  1. would probably help if the breath used to awaken the lifeless was the body's original breath
  2. it would be tough to arrange all of that, since you'd need to someone convince a bird to store both aluminum and tin, not to mention the trouble of even giving it those abilities in the first place, but in theory yes.
  3. also the part where Egwene independently re-invents Travelling. though that does sort of fall to the wayside given what happens after, yea.
  4. I love how casual the actual act is. like she doesn't even realize for half a second what she has actually done
  5. it's not clear whether nicrosil works that way. the cases we've seen of it so far have people storing their allomantic or ferruchemical abilities, so it isn't clear that you could actually store a breath. that said, assuming it does work that way, i'd guess you'd get back a superbreath
  6. I don't think you can spike the shadows. for one thing, they aren't physically there, and for another, they almost certainly don't have blood, which is sort of essential for HEMAlurgy
  7. I think that losing your own investiture only happens when you transfer your natural breath. so for instance if a non-nalthian is given breaths and the they give them away they shouldn't lose any of their own investiture from that, it just that Nalthians are born with breaths which encompass some portion of their own investiture in addition to some of Endowment's added on top, so when they give that away it takes that portion of their own investiture with it.
  8. I think there is some confusion in the question too here. A resonance is a sort of interaction between multiple powers, so there are sort of a few separate questions here: 1. can you use hemalurgy to steal resonance - I think we have a solid "No" or "Mostly no" on that 2. If you use hemalurgy to steal multiple powers can a resonance form between those - I would have assumed that would be a yes, and i'd still land there, but admittedly the WoB above makes it less likely 3. Ca a resonance form between the hemalurgic charge itself (irrespective of what that charge is) and another power. this is what I assume Brandon is saying no to in the WoB, but I could be misreading it.
  9. probably, but other than being confusing, i'm not sure you could get much out of it.
  10. I'd have to double check, but I think Roshar has a higher concentration of Oxygen in its atmosphere than Scadrial so even that is better-suited for the koloss
  11. This is sort of what I would expect from this. once the investiture is no longer attached to your spiritweb, the inertial forces trying to revert your spiritweb to normal no longer apply to it, so the spike investiture remains stable, or at least as stable as any spike. I am a bit more curious about the "your own soul will have less damage" part. it sounds like, because the spike took mostly the forgery overlay, that your own spiritweb would be less affected. I'm really curious if you spiked out something that you normally wouldn't have had at all would you end up with a completely undamaged spiritweb after it finished rejecting the forgery? and if you re-stamped yourself later on, would the stamp still function the same way? I'm assuming it would. so given all that speculation, if you could reliably spike out something without killing the donor, could you use forgery and hemalurgy to create a renewable source of certain specific types of spikes? maybe throw some regrowth in there to heal from the physical damage of the spiking.
  12. it would probably be easier to get a perfect gem full of stormlight, coat it in glass, and etch the aons into that. there are cases in Elantris where an aon is inscribed onto a physical object and awaits activation (their lights, for one), so that part is doable. and in general you can do pretty much anything with Aons, provided you know how to combine and modify them to met the task. they are, by far, the most all-purpose magic system w have seen so far. the main thing that isn't clear is how well they would be able to use a ferruchemically stored attribute. I suspect if you wanted them to be able to tap/store into an unsealed metalmind you could make that work, but using the investiture in the metalmind as a power source might not, since that investiture has a specific "shape" already, defined by the metal it is stored in. this is all pretty much speculation though.
  13. no worries. the biggest problem with this scenario is that the person doesn't naturally have ferruchemy. so either they would need access to unsealed nicrosilmind to continue having the ability to use the new metalmind or else it too would have to be unsealed. and we don't know how to make an unsealed metalmind, so it may be difficult or impossible for 1. the non-ferruchemist to create an unsealed metalmind using an ability that he only has via an existing metalmind or 2. to make an unsealed metalmind that is keyed to himself.
  14. I wasn't sure. its been a bit since I read the mistborn era 2 books.
  15. so 2 main things here: 1. the gold compounder example you give is probably similar to how the Southern Scadrians create their medallions. I'd have to double check the book, but I think they initially used Hemalurgy to create people with the necessary skillsets to do that 2. while we know that Hemalurgy doesn't have to be fatal to the donor, I don't think that is known on Scadrial by era 2. they might conceive of a gold ferring being able to heal from the donation, provided that ferruchemy isn't what is being taken, but I don't think they know enough about it to carefully remove an attribute without killing the donor.
  16. I don't see why not for either case. heck, on Roshar we know that the greatshells have some kind of symbiotic relationship with spren that allows them to grow that big, and given enough time koloss (possibly in altered form) could maybe forge such a relationship and grow yet bigger still
  17. Chinkoln touched on this too but there is also simply the scarcity: there are only so many in existence and, up until the present anyway, more can't be made. that touches on the most basic economic principle: supply and demand
  18. All the Dune talk recently made me want to reread that. I've Read Dune 2 or 3 times before, and Dune Messiah and Children of Dune once each, I think and nothing after that. so this time I decided to t least get through the Frank Herbert books. finished God Emperor yesterday and started on Heretics today.
  19. Honestly, while I think you are mostly right, I do think Dune is an exception to this. it may not be perfect, but I think it holds up better than most f the Asimov I've read, for example.
  20. I did a project on the derivation of that back in Calc 2, though I've forgotten most of it long since
  21. I tend to think of it like pushing the investiture through a mold. the metal shapes the investiture as it enters the physical realm. this is why burning a metalmind works differently - the ferruchemical charge changes the shape of the mold
  22. I suspect they would have trouble stealing the vessel's connection to the shard, in fact, given the oaths, I have some doubt that a spren-bonded bondsmith would be able to decrease someone's connection in general. However, if for instance they came across a free shard that they were not initially sufficiently Connected to, then they could probably boost their own connection to it enough to pick it up, though whether that would last long enough to continue holding it I don't know.
  23. i couldn't quite mange Minish Cap. in the last fight, controlling 4 Links at once without letting any of them take a hit was just too much trouble. also my copy of Twilight Princess froze on me as I entered the room to start the final boss fight
  24. petty sure it would take an absolutely enormous amount of chromium to leech a spren/shardblade even to the point of becoming a deadeyes. and that's assuming its standing still long enough to let you.
  25. i think i got down to the last 3 without needing any outside help. and one of those I knew the location, but couldn't work out how to get it open for a while.
