comment. Oh yeah I totally missed that lmao. So the burden of the spread is on the GM not the players. That does mean I can effectively ignore D0. Fun! -

Who said anything about people in Ravenclaw and Slytherin not being deliberate picks? I think you have struck yourself in confusion and now I am suffering for it lol. Everyone knew their alignments when they submitted their house orders, no? Are you saying elims didn't know they were elims until after the House PMs were created? This is news to me as it contradicts my experience. Pregame: I declare Slytherin without submitting an order because the game has not started D0: I received my alignment and saw in thread multiple people wanting to go Slytherin, so decide to go elsewhere (see my RP at the end of D0) D1: I am randomized to Gryffindor So no. The "slip" is you misreading, misunderstanding, or misremembering my posts. I did not say I changed houses because of my alignment, I said I changed houses after I received my alignment. Again, go read my D0 RP post lol -

What do you mean by the numbers not making sense? Everyone received their alignments before picking houses, no? In the pregame I told Doc I was picking Slytherin. Then D0 began and I was told my alignment. Then multiple people indicated they'd go to Slytherin and I decided to go elsewhere. -

I didn't see any Slytherin claims apart from Doc and Qian prior to the alignments being rolled, so maybe or maybe not. I did change my mind after receiving my alignment too -

Amanuensis replied to Archer's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Yeah so the colors are just for my benefit. Because I know my alignment, I can narrow down Gryffindor to a 50/50 Village/Elim and do the same for Hufflepuff. Either one of or both Houses could theoretically be pure (no elims), but if I had to take a guess right now at which member of each pair is elim, I'd say Mint over Ink and Mist over Grass. The rest are yellow because I've not seen enough to lean one way or the other yet Specifically for Mist, it comes down to me finding his playstyle more reserved than in LG110 (possibly too early to tell) and me assuming elims would rather not rand their House, but pick one more deliberately (not a guarantee depending on player temperament or overall strategy). -

Ah, I didn't see the outright Slytherin claim by Qian. Might as well finish the chart out then. The colors are just my current gut leans on the relevant pairs (e!Mint > e!Ink and e!Mist > e!Grass). In either case both could be village. Obviously discounting myself so take my slot with grain of salt. Working off Mist's claim of requesting Huffle: At least 1 picked Huffle (Mist) Maybe 1 picked Gryffin (not Aman, another claimed "any but Ravenclaw, surprise me", leaving the third as the only logical intentional picker) If 4 "put me somewhere smol", Gryfin + 1, 50/50 Gryffin/Huffle + 1, the other +1, then 50/50 Gryffin/Huffle (favoring Gryffin) Or if 3 and a picked Gryffin, 50/50 Gryffin/Huffle +1, the other +1, then 50/50 Gryffin/Huffle (favoring Gryffin) Not necessarily. For one, there is the IKYK factor where this is the standard assumption and a team playing for the long game might want to throw off that assumption in order to distance themselves from each other later. For two, being elected house Prefect requires votes in the House PM. There is the way of looking at it where the baddies would prefer to gather maximum knowledge, prevent town cores from forming, and potentially direct each Prefect vote in their favor. There is also a way of looking at it where they could increase the chances of a baddie ending up Prefect by stacking their presence in a house (the smaller the better). For three, working off the assumption of even-spread, this makes larger houses more dangerous for the baddies because once the baddie in a House gets killed, it's an effective soft clear for the rest (see: LG110 late game PoE narrowing). Having 2 in Slytherin, for example, would prevent that potential trap from clearing the most. For four, some players (such as me) would consider not putting any elim in the largest House in order to encourage village cannibalization. It's a high-risk, high-reward play given how much information gets sacrificed for it, but some players (such as me) might have the appetite or inclination to do something unpredictable (FUD / Fog of War be strong). On the flip side, if more elims are stacked in the largest house than not, the smaller pure town Houses would potentially struggle with their own distrust / cannibalization I reckon that an even spread is more likely, but could be fatal if assumed. Mhmmm. Likely story I probably wouldn't put too much stock in house decisions being AI but until we have proper vote counts and flips to work from, I feel it's a valid thread to tug 2 Hufflepuffs 3 Gryffindors 4 Ravenclaws 8 Slytherins I will get back to you on that! I'm doing homework rn, have a class in an hour, then have to close for work after, so any RP on my front will come tonight. Feel free to interact with others in the meantime. -

Also sorry Doc and probably Araris I would have enjoyed the Slytherin House PM with y'all and will certainly feel FOMO the rest of the game, but I personally would rather be in a smaller house for solving purposes. Two questions for everyone: Do you expect 3 baddies or 4 given a player count of 17? Do you expect an equal spread of baddies across Houses to maximize information / power, or some bunching up to counteract that presumption? -

Hm. I asked to be sorted into the smallest House and am in Gryffindor with two others. Are you saying it's just you and one other person or a total lf 3 including yourself? -
Don't expect a lot more of this quality from me, but felt inspired and hit a decent stride. Overall this has been a fun brain worm. Should probably stop neglecting that final write up for LG110 though lol. It's a lot Rosemary, Marina, and Lamar Penwell Amara Penwell Lamar Penwell ED1T: Fixed thought italics that were lost in pasting. Have not yet decided which House that Lamar will pick, if that cliffhanger wasn't clear. Neither him nor I like being predictable.

Y'know, I initially picked Slytherin for my character's backstory with the intention of being in a smaller PM group I guess I wrongfully assumed most people didn't want to be associated with the sussy sneks. Decently long introductory RP coming soon. As I'm writing one of the scenes now, I'm figuring I'll let the character of Lamar decide where he'll end up. Given the direction I've taken him so far, I could see a few ways that he could throw a wrench into my original conceit. He's effectively the real game character of my group, given Amara is already dead and Rose / Rina mostly exist on the periphery of things. That said, if other people in Ravenclaw want to interact with Rose and Rina in thread, that's fair game. Maybe I can say that if Lamar dies in the game they will be immediately sent home due to their parents demands / to ensure their safety. Think of Amara and Lamar as deuteragonists in their own little mystery that has little to do with the rest of this game's events (it's a family thing), but the plots ultimately end up tangled when the Death Eaters start being active. Regarding game stuff, I don't have much to comment on besides meta things involving the rules updates, which I'm generally apprehensive to think much about. If I was younger or in the mood to be a try hard (please don't tempt me, I've got two full time jobs), I would probably try to reverse engineer whatever clarifying questions or strategic considerations might have preceded that post, then marked the types of players I believe would have asked them. I wouldn't make it a PoE, but I'd definitely flag them for extra scrutiny going forward. ED1T: Keep in mind that Archer could have been wargaming by himself or chit-chatting with Jo, so it's not hard evidence by any means. Just a potential lead, and singularly useful to look at so we can prepare accordingly. I'll admit that I have not fully grasped the rules yet, and when I finish my RP, will go back to read them. I believe I understand how voting functions completely, but everything regarding spells is a blur, so the updates are more-or-less gibberish to me

I couldn't disagree more but respect your position o7 as someone who grew up reading the books as they came out, this looks like a more faithful retelling. I also like movies as a medium less than series (and both of those less than books) given the lack of detail and nuance that gets lost in short form -

I have lots of ideas for RP but am going to wait until the Day begins. The main scene I have in mind is all the siblings being present for Lamar's Sorting and the drama that comes with it. I can probably do a set up scene before that but on school premises when they arrive. I'm assuming no students would be there at all, though Amara certainly is. Are we riding the train in? Maybe I can figure something out... A very long time ago I ran a forum RP called the Ravenclaw Chronicles, and now that I've more than doubled my age since then, I feel like I can actually do it justice it wasn't My Immortal bad but it was definitely late 2000s teenage cringe. Also since EoD is at 8 PM EST for me, I will often be at work around turnovers. Historically speaking, what this likely means is that every ten minutes I'll be sneaking peeks when I shouldn't, but I am going to try to not neglect my IRL responsibilities as much as I had to while GMing LG110. -

Amara is a notoriously bad friend in that she is very flaky and forgetful or neglectful of non-Academic pursuits buttt she is friendly and means well. Ultimately depends on how much of a tolerance Azalea has for that Also @Archer what year does this take place? Nevermind it is in the write up lmao -

Everyone is Ravenclaw except Amara. She convinced the Sorting Hat to be placed in Slytherin and was disowned accordingly. Lamar will be placed into Slytherin as well on his first day - Amara's hair is more afro like. A bit of a bird's nest. - Rosemary has very long straight hair, no glasses - Marina is clean shaven, has glasses - Lamar has a military fade with cornrows on top, has glasses @Doc12 -

Oh, I think I'll have Amara have three siblings as well. One 5th year sister (Rosemary), one 3rd year sister (Marina), and one 1st year brother (Lamar). They are all Mixed British Afro-Caribbean with a complicated family dynamic. Technically her siblings have been forbidden from speaking with Amara long before her death, which Rose takes the most seriously. Marina is her only safe harbor until Lamar arrives, whom Amara has not seen in over 7 years. Long story short her parents were big mad she joined a House outside of their alumni lineage -

Agreed. I will be exploring this more deeply if I have the time to RP properly For a physical description, Amara was of dark complexion with curly black hair that she always kept natural and untamed, never wore make up in her life and never intended to, already just saw her body as a vessel or prison before she died -

For my character, I think she was a seventh year last year that was killed mysteriously before graduation and is now a ghost in the school attempting to solve her own murder while struggling with the limitations of such. She was a huge book nerd obsessed with knowledge in all forms so being immutable and incapable of learning new things is a certain kind of existential torture for her -
