  1. And Thoron wants to find a smaller city, with some epics in it, but none powerful enough to stand in his way. He wants everyone else to look up to him, and respect him, and he feels like he can't do that with many other powerful epics around. But maybe he decides that he needs to make some motion, go big, if you will, to make the entire world notice him. so I think he's going to head to Astoria.
  2. To answer your power questions, thousands of our skin cells die every second, which then flake off, so we grow still, with our skin expanding and our bones growing, but we still lose those skin cells. His skin cells never die, meaning that his skin is always getting thicker, so he is growing and extra inch or two every year. It is stated multiple times in the reckoner books that epic powers are weird, not acting like they maybe should. So he can move the air, but everything else is immobile. And he sees himself as a sueprhero, kinda like superman, but with some other ones mixed in. His shapeshifting powers are just showing on the outside what he sees himself as on the inside. If he really tried, he could manipulate them to a further extend, but he's satisfied with how they show him now. Sorry if my facts are off anatomically, I read it a while back, and that's what I remember, but I might have forgotten something very important that makes my point null.
  3. My Epic is pretty combat focused, so I'd like to try and put him in a setting with more plots and intrigue, forcing him to change his habits and how he does things. I want there to be some character growth I will wait to see how Edge puts things before I make my final decision.
  4. What's the difference between the different cities?
  5. The Salem Thread. It seems a bit light on epics, as far as the rules and regulations topic shows.
  6. Yep. That's an entire 15 minutes of my morning you're looking at there. A.K.A. Feel free to tell me what to do to improve it, because I know it can be better.
  7. Is this were I go to add a new character to the madness that is the reckoners RPG? If so, I'll edit this with the information of my epic, so you can all pick and tug at it until it gets better. Edit: Here's all the relevant and irrelevant information Thoron, defender of the people. Chin Wong, Grew up in China, working in a factory from the ages of 10-22, before his parents saved up enough money to send him away, and go to America. Discovered comic books, and became fascinated by superheroes in general. Worked at a car manufacturing plant for 8 years, while building up his collection of comic books, but going to the gym regularly, and never discussing them, so as not to be called a “nerd.” Was 34 was calamity rose, and a few years afterwards, was overjoyed to discover he had powers. When his rending occurred, he originally tried to lock himself in his apartment, after he realized what would happen, but he blew up the building, and went on his rending, destroying entire city blocks nearby. He had stalled enough though, that he didn't destroy more. His parents had finally saved enough to come to America, had finally tracked down their son, now that they were getting on in years, but had not told him because they wanted it to be a surprise. They were walking down the street, excited to see him once again, when he destroyed the block. Their hearts were broken at seeing him, and they died with the rest of the block. He never became aware that he had killed them. Very PR focused. Styles himself as a superhero, and styles his fights to make him seem to be a hero, while casting his opponent in a bad light. Is grim underneath the surface, but he almost always has a smile on his face for the crowd, and most citizens see him as good. He seeks the praise of others, and after one city idolizes him for a time, he will move on, constantly attempting to gain more fame. But underneath the pristine exterior, he has a violent temper. He tries to keep it under control, but if someone gets in his way, or frustrates or annoys him in any small way, he will take it out on that person, and occasionally other bystanders in a mad fit of rage. He never attempts to cover these up, merely stating that the offender, who is now dead, was a traitor, and was a threat to the city. Most don't believe these statements, but he does enough for the people, in their eyes, that nobody really complains. He must always have his way. Tries to help the people, isn't big on mad rampages, and views the world and incredibly courageous, to the point of foolhardy even, trusting his powers to keep him safe. It's also good for his image. Easily provoked to anger, pushed to be the person everyone looks up to, and egotistical, thinking himself a superhero, and no-one else can be as strong, or as handsome as he is, because they aren't one. Also holds a grudge a long time. His three wishes would probably be: To have the anger taken from him, to earn the respect of the entire world, and probably to stop using the powers, so to have an alter-ego. Cocoa Puff Question: Probably have a small bit of anger inside, suppress it, try and go to a different store to get some, but remember the “slight” and possibly target the store as a candidate for destruction during a fight in the future. Enemy laundromat question: He would attempt to force them to remove their clothes from the machine. If they complied, he would probably let them live, but if they complained or hesitated, he would kill them without a thought, burn the washing machine, and then bully another customer into letting him use theirs. Powers: Cannot be damaged. i.e. skin cells do not die, so constantly getting bigger. Never gets stomach cramps, sickness, or bullets to the brain. The bullet would have some impact, so he can be shifted around, but would not penetrate, or damage anything. Could be seen as “next level” of impenetrable skin. Power sees how he sees himself, and keeps it that way. So he sees himself as perfect skin, skin never dying, never getting stomach cramps, so it keeps him that way. Can freeze time, but can't affect anything frozen in time, so he just uses it to move around. Looks like a mix of teleportation and super speed. Very minor shape shifting powers, only usable to change physical appearance. He used to have brown hair, and light skin, though pretty bulky, he changed it to a tan skin color and black hair, in a superman style. Super strength, so can lift a bus, but mostly uses it for brawling, coupled with skill in boxing/brawling/martial arts given by powers. Doesn't bother dodging blows. Appearance: Wears cape, and usually jeans and T-shirt, but has custom made superhero costume locked away, for “special occasions.” Very large, (6'8”) and has big muscles. Plays off of the superman angle for looks. The pupils of his eyes are black, the one thing he can't change about his appearance, somehow brought on by his abilities. Strong features, chiseled face, etc. Edit: Something I forgot to mention, he is pretty shallow-minded about his powers. Instead of using them for disguise or discovering secrets, he uses them primarily for fighting and making himself look like a superhero.
  8. Questions thread? Such as, "Question 12" or "Question 8" etc?
  9. So I've been wanting to get into the world of the reckoners RPG for a while now, but I've been confused on how to begin. It looks so dark, and creepy, and..... pony-y? So I was hoping that some veterans of the thread could come and explain how to get started, and how the RPG works. You know, as a kind of, "It's dangerous to go alone, take this," kind of thing. A big thank you in advance to all those that do share their wisdom here, and I hope this thread helps everyone, or at least many, people who wanted to RP, but were to afraid to ask. Or did ask. Them too. Know what, everyone can read this if they want to.
  10. That is inspiring. It made a tear come to my eye. I hope one day, firstRainbowRose, I can have as many repeat books as you. I'm going to look heroically off into the distance while patriotic music plays now.
  11. I'd advise not using "Black Magic." Use Old Magic. Way cooler if you ask me. Though the boon might have some interesting side effects on your social life.
  12. About the whole cat naming thing? I got lucky, and was able to persuade my sisters, who have not read cosmere books, to name two of our four cats Kaladin, and Hoid. Later, after we left on vacation, who survived and stayed? Hoid and Kaladin. via Imgflip Meme Maker
  13. Super great to see all these signed books. It's such a great testament to Brandon's dedication. And I would love to go to some signings, but the closest Brandon has ever been is Pheonix, which is 3 hours away, and I failed to persuade my father to spend an entire day to it with a backseat of books. I couldn't figure out why. Hopefully one day in my life I can get a signed book. And congratulations to all with legion! I have been after that book for years now, but am not willing to shell out $50-$100 for a limited edition copy. Hopefully I can get one after the next print run.
  14. I, to my eternal shame, have no signed copies of any of Sandersons novels. I am a sad excuse for a Sanderfan, I know. But I was just wondering, what is the ratio of people who have signed novels as opposed to those without. So this is a thread to put how many books you have, and which ones are signed. You can also put any information that Brandon Signed into the book, or that he told you while you got it signed. Every little bit of WoB counts! Pictures are appreciated, but nowhere close to being necessary. To get the ball rolling, my family has WoK, WoR, Warbreaker, steelheart, alcatraz 1, alcatraz 4, Elantris, and AoL. None of these are signed. Can't wait to see how many of you lucky ones have signed copies. Edit: I also have Mistborn 1-3, I merely forgot to add them to the list.
  15. I wish that Lift was my favorite character, but she does have the moral fiber to be at that standard quite yet.
  16. Quick Disclaimer: SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS FOR WOR If you have read the book, carry on. Otherwise, skip this post. This isn't really directly related, but I believe Jasnah did expect the assassins, so she could follow them and learn their plans, so she planned to fake her death. They hit her with the club/sword. (I'll need to look it up in my copy of WoR) and she healed using stormlight from her clothes. She just didn't plan to get stabbed a second time. That was what forced her all the way into shadesmar. So she did plan for almost everything. I even suspect that the "mysteriously broken door lock," as you put it, might have been intentional by Jasnah, so they would get to her, "kill" her, and then leave without hurting anyone else. If it was securely locked, they might either bash it down, making noise, so the assassins would have to kill guards, or simply burn down the ship with everyone in it. I am 90% sure there is a WoB somewhere saying that Jasnah expected the assassins, but had their plans wrong. Jasnah thought a small team would come onto the ship, try and kill her, and then leave quietly. She did not expect them deciding to simply kill everyone on the ship, just to be on the safe side. So, at least in this case, I would say that Jasnah was cautious, and thoutful, she simply couldn't know her enemies plans exactly. "No battle plan ever makes it through a battle intact." - Person who was most likely a famous general, but I don't know his/her name.
  17. I've converted about 8 and 1/2. 3 brothers, 2 sisters, a classmate at school, my dad, (sorta) and two grandparents, to an extent.\ Since I discovered the Sanderson 5 years ago or so, I'd say my track record is pretty good
  18. Pretty much what you said there. Shallan met some serious opposition as a child towards her being a proto-radiant, or something that happened, that put her into some kind of shock, and so she put up a form of mental block. She is starting to break through it in WoR, but it still inhibits her. Her even admitting to herself that she has a shardblade is a major step for her anyway, but admitting that her shardblade has something to do with pattern/her past, is just too far a stretch for her to make at this point, so she deliberately stalls the summoning, even when it's a life or death situation.
  19. I am Male. With hair, teeth, and eyes. I have been called albino. I am not big-boned. My face is good. I am not foreign. My eyes may or may not be windrunner eyes, and hair could be called a color that is darker than blonde. That's all you're getting from me Good "Luck"
  20. Do you know which surges correspond to which orders?
  21. Also, a man in ragged robes rambles right by. He stops and says to beard man, "Wasing not of the wantings of." He then goes on his merry way.
  22. All I can say to that is, After you read some more of alcatraz, you will know what is different. And it is brilliant.
  23. I think team 2 would win. Elantrians have crazy healing powers, and can shoot minor death bolts. Along with Denth, who is an amazing swordsman, and Eshonai, who with her shardplate, is virtually unstoppable. Kaladin, as a proto-radiant, might be able to take out Eshonai, but if Denth is running interference for her, no way. Denth Vs. Kaladin? Denth wins. He has the experience and the physical strength and speed he needs. Raoden should be able to take some hits from vin without dying, his only problem is that he isn't very mobile. He would most likely stand still while shooting Aons, while Vin is jumping around, which gives her an edge. Hrathen just isn't a threat, and everyone would probably just ignore him, unless Eshonai took the time to just throw him off the plateau. Raoden and Eshonai have no metal on them, so Vin couldn;t push or pull them around. Denth does have his sword, so she might jump around using him, but I think Denth would figure out what was going on, and move around to avoid her being able to use him like that. And if she straight up tried to Push him off, he would either discard his sword and go for her without it while she is distracted, or, he would weigh more than her, and she would get pushed off instead. With her main source of jumping being pretty much useless to her, Vin would resort to dropping lots of coins to give her the acrobatic and aerial advantage. Once this was figured out though, Denth/Eshonai would begin attempting to knock the coins off the edge, forcing Vin to drop more, until eventually she has run out. The metal at the bottom of the Chasms would mean that knocking Vin off would be a useless gesture, as she would simply find a spear or another source of metal and come back up from a different angle, surprising them. And eventually, it would only take one of Raodens blasts to bring her down. And that's not considering Raoden teleporting, using fire, or any other Aons that he has in his arsenal. I see the fight as going, (in a general sense) Raoden and Vin sparring, with Vin dropping coins to manuever. Kaladin heads straight for Eshonai, seeing her as the biggest threat. He begins to outmanuever her, when Denth comes in, and takes up all of Kaladins attention. Eshonai either helps Denth finish off Kaladin, While Raoden holds off Vin, and Hrathen tries to help Kaladin. After a heated battle, Kaladin's stormlight runs out, and he takes one blow to many, after which Eshonai and Denth dispatch Hrathen easily, and then try and help Raoden, but they are mostly short ranged, and end up mostly just blocking some of Vins shots, which Eshonai's shardplate can easily take. Then they begin to recognize they cannot really help Raoden, and proceed to try and limit Vins actions, by knocking off the coins and creating areas where she cannot land without being attacked by a shardblade, which she can't really defend against, or Denths sword, which would be very difficult to avoid. Eventually she would tire, begin to slow, and either Raoden would bring her down, or Denth and Eshonai would catch her off guard. No matter how you put it, I just can't see team 1 winning with such a weak support group.
  24. New state of awkwardness! (Man, I'm really climbing the corporate ladder fast, aren't I.) When you're the only person older than 12 at a party, and you literally spend the entire time reading a book in the corner. Second Oath time! (I have also decided I am a theoryweaver.) I will speculate even if there is nothing to speculate upon (though considering this is Brandon Sandersons books we're talking about there's always something to speculate upon.)
