  1. From The First Letter: I do realize that your post was more for fun than anything else.
  2. Interesting catch. I thought initially that it was like Vin feeling the words, but to me, the language is clear that he was reading the words, not feeling them.
  3. Is it impossible that one of the Scholars visited Roshar and gained the knowledge that way?
  4. Here's a link to the WoB. I couldn't quote it for some reason.
  5. That trailer/first-look looks amazing! I can't wait! I've read most Brooks' stuff, and while it can be somewhat monotonous, a lot of his stories are fantastic (pardon the pun )
  6. I agree with you completely about the Sword of Shannara, but the rest of the trilogy is actually worth reading, in my opinion. And they're making a TV show (a la Game of Thrones) based on Elfstones of Shannara which is apparently looking to be very, very well done.
  7. Link Also, this thread has some interesting speculation about the original races of the Shardholders.
  8. I just had a thought, and I suppose this would be my first theory, so feel free to tear it apart or support it as much as you all want What if, instead of Cultivation, the Honorblades were created with the help of Endowment? I have no real logic, but the idea of forging the Honorblades with a spren seems much more analogous to Nightblood. I'm probably forgetting certain facts, but there ya go.
  9. I believe that Soulcasting has a lot to do with willpower. Jasnah, as we know, is a very strong-willed person and can be very persuasive; Shallan not so much. As far as the clothes go, the clothes probably considered themselves a part of the person as a whole, and vice versa, so they were included in the Soulcasting. And distance Soulcasting may be a way to demonstrate Jasnah's skill with the Surge, but also remember that distance in Cognitive Realm (Shadesmar, where the Soulcasting actually takes place) doesn't really reflect exactly the Physical Realm.
  10. I would totally love to come, but have a weird schedule and Provo is a little far for me. The 23rd or the weekend after works best for me for this month.
  11. During my last reread of Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, I was convinced that Dalinar had asked to forget his wife. I have no reasoning to why he would, nor do I have any ideas of what the curse would be, but that was the distinct impression I got.
  12. A new book that I recently found is called The Shadow of What Was Lost. The author's name is James Islington. I'd really recommend this to all of you that love Sanderson. It has a similar feel to the Mistborn trilogy and has some interesting twists of its own.
  13. The entire Dalinar Kholin family is probably my favorite. I really liked Kaladin my first read-through, but just at hated him the second time through, especially in WoR. I love Vin and Wayne too.
  14. So I thought of an interesting visual. Imagine this: Snapping creates a conduit, a circular tube if you will, that allows you to channel the power of Preservation. Now imagine the metals as filters that can be placed over the tube, each metal having its own specific pattern, like the Aons. It is the specific pattern of the power coming through the filter that decides what power is being used. Mistings only have one specific filter, but Mistborn have all of them at their choosing. Now, to the question of the Mists. Imagine that using the Mists burns through you more conduits, but this time instead of being circular, they are in the specific patterns for each metal. The more you draw, the more permanent these patterned conduits become. I'm quite rough on theories of Realmatics, so I'll refrain from trying to draw parallels, but this seems to make sense.
  15. I have long been a fan of the Lord of the Rings and had started reading Wheel of Time around the time Robert Jordan passed away. Dragonmount published a short review of Way of Kings that compared it to Lord of the Rings and the Wheel of Time, and I figured that any book that can be compared to both in the same sentence must be worth reading. I ended up reading the Mistborn series before Way of Kings and the rest is history. Mistborn is by far my favorite series so far, and I'm not sure any magic could eclipse allomancy and feruchemy on my list of favorite magics. I've been lurking here on 17s for a while and just decided to sign up a few weeks ago.
  16. One possibility, and I don't have the WoB handy, but Brandon did say that the Mists on Scadrial and Stormlight are related in some ways. Vin was able to use the mists to power her Allomancy, so I would imagine that Stormlight could possibly do the same thing.
  17. Could someone direct me to the origin of the cookies?
  18. Thanks! I've read/listened to every Sanderson book except the Alcatraz series. I've recently gotten into the comere and I'm still trying to wrap my head around everything. I've heard about these cookies... They seem dangerous.
  19. Hello! I've been reading Sanderson for a while now (thanks Robert Jordan). I want to know if somebody has compiled the existing annotations into a single PDF per book. I find reading them on Brandon's website to be tedious and would like to have them on my Kindle.
