  1. Somewhere Shallan thinks, that Adolin is not at least similar to Lin Davar, because Adolin is very confident, while Lin's confidence was always played, to hide quite the opposite.
  2. I think this has something to do with the fact, that a proto-radiant has to "break" before becoming a surgebinder. Somehow similar to allomantic snapping. And Kaladin was broken at the moment, when Syl started to talk with him.
  3. I think that the majority of us would be blown away by the first highstorm or eaten by a chasmfiend or killed by a random warlord or (add some random deadly Rosharan stuff here) in the first weak in Roshar. Also I am still not fully convinced, if Shin have exactly "our" eyes, because Hoid and other worldhoppers are not mistaken for Shin. Even if we survive and are accepted as Shin, I'm quite sure, that we will break the Shin rules in some way or another, and that would mean... something like the whole 17th shard to become truthless.
  4. You are a cloud on the internet, and the most random things are uploaded to you. For example Ponynquisitors or something like that. I want to be healed of the mental shock of the experience to sit in whitespine and skyeel dung.
  5. There were some WoB that it would not be wise to allomantically burn the One Ring, because it is a hugely invested object. Conclusion: Hoid is Tom Bombadil and stuff.
  6. Random thought: If the greatshell-theories here are true, imagine what consequences it would have, when chulls turn out to be slaveform-chasmfiends.
  7. I assume that Braize/Damnation is nearer to the sun than Roshar, giving it more "Damnation-like" heat. Also, to add to your history line: It is assumed that Honor was killed after the first 99 desolations on the day of Recreance. Noatably during a surprisingly long winter.
  8. I would call Kelsier more a Willshaper, but Voidbringer is also quite accurate. I would place Spook rather to the Edgedancers than to the Releasers. Breeze is most likely a lightweaver, Hamm...truthwatcher, perhaps?... Club is difficult. Sonewarden?
  9. Hopefully the in-world Way of Kings will be someday fullly printed. Nohadon was a very clever man.
  10. To natc: Replace human-like with god-like, and I'll be fine fine with it
  11. I made some calculation, and ended up with the following result: Each world can hold up to 2S number of magic systems; where S is the number of shards currently present on this world. One system with none of the shard involved. I believe on Roshar this is something like the fabrials and/or the existance of spren (my assumption, but I may be very wrong). Scadrial does not seem to have one. Sel is somehow difficult, because you never know where which magic system is, or if they are all mixed up. Then systems, which are related to a single shard (Allomancy/Hemalurgy/Awakening/probably Old Magic). The number of this systems is obviously S. Then systems with two shards involved (Sel magic in its different variations (assumed)/Feruchemy/most likely Surgebinding). The number of it will be (S-1)*S/2. Then following systems with three shards (probably something not yet discovered on Roshar). The number will be (S-2)(S-1)S/6. With four Shards involved it will be S(S-1)(S-2)(S-3)/24 etc. etc. Consequently bringing that thought to an end I came to the conclusion, that if all shards will somehow end up on one world (or to the time of Adonalsium) the given world will have the considerable number of 65.536 magic systems, not including sub-systems and interactions. I assume, that this is only the potential, but not the actual number we will end up - at least because BS is not crazy enough to describe that amount of magic systems and because some combinations won't work out well.
  12. With real actors you will end up making another "Avatar"-like movie with aproxinmately 90% animation; I do not think you could play anywhere outside, be i desert or grassland. But this will require a very, very solid budget. TWOK and WOR each have more than ten times as much story as "Avatar" has, and this will end up in proportional expenses. Even if CGI is going cheaper and cheaper, in the near future it won't be possible to get a studio, that will take as much risk. Probably with crowdfunding, but I do not believe, that there will be as much hardcore Sanderson fans.
  13. A very, very dangerous dog through. Plus, there were some clues that chasmfiends were somehow related to voidbringers.
  14. probably as secure as riding a highstorm... in a WW1 airplane...and a blind voidbringer as pilot
  15. I didn't meant the word "flaw" as "wrogness" but more as "incompletness" and did not want to say that you accused me on using wrong terms. This was constructive criticism from your side. As I said, English is not my native language, so forgive me for misunderstandable word usage. And on the value of stormlight: we have no Idea of amounts, but we can think about its behaviour. It is more or less like we know that three meters are more than two, even if we have no Idea how much a meter is. On stormlight amounts in money: we can assume that they are equivalent of the exchange rate of broams, marks and chips. To-read (or RAFO) for us: does an emerald chip have the same amount of stormlight as a diamond chip? EDIT: FInished my somehow unfinished text. EDIT 2: Won't be here in the next days, so please surprise me with a bunch of new ideas when i come back.
  16. Okay, than the other way round: Despite the epiphantic fold they do not look exactly asian inother features, making the casting difficult.
  17. I have my problems with the idea of StAr as a movie with real actors, because I think that the people of roshar look very different to earthern people - I have no idea how big Shin eyes really are, but I am sure that they are bigger than the eyes of most of known actors, and this is only the first of many differences.
  18. Start of the discussion: here I wrote there some basic formula on how fast a radiant loses inhaled stormlight, and Oudeis pointed out, that it has its flaws. The idea of this topic is to find the most accurate formula on the loss of Stormlight. Let us begin with definition: Stormlight. I will use the letter S for the Stormlight a radiant has inside of him/her. I will use the letter L for "captured" stormlight hold by gemstones. I will use the letter L' for "free" stormlight in a highstorm, but this case is special. Gain: A radiant gains S by inhaling L. I will use the letter G for the term discribing this process. Inefficiency: Every radiant is an imperfect Vessel for stormlight and it bursts out of him (and so are gemstones). I will use the letter I for the term that describes the inefficiency of the radiant. The inefficiency is based on how much S a radiant holds. Healing: Stormlight heals. H is the letter to sum up this term. Enhancing: Stormlight enhances the abilities of the radiant. I will use the letter N for this process. Surgebinding: Stormlight is also used on different kings of surgebinding. U will describe this process. E is the error in my equation (In the ultimate end, E shall be zero). t is time, as usual. So far we have this equation: S(t+1)=S(t) + G(t) - I(t) - H(t) - N(t) - U(t) + E(t) On I(t): I have two different assumptions. One is, that a radiant loses a constant amount of stormlight in a given time period. In this case I(t) = i, and "i" is the amount of S lost (for example a chipful of S in 1 minute). The other, more difficult equation will be I(S(t)) = S(t)*a and "a" is the percentage of stormlight lost in a given time period. Note, that "I" is dependant from S(t) Further, I(t) is affected by the effect of the knight radiant exhaling, but I will neglect this effect for first. Szeth tells us somewhere, that Voidbringers lose no stormlight, so I(t)voidbringer = 0 (assumed) On H(t): We know, that a person using a honorblade does not heal itself as fast as a KR, so I assume, that it uses more stormlight on it. This shall somehow affect H. More thoughts: Somehow the amount of Ideals spoken by the radiant affects his or her powers. Probably this is somehow like the total factor productivity in economic equations (TFP), but now i have no clue, how to use it. For future discussion i will reserve the letter Z for it. So far on this. Opinions, constructive criticism and ideas are welcome. EDIT: Spelling. I am not a native english speaker.
  19. Syl would be relatiely easy, with some green rooms and some filters. Pattern - depends how you will picture him. I think the others spren (like pain- or fearspren) will be more difficult
  20. This sounds like a good (and fun) partner-project for Adolin and Navani. Tactical fabrials on chulls...Why not?
  21. As far as we know, yes, the glow is in the same colour. Never heard of a radiant lending his armor to somebody else, so we don't know.
  22. I like this Idea, even if I think, that it was easier to settle Roshar via worldhopping. On the fortress? How did it survive the unknown number of pre-radiant desolations?
  23. Oudeis: I think we shall start a separate topic for Stormlight drain to get the right formula- each of your points is important. EDIT: started here
  24. Good Idea to formalize this. Let us use following symbols: S: Stormlight hold by subject i: stormlight drained due to inefficiency and to enhance the body. Let us assume linear drain, for example the capacity of one full broam per hour. h: stormlight drained on healing. x: stormlight used on surgebinding. o: stormlight gain from external sorce. Also: t is for time. a,b,c,d are parameters that affect the variables. Then: S(t+1)=S(t)-a*i-b*h(t)-c*x(t)+d*o(t) Let us assume two actors, Szeth (with one honorblade) and Kaladin (three ideals spoken). Let us assume, that S(0,Kaladin)=S(=0,Szeth) and that S(1,Kaladin)>S(1,Szeth). We know, that Szeth has lower healing kapacities than a usual Radiant, so b(Szeth)>b(Kaladin). Also let us assume, that the stormlight gain is equal, so d(Szeth)=d(Kaladin). The exact holding efficiency is unknown yet, as well as the amount of stormlight to surgebind, even if in the last case it is implied, that Szeth uses more in both occasions; a(Szeth)>a(Kaladin), b(Szeth)>b(Kaladin). Unanswered question: will an extra Honorblade change any of the Parameters?
  25. Granted. You now believe, that Brandon Sanderson will treat his characters as G.R.R. Martin does. (Probably this is even more disturbing) I want that no chull dung will exist in a 10-feet-circle around me. Ever.
