  1. Besides this Epigraph I don't think we got much more information: So I would think it's something that is going to be answered in the back half. I guess another possibility is that someone will figure something out based on the Stormfather's flashbacks chapters, but no one has done so as far as I know.
  2. Since that WoB is from 2 years ago I would think that until someone asks it again or gets some other confirmation we should take "At this point in continuity" to mean Rhythm of War. Since we see Sigzil and Aux leaving Roshar at the end of the book I don't see why another pair couldn't use the same method (obvious nobody will be using Hoid's).
  3. So I just remembered that Kaladin gets called Child of Tanavast. Did anyone manage to piece together why Stormfather calls him that based on his memory chapters? Or did they explain it and I just missed it?
  4. I mean, do you consider them to be in limbo? Shallan is living in Shadesmar now, she has Felt, a Seon, and her powers to help her survive. Navani is in a magic coma till further notice. I think the only person who's current/future situation I couldn't give you at least an educated guess about would be the Mink, none of the main characters have a mystery to their fate at the end of the book. It's not the end of their story, and sure I'd love some details, but if Sanderson decided to stop writing it'd be a better place to end then RoW or OB IMO.
  5. I THINK he plans for Honor to see that Taravangian does terrible things even when he keeps his oaths, and to change based on that. As in move away from only oaths and start to think about what it considers good. I started typing that I think Dalinar would have rather Honor not go to Taravangian, since Odium being free from Roshar could have been enough to convince other Shards to act but I'm not sure I actually think that. I'm not completely convinced by this myself so if someone has a better idea please say so.
  6. If I understood Dalinar's plan correctly your question has two separate answers. 1. Why let Honor become part of Retribution? So that the other Shards would stop ignoring Odium and thus be forced to help fight him. His alternative qs to aeal him for a thousand years which Dalinar considered kicking the problem/can down the road. Fighting him destroys Roshar but this option has a chance of saving the planet. 2. Power needs to learn what exactly? Part of Dalinar's plan was for the power of Honor to change it'a definition of what Honor is, hopefully from oaths to somerhing aproximating what we generally use Honorable to mean AKA good. If he succeeds in this I imagine rhar Honot will eventually abandon Taravangian, but it's a century/millenia spanning plan, not a near future plan. IMO some of the Powers reaction to Taravangian as Retribution are very early signs of this. The parts of Honor that split off before he fuses with Odium to make Retribution are probably going to be doing the lions share of the observing, I'd imagine while observing the protagonists.
  7. These two have convinced me.
  8. I thought it could be considering how much she interfered with Dalinar, and if someone gets a WoB saying this I'll take it, but it seems a bit weird to me that Cultivation would have more claim than Honor or even Odium. Something about it seems too flimsy(?) idk really know how to put it. Like if it turns out to be Cultivation, in my mind it would have to be something like "Oh Dalinar is split between all three/four shards, so even though Retribution can claim a big part he can't claim all of it therefore he can't claim it at all". My real thought is that somehow he was claimed by whatever Nohadon is, though I still have no idea what Nohadon is hahahaha.
  9. Who had a claim on Dalinar's Cognitive Shadow? I feel like I missed something cause I couldn't think of anyone.
  10. If you look at the numbers 1 = A 21 = U 24 = X so 12124 = Aux
  11. This might be me reaching or misunderstanding but I thought that the first was because Odium directly helped the Spren (during the books with the Everstorm) while the Radiant Spren crossed over with their own power. The second would be that it was the form of investiture that Odium chose to impart after the deal with Honor. I understood it as "The form of surge-binding that takes it's power from Odium", AKA the magic that the Fused/Forms of Power use. I think it wasn't so much Hoid thinking "I will bring this to Roshar", rather he takes it everywhere because if everyone thinks he let it go they won't find it anywhere if he actually has it. The fact that he brought it to Roshar is just him being overconfident. I would say yes, given that we know that Sigzil manages to swear some to Aux.
  12. I liked the book alot. Can't really give it a number, I obviously finished it quite quickly, but it's probably my favorite first read (RoW wasn't one of my favorites on first read but it destroyed me and shot up the list during my reread this year preparing for the WaT). I think this is the first Sanderson book where there wasn't a single chapter I wanted to skip on my first read if that helps. If I had to pick a favorite plot it would probably be Adolin's, for some reason his story just completely gripped me and refused to let go. I wish Maya had stuck around more but her return was amazing. Szeth's (and Kaladin's) was a close second though I was more interested in the present once I (thought) I knew where his backstory was going (I did not). Nightblood finally, FINALLY, controlling his absorption of investiture was also amazing, I can't wait to read more about his POV. Also I like that Aux being 12124 is somewhat confirmed when he says his name (A=1, U=21, X=24). Sigzil's POV surprised me in that I had pretty low expectations when reading the first chapter but I quickly started loving him. Dalinar's story was strange in that I always enjoyed reading it and learning more about the past but I never felt much pressure to keep reading his POV until the contest chapters, every time we left Todium and Dalinar I wanted to return. Taravangian's thoughts where definitely a highlight of the book, though I quickly realized there was no way he was going to die, he is just to good of an Antagonist to leave after getting so much power. I do like that in his final chapter he admits that Dalinar is right, though I wonder how truthful he is in saying that his "New Kharbranth" are actually the people. The fact that he seems to have changed their memories somewhat seems very suspicious to me. Gavinor was obviously predicted by alot of people in advance but I didn't really care. Even if something is obviously going to happen I can still enjoy it and I think that he'll be an interesting character in the second half, especially if he maintains his friendship with Lift with the way they now parallel each other. I loved Honor the power, him showing up and talking to Dalinar was probably one of my favorite moments. I do wonder about Nohadon and how he keeps showing up, especially since "The Power" tells Taravangian that Dalinar's Cognitive Shadow is claimed by something else. I couldn't really think of what it could be besides whatever Nohadon is. I found the ending to be much more hopeful than I thought it would be, I was expecting a huge defeat for the heroes and this is that but I don't really think that it would have been better if they won which is probably the point if you listen to the final Chapters and Dalinar. I think the only thing that hurt about the ending was Jasnah believing she had completely failed and having her ideology broken. We have to wait so long to see her get better that it hurts more than it should I think. Overall: As I said, I really liked it, maybe even loved it. Hopefully it stays high on my cosmere list but even if it doesn't this first read was amazing. -------- Also I don't really know where to put this but what was up with the Mink? I loved his POV but it seemed like there should have been a second chapter or word about Herdaz that just never showed up.
  13. Thanks alot I was looking at the Coppermind article called Shattering, that's why I mentioned that I couldn't find the references, good to know I was looking in the wrong place.
  14. So in Chapter 21 of the preview chapters Hoid mentions that Adonalsium was Shattered aprox. 10000 year ago, did we already know that? I felt like it was a pretty important piece of info but nobody seems to be mentioning it in the reaction thread. It says the same thing on Coppermind but it doesn't have a reference, I don't know about anyone else but I always imagined the Post Shattering Cosmere being closer to millions of years old than thousands.
  15. I like the idea, but my problem with this is that I don't see what you could split off of Odium (I'm thinking all encompassing hate as the intent here) that would be purely logical. I read Taravangian shifting to his logic side as him not taking control exactly, but almost ignoring the intent of the shard and allowing him to function more than someone else who hadn't had his experience with different mind states would be able to. Also, would he still be Taravangian? As in would he need to find someone else to hold the "new" shard, would he create an avatar and give half of his power to that avatar? How would he split the power in two, and keep the power for himself since I don't see Taravangian giving it up, without duplicating himself (which as far as I know can't be done)? I don't think he can't hold both of them at the same time or they would just reform back into Odium.
