Semi-on topic. New awkward thing happened. Signed up for the Sanderson elimination. Talked about it for an hour with my brother. Gets posted on the thread that the game had started last night, and they'd just forgotten to lock the thread. Ups. I think this means...... First Ideal Time! (insert random and embarrasing theme music here) Books before friends/anything. 17th Shard before the real world/anything. Release dates before birthdays/anything. And then, just to cement my position: Because hey, why not. THE KNIGHTS AWKWARD WILL RISE AGAIN

Long Game 12: Shadows of Elantris
Elithanathile replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I want to join! Fair warning, this is my first time doing one of these, so I'm may be a liability to whichever team I'm on. I am Lareshe, a Beggar that, until recently, lived in one of the other destroyed cities surrounding elantris. I survived by betraying my neighbor, and stealing whatever food I could get from travelers. I recently moved to Kae in hopes of finding a (slightly) more honest way of life. (I still have nightmares about a traveler that I killed once.) I am naturally suspicious of everyone, and am not above betraying people I know. I am skilled at sneaking around and pickpocketing, but have no learning whatsoever, being born in an abondoned city. I see an education as unnecessary, and shun reading or writing. Does this qualify? (Also, any tips for playing would be highly appreciated.)- 1221 replies

As awkward as this may sound, in the present company, I have never actually played Sanderson elimination. Can anyone give me some starting tips?

I respond by accidentally slipping, knocking over a bookcase, which breaks open a wall, and a passerby is so surprised, she throws a pie at my face. Ha. Beat that.

Do us Knights Awkward have our Herald speaking to us in our mind? But the only way we can communicate back is talk out loud? That would be really awkward in a room full of a bunch of people. Which, of course, is the only time our herald contacts us. Of course.

A young man in tattered yellow robes, looking as though he hasn't washed them in months, and wearing a look of aged idiocy walks into the newly furnished grand hall of the Knights Awkward. He bobs his head in a sort of greeting, and opens his mouth. "I did done do these now. Cans I joinings? Bokks are goot. I haz kitty. Whats are we talkings? I iz awkwords." He takes your dazed silence as agreement, and leaves to look for the attic, so he can Leap Of Faith off into a wagon of hay. The knights awkward have risen again. And they should really screen their members more carefully.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Elithanathile replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When this: ^ happens. And you are maniacally grinning with joy. :D -
I, for one, think that the epic turf war would be a great idea, giving lots of action, with most of the viewpoints from civilians, (possibly starting their own unofficial reckoners cell?) with occasional episodes with reckoners killing a few epics, and see how the city changes because they are gone. Just some theorizing.

Welcome to the forum! In the second interlude with Rysn, it is said that the original plan for trading in the Reshi Isles was to obtain a dead larkin. At the end of that interlude, Rysn receives a live one instead for her boldness. It is confirmed that a larkin is the creature in the Lift interlude that sucked the stormlight out of Lift. It is also believed that there is some kind of relationship between radiants and larkins. My guess is that the Rysn interludes will continue showing us the different parts of Roshar, explaining the world, and presenting the larkins into the world, so we can learn more about them. I speculate that they will have some kind of implication on later books.

Is anyone here not in college?
Elithanathile replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
And here I have been, thinking I was the youngest person on here for a while. I'm in my first year of High School, but I've been a fan since I was 10. Does that count? Also, I give Kudos to any Middle Schooler that has over a thousand upvotes. -
Any chance you could provide a link to the Vin Let It Go song?

Hum. First time I've seen Star Wars brought into the Sanderverse. (That's probably an awful term.) And I like it. That ability would make Dustbringers crazy powerful. Being able to look at a brick wall, see it's weakpoint, run at it, and kick it in that spot, and just have the whole wall explode (read: fall down) on you, would be awesome. Being able to crack chasmfiend shells with a touch, negate the Parshendi's armor, etc. The dustbringer squires would probably be the special forces of the army, going in and defusing dangerous situations. I now want this to happen in the books so bad. Make it so, Brandon!

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

A good tangent or a bad tangent. Good: "Oh, that guys awesome!" Bad: "My students never stop talking about him! He's disrupting my class!" (Because if it's the latter, he shouldn't be teaching literature and writing.) -
Kobold King is Actually Brandon
Elithanathile replied to Elithanathile's topic in General Brandon Discussion
So...... good. I just laughed and laughed at that. Of course, if you are actually Brandon, you are just spreading misinformation, with which to ensnare unsuspecting 17th sharders! Don't listen to him people!- 55 replies

Possibly, these comet-spren are the observers of the even more powerful terror that may arise later in the series, keeping him/her/it informed of pivotal events. Eshonai sucking in a storm-spren would fit, as would Kaladins battle vs. Szeth. Another possibility is they are redemption spren, or something along those lines. It is said that every radiant is cracked, broken in some way, and these sprens possibly attempt to get them to realize they are going in the wrong direction and recover. It would fit for Eshonai, as she instinctively grabs it, and pulls it close. In the storm, they are trying to get Szeth to back down and think about what he is doing. No proof for any of these, just random theorizing.

Kobold King is Actually Brandon
Elithanathile replied to Elithanathile's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Your first point is probably correct. It explains the high rep-count, but he would probably lay low for a while. As for the second of your points? May I direct you to http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/22472-brandon-sanderson-facts/- 55 replies

About the Kobold King is Brandon thing? Yeah. I just made a post about that 10 minutes before revisiting this thread yet again and reading this page. Oops. -
This is just a thought I had. It makes sense that Brandon would have an account on the forums that doesn't show him as Brandon, so he can quietly post without being mobbed by questions. so I was thinking about who it might be, and my first and strongest thought is... Kobold King! He has so many upvotes, his rank is above adonalsium. It all fits! Leave your thoughts. And random ideas. And any related jokes/puns you might have.

My thinking about this is that there are three shards, including Honor, but honor is dead. I see this meaning that Honor could live again. If the oaths are carried out, he could be "revived" and come back. So honor isn't currently in play, but he could be brought back.

I was about 10, loved to read, and devoured just about any fantasy book that I was allowed close to. I was on the lookout for a good book, and noticed a small book called Elantris up on a top shelf. I managed to get it down, and started reading. In two days I had finished the whole thing. I put it down and went looking for my next book. The next week, I picked it back up and reread it. I took special note of the author's name, and went and begged my dad for more books by this author who had crashed into my life like a freight train of awesomeness. My father had read the book a long time ago, but forgot about it. Thanks to my urgings, he purchased the way of kings, read the whole thing, and then said I couldn't. He did purchase the alcatraz series though, which I enjoyed for many years until I was allowed to read mistborn 1, which had been purchased a while ago. I finished it, and begged my dad for books 2 and 3. He bought a boxed set, and I zoomed through them. I discovered Brandon's site, and eventually found a reference to the 17th shard, which I became a proud member of. I discovered the cosmere of my first visit, and basically just ran around the house screaming inarticulately about awesomeness. I have also listened to every episode of writing excuses. Now I can be found telling anyone and everyone who comes close to me how awesome Brandon Sanderson is. I have converted 2 people to date, one of which was last week, and have tried to convert hundreds. I have no cookies though.

Beowulf Boast: Game
Elithanathile replied to Sirce Luckwielder's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Hoid seems to fit the bill, but I'm guessing I'm wrong. -
Realized that today is the 10 year anniversary of when Elantris was first published, which launched Brandon to where he is today, with many wonderful stories, a great community, and many hours sunk into reading and re-reading his books to discover the many secrets, because as we know, "There's always another secret." This is a thread to congratulate Brandon on 10 years of fantastic writing, and wish him many, many more. Also, feel free to say how his books have inspired you, how they changed your life. Allow me to be the first. I cannot see how my life would be without Brandon's books, they inspired me to become a writer, and that's what I've spent the last 6 years of my life going towards, and I know that if I can write books the tiniest bit of an iota as good as one of Brandon's I can be a success. I have a purpose for my life, and I owe it all to Brandon Sanderson. Now my speech is constantly littered with references to books that other people don't get, which is part of me. I am so grateful to Brandon for his long years of writing, leading, and inspiring with his books. I wish you the best Brandon, and many many more years of writing in front of you. Happy anniversary.
