News Roundup: Stormlight Update, Space Age Stormlight Symbol
Iarwainiel I commented on thegatorgirl00's article in Brandon and Book News
He's still working on the Mistborn screenplay - does anyone know if he's spoken with Joe Straczynski (JMS) about writing these types of scripts? Since he's working with JMS on The Dark One, we know they have a professional relationship; and JMS has lots of experience writing screenplays (Sense8 and Babylon 5, among others). Maybe that's where Brandon has gotten the encouragement to DIY this? - because that's how Straczynski ended up writing almost all of B5: no one else could do it up to the standards he wanted. As much as I long for SA4 to be dome and SA5 started, I'm glad Brandon has so may irons in the fire! -
Favorite Non-Cosmere Sanderson Character
Iarwainiel I replied to StanLemon's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Wow - that's great news! The developers must have updated them - I'm pretty sure that they were unavailable for a while, & people were complaining about it on some Reddit feeds. Both the gameplay and the storylines are really worthwhile, and Brandon's 2 novellas provide a link between IB1 and IB2, and between IB2 and IB3. Lots of the armor reminds me of Shardplate. -
What do Sanderfans do when we are stuck at home?
Iarwainiel I replied to Singer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you said "fight against captivity," I thought you were going to mention Shai (from The Emperor's Soul). Shai could also be added to the poll as, "Doing crafts" (since sketching/drawing and studying are already taken by Shallan and Jasnah, respectively, and prolly not many of us are "Carving things from stone"). -
Favorite Non-Cosmere Sanderson Character

I'm gonna go deep-cut here and say Jori/Radriar from Infinity Blade. The game designers created the initial character in the video game (the "God King" shown above), but Brandon created the backstory and told it in his novellas. I don't think the novellas will make a lot of sense if you haven't played the game, and I'm pretty sure the game is no longer available, which is a shame - the actual storyline was wonderful. And where else could you equip your character with a "helmet" that's a turkey head (below)? There was also a Santa-head helmet, a Jack-o-Lantern helmet, and armor that was made of cardboard boxes. A great action/adventure game with fun elements too! -
@McWafy - Here's the perfect dog for you!

I was expecting a Monty Python reference here ("Rule number 6: There is no Rule number 6."), but that's prolly bcos I'm way old. Oh well, at least it gave me a chuckle. But that means I'm not bored, so I better "be somewhere else" (oops - Babylon 5 reference there ... leaving now.

OP, I feel your anxiety & I truly hope you can find something more real-world to anchor your spirit to in these rough & stormy seas. You can learn to care like Kaladin, & learn to pick up the pieces like Shallan, & find strong & trustworthy leaders to follow here and now - real people, not just fiction. As Sander-fans, our idealism can deepen our sorrow at life's difficulties, but it's also our idealism that can help see us through. You're stronger than you think - I know it!

What a fun thread! I've had a wide variety of favorites: biscuits & sausage gravy, circus peanuts (yes, those orange candies; I offer this as proof of eccentricity), Texas-style smoked brisket, fresh mango (yum!), ... enough. For this list, I offer this Unkalaki-worthy beef stew - I could literally eat it every day & never tire of it: https://www.canadianliving.com/food/lunch-and-dinner/recipe/the-ultimate-beef-stew-1 It is easily the most difficult thing I have ever cooked, but sooooooo worth it!

So the Urithuru mural (not the in-world painting of Ishar) does depict a shardpool or some kind of perpendicularity - huh; I'm usually wrong about everything, but this time I got it right. It reminds me of the bottom of this illustration from Oathbringer - like the crescent at the left is actually a circle, and that's what's in the Urithuru mural: I wonder if that painting of Ishar isn't based on an age-old misinterpretation of the mural in Urithuru - like, when they left there, people remembered the murals and made their own copies, and through the centuries the real meanings of the images were lost and other meanings got applied. Always another secret in the Cosmere!

I agree with some others that the "cloud bursting with energy and light" is Honor and the "woman in the shape of a tree" is Cultivation. I wonder if the "large blue disc" isn't a shardpool? No guess as to the "figure" embracing it. Maybe the 10 kinds of spren relate more to the 10 Heralds? Ishar wouldn't have had 3 types of spren while the other Heralds have just 1. And maybe we're having difficulty because at this point Shallan doesn't know enough to be a reliable narrator, even if the chamber wasn't so dark. This is a great thread & question @Master_Moridin !

@Goatbringer, I am VERY much looking forward your wife meeting Lift! And Wyndle too! Can you imagine? I wonder what Lift's Tay-designation will be? I bet there will be quite a strong affinity between them. I wonder what she'll think of Edgedancer, especially the Dysian Aimian. Oooh, have you been reading her the back cover blurbs too? I wonder if she'll guess that it's that Dysian who is the author of that cover text? She did well guessing Wit. Thank you for sharing this with all of us!!

I notice that our Forum is getting spammed a lot lately - last time it was in the "Introduce Yourself" topic; today (3/29/2020) it's the "General Brandon Discussion" topic and also in the Gallery.
I'm most concerned re: the Gallery images because I know that malware can be hidden inside images, and even just viewing them puts one at risk. Since we have users of all tech-ability levels, it just makes me worried for them.
Thank you and the whole team for keeping us safe on here!!!

Absolutely! Oh I just remembered - I used to have a different name for Elhokar because I could never remember it. I used to call him "El-Hokey-Doke." (Now, of course, seeing what happened with him in Oathbringer, I'm sorry to have done that, but I really was having difficulty remembering.) Anyway, @Goatbringer, ask your wife what she thinks of "El-Hokey-Doke;" it's not as colorful as "Boi King" but then again I'm not that funny.

@Goatbringer I have an idea - - You & your lovely wife should get through the first 3 SA books in the next 7 months, and then you should bring her to the Rhythm of War release party (please God let that still happen!! it's months away!). And the 2 of you should do like a standup comedy routine either before Brandon takes the stage, or to entertain the crowds waiting in line for him to sign their book, or something. This stuff is too hilarious to exist only inside the Shard - it needs to be set free to amuse all of mankind!

Whoever on this Forum pointed me to the YouTube channel for Jelle's Marble Runs a couple years ago - THANK YOU!!! I've been following them for a couple years and (wow! squeeing!) yesterday they actually thanked me on Twitter! (Yes, that's my real name - I trust you all.) Jelle & team are being covered on lots of the major sports media now during the Covid-19 crisis, & he's almost up to 720,000 subscribers on YT. Jelle & Dion (brothers from the Netherlands) deserve all the attention & support they get & more. If you've never watched one of his races, you're in for a treat! Here's the URL for his YT home page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYJdpnjuSWVOLgGT9fIzL0g Again, I found out about JMR here on the 17th Shard. Sander-fans are the BEST!!!

(FYI - I am prolly a lot older than the rest of you, & times were different back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, LOL...) I remember when I was in grad school, & coming in to an evening class all excited because I had found a copy of one of my favorite childhood books in the college bookstore and bought it. My friends were all excited to see what it was. I proudly pulled it out of the bag and said "It's The White Stag!" And they said, "What's it about?" And the looks on their faces when I oh-so-happily replied, "Attila the Hun! It's a wonderful story!" Then they all told me that they already knew I was weird... But srsly, it is a great story - more myth than history. The book won some children's lit awards too. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_White_Stag

Wonder Woman 1984 - costume looks like Shardplate?
Iarwainiel I replied to Iarwainiel I's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Fantastic! Ya know, for "a world of stone and storms" (TWoK cover flap, from Brandon's site), Roshar is turning out to be very, very colorful.- 16 replies

I received this image from a friend who's close to a very prominent violist (if you're a violist, you'd know him, so I won't say out of respect for privacy). [[ Disclaimer: It is fake - not true! Wish it were true, & not just 'cause it'd be easy $$ for violists everywhere.]]

Wonder Woman 1984 - costume looks like Shardplate?
Iarwainiel I replied to Iarwainiel I's topic in Entertainment Discussion
IIRC Elhokar's Sharplate was golden - he'd had it painted. Dalinar was supposedly unusual in that he left his its natural slate grey. Buuuuuuuut - when our KRs get their own real plate (4th ideal?) who knows if it will be grey? Remember how Syl-blade was so much brighter than a typical Shardblade (from WoR somewhere - don't have my book handy). So new plate might not be grey after all... I totally agree! (I thought that her arm does look like "sections that overlap.) In WoK, I kept re-reading the descriptions of chasmfiend carapace, because it was almost identical to how plate was described. So I've always pictured plate as being more like carapace or exoskeleton, less like the suits of armor we see in museums. Since I don't play videogames, my imagination doesn't have as many reference points compared to my fellow Shard-ers. :-) In any case, what Brandon comes up with will doubtless be best of all!- 16 replies
