  1. Arwen - the black haired elf Eowyn - the blond horse girl
  2. damnation, are you working in Antarctica or somewhere like that? Anyway, I think it's better to be cold that overheated, as it's much easier to install a heater (just plug it into the socket) than air conditioning...
  3. Vanillas do take up houses too, however, when writing Summer's first post, I figured that they are forced to live together, to save up housing costs. I agree with Blaze, that most of the Epics should have only one house.
  4. I think they have to work during daytime is that work at night costs more... they need to schedule supply deliveries, provide sufficient light and pay the workers more (although maybe they would actually prefer to work at night). Anyway, I feel your pain, my city is constantly rebuilding important roads for the last couple of year (they you UE funds!) and we have problems with traffic all the time.
  5. Now, I can't shake of the impression that Atropy is just a reincarnation of Ahmed the dead terrorist... His boney description and all
  6. My suggestion would be "drink every time Gollum says 'precious'" or "drink every time a sword is drawn"
  7. Is it even possible to add a lane to a street in one night? o.O Here in Poland it takes them at least a week, usually a month, as they need to clear the place near the road, prepare the ground etc...
  8. Did you watch the extended versions? They are like 1 hour longer EACH Return of the King is 4 hours long by itself.
  9. I'm sitting in room with 11 working computers, no air conditioning, with 34*C outside and 32*C in my room :/ All we have to help us cope with this temperature are small fans :/ how am I supposed to work efficiently when I'm sweating all over my body :/
  10. Thanks for your replies! I was playing with a thought of making Argon a redeemed Epic, but I'll leave it for now, he'll be more interesting as he is now.
  11. I'll never understand your kind of people My girlfriend and I run a temporal house for cats. It works like this: we take a homeless cat, treat him, heal him, make sure he's able to live with humans and other cats, and then search for a home for him. Currently we have 8 cats in our small flat and that drives my family crazy, since they cannot understand why we do it.
  12. That's what I thought...
  13. For all the Lord of the Rings fans, have this song: Christopher Lee as Treebeard sounds just majestic. And now I'm sad that he died
  14. During WW2, when Nazi-Germany was invading Poland, there was a battle called Battle Of Wizna. Around 700 Polish soldiers defended their positions from THREE DAYS against over 40 thousand nazis with tanks and air support. The man leading the Polish defense - Władysław Raginis - swore to hold his ground as long as he lives. When they were defeated, he ordered his man to surrender and he committed suicide by throwing himself on a grenade. More info: wikipedia There is also a Sabaton song about this battle "40:1":
  15. That was hilarious Too bad I don't really know who Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and Soarin are I have updated my post in the Epic List thread, so it now has description of Argon looks, some data about Drainer and Summer. Now, I have questions about Epics and their weaknesses, and I think this is the best place to ask them, since you guys know everything there is to be known about Epics (only Brandon knows more I guess). If an Epic is forced to face his/hers weakness, that doesn't count as something that makes them free of the negative Epicness effects, right? Is there a name, analogical to Rending, for what Megan did, that she is now a good-Epic? If an Epic is faced with someone "in possession" of their weakness the two valid behaviors are: run away or try to kill that someone despite the fear caused by the weakness, right? If someone becomes a good-Epic like Megan, does their weakness is still their weakness? I mean, if Megan was to die in a fire now, would she be reborn or not?
  16. Ohhh I forgot about the ages of my characters! Summer: 22 (well, now biologically it's 23) Argon and Drainer: 27 I'll add Drainer and Summer to the Epics List topic tomorrow probably.
  17. I like it, let's say that before Calamity she liked to die her hair and add stripes of color sometimes and all is good
  18. Nah, that's not what's going to happen, but don't worry, there is light at the end of that tunnel for Summer
  19. Eyes: green, wears glasses Hair: dark brown, more less to his neck, not reaching shoulders Body build: skinny but not anorectic, 180cm Clothing: Everything with an expensive label. Not sure what he can get in Corvallis that looks expensive, but probably some kind of suit, to make him feel more important.
  20. Well, I suck in describing people, but I'll try. Summer: Eyes: dark blue Hair: black, wavy hair, reaching her shoulders. She has diagonal bangs and usually wears her hair in a ponytail Skin: pale Figure: like a top model, but rather short, about 165cm (that's 5,4 feet for you Americans ) Clothing of choice: jeans or tracksuit bottoms and a hoodie or shorts and a t-shirt if it's hot. After all, with her job, she doesn't really crave the sexy look in her free time. And here is Argon while I'm at it Eyes: steel grey Hair: Blond, not too short, not too long, usually ruffled Body build: athletic, he knows that with his weakness he can't rely on his powers too much, so he works out. He has 185cm (~6 feet) Clothing of choice: Jeans and leather jacket. If situations requires it, he's not afraid to wear something ugly but practical.
  21. So, now both my characters are in the same timezone, which is ahead of everyone else by a couple of hours I guess... I hope you'll all catch up soon, or you won't be able to enjoy Summer's visit to Drainer's office
  22. Summer slipped out of the bathroom, wearing only a Victoria’s Secret underwear set and high heels, uniform chosen for her by Drainer. She hopped to avoid her Epic master for the rest of the day. It would be hard, but not impossible, since the house was big enough. She took her feather duster and proceeded to clean a nearby corner table (which was so clean, she could see her reflection), trying to forget she was now one year older than she was five minutes ago. She just began to calm down, when she heard a scream from the upper floor. Immediately her thoughts raced to the events she witnessed this morning of people savagely killing other people. While everyone else ran upstairs to check what happened she waited and listened, ready to run outside. No other disturbing sound came from the upper floor, so she carefully climbed the stairs. When she squeezed through a small, half-naked crowd of other maids she was struck with a view almost as shocking as what she saw before that day. Alice, one of the maids, was hanging by the neck inside Drainers study. She used a leather belt to commit suicide when no one was watching. Suddenly Summer realized things that she obliviously ignored for weeks when she was under the influence of Euphoria’s happiness. Alice was head maid and as such Drainer paid special attention to her. He frequently summoned her to his study, where they would stay behind locked door for some time. Summer sometimes heard some noises coming from the room during such times, but she always ignored them, dusting happily and humming to herself. After that Alice was always sent to Euphoria for extra dose of happiness… Summer felt dizzy. Realization of what Alice had to suffer for months, while she was drugged by Euphoria, made her feel sick. She crouched besides a wall and sobbed quietly. Overwhelmed by the horrors that Epics brought to her world, she missed the bliss of Euphoria’s narcotic-like happiness. She couldn't run away, so she at least wished to stop feeling, to become numb with delight again. Absorbed by her thought and grief, she didn't notice that Drainer came upstairs and was standing right next to her, looking inside his study. “Everyone listen up!” Drainer raised his voice to be heard despite surrounding chatter. “It seems that our head maid has resigned from her job. That’s a shame, but we cannot let this ruin the order that is to be maintained in this house! You all know your duties and you will continue to fulfill them! As the position of head maid is now vacant, I will summon you one by one for auditions to decide which one of you will take this job. Now move along, there is nothing to stare at!” “Kate, Gloria, you two take her down and get rid of her. And I don’t want to hear that you don’t know how, that is your problem now.” He added with clenched teeth, when most of the crowd dissipated. Then he walk away, heading downstairs to finish his breakfast… Following hours were like a torture for Summer and for every other girl in Drainer’s house. Soon after breakfast he started to call them to his room for his so called auditions. Girls that left the room were all visibly shocked and didn't want to talk about what he did to them. That only caused more terror among those still waiting. Summer felt like if the time was moving terribly slow and terribly fast at the same time. Not for a first time she thought about running away from Drainer. That would be certain death however. No Vanilla could resign from work for his Epic and there was no way to run away after you've been tagged by Chase. Once in a while someone tried, no one succeeded. It was about 2 PM and Summer was cleaning the same book shelf for the fourth time. She didn't even notice when one of the other girls approached her. “Summer, the sucker wants to see you next. Good luck.” She said with absent voice. Summer felt as if her heart got dumped into a bucket of ice… Argon took a khaki rain cape out of his tracking backpack. The clouds were heavy over Corvallis and the rain wasn't about to stop pouring down. He was still determined to keep a low profile for as long as he could. He visited many different town after he became an Epic, and keeping to himself always helped to avoid trouble. After crossing the town border, Argon and everyone else new to Corvallis went to a parking lot next to a concrete building with a huge screen installed on it’s wall. They were to watch a video of Rainmaker greeting everyone and explaining the city rules. Epics were obliged to listen to the Queens, Vanillas were obliged to obey every order given to them by an Epic, unless it would contradict an order given by another, more important Epic, and so on. Argon listed only with one ear, the rest of his attention channeled to observation of everyone around him. Most of the people were obviously Vanillas, dirty, tired and visibly happy about the prospect of food and shelter. The few Epics among the crowd seemed pleased too, they were about to get a new house, a couple of servants. He was told that he would receive the address of his assigned house and directions on how to get there by a text message on his mobile and the whole video watching was a waste of time, so he went on to the city. Argon didn't go far when he was approached by a young man carrying a heavy backpack. “Those Epics have a knack for coming up with useless tasks, don’t you think?” He said freely. “For instance, I’m supposed to bring all the documents about our new citizens to the Rainmaker’s office. Someone might take them there by car, but who cares! Better let me carry these twenty pounds of paper on foot! Anyway, that’s my job. What did Epics come up with to make your life miserable my friend?” Argon looked at him amused, but not surprised. He knew, that in his rain cape, he didn't look anything like an Epic. More like a Vanilla carrying something heavy in his backpack for his master. “I’m afraid that they didn't have any occasion yet. I just came here, looking for better life.” He answered as he decided to play along this men’s mistake. He might learn a thing or two about this place. “I don’t even know what my job will be and who will I work for.” “You’d better pray that you get to work for the government. It’s the only job that can offer you any kind of stability. If you’re assigned to an Epic, you’ll never know how cruel they’ll be. Hell, you can’t be even sure if you’ll survive the day with them. My friend got assigned to an Epic called Corkscrew, and man, what he has to put up with every day...” Argon listened patiently to the man talking, remembering the rare, important facts from this river of words. This was going to be a long walk...
  23. Probably I would declare alcohol drinks and cigarettes illegal. Although that would end up with country-wide uprising and my quick death. Poles have too many problems with drinking, many drink because they are bored, many drink because it's the only way they know to relieve stress. Most of teenagers don't know how to have fun without drinking. And cigarettes are just a straight way to lung cancer and a burden for the medical care provided by the country.
  24. Sooo I'd give you a cookie, but I'm not affiliated with the Dark Alley, so just a hello to you! And which one of his works is your favorite?
  25. Idea: Once, there was no landmass, or hardly any landmass on Roshar. It was a sea planet. When people had to flee Tranquil Halls, the whole continent was raised from the bottom of the sea. This is why many of the plants and animals resemble those that live in our seas. Also, it explains why there are frequent storms, when those creatures were taken from they sea, probably using shard-level magic they got adjusted to live on the land but they still required a lot of water to survive, and so, Highstorm had to provide the water everywhere frequently. Shinovar might have been the only landmass on Roshar before people from Tranquill Halls had to move, which explains their different fauna and flora. They got merged into the new continent, but they were obviously afraid of it, and that may be the origin of "don't walk on stones" rule, to prevent the braver ones from exploring new land.
