  1. Well that seems to be kind of a tradition in Poland to pretend that the president is above the divisions in parliament and that he is neutral. Currently, despite his resignation from membership in Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, he is fully supporting this party and is doing what he can to make trouble for the ruling party. Parliament elections are in a couple of weeks, so he's currently one of main parts of opposition campaign. Maybe that's why he criticizes Poland and polish government whenever he can.
  2. Yeah, no problem with that, but we have to figure out a way of communication Couriers Lenses didn't work on very long distances and I don't remember what other kind of long-distance communication Free Kingdomers had.
  3. For a few weeks now we have a new president in Poland. And he simply is the worst. How do you think, when the president of your country visits another country and talks about his nation, what should he be saying? Something positive, right? Something that promotes his country abroad and makes you look cool and fun and worth to do business with. Well, that's what every normal president would do, but not Andrzej Duda... Two examples from last week I think: Andrzej Duda visiting Germany. During a conversation with Joachim Gauck (German president) Duda called Poland an unjust country. Yeah, you read that right. Newly elected president of Poland is calling Poland unjust while Gauck was complementing us on our growing industry. Cool. Andrzej Duda visiting UK. While addressing Polish emigrants working and living in UK, he said "I won't ask any of you to go back." Oh for god's sake, Polish president is practically telling Polish people to stay away from Poland!!! He's been the president for merely over a month so far... 4 years and 11 months to go...
  4. And here we are - The Smedry Way - the first post is up! I'll introduce my other characters in a couple of days.
  5. So, first, some rules: The discussion thread, where we'll be planning and talking about what's going on is here: THE DISCUSSION THREAD Now, a little bit of the setting: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tenteron Smedry missed his flight. Again. He was stuck on Warsaw airport, after a series of unfortunate events, including jumping on crocodiles, taking part in some cosplay contest and running away from Librarians. What a day. For the last couple of hours he was trying to get on board of one of those crazy, primitive flying machines, that Hushlanders use to travel. Unfortunately, this is not an easy task, when your Talent is to miss things. The fact, that he was on enemy territory didn’t help either. He stood on the hallway, watching as the plane he was supposed to be on was taking off. Wearing a simple jacket and jeans, he didn’t stood out from the crowd at all. That was only because he had lost his tuxedo and top hat a few days ago in an emergency situation on one of the hushlanders swimming pools. He had to steal some clothes from somebody’s else locker. He focused on his reflection in the window. Thirty years old, with dark hair, blue eyes, covered by red tinted glasses. Cleanly shaven. From what he knew, he was considered handsome by Free Kingdom and Hushland standards. Too bad he seemed to miss all the nice ladies for all those years. Suddenly, a flash of light exploded somewhere outside the window. It was so bright, he couldn’t even tell the direction from where this light was coming. Tenteron involuntarily fell to the ground. When wearing Oculator’s Lenses, a sudden flash of light usually meant you were in big trouble, attacked by another Oculator. However windows next to him didn’t shatter, ground didn’t tremble nor did the air turn ice cold. Only a potted plant next to him fell over, but that was rather his fault than an enemy’s attack. So what was this light? It disappeared as his glasses fell of his face, so it wasn’t any normal light. Tenteron tood up and stabbed himself in the eye with a temple of his Oculator’s Glasses, missing his face, when he tried to put the glasses back on. Just as he was wincing in pain, a security officer came from around the corner. “Proszę pana, będzie musiał pan udać się ze mną…” The guard didn’t have a chance to finish his sentence, as Smedry started to run away from him. They were in the duty free zone, past the security checks of the airport. Tenteron rushed to the exit. By now, all the security guards were on alert and moving in his direction. Unless he’ll do something brilliant… He took out his Slider’s Lenses, tinted pink with transparent dots. Attica Smedry created them many years ago, however he didn’t like them and didn’t share information about the sands used to smelt them with anyone, there were only four pairs in the entire world. Tenteron put them on and looked on the ground before him. The floor began to glimmer as if it was wet or made of ice. Everyone around him started to lose their balance as the ground became extremely slippery. Tenteron slid on his knees between two guards trying to grab him and kicked one of them in his behind to gaining momentum needed to move forward the exit. He was right on his way to the door outside, when a dark figure in a suit, wearing a pair of glasses appeared in front of him. Tenteron didn’t have any time to react as a line of fire cut through the air right next to him, scorching the floor and setting a little kiosk on fire. He focused on his Talent, making sure to miss the next attack of the enemy Oculator, while he slid in his direction. He crashed into Librarian’s legs just his opponent activated the Firebringer’s Lenses for the second time. A short burst of flame launched into the hallway as the glasses fell of the Librarian’s face when he fell down. The flames hit one of the big TVs displaying departure schedule which fell down to the floor. Tenteron stood up, took off his glasses and looked at the mayhem he left behind. The floor was still slippery as a perfect rink, everyone was on the ground trying to stand up, it would be a hilarious view if not for the damage done by the fire. Fortunately it seemed that nobody got seriously hurt. Tenteron took the Firebringer’s Lenses from the ground. The enemy Oculator laid there unconscious. People from the parking lot begun to gather near the exit as Tenteron pushed through them to get away from the airport. He put his Oculator’s Lenses back on and looked behind him in the general direction from which that explosion of light came from. He could see little bright point, as if there was a star far away, shining through all the buildings. It was visible, even as he waved his hand before his eyes. Dark Oculators can surely see it too. Other Librarian orders will know about this anomaly soon as well. Investigating it would be most dangerous and risky. Tenteron thought, as he walked away from the chaos he caused at the airport. I should probably get back to Free Kingdoms and return with some backup before approaching… But what would Grandpa Smedry do? He would get to the anomaly as fast as possible, without any regard for the dangers… Because that’s the Smedry way! Tenteron entered one of the shops for tourists that were frequent in the vicinity of the airport. With a compass and a good map he would be able to pinpoint the location of the anomaly, if it was anywhere in Europe. Then he’ll just have to find a way to get there...
  6. I got a parking ticket for parking too close to an intersection... On a pavement, my car wasn't event touching the asphalt, nor was it blocking any view for other drivers :<
  7. Hey everyone, sorry to keep you waiting. A lot has come up and I had trouble finding some time to write. I'm currently halfway done with the opening post and I promise it'll be ready tomorrow So get ready to introduce your characters
  8. If that was the case, then Szeth wouldn't be able to summon his blade, he would have to carry it around like normal steel sword.
  9. Division Surge == Breaking Talent (from Alcatraz)
  10. Going back to the new Pluto photos. Is it just me, or does this part of Pluto looks a bit like Shattered Plains?
  11. So, to sum things up again, before we start writing. Here's the setup: Now, for some rules: What do you think?
  12. So, for now, I've counted 4 people interested in having a Smedry character (me, Honor Spren, WayneSpren and Surgebound Rainspren) and for now, we have 2 librarian characters planned (Winter Cloud and me). I guess, that Winter is right, 10 Smedries would be too many. However, for now, we have an acceptable number of them I guess with place for maybe one more. We definitely have place for more Librarians Ok, I guess I'll get back to work, so I'll be able to post proposed rules by the end of the day.
  13. From what I remember, you have problems with physics. Why don't you ask here, on 17th Shard for some help? I bet there are people willing to help, that have knowledge about what you're troubles with. I think even I could help, despite the language barrier Go ahead and make a topic "Help Lark with Physics" or something like that and maybe that will help.
  14. Well, I'm impressed that my question about the Pledge started such a discussion... I obviously don't really have a stance on it. All I can say is that in Poland, patriotism is a big thing, although there seems to be a division into two kinds of people that call themselves patriots. This division I think is present in other European countries as well, as we have a wave of nationalism spreading around the continent. Polish patriots version 1: People that believe that their country is the best and are very much against mixing cultures or accepting immigrants. They believe, that the European Union is there to destroy Poland, and they want to "protect" us from it's devious influence. This kind of people are always very conservative and I'd say too religious. Some even want to nominate Mary (mother of Jesus) as queen of Poland If we had something like the Pledge in Poland, this kind of people would probably scream it in top of their lungs. Those kind of patriots currently believe that our country is ruled by people whose main objective is to destroy Poland Polish patriots version 2: I'd say that's the left-winged kind. More open to other cultures and nations. Support european integration, while preserving out cultural heritage. Support their country by paying taxes, taking care of their surroundings and obeying the laws etc. Unfortunately, this group is smaller than the former one or at least the first group is much more visible and louder. I really hope that the nationalist kind of patriots won't start winning elections across Europe, they really scare me... Re: homeschooling This thing is foreign to me too. Here in Poland, public/institutional schooling is mandatory. Only kids with severe psychological disorders or serious health issues are allowed to be schooled in their homes. I'm not sure what to think about it. I guess I'm happy that we don't have homeschooling, as I think to many parents would totally neglect their children education in some fields. Like, both parents were poor at math, so the kid will only know the very basics, even if he/she has a knack for it. Re: Introverts/Extraverts I'm an introvert or an amivert myself. I have no problem with social interactions, but if I go for couple of days without some time for myself I'm getting really grumpy. So, yeah, when I go to family diner during Easter, where we have something around 30 (yes, that many) people at one table I don't feel that bad
  15. Ok, so let's start official preparations Honor Spren and I have already described our Smedry characters. I think that everyone else, who wants to play a Smedry should write down what Talent they'll have. I think we should put a hard limit on Smedrys, so there won't be more than 10 or something like that, what do you think? Except for Tenteron, I'm planning on playing: Victor Sembroy - A Hushlander, IT specialist/hacker/journalist investigating the dig site where the artifact got uncovered. Julia Verana - A young Dark Oculator, trying to get to the artifact too. and William McBookintosh - Boss of the company that dug out the artifact and is currently guarding the dig site. He's an ex-Librarian from the Order of the Shattered Lens. He knows Silimatics very well and is an expert in creating primitive technology that can counter it. So yeah, 4 characters... That's a lot, but I want to be present on every side of the conflict If I won't be able to handle it, I'll drop some of them or give them away. Everyone, please share your characters. I'll start the RP sometime this week in another topic, and we'll leave this one for planning and discussion. By the end of tomorrow I should have a post ready, where I explain the setting and background and talk about some other things that I might find important EDIT: Honor Spren - I like this singing talent, very versatile
  16. Don't worry I think it will go away by tomorrow morning
  17. So I've been browsing some internet, and found this wikipedia page about Pledge of Allegiance. From what I remember I saw some movies where US kids were pledging something to their flags etc. in schools, but I thought it was something that was going on long time ago. Do you still do it? You start your day with this? If yes, then to me, that is one of the weirdest thing about US, next to the amount of obese people on electric scooters (are these kind of people even present in any other country?)...
  18. Well, I still want to do it, but first I want to refresh my memory of the world by rereading... however, if you are all eager to start I can propose some basic rules, the first post and we're ready to go Then, I'd just reread during the game.
  19. And after his little message, he would play:
  20. Those little radiant capes! This is amazing
  21. Did they explain why they turn you down? Maybe it's just misunderstanding? Ask them what should you change to get a dog from them.
  22. Hi, I'd like to ask how should I use the {{annotation ref}} tag properly, since when I used it on Grandpa Smedry's page, the link generated on the bottom is not correct.
  23. Looks like we're going to have a lot of Smedrys I was planning on having two Smedrys, one oculator and the other not, but seeing that they are so popular, I'll pass on the not-oculator. So the Smeadry I have in mind is Tenteron Smedry - a fine gentleman in his thirties, an oculator. His talent is missing things. It usually activates near doors causing him to more than occasionally bump into door frames etc. Other used: missing the bullet that someone shoots at him or when he's locked up behind bars, he sometimes can walk through them, just missing them in his way out... I think there are many more interesting uses for his talent to miss things. Idea for some other Smedry: A talent to doodle. Person having this talent is a compulsive doodler and the things he/she doodles appear in reality. This is a bit similar to Aydee's talent, as this talent does not create things out of nothing, it just replaces them from somewhere. So, if you doodle something that does not exist, it won't appear. However, do a small doodle of an ostrich while you are siting on a toilet and BAM! there is an ostrich in you privy
