Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmm, is Brandon still dividing the books into flashback characters/present day viewpoint character and that they both won't necessarily be the same for each book (WoK and WoR just happened to turn out that with Kaladin and Shallan IIRC)? (grasping but I refuse to give up on Adolin! Maybe i'll take the route of Feather and start fan-fiction. Storms, what a dark path to take) either way, time will tell. Has Brandon ever been asked if most of the orders broke their oaths? I think it is too soon to count Brandon out with his plans just yet, especially with that cliffhanger. -
Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
I have to agree on your view the Edgedancers; it seems very against their ethos to do as the other orders did in the way they did it, although without knowing the reason for the Recreance, as you said, it is all wild speculation. I think Brandon may just surprise us, he is quite good at throwing people for loop but i'll put my money on radianthood for sure. The foreshadowing is strong in this one. (or else i'll eat wayne's hat) -
Adolin Radiancy? (Potential Spoilers)
ParadoxicalZen replied to FlatLine's topic in Stormlight Archive
A little late to the party but was trawling theoryland randomly when i came across one of the WoBs regarding Adolin reviving his blade http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kw=spren Interview number 105 Interview: Jan 17th, 2015Firefight Tour - El Cerrito, CA Cool. I’m not going to bother asking who did right now. With Syl being able to be revived, is Adolin ever going to be able to revive his own blade, or- Brandon Sanderson Ah, that would be very difficult, as the orig-, in most cases, the original person who broke the oaths has to be the one. QuestionOk. Do you have to have done the third oath before you can convert your spren into a Blade? Brandon SandersonUh, in most orders, yes. (forgive the terrible linkage and sutff, been a looooooooooooooooooooooong time since i've done anything like that) but emphasis mine I might be clutching at straws here but it seemed like, in this context/perspective, Brandon started to vaguely reference the original wielder of Adolin's blade in particular (again, clutching at straws but the wording struck me as odd). So crackpot theory brewing, what if there was some form of backlash from breaking the bond and oaths, which caused the ex-radiants to not age, or at the very least not die from old age (or something akin to them still having some cognitive/physical presence). Adolin, by some miracle would have to find the original wielder/cognitive shadow of wielder (maybe even as a curse vengeance from the Nightwatcher/Cultivation, especially seeing as the blade was like Wyndle), have them revive the bladespren by perhaps speaking and meaning the first oath to reforge the bond (possibly more oaths), then somehow find away to transfer the bond over to Adolin? TL;DR (ramble); Find original owner > get them to revive bond/spren by oaths, or some such > revival like this might reset bond to base level thus making it easier to transfer bond as Adolin speaks the oaths? or something like that -
For me, Breath is a tricky one. Given how i see it as the innate life investiture of Nalthians, the gathering of it makes you...more alive i guess, in the sense that it enhances you, or better yet, endows you with a greater perception/sense of life, maximising your visual/audio perceptions to their utmost max. As to why/how, I'm not quite sure but I agree it may have something to do with cognitive aspect somehow. I'd be curious to see if any other benefits may apply to the other senses as well

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Probably another RAFO bait but... The Recreance; we know the secret was so devastating that it caused the Knights to abandon their oaths, but was it planned beforehand in the sense that was there an agreement from both parties. Like perhaps did both Radiants and Spren agree that the bonds had to be broken despite what it would do to the spren, and perhaps the Knights did it at the spren's urging? (couldn't really find a good way to word it right) EDIT: Man i really should prepare these in advance but i can't help it, so many questions!! Another Hoid one: Given what we little we do know about Hoid's time-travel dilation and that he is far older (relative and real time) than an average human, does he age a lot slower than an average human on top of that as well? Hypothetically speaking, if the elantrians were to...say somehow replicate/rebuild the design of Elantris (+ the surrounding Aon) and incorporate it into the form a spaceship and then by happenstance, somehow miraculously infuse it with a certain degree of the Dor, would they have space travel? What would Shadesmar on Sel actually look like if you had window looking in? (perhaps a a certain lake could be used, or not) (RAFOEDIT: Is there/will there be, a Shard of Adonalsium roundabout the same time as the current books? Is Frost a Shard as well?) As a result of the Recreance, did the now ex-radiants suffer any consequences/backlash personally, in the sense of were they altered physically/mentally/...splintered? If an Aon's original assigned meaning changed over time e.g. Aon Ehe (Fire) and is eventually forgotten but becomes associated with another meaning, in this case Danger, would the original effect still remain or would it also change to reflect the new meaning? -

Renarin - Milo from Atlantis: The Lost Empire but with dark, longer hair I'm with apepi on Szeth looking like Aang and Adolin being a mini Arthas Still having a hard time picturing Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamo as a Celt but more of blend between Native American and Celt The Shin remind me of the Chrome Dome Empire from the anime Bobobobo Bobobo, yet malevolently nicer Whenever I think of chasmfiends, I think of giant shelled squids/octopi instead of carapaced scorpion/centipede hybrid thing o.O -
If I remember rightly, it is somewhere between chapter 57 to chapter 58 but the exact page number or line escapes me. It's either as Elend and Vin arrive at the well or just before. Hope this helps

the most useless uses for useful powers

I don't know if i really loathe any character to the extent that i can't forgive them, mainly due to understanding where they're coming from and why they've done what they have but there are a few that have annoyed me due to their behaviour although that is a result from having the bigger picture/most of the relevant information. Elhokar: I get why he's acting the spoilt brat and why he is the way he is, given his upbringing and Alethi culture, but you'd think after having spent so long waging war yet still being 'incompetent' that it'd be time to think to yourself 'Right, maybe it is time i storming grow up because I've seriously got to start shaping up and make good ol' pops proud' especially seeing as he's paranoid that everyone's always making him feel inadequate next to his father. I mean, his uncle could easily provide advice and guidance on ruling, instead of just thinking 'I'm King and because i've got the crown, what I say goes'. It reminds me a little of Joffrey (Not that extreme but you get the idea). Although that line of thought is tricky seeing as we don't know how much schooling he had in leadership prior to Gavilar's death, so having the crown dropped in your lap so may just throw anyone for a loop. Kaladin: Breaking his bond with Syl. This, for me, is major facepalm moment considering how close he had grown to Syl prior to the breaking. You can see how affectionate towards her he is and how much he appreciates that she is there so when he starts spouting about Elhokar's removal etc, surely you would have paid attention to how it was affecting Syl and what it was doing to the bond. Eshonai: Considering the parshendi attitudes towards their gods and history, and even Eshonai's mother's rambled warnings, you'd think she would have got the hint that Stormspren = bad news, even if it does save your people from extinction but hey....worldbuilding and storydriving

Funniest Scenes in Stormlight Archive (so far)
ParadoxicalZen replied to Tetriona's topic in Stormlight Archive
Everything Hoid/Wit, but as axcellence said, Shallan's comebacks on the description of love had me in envious awe. If Brandon manages to keep this up throughout the whole of SA, i may just die from being unable to draw breath as my mouth will permanently frozen from laughing too much -

"Expense?" Wit cut in. "Sadeas, I don't believe you've ever paid me a sphere. Though no, please don't offer. I can't take your money, as I know how many others you must pay to get what you wish of them" Sadeas flushed, but kept his temper. "A whore joke, Wit? Is that the best you can manage?" "I point out truths when I see them, Brightlord Sadeas. Each man has his place. Mine is to make insults. Yours is to be in-sluts." So much love for Hoid -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I knew that, was just curious, given Hoid's very different/altered 'alien' nature, if Hemalurgy would even work at all would be interesting to know Hadn't seen it brought up about the foci but haven't trawled for WoB's in ages, thanks ^^ Also worked out some were a mix, but after recalling the H/C/O topic, was wondering if all the Nahel spren were a mix or if a few were pure Honor/Cultivation, couldn't remember if it had been answered Hmm, i knew he was practically immortal but not that he's not very good at killing due to past events...intriguing line of thought there Flying Bondsmith? Makes for an interesting pub name o.O Thanks Moogle! EDIT: On another note, A question of Hoid's altered nature, did he do it to himself, was it a natural thing (meaning did it happen over the course of his meddling) or was it done by an outside force (perhaps as a result of his meddling) -
The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
ParadoxicalZen replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
If someone, say from the Dark Alley, were to attempt (foolishly, with hilarious results) to spike Hoid, what kind of spike would be the result, if any at all? Could any planetary resource focus e.g. Roshar's gems as a hemalurgical spike or is it only limited to metals? Would the results be the same if this isn't the case? In terms of Awakening Research, in different fields and the like, how far would you say Hallandren has come in terms of Awakening development and knowledge? In the case of not far at all, Is there any particular or main reason as to why it has slowed down so much? Would you say that all the Knights Radiant are an equal blend of the Rosharan Shards power or are they all a mixed percentage? (RAFO bait) In terms of combat potential, how dangerous (or crazy) would Hoid be in a fight? Are the two Origins in Roshar's seas similar to shardpools? What would the cognitive aspects of Hoid/Stormfather/Nightwatcher look like? When first Vo first Returned, was he near to an area heavily invested by Endowment? If you could combine any two surges to form your own Order, what would they be and why? so many more questions *_* -
Sanderfan/Fanderson Sanderspren (Y) Fanspren could be the elite superfans

Dustbringer, because....well fire Seriously though, this is a tricky because i don't fit with just one order so my choices would be; Edgedancer Willshaper Truthwatcher Dustbringer Elsecaller
-
Hoid is nigh godlike anyway so pretty easy win there Vin would only be able to do it if she had just literally taken up Preservation (or if she was playing support) Kelsier DOA? cause he doesn't hold Preservation for long nor when he was alive would his allomancy be a match Szeth would get pwned, Elend also Dalinar mayhaps if he could land a blow with Oathbringer Raoden would just concoct some Aon's reduce Goku to dust But i'm with king of nowhere on this, DBZ has a inconsistent 'magic/power' system so it's pretty hard to say really

Dalinar, Sadeas's murder and public opinion
ParadoxicalZen replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think Dalinar will be a cross of disappointment, disbelieving, crushed, a little relieved yet dismayed and perhaps a little more broken seeing as his oldest son is like his pride and joy and you've just found out he's possibly killed your once oldest friend in a really 'dishnourable' way. I believe it'll play out with adolin trying to hide his innocence for a short while then coming clean > trial > exile to perhaps Alethkar to deal with the riots where he'll perhaps *Aluminium-foil hat* start and/or complete his journey of possible Radiancy (i'm on the edgedancer boat given the order's first oath) but maybe not *Removes hat*. Although, Brandon could pull a whammy and decide to kill him instead, although I can't really see it happening. Public opinion on the matter will divided. Ialai will be out for blood and revenge, Shallan may initially be shocked but I think she'll come to some sort of understanding akin to Jasnah's earlier incident once she's had time to think on it, maybe even before then. Kaladin i think will have mixed feelings; he won't necessarily agree with it and how it was done but I can see him siding with Adolin. Renarin i think will be Adolin's Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor, refraining from judgement. The rest of Shattered Plains company and the other Highprinces.....would have an easier time of working out the ingredients for chouta -
Wasn't the shardplate of old adorned with the glowing glyphs of the respective radiant orders, and as a possible result of the Recreance, the plate 'broke' and lost the glyphs and functions it would have had had the nahel not been broken? Along with freezing the Nahel spren into shardblade form, the shardplate could have become mostly consigned to the physical realm, essentially just being a much greater than average armour. It still regenerates and provides the physical bonuses but unlike shardblades, it's form remaind trapped and has limited cognitive function, like when Dalinar commands the gauntlets to disconnect from his armour, whereas they wouldn't be able to dismiss any part of the armour entirely like the radiant did with the helm in Dalinar's vision. After reading that question and corresponding WoB from Reddit/Signing/Interview (can't remember where) about the flock of spren that surrounds the radiants as they're using their abilities to some degree and if it is at all related to Shardplate to which Brandon gave a really gleefully evasive answer (i think, as they become more aligned with the respective spren type i.e kaladin flying around, enjoying the freedom like windspren and Shallan becoming immersed in her creation. should they possibly speak more oaths/truths, the spren come to see themselves as a whole instead of one, which could form the armour) ramblerambleramble On the topic of why surgebinding didn't work with shardplate now, I believe it has to do with it being broken. For the example of when the radiant lashed himself whilst in plate, it could be that given that the plate may have been a by-product of his bond, it may not have been affected so.

Sacrifice a Dakhor monk to teleport from home to the shop to pick up food then another to teleport to the cashier as you're laden with bags Use Chay Shan as a warm up before walking the dogs Use a Steel Push to cause a domino run Riot/Soothe a club/bar to dance very badly to a rubbish song Lash a car a few times so it just hovers in the air Stick a label onto an object with stormlight instead of using the adhesive side but label it incorrectly (reusable) watch as passing scholars get irate -
