If Maya revives, will she be the same?
Winds Alight replied to Invocation's topic in Stormlight Archive
I definitely hope Maya can become "whole" again as a spren and bond with Adolin. I'd say if she's revived, she'll definitely want to bond with Adolin. She seems to like him a lot, even now. May I just want it because I'd love to have Adolin skate through Urithiru and discovering his Radiant powers, but I'd say that's a valid thing to want, right? -
I think I like him. I can remember book 2+3 even less than 1, but I think I always liked him? Anyway, I'm rereading era 1 now and the few scenes he's had so far were okay. I have no memories of disliking him. Let's see what I say when I'm through.
-
A lot (I got myself spoilered real good concerning him while scrolling through Tumblr and the forums without taking care. Though that only makes me more excited for era 2 and SH)
-
I'm already almost halfway through TFE! Q uick question for when I'm through with era 1: I haven't read era 2 nor Secret History so far. With which should I start?
-
I take a "Jasnah's journey through Shadesmar during WoR" novella too, as well as her journey with Hoid.
-
Great idea! I'd love one about Galladon as well. That's the one I'd like most as well!
-
I'm not reading as fast as I want due to lack of time, booh. I remember that Vin was pretty nervous in the beginning, but not that she was that suspicious. But then again, Kelsier is crazy, so it's understandable.

Now that's a gang I wanna join. Down with Moash! (Like, literally. Let him run out of Stormlight in the middle of flight.)

Y'know, I'm not an analysis reader. I go with "does it feel good/bad/right? Yes? No? Done. I'm mostly too lazy to go through page after page to find evidence for something I don't need to convince myself, especially not in the futile attempt to make other people see things as I do. I've given up on that years ago, especially online. I don't see the point. I still try to determine where I let myself be dragged into this, because I'm not even a Shadolin person. I'm mostly a "romance didn't take up too much space and was (for now) resolved without unnecessary drama? I'm cool." I could have done without any romance at all honestly. That's the reason why I'm not exactly passionate about proving that Shallan and Adolin are the perfect match. I don't even think they are! But none of the quotes and analysis in this (and other) thread did convince me they're completely horrible for each other. So I hope they make it work, because otherwise, we'd have more love triangle blah blah and that would be something to really annoy me.

I've been back on this site for maybe three months total, with a gap of three and a half years in between. I also work a fulltime job and I don't have the time to read every thread about everyone ever created, sorry. I most likely wouldn't even have mentioned this if someone hadn't spoken of "glorification". Everything I've read about Adolin in the current threads can imo only be called "glorification" if you hate the guy very much for reasons that are beyond me.
-
@Pathfinder: If you look up the "who do you want most dead" thread, you will find three people. I think I remember some other instances where I read about that, but I'm not saving up every post I read online.

I am not going to quote the book to you. I think there is a zero chance of us ever getting on the same page here. I also dare to believe Kaladin at the end of OB when he says that he is not in love with Shallan. Some people believe Adolin to be in love, others (not as many I think from what I've seen) don't. Time will tell. I myself am convinced that he's in love now. Whether this relationship is going to last is a different story. I am not a believer in "the one true love".
-
I mean as "he loves her". And I guess we've been reading different books.
-
Well, I guess you could read this as "he doesn't love her". You could also do the opposite. I for example read it (and frankly, most of Adolin's interactions with Shallan) as "guy has a history of messing things up and now for the first time really wants things to work out so he's very insecure about himself and would never force anything on the girl".
-
WoR, battle at Narak. Dalinar is quite surprised to see that Palona is reading during the battle. (I don't have the book on me so I can't give the exact number.)
-
I think it's unfair to name Teft here. The guy has like ... one POV chapter in the book and then some lines during the climax. That's not much more than he had before (one short POV scene in each book). Additionally, his struggle was very believable and during his few POVs in OB, it was very understandable that his addiction was the main thing in his mind. Maybe no one in real life is that subtle/extreme, but, no one in real life has the ability to actually to create illusions. There was a pretty cool analysis of Shallan and other characters on Tumblr I saw a while about the way in-world magic affects mental health. So I think it's not that unrealistic that things got out of hand with Shallan when she started trying to Lightweave her trauma away.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

GrAnTeD bUt YoU oNlY gEt ThEm In tHiS fAsHiOn I want to know the title and cover for Stormlight 4 before everyone else. -
That was the funny part. Back when I first read WoR in 2015, Warbreaker had already been too long ago so I absolutely had no memory of Nightblood. It took the forums to make me realize and remember. Originally, I was just like "huh what's this sword?"
-
Adolin ... glorification? What? All I see is some pretty irrational "I hate him so much he has to die just because". While I do believe he's the better fit for Shallan than Kaladin (not the most perfect fit there is) when it comes to that doesn't mean I think Adolin is the best or is without flaws. As I said before: he's not even my favourite character. I'm just defending him because I don't get the raging hate some here display.

So, it's been almost nine years since I read MB for the first time ... and now, it's time for a reread. MB was among my favourite fantasy series from the very beginning and Kelsier was really keeping up with my favourite fantasy character of all time. Now I'm SO excited to return to this world! I forgot so much it's almost as if I've never read the books before, I actually recognize almost no single character except Vin, Kelsier and Dox. (Some didn't show up yet like Marsh and Sazed.) Also, I haven't read era 2 yet, which means I have SIX BOOKS (and Secret History) waiting for me to (re)discover. I wonder how long it's gonna take me to get through all these. Will I be done when eastern comes around? Or sooner? I read all three Stormlight books within three weeks lately, but that was an exception ... I'll try to read at least one book each ten days! Now let me just sit here a bit and scream how much I love Kelsier. K E L S I E R !

I guess some of these things are "lost in translation" to me. I hate reading German translations (so much gets lost!), but my English is not perfect to a point where I will pick up every flaw. So I either read weird dialogues in German, then I think "stupid translation", or I read an English text, someone says "weird dialogue" and I'm like "oh really? Didn't notice." Additionally, I'm not an overly critical reader. Book has cool characters? Book makes me cry and laugh? I like book.
-
Yes! I remember that one clearly. When I first read it back in 2011, I was reading part five reeeaaaaally late at night. I was ENRAGED about Sadeas' betrayal and then it just got crazier and exciting and I was sitting in bed, cheering them all on.
-
Thanks, that's really fascinating! Though I'd think many authors struggle with this ^^ Sanderson is one of those writers where I usually have multiple favourites in each book and I almost always understand everyone's motifs (to an extend).
-
W H A T That's the first time I ever heard about that and frankly, I don't see that. Like. At all. Do you know where he said that and in what context? I'm a little lost here. That's like the opposite of what I got from his books all these years.

I don't think I'd want Veil to take over and decide to be with Kaladin ... and I really don't think Kaladin would want that. Shallan's multiple personae is a manifestation of pretty serious mental health issues. The goal for Shallan is to become more stable and not rely on her aliases so much. Not the other way round ...
