Lightwrought awoke, feeling the comfortable presence of Winterspell beside her. Light entered through the windows, reflecting and refracting through the white-blue walls of Icesteel Keep and providing a beautiful first view for the day. Climbing out of bed, she yawned and slowly made her way to the window. They had overslept; she had planned to be up at dawn to make a brilliant show out of the sunrise, but with everything that had happened last night they had just been too tired. "No matter", She thought to herself, as she looked out the window and leaned on the windowsill. "I'll just do it now." In her mind she planned out her show. A flash of blue here, a sparkle of yellow and green there... yes, this would do nicely. Raising her arms above her head like a an orchestra conductor, Lightwrought painted the sky. All of Astoria could bear witness to her glory as she made light dance across the sky, in all manner of colours, sizes and hues. When she was done, she added a final flourish and set the sky as a beautiful, surreal flow of colour. Lightwrought lent back and admired her work, smiling slightly at the beauty of it. "That was amazing as always, my dear." Winterspell said. Turning, Lightwrought saw him behind her, clad in his icy regalia. Lightwrought's smile widened, and she embraced her love. "I didn't want to wake you, you were so tired from yesterday..." "I would never miss a display of your power, not for all the sleep in the world." Still hugging, they moved to another window and looked out across the bay, towards Long Beach and Dragoon. "So your mercenary arrived, then?" Lightwrought asked. "Indeed, sometime last night. I'll send a representative soon so that whatever Blackwave plans will be coordinated with our own forces." Lightwrought looked up at him. "Are you sure that we are strong enough? We are strong, but defeating Mary? Or the Metal? You might be a High Epic but I-" "Shh shh shh..." Winterspell silenced his wife with a finger to her mouth. "It will all work out splendidly, my dear. If Lucentia could defeat them and control Astoria, so can I. Remember, we have our secret weapon. And they will suspect nothing until it is to late." Lightwrought frowned. But she kept her silence. She had gone with Winterspell this far, she would follow him further. They would follow each other to the ends of the earth.

I shall do so then! Contention A: Calamity is visible through telescope without supernatural intervention Point 1A: Regalia clearly stated that he is visible in a telescope, and that her and others viewed him. Point 2A: in context, she has no reason to lie about being able to see him. Point 3A: calamity is less bright thsn the sun and much closer, and given that even normal telescopes can make out high details on the sun, it is logical that any amateur astronomer who looked could see him. Conclusion A: Calamity could have been seen in that year before Epics rose, and could be seen even after. Contention B: Calamity cloaked or hid himself in some fashion from mundane observers, and may still be doing so. Point 1B: given that Contention A is likely true, and that there is no apparent reason for people not to have looked, Calamity's nature as a winged humanoid would have been easy to ascertain. Almost certainly it would have been discovered. Point 2B: There is little evidence that Calamity's nature was known or wide-spread. If, pre-Collapse, any amateur astronomer could plaster his pictures all over the net, most who remembers that year should know about it. Point 3B: David didn't know about Calamity's nature, despite being an avid researcher of Epics and related facts. Conclusion B: Calamity's nature was not well-known. Conclusion AB: Calamity hid himself from the general public in some fashion, and may still be hiding himself.

I still think she should heroically sacrifice herself by blowing up Nighthound EDIT: also can she detonate the stuff she exudes mentally? and didn't she already start coating some in the mechanisms of the museum?

hmm that is a good point. His weakness isn't "people who love him", it is "being hurt by people who love him", thus being two conditions. Maybe it should just be changed to "people who love him", so if he is in the proximity of people who love him he has no powers.

I wonder what happens if an Epic manifests powers in the presence of their weakness. Or if a Rending is cut short if the weakness is encountered. Like if Nightwielder had of manifested in sunlight. I sort of think that Calamity would intentionally avoid that (assuming he has enough knowledge to do so), though. EDIT: the three Powerpuff Queens when they confront Iconoclast about all his mischief

I don't think a team like that would be necessary. Any Epics that do go rogue or too destructive could be taken care of by whatever government Epics are available and suited to the job. It wouldn't happen often enough to warrant a dedicated team, especially when each Epic needs a different response to counter their powers.but if Blaze and Coma are fine he could always be assigned with some guards to go looking for Icon anyway? Once Buttercup makes her report it will be clear that an Epic is doing this. well she might be able to break the restraints, but I'm not sure. They'd be tough and resistent to that sort of thing. And even if you do, you are still stuck in a dome of ice and steel, in freezing weather with no energy source.i think rescue by phoenix or Insight are your best options.

I'm not quite sure what my allies are waiting for. Mail-mi has control over Dragoon, Joe over Blackwave and Mailliw over the Destructors, and I'm just waiting for them to begin negotiations with each other and such. Not sure specifically who is next though or anything. I'd make a Winterspell post or something but at the moment there isn't anything for him to do but wait.

yeah "move" is a bit vague ok, so he is basically a super-martial artist? do the moves he sees have the same effects for him? so like, say you watch Bruce Lee do some sweet one-inch punch and send a guy flying. Sure you can replicate his technique and the "move" perfectly, but without his strength it won't have as much of an effect. Is he strong along with this memory power, to make his moves effective? If he sees a "fake" move in a movie, does it still count? Like a move that would be physically impractical or pointless and only had an effect because its in a movie? well really they've been going on since the Collapse, but only sporadically. They are just heating up a lot now. For instance the Epic he references, Sparkwire, is established in the RP canon from like the first post.

interesting, he has the same weakness as Euphoria. I don't have any issues with that, personally. Obviously it is Comatose' choice though, and he is away for a bit. @Winter: do you have anyone in Astoria? Astoria has gotten a bit lonely lately

That sounds pretty cool I'm a bit uncertain at this stage though. I sort of want Iconoclast to be in the background a bit more before interacting with the other PCs. I'm like 100% on him brawling with you guys at some point, but later on I think.

It was a tough decision to me, but I chose Firefight. To be honest, the main reason was that there felt like more action, and certainly a lot more Epic powers being thrown around in Firefight than in Steelheart. It appealed to me more. And I liked the characters better as well- everyone from the villains to the supporting heroes were much more fleshed out than in Steelheart. I know nothing about Nightwielder's personality, or Stelelheart's, really. This didn't make them bad villains, and it made sense in the context of the book, but I still prefer fleshed-out and complex villains.

Prime Invincibility and Steelheart [Firefight spoilers]
Blackhoof replied to Quiver's topic in The Reckoners
It feels wrong that Brandon would give some Epics a complete inability to avoid the corruption. If passive powers don't count unless activated, every Epic has the choice and the chance (no matter how unlikely or small) to face their fear or stave off the corruption through force of will. Calamity might not play fair, but I feel like Brandon would.
