  1. Interesting....thanks, i'll give it some thought!
  2. Kurk, has it been confirmed whether a Pulser/Slider's Cognitive perception of time plays a part in Time Passing/Slowing before/during/after burning?
  3. I was always under the impression that the Cosmere is a Dwarf Galaxy (given that Roshar is in the shape of one and i 'think' it as confirmed that the Greater Roshar sytem is in said D-Galaxy) that happened to have one planet/system (Yolen) excel to such an advanced point of development and technology (beyond our comprehension in how we view our world etc.) that, somehow they managed to manifest/harness a minute fraction of the primal force of existence and then condense it into Adonalsium (at least, perhaps the part that exists on all 3 realms as the Cosmere's Physical/Cognitive/Spiritual avatar/representation so to speak, way too soon to even go there on that) In my view of the Survival Shard Mist, I would hazard a guess that the more another Shard Invests itself on a planet, the less it can do Cosmere-wide (move from system to system etc.), so it would always either be changing in some way/hiding/fleeing one system/staying one step ahead (hazarding it would be very good at precognition/foresight) after another or (how I interpret 'Survival' anyway, Evolution/Adaptation) has invested itself in a planet that has very cosmere-aware and powerful Splinters/Slivers in case of another hostile Shard comes. 4. You mean Endowment's innate Investiture? As for your pondering, I always thought it was a mixture of Distortion and Percpetion (akin to something like a Glass Prism) of the colours that changed due to the other people around the Awakeners only noticing an increase in brightness of colour and not really being able to identify the different tones/shades. That is an interesting question; I just took it for granted that anyone could see the effect should they be close to an Awakener, drabs included, but I don't remember if it was stated anywhere in-book but thinking on it now, I believe it could be that it isn't visible to someone without Breath or someone with different (but greater) source of Investment
  5. I haven't read Alcatraz/Rithmatist so I don't know if either are based on Earth but I do know that any Earth based series (or 'breather novels' aren't Cosmere and there was confirmation (multiple times i believe) that Brandon has stated it isn't Cosmere, much to the dismay of a fair group of readers. I'll see if i can dig up a WoB..... Here's one
  6. Believe it was confirmed by WoB not too long i think. I think it is because the connection isn;t that strong
  7. This...is quite interesting, something that completely vanished from my mind. I like it
  8. I think when he said Highstorms in this instance, it was more in the context of referring to Highstorms in general, as in; 'Highstorms are a regular occurrence on Roshar'; 'the past few Highstorms have been quite bad' etc. etc.
  9. Chach's Beard, that sounds like Damnation itself. Although i could think of something worse, namely being caught in a dispute between Windrunners and Skybreakers like in that epigraph, only with Elsecaller scholars debating the philosophy of the situation added in the mix I'd rather face Odium full on
  10. I meant would they suffer from distance decay in other parts of Sel. We know Forgery from WoBs and AonDor in-book do, but was just curious as to whether ChayShan/Dahkor might given how Shuden's display of ChayShan and Dilaf/Hrathen's Invested strength differed from what we saw of Raoden and the other Elantrians in Teod...but that discussion is for another time when we have more info (Although it does make me think of External/Internal application). I just meant as general classification, in the way Brandon classed several 'metal' Cosmere objects on how hard would it be to push/pull invested metal objects of varieties (Hemalurgical Spike/Nightblood etc) perhaps in terms of mileage (half-joke)? Thanks again Moogle
  11. If i remember rightly, the (Highstorm) Origin is far out in the Eastern ocean, beyond the shattered plains whilst it has been speculated/theorised that the Everstorm will originate/spawn (or used to originate in past Desolations, if it even happened in past Desolations o.O) in an Origin far to the West, past Shinovar, in the Western ocean, similarly to the Highstorms. If this is the case, perhaps both are diametrical to each other and are opposite sides of the planet. Would be an interesting thought if Shinovar was the Origin 'cause i don't think Cultivation would take too kindly to that much destruction on her garden x)
  12. I really should make a list (a long, long, long, long list...or even my own topic >.>) of all my questions but with recent Elantris discussion, a few things bubbled up; Although it may be covered in the sequels and we haven't really seen the other magic systems properly, but could the other kingdoms/countries/magic foci centres do something similar to what Elantris does with the giant Aon Rao, or can only one region do it at a time? If they also can, would they have similar effects to AonDor? Are all of Sel's magics limited by distance decay, and if so, could you list the ones we've seen in order of worst effected to least effected? (no doubt a RAFO) Why is it Aon Rao that causes an amplication effect on AonDor? (was this ever explained?)
  13. Hmm, Elantris is always a hard one for me to pick faves. There just isn't any one trait of any character that i love or hate because for me, they're all quite coookie cutter-like. Not to say that is a bad thing but I just don't get any of the cheer/root feels. So i just went with Other ^^
  14. I'll re-read the ending again after work but i could have sworn that the Stormfather summoned the Highstorm earlier than the natural spawn time due to the imminent arrival of the Everstorm. I believe the Stormfather was even commenting to Kaladin (or someone anyway) just before his fight with Szeth on how summoning the Highstorm early was to initially slow the Everstorm down (to buy time or at least to try stop it) ergo Kaladin's fight with Szeth in the middle of the two raging storms because it was all he could do. In that case, I'd say it would most likely be the first scenario but even then, the Stormwardens never got their predictions to 100% accuracy (I think it is something to lines of more often than not). I'll edit this post later with the relevant information when i find it (I think the part with the Stormfather is right before the Everstorm manifests if anyone beats me to it).
  15. I agree with the aforementioned view, in terms of the Cosmere, where there is a major Investment/appearance of magic/supernatural occurrences and happenings, you could probably expect some form of worship to arise; especially if they don't know the whats, the whys, the hows and the huhs or aren't made aware of the specifics by someone more versed in it but that isn't to say it will always be the case.
  16. Hmm, do not think i saw that WoB about that, do we have actualy confirmation yet
  17. See, when i think of the whole 'Sel is dangerous to get to/travel in via Cognitive Realm', I see it like the Netherstorm area of the Outland continent in World of Warcraft, which is basically a large amount of huge floating rocks scattered in the sky with a few interconnected floating islands/small continental plates which are packed close together and linked by small bridges forming the main area, with massive lighting storms in the area (mainly background). In the case of Sel, I see it as a little more drastic that that, with these storms being crazy powerful given the current states of the splintered Shards (as LabRat said, a burning furnace of raw power) and perhaps the kindoms/countries in the physical being represent by these plates. (You may argue that this does seem like an empty wasteland of near-nothingness but that statement to me screams of a place suffering from a nuclear fallout or a large bland desert that just goes on and on and on and on...etc.) I am curious as to which world it is though
  18. I think the surges work in both directions, it is just the little things that can be done with the surge or how the power is used that differentiates the parent Orders (along with Oaths, Morals, Spren etc) As for calling Kaladin Bridgeboy, I think it started as a half-ignorant/callous rich boy thinking it amusing banter to this awkward yet playful camaraderie in the vein of we'd-actually-be-really-good-friends/rivals-if-it-weren't-for-this-culture thing
  19. Given Hoid's aloof, smug, knowledgeable, and yet, incredibly endearing ways, I believe he knows more about the nature of Investiture and its uses/purpose than we've seen/yet to see. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd managed to work out how to suppress Breaths among other things. On the situation of Vasher at the beginning of Warbreaker, i think given that he was already suppressing his Divine Breath and may not have been able to suppress the normal ones. Do we have any confirmation yet of how long exactly Hoid has been on Nalthis?
  20. I don't think it is possible to drain hair colour, at least from the royal locks anyway, given that the locks are a sign as being descended from Vo the First Returned and therefore more Invested than normal hair. This reminds of WW's question in regards to whether if you were to cut the hair of someone with the Royal Locks, would they be able to change the colour of the hair on both sides of the cut (one of WW's examples was this; Let's say Siri's hair is two feet long. A shardblade passes through the hair exactly in the middle ("dividing" the hair into two one-foot sections). In your previous answer you said that while usually the shardblade would just sever the hair (leaving only a foot attached to the head) with the Royal locks the entire two feet would remain attached but only the foot on the "head" side of the cut would be able to change color.) So perhaps after it had been cut by...Shardscissors/razor? you could possibly drain the colour from the 'dead' side of the hair http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/cs07oz0?context=10000
  21. Nor did he specify if it was a minor/major Shardworld so i'm guessing that there is barely, if any cognitive function on the world itself
  22. I'd say given that Shu-Keseg, and to a lesser extent ChayShan, were the original starting points of current Selish cultures/ways of life (excluding Mai Pon given we're not sure of how their history ties in with the rest of Sel). In the case of Dakhor monks, wasn't Dilaf infused with the power of like 50 monks or something, i think the actual number was in the book so i guess, they greater the Investment, the less effect it has perhaps. Lab, i'll see if i can find it, but i remember a WoB on theoryland saying that Soulstamps get weaker the further from Mai Pon they are, so i'm guessing Forgery as a whole will. ah...here it is
  23. Populations are a bit of vague thing for me but i do recall, as Oudeis has said, there has been a confirmation of sorts regarding Scadrial's population figures discussed over here in Argent's topic here http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/31388-impact-of-the-end-of-the-hero-of-ages-to-the-final-empires-population/ As for the questions, i recall reading a WoB that the languages have similar words/concepts and have been spread over the cosmere via Worldhoppers and other means e.g. Siri in Warbreaker mentions Shash as a letter i believe, which is also the name of the brand Kaladin has on his forehead etc. so there are common origins. Hallendren hasn't be expanded upon quite yet (hopefully more in Nightblood) but i don't think they believe in Austre like the Idrians do, though they may have done in the past. They do have some vague ideas in regard to the Tone as Oudeis said and they might also revere/respect the Tears of Edgli given their significance to their culture/economy. As for Selish magics, again hard to say since seeing as Aona/Skai were killed and their Shards shattered/splintered, Selish magic doesn't work quite the way it used to. If i remember rightly, despite being from the same planet, there's something funky going on with their spiritual DNA which effects their cognitive and physical DNA somehow (don't quote me on this, was a long time ago and can't remember if WoBs were involved/linked but i think there was) or to expand on what Oudeis, it might work along a ley-line nexus scenario and Elantris' was purporsely built on top of one with the Aon Rao to help harness and amplify it.
  24. As mentioned above, Honourspren are quite discerning, especially in regards to the potential of proto-radiants (and i think how many oaths they might swear. I don't think it has been said that a radiant has to swear all 5 oaths, just that they're a kind of progression bar of sorts) so the likelihood of them bonding someone completely inappropriate for Windrunner Radiancy is unlikely. In regards to the rigidity of Windrunner oaths especially, i believe it is more the spren's perception of the matter that factors most into it, (i think a ratio of about 60/40 to spren/radiant) given Syl was, for lack of a better word, offering advice/guidance/insight every time Moash and Kaladin were having their i-hate-lighteyes talks or was acting in some way opposed to Windrunner standards. She was being the moral conscience guide for Kaladin even just before Kaladin made that promise to Moash, which i believe he knew deep down. In terms of the 2nd and 3rd oaths, didn't one of Kaladin's CO's even tell him that you can't save everyone and that, as a leader you had to accept that fact, because i seem to recall when Teft was explaining about the first oath with Life Before Death that Radiant shouldn't throw their life away frivolously. I like that a lot of Stormlight Archive stuff is based around perspective/interpretation, especially when it is reflected in the Radiant orders and their interpretations of Honour reflected through the words they must speak and the personalities of their associate spren, which i think was Brandon's goal perhaps. In regards the second question and in relation to why i think certain spren pick candidates (in my opinion anyway), i don't think it is a fact of whether the person is 'good' or not, but more if the Order's relative Ideals come more naturally to the candidate (and/or a greatly capable of embodying these Ideals) then a bond more likely will form and I feel the bond's purpose (aside from desolations and stuff) helps bring those Ideals out more/refines the person into something more clear-cut. There is just so many ways to look at the situation so I expect we'll see a bit more clarity of the whole situation once there are more members of each order about, if not a little before
  25. You know you're a Sanderfan when your brain is overloading due to making possible cosmere connections and all the questions are firing in your head one after the other and these questions won't go away until you get your answers but your only hope for these answers is to beg the creator for answers and hope you don't get RAFO'd too much...*breathes* so many questions
