You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Testimonial: I was driving along, and saw a hotel sign which said: Cool breeze misting fans. Of course, I thought there was a Sanderfan convention I was unaware of, celebrating Breeze and other mistings....I was wrong. -

The door opens, and a green-eyed youth strolls in. "Books before friends. 17th Shard before the real world. Release dates before birthdays. I will make fun of the unmakefunable. May I enlist in the orders of Awkwardness to better pursue the refining waters of annoyance?"

Historical Figures Misplaced in the Cosmere
Kairos replied to Dankworth's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Frederick Douglass would be a Rioter, Lincoln a Soother. Not much more to add to that. Not the best at historical figures from that time. Oh, but Napoleon was a Edgedancer. And Andrew Jackson was a Thug.- 7 replies

Definitely interested. Please start this madness. I can already see some more. Time to go reread history to look for Sanderson. -
Experiences in sharing Sanderson novels
Kairos replied to Kestrel's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Well, I started out by hooking a mutual WoT fan on Mistborn(he then devoured the Cosmere, and blamed me for sleep deprivation). I then recommended Alcatraz to another couple of friends, who both read and loved it. One moved on to Cosmere, the other spread Alcatraz to her family(who moved on to Mistborn). I insisted the friend who recommend WoT to me(and thus the one initially responsible for hooking me onto Sanderson) read Mistborn. She did, and is currently in WoA. She spread it to another mutual friend, who has now finished Mistborn. I also got my sister into Reckoners, as well as sundry other people. Actually, I think everyone I listed read Reckoners second. So, yeah. I doubled the population of Sanderfans in my town. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I think Stonewall Jackson has a better claim to the Stoneward. Come to think of it, that seems eerily close. Maybe he was secretly a Radiant, and it was his squires who accidentally shot him. -
Duel to the Death: Vin and Shallan vs. Kaladin and Wayne
Kairos replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's true, they do have regen. I don't think it will keep them safe from the Ascendant Warrior, though. I mean, she can use all of the metals, pretty much. Soothe/Riot Kaladin, Push/Pull any of his metal items, use her Thug abilities.... -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
@kingofnowhere That would be true, if I were the teacher. As it stands, I am but a student. And yes, the other students started groaning at the other Sanderfan and me. -
"You!" Wit smirked, clearly pleased with himself. "Beat you to it that time."

Duel to the Death: Vin and Shallan vs. Kaladin and Wayne
Kairos replied to Turos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Shallan will die immediately. Vin will have an aerial battle with Kaladin, finish him off with a well-aimed coinshot(probably), and then easily mop up Wayne. Kaladin may be a competent fighter, but he has no experience against enemies practiced at fighting with magic. Vin does. The real issue is whether a reverse lashing would effect Steel-propelled coins. -

I think it would do the same as an Lerasium Savant. Which is as per this quote: INTERVIEW: Sep, 2012 Cosmere Q&A - 17th Shard (Verbatim) DOUGLASWhat about a Lerasium savant? Or would that require so much Lerasium that the person attempting it would ascend to become a new Shardholder? BRANDON SANDERSONBasically, this is what ascension is.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you can't help bringing up the Final Empire in Theology class. And Ancient History class. And Ancient Literature class. And then comparing Lightsong to the Greek gods. Also in Theology class, breaking up Christian Theological theories into the three realms. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you spend 7 weeks in Trigonometry class arguing about the properties of geometric shapes, and keep thinking how rubbish a Rithmatist you'd make, due to increasingly poor diagrams. -
You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Kairos replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When you get ecstatic about drawing the setup of a room on a whiteboard, and start calling it the catechism of the seventh floor tile, volume the second. True story. Fortunately, there's another Sanderfan in the class, and he totally got it. -
Personally, I like to see small references, little hints at what might have been, rather than full-fledged crossovers. As to what I wish to see, here's a list. An emerald signet ring, with a carving of a leaping dolphin. Probably in the Final Empire. A carved footboard resembling mountains. A peculiar earring. An unornamented gold ring. A sword glinting strangely blue in the sunlight. An odd sort of amulet A plain warrior's sword with a ruby in the pommel. A ruby hilted dagger A hammer emblazoned with a leaping wolf. A green ring, next to a yellow one.

Definitely not suggesting Nightblood caused the Shattering. I know the timeline better than that. The original theory was that we could use the way Nightblood acts, in conjunction with his command, to determine that Investiture was evil. However, that has been debunk by a WoB. natc, I'm not sure what you mean there. It was a bit of an off the wall theory to begin with. It was a result of me thinking too much about Nightblood.

Go for The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. Clean, funny, deep, and the most brilliant writing ever. It's first person and YA(technically), but it is unimaginably ingenious. Low on magic, but has great plot twists. It is a must read. Don't look up other books by her yet, though. Descriptions, covers, or anything can be spoilers.
-
Well, I guess that quote debunks this theory. Oh, well. Back to the drawing board. Although, it is quite interesting that Naln and Szeth can both handle Nightblood without stabbing themselves. I wonder if Odium could? Someone should ask Sanderson if the amount of Investiture in a being helps them control Nightblood. I still think Adonalsium could be evil.

You know, Tolkien would be pretty good at it. Apparently, he used to run around in Anglo-Saxon war garb and freak people out.
