All I'm saying is that if you took a Ryshadium and drove a hemalurgic spike through its head, and if that hemalurgic spike happened to be then you would have a pretty deific being on your hands, land of disgusting crab things with seventeen legs aside. I'd be really curious as to what would happen in that case. Anydangway, you're right that the people of Roshar may struggle to accept that as easily as a weather-god they hide from weekly-or-so but Ryshadium are native to Roshar (or are they?) or at least accepted where they're known of. So I contend it's not such a stretch. As far as Survivorism goes, is it confirmed then that It doesn't... well... alas, poor Tanavast. We never knew him, Hoid. So we can't say if his "true personality" melded with the spren of the Stormfather or not. That's an interesting thought though. Like a man slipping into a fancy mech suit fashioned after him, you would gain no little access to investiture and great power. Maybe all this is bubkis. When the Stormfather nixed Dalinar of his shards, was it because such a shard would rob the planet of its life-giving light? It sounds more like he accompanies the storms instead of being them himself. So maybe he said no because he feels bound to watch over mankind from the skies. What if the three spren are those of the Earth, Sky, and Sea? Sigh. Perhaps unlikely, due to no obvious sources of investiture from the same. Well. The Nightwatcher might could be Earth. Maybe water worm guy IS the third, though I'd previously rejected such a notion. Meh. /rant

Doesn't the Stormfather talk about how he's the idea of Honor, of the Almighty, that everyone still holds to? If you went around preaching a new religion that worshipped unicorns and got enough people to convert and believe in the Omnicorn, would they create a spren in the cognitive realm that embodied their ideas of what the Omnicorn was? Would that spren somehow eventually become a possible bondsmith candidate? We know certain religions revere Cultivation right? Others, Honor. I wonder if some other "godspren" would exist by mixing that strong cognitive identity with investiture.

Szeth comment from Brandon at DragonCon Q&A
Garglemesh replied to Sarevok's topic in Stormlight Archive
Can we talk about this for a minute? How does Szeth know the implications of Kaladin healing himself? Is it something only Szeth knows because he was instructed by the Shaman, or is it common knowledge among the Shin? When you consider another Rosharan with uncommon knowledge of Desolations, Mr. T, knows enough of the Shin to speak their language and quote their idioms, I'd say the Shin know a lot more than they let on. I wonder how reclusive they are with their knowledge. Is Taravangian really the first to try to learn more about the Shin? Taravangian claimed it was the Honorblade granting the Regrowth surge, not implying that Honorblades heal shardplate wounds. Edit: He flees when he sees him heal. Kaladin performs no lashing during their course of their encounter because he doesn't really know any yet, other than sticking rocks together. -
A connection to Taravangian?
Garglemesh replied to The One Who Connects's topic in Stormlight Archive
Good eye, Brian. That's really curious. Were the major cities related to a specific Knight? It sounded, from an epigraph, that there was always a Bondsmith at Uruthiru, which was sort of the city that bound everyone together, right? If there are, I wonder at the significance. -
Not sure if it's uncouth to exhume a dead thread, so let me know if if this is a technical foul or not. Syl refers to Odium's presence or gaze or yada yada, due to Szeth's imminent arrival. We know Szeth was there under orders of Mr. T, and he sent Szeth because of the Diagram which came about because of a boon/curse from the Nightwatcher, which is presumably linked to Cultivation. So Odium was highly interested in whether or not Szeth was successful, but perhaps wasn't involved directly. I wonder why. How would Dalinar's death have prevented Odium's turning the Listeners to Stormform? Or was it something else, something longer-term than that? Dalinar has a special connection to Honor through the Stormfather. I think something bigger happened here that we don't understand yet. I can't imagine it was just to give Kaladin the heads up on the assassination attempt.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was said somewhere (maybe just the Coppermind?) that some spren are more adept at hiding themselves from others. Like Yata said, Shallan never noticed Syl. But then, why didn't Pattern? Is it because Syl never noticed Pattern until the fight, and revealed herself to him? Or has Syl been avoiding Kaladin when he happens to be around Shallan? That seems unlikely, though I'd have to go back and read with that mindset to confirm or not. I'll bet Syl just never noticed him. Not until the fight, where Shallan had him making a distraction and that caught Syl's attention, which probably made her really curious and she got too close and Pattern saw HER. Speculations abound. I... I don't know why everyone doubts Renarin. He freezes and grimaces when forced to touch a Blade, he sees the future. Something different is certainly up. I guess it's because Dalinar had to go and "Oh that's why..." on us, which always makes me nervous because it could be that unreliable narrator trying to lead us down some fake path. Maybe it was just a way of Brandon saying, "Dalinar isn't going to believe what Renarin says just because it's an Oprah KR giveaway". Dunno. I say we take him at his word. Unless he's the greatest actor in Roshar ever and he's playing us like Wit's abandoned flute. That could be a thing I s'pose.

I hate to be the pessimist, but in reading some WoB today he mentioned how he doesn't like love triangles but does like conflict in romance (like maybe some certain event at the end of the book). So it sounds like Shalladin isn't looking too great, which is too bad because I think they could be cute together. Whatever. I'm sure whoever she ends up with, she'll be cute with. Unless it's Szeth. Or Gaz or something.

Yeah, and Jezrien and Shalash are like daddy/daughter, right? I wonder if all the pairs are connected. I'd bet Ishar and Paliah are siblings, but look at that hair disparity. Maybe they're married.

Oh my heck it's all boys on the top and girls on the bottom how did I never notice. With Stormfather creating a Bondsmith and being the spren of Honor, I'm convinced it's a scale from Honor to Cultivation now. Sorry if I'm slow here. Just... makin' connections.

Hey guys! I'm new, and yada yada yada, and I was going to be there like shareware but then I got really sick today and it's not going to happen. So my friend and I will be there next time.

Hey everyone! I've been snooping around for a while and have even got to the point that I'm helplessly obsessed with the Stormlight Archives and have started pages of questions for Brandon. Anyway. I just want to say something about Taln and the like. Do I need spoiler stuff at this point? When rereading I-7, it seems fairly extremely obvious that Taln is Taln. I guess no one is disputing that this guy has gone through some major torture and has lost it a bit. It just might be a different person than Taln, right? I know what Brandon said, but I mean come on! How can't it be? "'I am Talenel'Elin, Herald of War.' Voice. He spoke it. He didn't think it. The words came, like they always came." So the words came as they always came. Sounds like a guy who is used to saying he's Talenel'Elin, Herald of War. Could it be that maybe he's just not himself right now? Is that what Brandon meant? No. That doesn't fit either. Why would he give that away though if it's a big reveal later on? Am I to assume that it's some other guy, like a herald like Kalak, who then memorized that line and repeated it a zillion times during years of torture? And then perhaps referenced himself? Meh. Dunno 'bout that. So if someone did take his place, I'm to assume Taln then decided to, with his new-found freedom, go run off somewhere far away and not tell anyone or prepare anyone? So that doesn't make sense to me. I don't know. What I do know is this: This guy has been through torture. This guy is late. This guy claims to be Taln. The only thing I don't understand is the line, "The Gift and words. Not his. Never his. Now his." That does sound like someone who is being someone or thing they're not normally. Anyway. Just a little rant. I'm sorta really good at those. Glad to be here though and hope to be able to contribute some day maybe. So here's some over-thinking: When Wit hits himself on the head a few times to have "an objective frame of reference by which to judge the experience of your company." Bordin assumes Wit is making fun of him. What if Wit was instead referring to "Taln", who would be Bordin's company ("We're having company over tonight") and not Bordin's company ("He makes terrible company")? It doesn't actually mean anything unless it gives us insight as to who the heck this guy is. What ever. I'm really done now. P.S. Can someone explain some of formatting here? For example, how do I make quotes appear in fancy boxes? How do I make spoiler boxes? How do I make a good hummus? Basic stuff like that. Unless there's a place that explains that. Then I apologize and will look a little more carefully. Also, does one's two cents refer to the value of their comments? Or the amount of their comments? Because those are different.
