That's a good thought, and indeed the existence of an eliminator alignment scan ought to be thought of as reasonable evidence for a third faction existing. I'd be surprised if that faction started as good, though. Given the power of trust circles in these games, reducing potential suspects, and making the end game difficult for eliminators, having a starting group of cleared good players would be a significant imbalance towards the village. @Alvron, @Steeldancer, @Jondesu, @asterion137, @King Cole, @Drake Marshall, @BrightnessRadiant, you've all clearly been online since the game has started. Any thoughts on the ruleset, or indeed, on anything else? Although it is D1, we do need as useful discussion as we can produce, which requires players getting involved.

Whilst I agree with Randuir that the revealed roles do not appear terribly different, I do think it worth speculating on secret roles, and secret rules. Whilst the following is but speculation, given the knowledge that we have secret rules, and the setting within which the game is set, I don't think them impossible, and they bear consideration. My first thought concerns the Steward. In LotR, the Steward of Gondor is in possession of the Palantir, which allows great insight and a view over that which the enemy does, but involves a contest of will with the Enemy. Whilst already used in the ruleset as a role scanner, I would speculate about it potentially possessing a limited doc viewing ability, with a chance of the Steward's will failing. If this were the case, it would advantage the village through encouraging limited communication amongst the eliminators, but would ensure that we cannot trust the cleared good role, which seems to be more balanced, for me. As it stands, there is little preventing the Steward declaring themselves, having predicted a the role of an individual to be lynched, and so proving their alignment and obtaining village protection. Mechanically, this could be summarised as an expectation of a doc-spying mechanic, and a weakening of the cleared nature of the Steward. A second, and yet more speculative thought concerns a potential third faction - Isengard. Whilst clearly less likely, it bears considering that there may be a conversion mechanic in the vein of Padan Fain of LG6 and LG22. The implications of this potential are that we should be wary of maintaining a view that players are cleared throughout the game, but also that the eliminators need to worry about trusting their own members. Given we have little else to discuss, I'd invite thoughts on my own speculation, and would encourage everyone else to speculate. Thoughts on the game, consistency in opinion, and evolution in opinion are our tools for getting reads on players. The more frequently they're provided, the more we have to look at, and the easier it is to narrow down the potential eliminators.

Complications, which, given signups were delayed as is, led us to conclude that Wyrm was better placed to run LG39.

Good friends, such prejudice is entirely rash, and without justification. I come here bearing great gifts, and seek but to further our common goals. Let us walk forward together into the light, and not cast unjustifiable and cruel aspersions against one another. Can we not agree to overlook such unfortunate coincidences such as but a name, and instead focus on that which we might create together?

Given I ended up doing a lot of the manual work in LG18, I cannot tell you how much of a difference the automation made. Wilson and I had a number of rollovers that took both of us working together more than four hours, whereas El and Lopen's rollovers were closer to two hours. That said, I don't think that necessarily means that LG18 was any more complicated, indicating just that past experience and time invested beforehand make a world of difference.

Personally, I'm not a fan of either of the rule submissions this turn. I think that turn 7 is too early to end the game, if we decide to do so via intervention, and think that something like turn 10 would be more reasonable. I'm also of the view that problems we have with the game can be resolved via the normal vote process, as indeed was demonstrated by the resolution to the bunny issue, and that there's no need to hold such a moot. I further think that said moot is open to manipulation by the factions, and may well be used in a self-interested manner, rather than one focused on improving the fun of the game.- 713 replies

Players should not use information from their GM PM in such a manner as to give GM confirmed information to the thread. I'm of the view that the spirit of this rule extends to including wording that could not otherwise be known in a slightly paraphrased manner, even when not a direct copy paste. -

I very much don't like the rule suggestion, Randuir. I signed up to play this game, not Elenion/Drake's game, and not a previously run long game. I think this game is very fixable, if we're sensible about removing problematic parts, and if we're selective about adding new rules. I would support a moot being held to vote on each individual rule, but think it easily abuseable. If so inclined, we could use it to get rid of the factions, which, whilst useful to our win conditions, is detrimental to the fun in the game.- 713 replies

As an Englishman, I've never heard it pronounced "Lane-kiss-ter". The pronunciation Wilson provided "Lan-cas-te(r)" is that which is used.

I'm slightly concerned about the wording of the family win condition rule. It could be interpreted as members of families being exempt from all kill win conditions, rather than merely those of their own family, in its current state.- 713 replies

Having thought about it, I propose that each turn, players may submit a proposal to the GM in their PM, who reveals the list of proposals in the next writeup. Players then have one anonymous vote for a rule from the list, submitted in their PM (in addition to another proposal), and the three rules with the most votes are selected, revealed, and implemented in the following writeup, alongside the new set of proposed rules.- 713 replies

Predominately because you'd just survived the last game you played, and so would not be suffering from a string of early deaths, and because your death would reveal very little to the Court, thereby limiting the information from which anyone could conclude any of us were evil.

I'll disagree with this in a number of places, Aonar. First on the Whitelegs/Wandering eye interaction. We could only be suspicious of Drought insofar as we had information. For it to be a fair mechanic - or for us to have reasonable suspicion of Drought, we'd have to know how his win con worked, which required El or Drought telling us. What we were told, was that El merely had to keep Drought alive, not that they shared a win condition. That implied a one way interaction, to me. Now, clearly that was incorrect, but illustrates that our ability to act in a way that gave us a fighting chance was limited to the information given to us by those with incentive to oppose us. If Drought and El had been playing in a more competitive manner, El wouldn't have revealed, and we'd have had absolutely no reason to suspect interaction at all. Similarly, I disagree on it being fair to both sides - the village are more likely to lynch a non-village player than the eliminators are to attribute kills to something other than a vigilante, and particularly to hit back, within their own ranks, accurately. If it had got down to the end game, we'd have no realistic chance of winning against a turncoat serial killer, whereas the village wouldn't be materially adversely affected. On PM spying, we had absolutely no way of knowing that it was that low a chance, and so took precautions commensurate with it being a realistic chance. Without knowledge of the numbers, it would be foolhardy to assume that we were safe, and so better to limit communication. With perfect knowledge, once again, it would have been less of a handicap. Overall, though, the game was great fun, and I particularly enjoyed the interaction between the competing eliminator teams. Thanks to everyone who played, and particularly to Aonar and Joe for running it.

How terribly amusing, Headshot. You mean to suggest that I'm manipulating her, rather than the person suggesting she doesn't think for herself, and instead votes in line with the side who have announced themselves as the Court infiltrators in the Forest? @The_Lady_of_Chaos, @polkinghornbd, as it stands, Headshot, Cloud, Araris, Budgie, Burnt, and Dalinar are members of the Court. The two of you, myself, Elbereth, Flash, Shqueeves, and DA are Foresters. If the two of you vote on Araris, he's lynched, and the Forest wins.

@The_Lady_of_Chaos, it certainly does help you, and I would think that taking Araris' word that you shouldn't vote for him is somewhat obviously a poor decision. @The_Lady_of_Chaos, @polkinghornbd, it would be really useful if the two of you would vote on Araris.
