Got the hard drive out of the personal laptop that failed and turned it into an external hard drive. I'm copying music, photos and notes to another (older) laptop so that they exist in two places. Later, I'll hook up my massive external hard drive and back up there as well. So, I'll have to get a new laptop, but that purchase can be postponed for a bit!

I had jet lag going to Central America, let alone South America! You could easily get jet lag traveling within North America!

Initial thought: did the New 52 version steal Dr. Strange's cape? Other than that, both seem kinda meh... Both scream, "hey, guess which other superhero I'm based on!" But that's not what you asked...I like the Rebirth one better. -

Couple things: first, nothing wrong with enjoying or bring inspired by flawed things! I mean, I'm a big fan of Man-Thing and Magnus Robot Fighter comics. There's nothing challenging about them, and it's essentially the same story over and over again (Magnus goes after evil robot. After fighting for a bit, Magnus karate chops the robot to pieces. Robot emits death squeal, "Squeeeee!". Rinse, wash, repeat with different robots, dinosaurs, robot dinosaurs and evil alien warlock robots that want to harvest the psychic energy of humans as a source of their mystical powers. See? Garbage!) But I enjoy them. That said, it shouldn't be surprising that new things coming from Rowling aren't particularly imaginative or challenging because, well, look at the source! That's like if I got a new Magnus comic and complained about him fighting robots. I might say that Magnus' robot fighting is not as good as it used to be, but expecting Magnus to be the high end of comic art? That's just not what it is. And you can still keep the inspiration and even use the failings of the art to instruct/inform you on your own projects. -

It's also a cheap dues ex machina. -
There is a sequel series with Fitz that starts with Fool's Errand. I have not read it, but I've heard it's good.

I think a lot of you have an inflated idea of how frequent and present a danger tornados are. To give you an idea, something like "tornado insurance" is far less common than flood or hurricane insurance. In fact, a lot if not all damages caused by a tornado are covered under standard home insurance. To give you another idea: a wind storm called a derecho caused a lot more damage in an area I lived in than a tornado that also touched down in that area. So, we watch out for tornados, but they don't rule our lives.

Yeah, between the Infinity Gauntlet and the new Secret Wars, I think just about everyone and everything on the Marvel side has died at least once. -

I don't much care for the videos either. It's usually hosted by some smarmy individual that thinks they're funny and talented, and dang it! They'll share that talent with you!

Anyone else like Suicide Squad?
Orlion Blight replied to mattig89ch's topic in Entertainment Discussion
This is the first and only time I have ever believed that studio involvement ruined the film. There's plenty to like about it, but the editing was sooo weird! I didn't get enough Joker to form an opinion and Harley Quinn seemed to be shoehorned into most of her scenes...Like the editor decided, "we haven't seen her in a minute, let's add a scene with her saying something!" Like they were trying to make the Suicide Squad movie into a Harley Quinn movie but didn't really have the shots to do so properly. Also, the studios need to realize that not every conflict has to threaten the world. -
The Official Thread of Relationships

Shoot, it was somewhat work related. Two things: 1) Note time and dates when he does creepy stuff like get closer to ask questions. This will be necessary to demonstrate that he is creating an intimidating environment. If you all ready have the case, take it up with the supervisor. You shouldn't bring up anything about any perceived romantic intentions on his part without clear intent, just that you find his matter intimidating and distracting to your work. 2) Merely ignoring him doesn't seem to work since he believes he is entitled to a response. So a terse response followed by something like "I resolved it." To cut off further inquiry would be best. In the case of your example, "Yes, I resolved it." "How?" "Had them restart their device." "Heh, that's amusing" "disinterested grunt as you go do something else." Honestly, as I get more information it's hard for me to get a read on this guy. Luckily, that's not necessary, since the issue is workplace intimidation, which does not depend on his intentions. -

Do you mind sharing what the question was? Depending on the content, that might be something to bring up with the supervisor. In fact, if he continually asks questions that have nothing to do with the job, that's something to bring up with the supervisor since it interferes with your ability to do your job. Particularly in this entitled manner. -
Oh, but beer is wonderful! You got so many varieties with different tastes! The IPAs, The lagers, various ales, stouts, porters...beer is great! Like wine, you have your spectrum of quality. Just as you have your box wine, you have your garbage beer... Like Bud Light or really most of the incredibly available beers.

The Official Thread of Relationships
Orlion Blight replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Honestly? The guy could also just not like silences. Without an overt proclamation, any confrontation based on the idea that he is seeking romance would fail, since he would have plausible deniability. Confrontation is probably the best course, but over what he actually says. So, when he asks you another dousy like "are you full?" It might be best to respond with, "that's a weird question which makes me uncomfortable." When he stutters about how that wasn't his intention, you could respond with something like, "please, I just want to do my job." -

Here's what you do. You go up to him, and hand him a five dollar bill. When he asks you what it's for, you respond, "it's to help you get a clue." -

Yes, those are species of grapes. You also have fortified wine, like port and sherry, where you add liquor (usually a grape liquor) to the wine. A wine's terroir is the terrain it was grown in, thus a chardonnay from grapes in California will have a different taste because of what the soil contributes than a chardonnay from Australia. Also, a wine can be named after the geographical location it was made. So a Sur- Rhône is a wine grown and made in a district in France corresponding to the southern portion of the Rhône river (though good, the really fancy Rhône wine is in the Northern portion).
