It's representing a two-dimensional shade of a three-dimensional slice through the (four-dimensional) Julia set of a function on the quaternions. You can find it in wikipedia (here) in the video on the right hand side. It is assumed somewhere, that with the video you can see how roshar was forming in it's prehistory (current state is found somwhere during 0:03).

In German they substituted "Elend" with "Elant", because "Elend" means "misery".

Kaladin's two different Frost symbol's/glyphs on the ground in WoR
Alfa replied to michaelmj11's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Windrunner Symbol is the of the ten "basic glyphs", so it is very likely that Kaladin could recognize it. [To follow my thought: In the TWOK-Chapter about the chasmfiend hunt Elhokar's blade is discribed with "having the ten basic glyphs on it". In WOR there is an illustration of Elhokar's Shardequipment, with the ten order glyphs from the Surgebinding diagram]. NOTE: Would be good to know which Order would have all the Order Symbols on it's blade. Bondsmiths, probably? -
Full-lash-spray a wall with a vast amount of stormlight and then accidentally lean against it (assuming the unlucky Windrunner/Bondsmith has not discovered that he or she can draw sprayed stormlight back yet).

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Alfa replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. For some reason the hat is upwards down and constantly full with water. If you do not move carefully, water splashes down on your head. I wish for a bottle of my preferrable drink that never gets empty, regardless how much I am drinking of it. -
Even if not, in case of mixed heritage it will become. But I am not sure if both systems could be used simultaneously on the same Shardworld.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Alfa replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted, but you forget everything else, including your most fundamental communication skills. I wish for some interesting knowledge about the cosmere. -
Not exactly: Windrunners use one field of Investiture, namely Surgebinding. The Surgebinders are most akin to Mistlings/Ferrings: they can use a part of a whole Investiture-System. The relation between Windrunners and, for example, Edgedancers is like those between Coinshots and, let's say, Tineyes. They are still in the same Investiture system, but for first look their Investiture looks unrelated. If you look closer, you see the similarities; especially the focus of the Investiture is similar: metal (or, better said, the burning of metal) in the case of both allomancers; and the consumption of stormlight in the case of both surgebinders. Twinborn use two different magic systems: Allomancy and Feruchemy. Theoretically it would be possible to cross these two systems with Surgebinding (with equally oscure and fascinating results). Would be interesting to look at a Windrunner-Lurcher or Truthwatcher-Pewterarm or something like it.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Alfa replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Natc: you hadn't asked for a boon but came to the nightwatcher. Your boon is, that you can create Duralumin bursts even without Duralumin. Your curse shall be cruel: from now on you believe that Calamity is a shard. I wish nor Marsh neither the voidbringers would be able to follow me to the top of the mountains. -
Possible Origin of Shardplate? (Spoilers WoR)
Alfa replied to 02ranger's topic in Stormlight Archive
Probably, Plate is made from more than one type of spren. -

I think, that the slave brand of Kaladin is also one of his distinguishings to lighteyes and a memento what they had done to hime. -
The Cosmere-Realization Face
Alfa replied to AndrewStirlingMacDonald's topic in General Brandon Discussion
"Warriors/Fighters of Fire" is not exactly well chosen, but I agree, that it sounds good. If they only could stop the habit to release the Stormlight-book-parts with a almost half-year gap in between. I was "forced" reading stormlight in in english...- 23 replies

The Cosmere-Realization Face
Alfa replied to AndrewStirlingMacDonald's topic in General Brandon Discussion
About translation: the German translations are quite creative. Mistborn trilogy 1 has the titles (back-translated): "Children of Mist"; "Warriors of Fire"; "Rulers of Light"; and Alloy of Law is called "Hunters of Power". Way of Kings and Words of Radiance are splitted in two books, the first half translated correctrly, the second "The Path of Winds" for TWOK and "The Storms of Wrath" for WOR. I am asking myself what they will do, if Brandon decides to troll them and name one of his future books exactly alike. Warbraker is renamed to "Stormsounds", making absolutely no sense. "Nightblood" will end up with something like "Dawn of Colours" or similar missleading. EDIT: "Storms of Wrath" somehow became "Storms of Wraith". I'm loving DnD way too much.- 23 replies

I think "pretty" is not enough to recognize her in warbreaker. We have no very detailed descriptions how Terrissers and Nalthians look like; we know that Terrissers are higher than most Scadrialans (but we don't know the proportions between Scadrialans and Nalthians), and we can assume that Terrissers have brighter skin than Hallandrenians (different climates and stuff). Have we seen any woman in T'Telir, that is discribed as pale or something like that?

szeth Szeth and Nightblood Question/theory
Alfa replied to Paulyoceans's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Interesting, that Szeth's stone in TWoK Prime was a malachite, one of the Shins' most holy stones. -
I think that Hoid is not explicitly attention hungry. He is just old, wise and powerfull enough to behave himself as he pleases; and that usually draws attention.

Especially Demoux. I mean, he had the ultimative happy end: hero of the Atium-fight, has one of the highest political-military positions, has found the love of his life, survived the final ascension, got even a ruindamned Promenade named after him. And don't forget, he saw the prophecys of his religion fullfilled. I think the arguments had to be extraordinarily good to go to cryosleep...

When did Dalinar Start Bonding with the Stormfather?
Alfa replied to ivoryblade's topic in Stormlight Archive
It could be the other way around: the Thrill is a method (used by neargoul) to prevent proto-radiants from honorable behaviour in battle and to become full radiants. And Kaladin felt the thrill before; the place where it is discribed is his first fight with a staff against the boy i Hearthstone. Later he grow immune to the Thrill. -
Possible Origin of Shardplate? (Spoilers WoR)
Alfa replied to 02ranger's topic in Stormlight Archive
Half-shards are steel shields with attached amplifier gemstones (not noticed of which kind). The amplifiers stabilize the steel to the point of being capable stopping one or two hits with a shardblade. They are somehow similar to Grandbows. I am a supporter of the Shardplate-is-Spren-theory (SiS-Theory) and do not believe that original shardplate was constructed. Instead i believe that in Half-shards the same force is being used. -
Preservation beware us from any god-like something with Hoids attitude. Even if he is "terribly inefficient at hurting people", his first creation would be something like one hundred chasmfiends singing praise to him or something even worse.
-
A typical 17th shard definition of proto-radiant is a person with a) the ability to somehow bind surges/use stormlight or b ) in a symbiotic relationship with a radiant spren or c) the right mental attitude for a radiant order or d) any combination, variation or derivation of this. Important point: not spoken any ideals (as far as known), because then the used term is level-x-radiant (what does not make much in-book sense - a radiant has to speak all the ideals to become one - but is precise enough)

Hoid calls Taln "lost one". I believe, this fits better with Talenel than with Jezrien.
