  1. From what we have seen of the surge, which would be Lift using it, it seems to do the same for others as stormlight healing does to yourself. It has however not seen as much exploration as I believe it will get in future books, with two proto radiants known so far to be able to use it. Then again, stormlight healing could also potentially be expanded upon in future books.
  2. Assuming the mappings of pre- to post-publication glyphs is correct, (some are obviously so while other leave a bit more leeway for interpretation) we see some other poignant and intresting changes as well. While the surges and heralds remain without changes the symbols of the [orders? essences? both?] have changed arond quite the deal. I suppose I'll still refer to them with the names of the orders for simplicity despite the questions that have been brought up earlier in this thread. For clarity: I will be refering to the positions that they prior to publication held. The Windrunner glyph was moved to the Elsecaller position. The Skybreaker glyph was moved to the Windrunner position. The Dustbringer glyph was moved to the Lightweaver position. The Edgedancer glyph was moved to the Skybreaker position. The Truthwatcher glyph remained in place. The Lightweaver glyph was moved to the Edgedancer position. The Elsecaller glyph was moved to the Dustbringer position. The Willshaper glyph remained in place. The Stoneward glyph remained in place. The Bondsmith glyph remained in place. This begs the question of why these late changes where six of the glyphs positions were swapped around were made. The colous make it seem as though the asociated gemstones all remained in place as well. On the 2003 complex chart the only elemental properties, which seem to correspond to the soulcasting properties whe know today, to have changed is the exchange of wood for flesh and the other way around, of fire for crystal and the other way around and of wather for blood. None of these are mapable in any way to the changes of the glyphs. The elemental properties seem very closely conected to the essences which makes me think that the glyphs despite what we have now been told do connect to the orders. Either that or the choices are mostly aestethic, which makes little scense considering that they are writing signs that certain other members of this forum have managed to work out some logic behind. One thing in particular that I find odd is the changed position of the Windrunner glyph when it is obviously styled as a crown and the position of Jezrien isn't changed.
  3. Living in Europe there was no eclipse for me at all, though I have some time ago experienced the northern lights (during a firework even) I suppose that's another natural phenomena with a spren-esque feel to it.
  4. There are a lot of good ideas in there, but I do not yet fell that the pieces to bind them together are there. Part of the purposed premise seems rather lacking though, specifically about the ideals and how they go together with the Shards. I simply do not see how the primary/secondary groupings would overlap to a fuller extent with the intents of Honor/Cultivation as they stand. There are ideals in both that would fit much better in with the other, specifically Shallash's ideals seem to be swapped as I can't fathom why Honor would choose for creativity, nor cultivation for honesty but the opposite would fit perfectly. As such, I think you are reading in too much into the groupings into a primary and a secondary ideal. I don't really see why you feel the need to encompass this into the same theory though as this seems loosely connected to the rest at most. Edit: Ninjad by phoenix2536
  5. I honestly can´t say that I can see much likelihood of character development towards likeability in Elhokar's near future. The reason that I'm saying this is because despite all that has happened to him in the past, despite being a grown man, a father and husband, despite having been put in a position where you'd need to grow up fast as the ruler of a storming country Elhokar still hasn't stopped acting like a child. And a whiny, spoiled brat at that! He never thinks about the consequences before he acts, and when the bad things inevitably happens he doesn't even take responsibility for them. He's always depended on others, first his father and now his uncle, to clean up his mistakes. And I haven't seen a thing showing that he actually cares what happens to others. Seriously, he even picks at his food like a child! If nothing so far has managed to break him out of it, I'm not sure even the refunding of the Knights Radiant and the end of things as we know them would. I'd be happy to see my predictions wrong because it is seriously annoying to read about a grown kid, but I'd be equally happy if the turn of events meant that he would fall out of the focus of the story.
  6. That Marsh was given eleven initially doesn't mean that all Lord Ruler era Inquisitors were though. And given the placements of the other one's spikes it seems that it was in the chest they differed.
  7. I will have to contest you on it being eleven spikes listed. The eye spikes are listed as two, that would be one through each eye, but there is only listed "one through the shoulders" not one through each - which, for consticity, would have been described as two. "Through the shoulders" is a rather vague term. One that, with the linchpin spike and its placement known, could well be taken to mean the area right between them.
  8. Are we actually so shure of Shallan's mother being one of the Skybreakers? True, they would be the only known group (save the Listeners) who are going around trying to off Radiants, but Nale is still keeping vehemently within the boundries of the law and I would expect any follower of his to do the same. If that would still be the reason why Shallan was to be killed there would need to be something within Veden law allowing for this. We know of no thing that could have happened to allow this. To be fair, we know no details of Shallan's life prior to this save that something caused her to break and she attracted Pattern, and said breaking point could potentially have come with a law break. But if we allready are speaking in the unknowns, the only known group...
  9. Looking forward to the update then!
  10. As an avid phone user I'm most likely to be seen on the mobile version of 17th shard, but I have been on the computer version as well and seen the differences. To clarify, I always tend to use the "full version" (the link at the bottom of the page) because it looks neater and shows the signatures. But, despite it being a "full" version, there are features of the real full version that it lacks. I'm of course talking about the posting alternatives. I'm not very good with writing code. I basically know the BOLD and italicised configuratures and not much more. While I do know how to write a normal smiley the ninja one's coding is never going to stay long in my mind. I can't be the only one with these problems. Is there a reason as to why these shortcut buttons have been left out of accessability from phones and tablets or has this just been an oversight when building the page? Are there already plans as to ad them? I'm sure an addition would be well recieved.
  11. Bendaloy. If there is something tasty around I have dificult to stop eating, but I'm also very lazy quite often and do not want to cook anything. As a subsumer I wouldn't have to and also wouldn't need larger trousers because of the overeating. As a bonus it would be economical, and well... I AM a college student
  12. Inky (Inquisitor #5) and I also managed to pull that one of in our roleplaying group. It payed of, one of the other guys also got hooked on Brandon's books.
  13. Storm it! You found out my secret! ...Um, I mean of course not. That would be silly.
  14. First I want to share a what the storm event. Due to tecnical problems we had two lecture room changes and almost an hour of delay, but, despite that, we ended up ending early - by 20 minutes! And the lecture was only scheduled to 1 hour 45 minutes! Second is the exitement event. We are going to a castle after the lunch with my course! We are to look at an exhibition with clothes from Elizabeth: the golden age!
  15. Heh... I'm aparently so good at it that playing it as is isn't enough. I do all sorts of self-imposed challenges (owl-less etc.) I should probably try my hand on one of the increased difficulity hacks, but I just end up watcjing the lets-plays of them...
  16. You made me laugh, which is sort of bad considering what time it is here. (A clue: it is currenly Tuesday.)
  17. Burn when going in for a surgery - no complications. Burn when ill and get well faster than you normaly would. Burn whenever you are being exposed to people who might be ill, never get ill at all. Burn when you are looking for something and it will be in the next place you look. Burning while taking a test might be considered cheating... so situations like that will probably involve a metal detector once the tecnology is at that level.
  18. Super Mario 64 forever! Seriously, it's so storming good!
  19. Granted, you now have the ability, but you don't know how to access it. I wish I didn't have to rise so early to see the eclipse today.
  20. I agree with you that it makes more sence for her to be like an atheist in a religious context than ina non-religios one. However, I'm pretty sure not all atheists in religios context wold actually be that vocal about it. For me, the absence of a belief in a god seems a pretty strange thing for most people to go around talking about.
  21. Very old bones (unburned) often shift in brown hues. These would also be less likely to have broken up into pieces less than an inch across - something bones most often do during or after the burning - and as such would probably be a better bet for something that looks like wood.
  22. As I know next to nothing about Mormonism and am pretty sure I've never even met an LDS I don't think I can contribute anything to that part of the discussion. However, some of you brought up Jasnah and atheism and I believe I have more to contribute there. Jasnah is unlike almost every atheist I've ever met, myself included, and as I'm confident most people I've met fall on the scale atheist - non-religious I believe this is quite telling. Jasnah isn't a typical atheist, the people on the atheist forum that Brandon was in contact with weren't typical atheists! She does, however, bear a striking resemblance in her views to atheism as I've seen it online - typical american atheism. I don't know how commonthat kind of atheism is in other countries and I don't paint myself up as some expert on atheism, I just want to make clear how it differs from the kind I'm used to. American atheism is much more active. In contrast, what I'm used to isn't as much people having come to a conclusion that there is no place for religion in their lives as it is people who when you ask if they believe in a God answers something along the lines of "Of course not, who does?" Because to them it is as distant as believing in witchcraft or in santa. It's not a choice to not believe, it's just an absence of all religion. When you are born of non-religious parents, also have non-religious grandparents and almost everyone around you is non-religios, it's not hard to become so yourself. Myself, I come from something of a midground. My mother and stepfather are Christian, almost "religious right"-ly so. I've lived with them about as long as I can remember, so of course I was draged along to church every sunday. And as many children I had no way to tell that my parents didn't know everything and only believed in these. Learning to think criticaly and asociating with non-religios peers brought me out of there. Yet I'm not americanly atheist. Not having a religion seems to take up a rather big part of the typical american atheist's life. That might not be particulary true of everyone, but those who don't let it do that you'd never hear of without actually knowing them. Case in point with the people Brandon was in contact with, as they are likely to have about an equal interest in that as we have in Brandon's books. To compare, the most atheist things I tend to do constitutes of mentaly sighing whenever my parents say something ignorant and generally missinformed, cry foul when someone tries to use their religion to surpress me or people around me (a rare occurance, I might ad) and generaly being in the buissines of not having a religion. Oh, and one more thing, agnostic is about certanity in what you believe, not a step inbetween religious and atheist. Compare with a gnostic person who is certainthat they know everything there is to know about the existence (or non-existence) of god(s). Those are two different scales and all combinations thereof are possible.
  23. Heavy vehicles, thin walking road not ment for anything heavier than a bicycle. Isn't the first time it's happened there. And the sounds are apparently not going to stop soon, today I've also heard the start of the long since planned new house about 100 meters from my house where there's currently a mountain slope. I'm pretty sure they mean to remove most of that befor beginning constructing for reals (yay explosions!) How many years is it going to take before one can have some peace and quiet? Edit: spelling
  24. Not sure I agree with you on that one. From my experience (and I might ad I'm almost finnished with my archaeology education) burned bones tend to shift in white and a blue that I'm pretty sure I've never seen wood come in.
  25. The noises! Oh god (and I don't even believe in god) the noises! We have had almost dayly building-noises since this summer! I'm about to get crazy if I don't get to sleep well soon. I live in an apartment-house in a row of allmost identical ones, where half of each is owned by a different company. Somewhere this summer the owner ov half of the next one over decided it was time to totaly renovate his house. Need I say that takes time and is loud when you are having over 50 apartments, going one at the time, and are opening up new ones where there previously had been other things? And before they are done with that the owner of our house decides it is (finaly!) time to exchange the windows, not only being loud at a much to early hour for my college hours, but also being intrusive, generally in the way, and walking around outside my third floor window when I can neither have curtains nor blinds. And this is going on untill after Christmas! ...at which point the owner of the other half of the neighbouring house decides to also change windows... with a terribly noisy crane! And dig up the plots of grass and walkingway outside for draining purposes, leaving my way to the bus a muddy pit! And the yard-side of that house looks even worse! I'm not even sure what they're doing there, but they have had tractors there for months! And the owner of our house has yet to repair the damage that was done by the vehicles transporting the ramps and windows to the house - the asphalt is broken, there are deep tracks in the grass and somehow they even managed to break our entrance stone!
