  1. Something that irks me is that apparently Brandon has been considering writing a second Kaladin book. Not completely sure where I read that, so if anyone knows the source I'd welcome the knowledge. While his arc was enjoyable, I feel that it's unfair to the other characters to lavish so much time on one person. I'd much rather read more about Adolin, or Jasnah, or Dalinar. (My feelings about the Szeth arc are, of course, transparent.) The classic "small-town boy turned world leader" is just too... meh.
  2. Granted. It runs out of Stormlight and there's no one around to help you. Also: It lives! I wish for the power to manipulate the universe in any way I wish.
  3. Eh, sure. Let's move back toward the core topic, then. Though, that probably means we're just about done, unless you guys have anything to add.
  4. Riots; The Ardents had been living it up, and an initiate basically got pissed and slandered them. I'm just about ready to write her off, actually. I mean, Brandon seems to be going for some growth on Elhokar, but I don't really think that she's major enough to really matter.
  5. That actually makes a surprising amount of sense. Still, I'm wondering what the second arc will be about: Will it continue the fight with Odium (I'm not going to say any thing about the Last Desolation, because 8 books for that one conflict seems slightly ridiculous), or something entirely different? I'm hesitant to say if it would be anything about the rebuilding and unification of nations after the desolation, as I can't see such a plot lasting more than two books, max. Well, at least without getting boring.
  6. Oooohhhh. That makes so much more sense.
  7. AoL? Age of Legends? What? Do Facepalm moments in forums count?
  8. It makes me uneasy as well, but... I think we should just continue, as well: it doesn't make sense to add another thread just to facilitate an already ongoing debate.
  9. Hmm... I have a hard time believing that. While what you say makes sense from one perspective, another could be that maintaining sanity in situations such as the one he was in was a huge indication of "Strength before weakness."
  10. Ah, that makes sense. That's good enough, too.
  11. Hmm... was anything said about what'll happen with Nightblood?
  12. Honestly, I think he was something of a tragic villain. I'm not really in the camp that says he's "weak", nor in the one that says he "enjoys killing". Neither of these are correct, and are really an injustice to both Szeth the character and Szeth the person. Further, what you say is perfectly true. I think the best word for him is "victim". The sheer adherence he showed to a perfectly normal stone suggests that the Shamanate pretty much ingrains their beliefs into other Shin, effectively brainwashing them. This, added to the other things I have stated, lead me to come to the following conclusion: While his circumstances and how long he held out under them mark him as a truly respectable person, I hardly think that he is as of now a likable one. If his experience with the falsity of his title prove to make him a better- no, not better- more independent person, I would both like and respect him. I fully expect him to reach that point, even though Sanderson himself has shown some amount of bias for Kal, or against Szeth. For a bit of speculation: I can totally see some clash between what Nin says and what Szeth believes. His sense of justice- before he became unhinged- is something which I think the true Skybreakers must have adhered to. From Nin's actions, I highly doubt he's the same as he was during the time of the Heraldic Epochs. So, that'll be interesting.
  13. Oh, haha! Then you must have been the guy I wanted to... find... I mean, what?! Actually, I've been around a while, but only got an account a bit ago, and took longer to actually use it. I just forgot what side of the argument you're on. I do urge you to give him a chance, though: We've only seen the psycho-assassin side of him. If he is truly redeemed, he might actually become a character you could like. Well, either way, to each their own. Personally, I hold something of a bias for both Szeth and the (real) Skybreakers, so...
  14. *Thinks* ... Oh... OH.. OH, NO! Granted (somewhat). Maybe try this? Or try checking if there's a request thing here? And your curse is... penguins... think about it. (Till I come up with a reason, that is.) I wish for talking (but still helpless and otherwise normal) ice-cream. Edit: This topic seems to have gotten slow. My life is hereby a lie.
  15. I'm assuming you're talking about Szeth? (Based on other posts by you, if I recall correctly.) If so, I agree. I do think Kaladin's story should be told further, but what I'm looking forward to more is Szeth's (possible) redemption. Plus, the inevitable WTS?! moment when people find out that Szeth is alive beckons to me. It's probably quite a whiles off, but still. According to Brandon, SA 3 will be focused on Dalinar (as in, flashbacks) which worries me slightly. Nonetheless, I'm willing to wait as long as needed for that particular backstory: while all of them are tragedies of their own sorts, Szeth's is my type as it seems to be the story of a potential savior condemned. I don't really like him as a person as of now, but I've always thought more on what characters COULD be than what they are, soooo....
  16. Ah, I see! As a request of curiosity, could you cite that or guide me toward a WoB with that? I don't remember reading it, so I like to be sure.
  17. Ah! I see. Meanwhile, have any of you ever found it annoying when a person says they are "against fantasy because of Disney?"
  18. Yes! But... isn't that book 2...? Yeah! I keep trying to get my friends to take up WoT (I haven't even tried for Sanderson books yet, mostly because of their reluctance toward WoT) but all I've got is "Yeah, I will." IT'S BEEN SIX MONTHS.
  19. It's mostly speculation at this point (except for WoBs), but my take on the "two-trait" thing is that the spren type is an "umbrella" which covers them. So, it could be that to Syl (Honorable and deserved) Leadership could be one aspect, while protecting others (another act seen to be generally honorable) would be another. Something that reinforced this (at least for me) is the fact ( I think) that spren are Cognitive manifestations of what living beings feel and think. As such, since many people think Honor includes those things, Honorspren are attracted to those who exemplify such qualities. That's just my take, though: I may be just as likely to be right as others, but we don't really know.
  20. As I retain the power of the Nightwatcher, I also retain the right to give you what I feel you deserve. As such, I allow you to IMAGINE it, for now. (In all truth, this might not be the best place to ask that: it breaks the game. Someone else can likely direct you somewhere that is more suitable, though. Sorry!) I wish I didn't feel like a cremling for basically refusing Stormgate...
  21. Hmm... this topic's gotten quite deep. I never imagined it would turn into this, but am nonetheless happy. Speaking of continuing arcs..., which one are you most interested in seeing? I personally want to see Kaladin's return to his home, as well as his reaction to his status as a full KR. The whole Szeth-Nightblood-Vasher thing is compelling too, perhaps even more so, because of both the promising interactions between Nightblood and Szeth, as well as why Nightblood was with Nin.
  22. IF Shardplate is spren-based, it'd most likely just be one spren. Potential Radiants attract spren because of their personalities: a characteristic which far exceeds that which most other people have. For example, Syl bonded with Kaladin because of his honor, and his desire to protect. As such, it simply wouldn't make sense for one radiant to attract multiple Radiant-spren: they will almost always have more of one thing to their character than another.
