  1. Depends. If an inquiry were made, it can go down. If you don't use credit cards enough, it goes down. If you use your debit/ credit cards in disreputable neighborhoods, it can go down (use cash instead! ) Hope it didn't go down too much!
  2. I'm in the "Memories of Ice is the best" camp But I always tell people getting into Malazan: People generally do not know if they will like the series until Deadhouse Gates or Memories of Ice, so you might as well read the first three... And House of Chains introduces Karsa, so you might as well read that one. And you can't not read Midnight Tides, that's where Tehol and Bugg are introduced! And so on and so forth.
  3. @Dunkum @Left The thing about Catcher in the Rye is that, well, it is not a YA book. It gets pushed as such, which is a shame. It's a bigger shame that it also is pushed as absolutely life changing. The simple fact of the matter is that without further life experience to give it reference, the underlying trauma Holden is suffering will go unnoticed. You see an a angsty teenager rather than a lost kid that does not know how to but must deal with the death of his brother. And that's a major problem with having a literary canon or "must - read" list. Many are compelled to read what they are not ready for and, as a result, what they can not appreciate or enjoy. Another major problem is the deification of books or authors. The Catcher in the Rye is not the authoritative literary representation of adolescent trauma, even if it is a masterful one. Shakespeare is not the pinnacle of accomplishment with English compositions. There will always be other masterful works.
  4. Gasp! You mean a Guardian film sequel feels like...a Guardian film sequel?! @Left Same here. The plan is to wake up early for Free Comic Book Day and see it in the afternoon.
  5. Got to get some beauty sleep so I can vote against a school levy tomorrow. They say it's for capital projects such as building maintenance, but if you look at the pages that support it, it's all about building new football stadiums with astroturf. In other words, they are lying about "not wanting to pull money out of the operational budget for use in capital projects" because that is what they are going to do after they send all the levy money for the next few years on sports. Storm them, I won't have any of it!
  6. @Sunbird @Quiver @TwiLyghtSansSparkles I think It's a good sign! It means people expect it to be a good movie!
  7. No small feat with all this crushing, student loan debt!
  8. Do it! The worst that can happen is that she will contact the Mongolian mafia who will then kidnap you and have you perform hard labor in the sulfite mines southeast of Samarkand.
  9. How can this be?! You have never met me in real life!
  10. @Sunbird I do seem to be the only one who posts comics from Channelate! Though @TwiLyghtSansSparkles did post one she saw on Facebook once...
  11. Are you implying that, by default, cosmere fans are not pretty?!
  12. I honestly will not give it the time of day. Wit is fairly subjective (except for Oscar Wilde. He is objectively witty) and I don't want to start a trilogy that will never be finished.
  13. @Mestiv Is correct, @Delightfully Smoak. No need to conjure up more problems when you have to focus on getting healthier!
  14. And now, for a Corn Rebuttal: Both Frozen & Tangled are "meh." They are both pretty by the numbers, they both take little to no risk and their biggest strength is that everything beforehand was slightly more "meh" due to various princess tropes. If plot in Disney movies continues to become more varied, I imagine future generations will find Frozen and Tangled to be "just fine." Of course, that's the point of Disney movies. They are mostly well-crafted popcorn movies deigned to entertain as many people as possible. Will Disney movies ever be more than that? They'll make some experimental stuff, and it won't make money so it will be far and in between (take Fantasia, which Walt hoped would have regular installments. The financial gains on it made such a project unfeasible).
  15. That's only if they finish their next books! Since they won't, it really does not matter how many times you reincarnate
  16. Nah, they just see the mark of sin that mars everything we post!
  17. My rebuttal: https://aeon.co/essays/your-brain-does-not-process-information-and-it-is-not-a-computer
  18. I'm pretty good roasted and covered in butter!
  19. That works so much better, let's go with that!
  20. To answer your question, I would have to decide what you are actually referring to: the use of the reference itself or Pink Floyd's The Wall. In the later case, it's suppose to be unsettling imagery. To go further then that would require some familiarity with the album/ movie. As far as the first... perhaps @Oversleep is right: Jokes aside, I just wanted to post a gif of marching hammers. @Mestiv becoming a moderator (along with a few others) was a convenient excuse since some corners of the internet refer to moderating as "bringing out the mallet" or hammer. A very tenuous connection.
  21. @Mestiv is a moderator now? Well... there goes the neighborhood!
