  1. Brandon also gets help from all kinds of people, and I remember him accepting the help of someone on reddit who said they had a Physics Ph. D or something. Most amazing thread I've ever read. I googled "harmonium oxide" thinking I was a genius and that made me stumble upon that thread, lol. Here are some WoB I'm surprised I didn't see in this thread that hint at your thinking being very much on the right track. You wrote: WoB: On Harmonium being a combination of ruin atoms and preservation atoms but a not ruin metal and preservation metal alloy:
  2. hi

"Ambition is not on a planet, but he/she is not the Shard Brandon has previously referred to as the one not on a planet. So, there are two out there."

Can you tell me more about this exchange?

Because Ambition is dead/splintered. Does it mean that it died not on a planet, or that it may have died on a planet but is not on one any more since it is nowhere?

      Hmmm. Got that WoB handy?

I was thinking that maybe what happened to Ambition was like a Beta Test.

And I'm still tossing the idea around that Odium is being manipulated by Autonomy. @yurisses regarding the fact that Odium wasn't actually penned on Ambitions shattering.

What if it started kinda like this:

      • Autonomy: I wonder.. If I did this what would happen?
      • Odium appears: Now that sounds fun. Let's try it on Ambition, he was always a prat.
      • Autonomy: No Raise, you are a prat. Ambition is a fool who reaches to high.
      • Odium: ** Snorts ** Sooooo..
      • Autonomy: I will not have you harm this system. Ambition was always intimidated by you. Scare him away for me will you.
      • Odium: ** Chuckles malevolently **

** Sigh ** I wish I could Cadmium bubble 15 years into the future..

@Hoids Imaginary Friend, what WoB are you looking for? The one that says Odium targeted Ambition? That's linked in my previous reply. I believe @Argent was the one who asked about it, and he was at least present, if you want some more specifics on the exchange. But I don't think the dialogue you put forth fits with Odium having Ambition on the top of his hit list.

@Pagerunner Thanks heaps; love how friendly and helpful you guys are ;)

Yes that was the WoB I was after. I realized I'd already read it. Thanks again.

The dialogue I put forth was merely some fun against the suggestion: What happened to Ambition was like a Beta Test.

  3. ello! Thanks for your Q/A reports! This one is very intriguing to me, do you mind giving me the recording for this one so I can hear Brandon's tone and stuff? (or just the entire recording if you don't want to go to the trouble of isolating that one question)

Necarion: The compounding trick that the Lord Ruler performed. When you’re storing investiture, are you storing your ‘mistborn-ness’ or all the powers individually?
Brandon: All of the powers individually
Necarion: [Surprised, because this dashed a favorite theory of mine] Oh okay!
Brandon: Yeah, the compounding trick. Really what’s happening is you’re fueling feruchemy with the power of allomancy, but you’re filtering it through you, and then you’re storing it.
Necarion: So it’s not that you’re a more powerful mistborn when you’ve tapped [investiture]
    Brandon: No, good question.

Well that's what I get for relying on word-search for "nicro". :/

It seems almost like Brandon misinterpreted the question and thought Necarion was asking about compounding for a bit there (particularly when Brandon says that), but then by the end all the sudden we're talking about how powerful mistborn are again and Brandon doesn't challenge it. I can't say there's much to glean from it given the possibility that Brandon and Necarion were talking past one another.

I thought the same thing, which is funny because I've always felt like one of the main WoBs for there being an reverse-compounding trick (http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977#88) could also be a misunderstanding as Brandon just casually seems to reveal you can compound allomancy and adds "don't forget" like we were supposed to know.

Still, what are your best FTL guesses as of this time? I loved your "jump" theory with huge bendalloy bubbles and small cadmium bubbles but that's from 2013.

That's a good thought on that WoB just being a super-early reveal of what happened with the Bands of Mourning.

Sorry if it's disappointing, but my 2013 theory is still the one to beat so far as I can see: If it ain't broke don't fix it. The only real flaw is assumption 2.5, which stated (inaccurately) that being in vacuum would increase the size of time bubbles.

  5. That's the story of Bands of Mourning.
  6. No worries, I hope my wording didn't make me sound angry, because I don't mind at all. (truth be told I wanted to discuss Hoid's use of the bead too but was on the fence about making a thread so you gave me an opportunity to merge the two subjects) My suggestion is that Lerasium feruchemy/hemalurgy can probably make you a stronger allomancer and/or other cool things we can't even imagine. The way Brandon worded his RAFOs suggests that Lerasium feruchemy is important and cool... And yep, my belief is that both Hoid and TLR used Lerasium feruchemically and figured out cool stuff with it. Heck, maybe even Kel was doing it. As for the new WoB, it could be misdirection, "you have seen him use allomancy in other books, but I won't tell you if he got it by eating the bead or other means, that's your answer!" The wording of the old WoB also suggests Brandon is trying to avoid the question and misdirect us hard to leave him be on the subject of Lerasium feruchemy, but maybe that's confirmation bias on my part... Although it is definitely something we have seen Brandon do a bunch of times.
  7. First of all, I'm not talking about the bead Hoid stole but the one TLR took for himself and held onto. Check out the quoted section in the opening post for more details. (That said, it's technically possible the two are one and the same. Hoid would have stolen TLR's bead that he kept near the well. edit: I now doubt that this is the case, or that Rashek's bead was the one Elend ate.. The WoB's wording suggests TLR owned at least three beads, one of which for personal use. "The Lord Ruler took one [Lerasium bead] for himself and he left others there to use if he needed them.") Second, we already had an old WoB saying something very similar, and coincidentally, I had something talking about this bead in my notes, too, and I don't agree with your conclusion:
  8. 'ello! So before SoS came out I had some notes about the lost bead of Lerasium, and then I realised the issue would probably be addressed in BoM so I stopped thinking about it. Thing is, as you know, BoM did not at all deal with this issue, since the titular Bands were not TLR's! What do we know that I am missing as to what happened to the lost bead? ... Read The Lost Metal and find out?
  9. In the epilogue of WoR, Hoid has a deep one-sided conversation with a songling and a "lizard-crab-thing". Could it be that this was a Dysian Amian? Hoid knows what they are (he mentions them to Dalinar).
  10. Brandon told FeatherWriter that in WoK Prime Renarin wrote the Diagram. This adds to the list of arguments for there being something atypical about his Truthwatching. Brandon has confirmed that the writings Dalinar thinks he is writing were done by Renarin. I wouldn't be surprised if the Nightwatcher/Cultivation was involved... It's kind of similar to how Taravangian wrote the Diagram on walls in a frenzy.
  11. We've been wondering for quite a while about why Nale thinks Knights Radiants can cause desolations and Edgedancer gave us a tiny bit more information why: What are your theories as to how the yet-to-be-discovered greater power of the oaths can potentially allow Voidbringers to return if Honor is not here to regulate this?
  12. Worldbringers and worldsingers though!
  13. In chapter 6, Lift talks to a street urchin missing too many teeth for her age and talking in a strange street dialect. She left asking Lift if she was listenin', and saying that "people, they don't listen". It turns out later that the next oath Lift must speak is "I will listen to those who have been ignored". Is this a coincidence, or are we seeing someone in the know giving Lift a push the same way Ol' Whitehair did to Shallan?

  15. Hello! Been a while. I've been wondering lately... There was a post Brandon made that suggested SH was where he finally disclosed why Hoid spooked Vin. In the book we find out that Kelsier was shouting at her not to see him from the cognitive realm. But in past WoBs (I think there was an annotation and something else) Brandon said that something Hoid does spooks Vin and that she is too observant for her own good. My conclusion is that the original reason for Vin not meeting Hoid was "retconned" (to the extent that WoBs can be considered canon). Has anyone asked Brandon about this? I'm curious what the original reason was. Some of the theories were that she picked up pulses from his lightweaving or other magics, or that his humming was eerily skillful (perfect pitch).
  16. Heya, I've been inactive on the forum since around after SH's release...? I need to get back into cosmere theorising hahaha.... Anyway, I might be going there. It'd be my first time meeting Brandon. What should I know before going? Should I make an audio recording of the event? Does Brandon need any help whatsoever?
  17. Could you please link this WoB?
  18. Bands of Mourning and Secret History spoilers:
  19. In Stormlight (?) he says something along the lines of he has found a place where he must be but he doesn't know why, and that this thing doesn't work as well as he wished.
  20. The Ghostbloods have some degree of cosmere awareness, but I doubt that hemalurgy will feature in SA at all. Yes... sometimes a pipe is just a pipe. That said, Brandon said on Goodreads that if Miles survived being spiked, he could theoretically heal back his allomancy if it was spiked out of him, as gold feruchemy heals the soul--as does stormlight. (And he could probably heal back his feruchemy as well by burning a metalmind.)
  21. Yes, he's using a form of Feruchemy. Some have theorised it is something along the lines of Fortune + maps and darts, but there must be something more to it, with that new knowledge...
  22. Yes, there is such a WoB in a transcript of a recent signing, but sending worldhoppers and a few pounds of solid Investiture to a planet may not count as being on Scadrial. The fact that Sazed refers to the "Trellium" spike as a "cursed" spike does suggest it is not a god metal but some magic system hack instead. Trell's organisation might not be coordinated by a Shard for all we know (which might reinforce the Skaze as Trell). The Set's intent to destroy Scadrial to prevent technological advancement could be (other than Kelsier being unaffiliated with the Set) his personality being overriden by a Shard, or Kelsier acquiring goals larger and more important than Scadrial. Looking back, I don't think it makes sense narratively for Kelsier to both be the Southern saviour and the destroyer of Scadrial in an interval so short in the cosmere timeline. I don't think any longer that Kelsier is a solid Trell candidate, but I'm still partial to the idea that he will be punching more Shards in the face if he hasn't already. As for Connection, we know that there are ways around that which are probably way within the reach of the thief crewleader. Compounding could be one of them.
  23. I'm not talking about the kandra, I'm talking about the creatures that can steal people's appearances with authority in the Set that appear at the end of BoM. There is no WoB that Trell is "principally Taldainish" but Trell does have minor connections to White Sand.
  24. My theory is that since Kelsier's as powerful as The Lord Ruler and more--if Kel exploited the effects of atium alloys (he might have had access to atium--connecting BoM's ending with the next book, The Lost Metal--since atium-owning Marsh passively supports "Kelsier's work"), I would not put it past Kel to take on a Vessel and swipe its Shard as the ultimate heist. Overambitious? Well, now that we know that sixteen people (powerful magic users, like Kelsier?) managed to kill Adonalsium, it's reasonable to say a single powerful magic user would be able to kill the holder of a sixteenth of Adonalsium's power. Considering how overpowered the Bands are, I doubt the original Vessels were much more powerful than Kelsier, or the Dragonsteel epic is going to have ridiculous fights. So the idea is that Kelsier learned about what's going on in the cosmere, while acquiring a physical form again (perhaps in a similar way the spren gain a physical form through the Nahel bond). Then, unimpeded by his lack of a physical body that inhibited his power when he held Preservation, he decided to steal one of the Shards we know. Not only would that ultimate heist be really attractive to Kelsier he might see a Shard as the perfect meddler's tool or weapon. (Though I think he would be surprised to find his identity being overridden by the Shard's Intent.) I say Shard we know, because of course if my theory is true... then it'd have to tie into the narrative by having Kelsier "be" Trell. If you're going to make Kelsier steal a Shard it'd be much easier to write about it in the series Kelsier came from. I like this idea because instead of making Trell a cosmere player unfamiliar to Mistborn abruptly throw into Scadrial's narrative, it makes Trell a familiar player with an unfamiliar but foreshadowed power (a Shard other than Ruin or Preservation or Harmony). Since WoB is that Trell is "of a Shard we know", I think if Kelsier stole a Shard, it might be Autonomy. Stealing Odium would require Kelsier of being involved in the Stormlight timeline which would be excessively cosmere-connected for Stormlight's narrative. Evidence against my theory would include that Bavadin seems alive and well as of the WoK letter. Also, the Set's "Faceless Immortals' " willingness to erase Scadrian civilisation for fear of uncontrollable technological advancement indicates that Trell is after all an external player not one for whom Scadrial is any special as a civilisation. This plan of destroying Scadrian civilisation if they cannot rule it is heavily reminiscent of the agenda of the Skaze/Jaddeth's empire in Elantris so Trellism might just be a Skaze-infuenced religion where Svrakiss turn out not to be Jaddeth's enemies after all. Trell could also be Odium, if Miles' death rattle was caused by Moelach... In which case things don't sound too hopeful for our Stormlight protagonists! Though Moelach/Odium could simply be cooperating with whoever Trell is. Trell might even be a two-Shard team...
  25. Never knew about the button too the left of fonts. Interesting. This is a test.
