  1. I believe, by the definitions we are given (and GHM quoted) that Awakening is firmly in the End-Neutral classification, exactly like Feruchemy. The why is because while there is no decay or permanent expense of Breath in its execution, there is also no gain in it. When you awake something, you "lock" those Breaths in the object, but you can retrieve them later and use them over and over. But, if you keep the breaths locked in an object, you can't use them during that period. There is no loss of Breath, but there is no gain either. If you don't hold those Breaths, you will not generate any more, like with Allomancy. It works like Feruchemy: you store your attribute, "locking" part of it in a metalmind for the storage period and then "retrieve" the attribute for the same coefficient. Same amount of energy goes, same amount of energy comes back. I could be convinced that it is in the End-Negative class, though. While the Breaths are "permanent" you do have to lose something in the Awakening process: color. Other than that, tough, I'm putting my money in End-Neutral.
  2. Writer-Frost Shard Radiation's Theory. Seems a scientific enough name, don't you think?
  3. Or maybe the presence of a Shard in a shardworld acts as a form of "spiritual radiation", mutating the sDNA of its inhabitants. It is kind of corroborated already by the fact that a magic system appears by the mere presence of a Shard in a shardworld.
  4. Agreed with both of you, 100%. Including the shoe with hot sauce part.
  5. Well, I didn't meant the time period or anything like that. By "WWII-like setting" what I really meant was that the world is at war, fighting against "nazis". Could totally be in a current-era type setting too. We only would have soldiers packing S.C.A.R. rifles instead of M-1 Garand rifles! And if someone decides to GM a PbF in this setting, please, don't forget to invite me! Hah, what is a military story without a small dose of conspirations and really dirt secrets hidden under the rug? Nuthin', I say! NUTHIN'!!!
  6. I don't know... Holding ONE shard probably change a person, but maybe it just take a lot of time. An maybe, holding preservation and ruin at the same time make them "pushing" in opposite directions enough that he just keep being himself. But I'm pretty sure about Sanderson saying that, that Sazed's personality wasn't affected by the shards, at least by the AoL era. It is in the most recent interview, if I remember correctly.
  7. Deus Ex Biotica, man, I just hope you are saving all ideas in a document in your PC. I'm going to ask for it when I start GMing in the AoL era.
  8. That makes me think: what if, to store investiture, you HAVE to have another power to store? And then you can give the metalmind to another person and he gains your power for the time you stored it? Then a purely Nicrosil Ferring would be a gnat-like ability, just like a Aluminum Misting. Or you could use it yourself and become a Twinborn of the metal you stored by that amount of time. Both seems like interesting possibilities.
  9. Wow wow wow wow wow! Hold on a second! Nazi-allomancers!? You just introduced something to my mind now: what if the second Mistborn trilogy is in a WWII type of setting? With THE SET becoming some sort of Nazi group, trying to hold power, coming out of the shadows after their army of Mistborns was bred and large enough for all-out war? And the serial-killer that will be the villain is one of their super-soldiers that went rogue? Holy. Crap. My mind just blew up with the sheer awesomeness of the possibility. I need to see that NOW!!! If that does not turn to be the plot for the book, I will totally GM this with the Mistborn RPG for my group! Also: extra awesome points for Captain Allomantica!
  10. Also, remember that Brandon Sanderson said that Sazed wasn't changed by the shards at all, but changed as a person. You know, like you or me would change if we became überpowerful, lived for hundreds of years and had all knowledge of the world laid down to us...
  11. Very awesome thought, guys. I'm loving the theories and informations. Keep it flowing! Very good point. I believe they are focused in figures of Survivorism rather than ideals, as Eric pointed. I think we can securely guess that one is for Kelsier and one is for Vin. The third, I would guess Mare, Kelsier's wife. Maybe the fourth one is for Marsh? Maybe not necessarily for worship, but to "appease" what they think is an sinister entity. That also would make an awesome pattern, like the "Holy Trinity" from Christianity: The Survivor, The Survivor's Wife, The Survivor's Apprentice and The Survivor's Brother.
  12. Huh. That is a VERY interesting finding, Windrunner. I will surely try to find something in there.
  13. I can't This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rulesING believe it... My disappointment is over 9000.
  14. Before I start, let me just say that I don't agree with the underlined part. The reason is in the spoiler tag below to not derail the thread. With that out of the will: THIS! I agree one hundred percent with the sentiment! Alloy of Law's setting just scream "adventure" to me. I, being an Iron Kingdoms's bitch, just can't resist the possibility of mixing allomancy and feruchemy with guns!
  15. Well, people are talking a lot about trellism in the other topic, so I thought I should start a thread about survivorism too. Truth be told, I liked to see that the old characters became revered figures of history and theology of Scadrial in Alloy of Law. Vin as the Ascendant Warrior and the Church of the Survivor made me all warm inside, hahaha. But I want to learn MOAR!!! Since I plan to GM in the Alloy of Law setting when the Mistborn RPG comes out and I know that at least one of my players will devour any bit of knowledge he can about this religion (as much as I want to), I am trying to collect everything we can. What we have: - Kelsier became the god-figure of this religion. The lord of the Mists, the Survivor and all that. What are the aspects of his worship? Guess he bless those who never surrender? Those who fight against oppression? Kind of a Freedom-based religion? EDIT: Something AWESOME just occurred me: Maybe the Pits of Hathsin became analogous to a type of hell, where people is sent by Ironeyes and The Survivor escaped that. - Vin is the Ascendant Warrior. Goddess of war? Hah! Awesome! - Breeze was referenced as the Counselor of the Gods, right? Cool as hell. Certainly fit his style. I guess he (as the rest of the crew) became sort of Saints for the church or something. What about the others? Ham is the Guardian of the Gods? What about Dox? Is Spook revered as anything more that the emperor of the new world? - Marsh, easy enough, became Ironeyes, a Death-like figure for the religion (not limited to Survivorism, though). As the brother of the Survivor himself, it is mythology BEGGING to be written, as someone already said! What is the aspects of his worship in Sliverism, though? Guess it is similar to the Lord Ruler religion. Anyone else remember more information? Has Brandon Sanderson said anything about it?
  16. Guys! Guys! Guys! Chill! I'm from the internet, I got this, don't worry! Kelsier: Liam Neeson - just think a minute about it. He may be a little old for the role, but I don't think it make him unsuitable. He have the right "father figure" type, can do REALLY well a badass type and I think he have enough experience as a deep character like Kelsier. He don't have the right looks as I imagined for Kelsier, but I think that is the most irrelevant point. Vin: Don't really know... I liked the suggestion of Natalie Portman, but I think she may be too old for the job. I think she have the dramatic qualities, though. Hamm: Vinn Diesel - the right body type for a Thug, and I think he have the right charisma for this type of character. Marsh: Michael Fassbender - really, the guy is awesome. I think this is the perfect choice. Plus, he would look kick-chull as an inquisitor. Breeze: Nathan Fillion - that's EXACTLY the role he dominates as. Perfect for him (and Breeze is one of my favorite characters, so... ). Clubs: Clint Eastwood - someone suggested it already and I couldn't take it of my head. Perfect. Elend: James McAvoy - alright. He is a good actor and I think he got what is needed to play Elend.
  17. +1 for CrazyRioter and Sir Read-a-Lot for referencing Monty Python! More on topic, I believe people are letting rules get in the way of understanding that Harmony is a GOD. Not only that, but a god that is twice as powerful as the gods that existed before. He not only have their powers, but could have even more because of the interaction of the two shards he is holding. EDIT: Typos.
  18. Well... That's how I create my RPG characters, if that counts for anything...
  19. A thought that occurred to me while reading this topic... Maybe the things Miles speak while he is dying have something to do with the things dying people speak in Way of Kings? Could this be a symptom of Odim proximity?
  20. Not necessarily. A gun shooting .22 rounds with a silencer make no bigger sound than of a book falling from a table. Not even that, really, depending of how good the silencer is. Of course, a .22 caliber round is nothing but trivial for a coinshot or lurcher to defend himself from, but a sniper can get a kill pretty easily with it, if the target is unaware.
  21. Ah, that! Thank you! But... Can this have any relation? Seem a little too far-fetched, but with Brandon Sanderson you never know...
  22. Huh. I just noticed something odd. Did we saw the name Nalt anywhere else? In another of Sanderson's books? It just seemed very familiar now...
  23. Isn't the villain of the second trilogy planned to be a Mistborn Serial-killer? *Tam-tam-TAAAAM!* I guess this must be part of the answer.
  24. This is a theory I like a LOT. And this is a theory I like even more. EXCEPT! The book seem to highlight his abilities a lot, like if it is trying to show us something... If it wasn't this, I would be on your boat, no doubt.
