worldbuilding Cosmere City: Worldbuilding thread
Unodus replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in Inactive RPs
Tusurker Neothused is a willshaper from roshar, who instead of abandoning his shardblade and shardplate on the Day of Recreance- instead took them with him as he escaped the planet to try and outrun his troubles. Despite breaking his pact, Tusurker begrudgingly vowed to return in order to fulfill his oath in order to save his spren from certain death. After a lifetime of running, Tusurker discovered the Cosmere City- an outpost for people across the universe. Amazed by his discovery, Tusurker quickly immersed himself with the locals- getting to know its inhabitants, and doing odd jobs using his powers for quick cash. He's been living in the city for about three years. Tusurker wears a long dark green cloak over his white shardplate, and uses a red bandana to hold back his long black hair. His spren is called Etne, who takes the form form of a ghostly white rabbit- and he has taken his five "oaths" through him. Although, they were not really oaths- more changes to himself that he had to recognize or manipulate in order to grasp his true self, the same way a lightweaver needs to overcome their inner darkness in order to use their powers. Tusurker is a master at manipulating the surges of transportation and cohesion. That's all you need to know for now, see ya'll Monday ^-^ -

Unodus replied to Kestrel's topic in Inactive RPs
Is everyone ok with my next post? I don't mind editing it if people want to put in how they're character really would have reacted :V Also- Eowyn, would you mind if I borrowed yours/winters metallurgist sidecharacter? My explanation for the attack was going to be that Jon was looking for more mistings to add to his array of disciples to make his act more convincing, and that the metallurgist was secretly reporting to Jons men every time a new misting was approved- so that they could be captured and taken to Jon, and force the new misting into becoming one of his "disciples". The details are still pretty flexible, but interrogating the metallurgist would be a nice first lead- and it would be perfect if you wanted to immerse your other character into the story. Any problem with that...? :B -

Kherstor was already drawing upon his metalmind once more when he heard the gunshots ring out. Finner had run on ahead without a second thought, down the street- how naive. "Finner!" Kherstor shouted, trying to keep up "Rust and Ruin... You're going to fast for me...! Slow down!" It was already too late though, Finner probably couldn't hear him because his sensitive tin ears were recoiling from the short stabs of sound of the gunshots. As Finner raced ahead, Kherstor noted a row of stalls selling various spices on this street. Unable to contain his grinning any longer, Kherstor leaped from the street and raced up a set of crates onto the top of a series of stalls. Ignoring the protests of the shopkeepers, Kherstor pulled himself up and jumped onto the rickety roof of the building the stall was connected to. From this lofty vantage point, Kherstor would be able to analyse the entire skirmish from above- and apply support where necessary. Whoever these attackers were, Kherstor couldn't care less- the thrill of drawing zinc had taken hold. Giddying energy filled him, threatening to consume him if he stopped moving; so he began to sprint to where the gunshots were coming from- the next corner. Keeping an eye on Finner below, Kherstor pegged across the old roofs of Callingfale- using his enhanced thought processing to analyse for any dodgy parts of the roof and calculate more appropriate paths. Thankfully, the houses were built in a single row- meaning Kherstor didn't have to leap from building to building like a madman. Not that he wouldn't have if the roof wasn't as it was, mind. Even though Kherstor was slower than Finner, taking the roofs was less distance than going around the corner- so Kherstor was able to arrive at the scene just as Finner had taken cover behind the building which intersected with the next street where the commotion was happening. What he saw from his vantage nearly stopped him in his tracks. Over at least twenty vagabonds with guns and wearing handkerchiefs over their mouths to hide their faces swarmed the street, with little care for civilians. Twenty people was a lot for a small town like Callingfale- no way were they all locals. These... "people"... Attacking in broad daylight, in the middle of street, with no obvious target... It made no sense. Scanning the scene one more time, Kherstor noticed signs of allomancy being used- and a vicious teeth filled grin spread across his face as he burned chromium towards the crowd. Not caring about friend or foe, just reaching out to snuff out any reserves in the crowd- Kherstor waved his arm, and the reserves were gone. A few cries erupted from the street as the attackers arrogant abuse of their god-like powers dissipated. Quickly pulling out another bead of chromium and swallowing it like a pill, Kherstor drew his slender revolver and pulled back the hammer. Suddenly confronted without their powers, some of the attackers scattered in random directions, not sure what had just happened. The majority seemed unfazed though- and despite their sudden lack of allomancy, they still had their guns, which meant they were still a threat. Kherstor loosed three bullets into the crowd in quick succession- each one finding a spot on a bandit, enough to cripple but not kill. When drawing zinc, Kherstors aim was impeccable- but he was a bounty hunter, not a killer, and he only had so many bullets. Now that the rogues knew where he was, Kherstor took cover to avoid a spray of artillery from the panicking rioters. Kherstor looked deeper into the scene, tried to pinpoint what they were after. No wealthy benefactors or expensive jewelry in sight, so what did they want? Peeking his head up, he could see that the street side he was on had two horses on it- both with lawkeepers on them- and a girl caught by surprise at their side, gripping onto an allomatic vial as if her life depended of it. In front of them, a man duel wielding pistols was suppressing the bandits from them- but the bandits were clearly aiming for them. Suddenly, all the pieces seemed to slide into place- and the answer became clear. The girl had a box with an allomatic mark on the lock in her other hand, a sign of a recently approved misting- given a set of flasks from the local metallurgist to commemorate her new place in society, it was a tradition that held strong even in the roughs. These attackers had to have been Jons men, only his wide influence could organize a heist this large in the roughs- there weren't any other crime leaders in the area who would pull off a stunt like this. It was so obvious now, this wasn't a random attack- it was a recruitment mission. Seeing a rascal who had snuck behind the peculiar party, raising his hands as if to grab the young girl- Kherstor lept from the roof and onto the grunt. The impact winded Kherstor, but he had managed to land feet first onto the attackers head- knocking the attacker out instantly. Without another thought, Kherstor turned to the lawkeepers on their horses and shouted over the sound of the gunshots- "Hurry, you must get this girl out of here, she is who they are after- quick, get her on your horse and go!" After an initial pause of shock, the group sprung into motion "Once this racket has died down, come meet me at the Iron Inn- I can explain what is happening then, but for now you must ride away before these men capture her!". Kherstor released his final 3 bullets down the street- each one felling its target. Slightly giddy from vertigo, Kherstor took off his hat and gave a slight bow "Name's Kherstor, by the way. Can you get your horse around that corner? My partner should be around there, he should be able to slow down anyone chasing you long enough for ya'll to get away." -
Thanks! ^-^ Although, it does seem like there is something deeper here...

Huh? If the Cosmere is completely separate from earth- why does roshar have earthly animals? (ie: Horses, Rabbits, Lions, Chickens, etc). The way they're usually referred to from mythology, and the fact that they are completely unrelated to the usual roshar crostacion wildlife would suggest that they originated from Earth (Or at least, an earth-like planet), right? Do you still have the link to that specific WoB, if you don't mind me asking? :V

Btw, if Ventures riot is going to be an issue- perhaps Kherstor would be best to pacify the situation? Given that he can nullify allomancers with chromium, which we already know are among the ambushers- that would in turn cause the attackers to panic and scatter. It would be a good way to have all our characters gathered in one place so that they can introduce each other to each other, and we could embed the sudden attack as a mystery to be explored further in the plot- I feel that would be better than just erasing the incident entirely. Does anyone else have an opinion on the matter? Obviously, we should be more open in creating such events in the future- but we may as well make the most of it, since its there- right? Waiting? But you haven't posted anything yet, though? :V I don't mind helping you into the story though, if that's what you're asking- given that Kherstor can recognize most criminals from their bountys. -
Alloy of Law era Mistborn rp [Planning+Characters]
Unodus replied to Kestrel's topic in Inactive RPs
Well, if you need a main plot, Lark- what if all the characters were competing to capture "Jon the mistborn" for the ridiculous bounty? We could do it in segments, each "team" races to capture the most "Disciples" before exposing and turning in Jon and his gang for the huge reward. What I was planning was that each "disciple" would be at a separate location- and would require careful planning and strategy in order to capture that specific disciple (Similar to the Wheel of Time, where in the earlier books- each forsaken acts to their own ends, and are gradually taken down one at a time). We could have each "team" interact in competition, trying to capture more disciples than the others in order to be the first to find Jon. Of course, this would be a very long term goal- as each character has their own priorities to focus on primarily as well. That's the bare bones of the idea we could use, obviously I can expand on it if people are interested :3 -

Kherstor turned back to face Finner- one hand on the door of the sheriffs office, other hand taking the bag off his shoulder. "The very best kind at taking down Misting scoundrels, partner" Kherstor replied cheerfully. "Come on in, I'll show you after I check in", he added- pushing open the door to the sheriffs office. Finners expression was grave, Kherstor noted- had he been trying to avoid this place? As Kherstor entered the room, he tapped his metalmind to try and figure out what the problem was. The answer was obvious from first glance, however. The room stank of alcohol, papers were casually strewn across every visible surface that wasn't the floor, and the sheriff was standing in the center- shaking hands with one of a group of gentlemen, all laughing smugly. Kherstor didn't need the zinc to recognize the three from their wanted posters. "They're not mistings, not worth my time..." Kherstor muttered, scowling darkly. He hated letting criminals go, but what was the point of catching them if the sheriff was on their side? The cost of sending them to another village would be more than the bounty was worth, so why bother? Kherstor looked around a bit more. The room was divided into two halves- one with the sheriffs desk on it, the other with two large bulletin boards on them, and there was a door at the back of the room leading to the jails; all full, Kherstor noted- but he didn't recognize most of the criminals in them. Kherstor hoped it was because there was more cut-purses here worthy of an imprisonment sentence than he anticipated, but it was a vain hope. He forced a smile and a polite greeting at the outlaws as they walked past him and out of the building. It was always frustrating when imprisonment was lousy, made the whole job of bounty hunting pointless- but at the end of the day, it meant he never ran out of criminals to catch. "Not my problem" he thought coldly to himself, and noticing Finner staring at him analytically through his sleepy facade- Kherstor regained his composure, and offered his own hand to the sheriff. "Good to meet you, Sheriff. My name is Kherstor Suteruduen, and I'm sure you know Finner- we'll be working together on this case. We're hunting for the Outlaw: Jon the Mistborn, I figure we'd check in before getting started- so you know where we are and just in case you have anything you could share with us about his case" "Jon the mistborn?" The Sheriff cackled through his thick mustache, "That's just urban legend, boy- the bounty is just a formality! Even my Grand-kids know that there haven't been any mistborn outside of the old story's! Sorry pal- but there is no Jon, don't let the size of the bounty blind you; we've all made that mistake before, eh?" The sheriff laughed loudly, but neither Finner or Kherstor joined him. Kherstor had to veil a smile though, if the sheriff still believed Jon was a legend- then he and Finner would have no competition bringing Jon in. Or rather, them in. Kherstor had been hunting Jon for months, but every time he ever got close- he lost his tracks. Not only was Jons bounty about eight-fold a usual bounty, but capturing Jon would also bring in a huge boost in Kherstors prestige among the bounty hunter ranks- and he could use that reputation for his future jobs. Jon was a travelling entertainer, claiming to be a legendary mistborn- and would kill individuals in private for no apparent reason, earning him his bounty. That was what all the public knew, and most people would dismiss his existence as a story designed to scare children- but Kherstor had managed to work out the truth over the months. The rumors always spoke of Jons "disciples", which left only one rational conclusion. Jon was actually just a regular pewter arm, while his disciples were mistings who would preform the other allomatic arts while Jon pretended to- so it seemed like Jon was preforming all of them. It was so simple, even the odd commoner would have worked it out. And they did, if it weren't for them- perhaps Jon wouldn't have a bounty. Jons crew was a simple bunch, and if anyone ever confronted them about the truth- they would kill the offender in private, to ensure the truth didn't get out. Obviously, being a legend must have payed very well. After Kherstor had worked that out, he realized he couldn't do the job alone- tracking over ten people who could be anyone was not his specialty, that was when he had presented his theory to Finner and offered a partnership. Finner was a respectable tracker, and combined with Kherstors ability to render mistings powerless- capturing Jon would be all too easy. They knew he was around Callingfale, but given he traveled around- he could be anywhere in the city. Kherstor spoke again briskly once the sheriff had stopped laughing, "I assure you, we can bring Jon the mistborn to justice- you just worry about your own criminals". Looking down at the sheriffs expensive shoes and coat- Kherstor added snarly, "Or rather, just worry about your own skin- I'd hate to have to hunt down a former sheriff caught taking any... Frivolous gifts..." Leaving the Sheriff spluttering, Kherstor let go of the metalmind- glanced over the bulletins, and walked out of the building. Finner followed, never leaving his apathetic state. "Alright, now that that's out of the way- can you take me to a local inn? I don't trust myself to open this bag unless we have absolute privacy. I was hoping the sheriffs office would be enough, but it appears I was mistaken..." Kherstor grumbled as they walked away from the office, and then added "Also, its getting late- we should probably call it a day soon, when we can. It would make sense to have a good nights rest now, then start the hunt in the morning- agreed?" -

Btw- Lady Eowyn, is there a particular reason why Finner doesn't like the Sheriffs Office- or should I introduce one now? If the Sherrifs office is corrupt or anything, introducing that in the introduction of the office would be most effective- unless Finners grudge is for personal reasons? Just thought I'd ask in case it was important to your character :B -

Finner lead Khurstor into the dusty street- staying in parallel in distance to the sheriff office, Khurstor noted- not getting any closer, or moving any further from it, as if some invisible force was stopping them from getting any closer. "Well, if I'm Ironteeth-", Khurstor thought to himself as they walked, "then that must make you a drink-savant, with the way you can't put down that flask...". Khurster caught himself before he chuckled out loud at the notion. Any passerby would think he was crazy- the way he was grinning like he'd just discovered the lord rulers legendary atium cache. Rust, but it wasn't every day he got to see the furthest outpost of the roughs. Even if he had to shoot through the toes of every passerby in the city, Khurstor was pretty sure that there was nothing that could ruin this day for him. Hopefully. The bakery came it to view, a robust brick building standing out among the tall wooden ones. A sign with the picture of an oven on it leaned out onto the street, hanging just above the doorway. The smell coming from inside was questionable at best, unfortunately. "Have you ever tried a Locha? Its the towns specialty, cheap as rust" Finner said, swaying slightly. Was he drunk, or storing into his metalmind? Khurstor itched to know what was in that flask, but restrained himself from asking. "Well, I'll try anything once" Khurstor responded as they walked in, and looked at the wall of a man behind the counter, who must have been the baker. Balding, with stained teeth and stained apron- he shouted out in a rough accent that Khurstor couldn't quite interpret, and Finner shouted something back at him in the same dialect while raising two outstretched fingers. The man sniffed loudly and nodded, and turned back to his work. "Don't worry, you'll pick up the "language" here quick" Finner reassured, seeing Khurstors confusion- "Once you get in the flow of things here, it comes naturally." Khurstor only nodded, his focus was on the baker. Instead of using the roaring oven that was lighting the room, he poured a thick sauce onto a hot plate that was next to him and started frying the paste. Within the minute, a thin pancake had formed on the plates surface- and the baker peeled it off. Spreading some unidentifiable meat paste, spices, and a few odd vegetables on top of the pancake- the baker reached into a bag under the counter and threw in a thick wafer into the mix. With brutal efficiency, the baker took a knife and peeled the pancake off the hotplate and folded it into a tight square "bag" of all the ingredients in one swift movement. As it cooled, the edges of the pancake that were still slightly gooey stuck together- sealing the bag. The baker handed it over, and Finner quickly snatched it out of his grip before Khurstor could react. "What? I'm hungry, you can eat the next one" he complained as he started to eat it. Even as he was saying that, the baker was already halfway through making another pancake. How did he make it so fast? Watching the baker reminded him more of someone playing an instrument rather than someone just cooking. Khurstor took the Locha when it was done, and reached into his bag for his wallet. "Fvaure" the baker pronounced heavily, showing four fingers- so Khurstor pulled out four boxings, but the baker only shook his head irritably. "Four clips, not four boxings- Ironteeth." Finner sighed. "Four clips? That can't be right, I've payed more than that just for metal shavings!" Khurstor protested, but Finner continued to stare at him till he shrugged and handed over the clips. It was a wonder anyone stole anything when it only cost four clips for a pancake. He took the Locha, and had a bite- the wafer was a little salty for his taste, but combined with the oily pancake and the flavor of some smoky alien meat- it was all he could have wished for after such a long tasteless journey. The next second, all he wished for was a pint of something cold- that sauce was spicy enough to make even a Pewterarm cringe. Khurstor gagged violently in surprise, causing Vinner to erupt with laughter- he was apparently unaffected by the sauce. "Sorry, forgot to warn you" He managed, after regaining his composure. "No wonder you always carry that flask with you, if this is what you eat all day!" joked Khurstor, smiling and taking a smaller bite. Waving at the baker, they walked back into the street. The sun was even lower now, the street was almost empty. Khurstor spoke and ate while he walked. "Ok, lets start making our way to the sheriffs office- if we don't start going now, it'll be sunset before we've even started" Khurstor said soberly, nibbling the Locha, "Besides, I've got some new equipment from the south you might be interested in..." He indicated subtly to the bag, while it wasn't overly suspicious- it was rather big for just one persons belongings. The new gear had been heavy, but it had been worth the extra effort- considering no misting criminals knew of it.That kind of element of surprise only made it even more brutally effective. -

Kherstor grinded his teeth, of course the lawkeeper with enhanced senses would come running at the sound of a gunshot- how careless it had been to use the gun so recklessly. Kherstor quickly flicked his long green coat over his holster, and readjusted his hat. Finner may be his partner for now, but he was still a lawkeeper- and the law didn't approve of shooting people in the foot much. "Finner! What a coincidence, I was making my way to the Sheriffs Office now- though I thought I'd just quickly introduce myself to the locals before we got too busy. After all, with both of us on the job- this case will be over as quick as walking through a park, who knows when I'll have the chance to get this far into the roughs again?" Kherstor shot a friendly grin, but Finners face never changed. His expression was a little too intense, was he tapping his bronze for an adrenaline rush? Well, two could play at that game. Kherstor, begun to speak again- but before he did, tapped his concealed zinc metalmind once more. Immediately, the signs leaped out in front of him. In one of Finners hand, a steaming pasty. Steaming. Usually, that kind of detail would brush past any other human, but not a Sparker. His other hand was hanging off the lapel of his leather vest. The hip flask was hanging on his belt. The hat, pulled just low enough so that Kherstor could make out those searching eyes. It all sorted in front of him, twisting to form new information. Finner didn't smell of kitchen, yet that pasty could have only been taken out of an oven just now. Why was his other hand on his lapel, and not the flask? When they first met, he couldn't go a few moments without reaching for it. The hat, pulled just low enough so that Kherstor could make out those searching eyes. "You..." Finner couldn't have gotten a pasty unless he was already running when he grabbed it. Finner wouldn't have wasted time buying a pasty if he came running at the sound of a gunshot. He had to have taken it en route, but he didn't pay for it. He stole it. But he was also a lawkeeper. He was reaching for his lapel because there was something more important there than his flask. The hat, pulled just low enough so that Kherstor could make out those searching eyes. Kherstor smiled, and let go of the zinc. "... going to shoot me or what?" Those searching eyes widened with surprise. "I didn't kill him, if that's what you think. Just taught him a lesson he won't forget- I probably just saved a few lives." Finner was tensing, but his hand on his lapel dropped. So he was reaching for something. "If you're hungry, I can just buy you some food. No need to rush, right?" That seemed to work, Finners expression visibly lightened at the prospect. Kherstor couldn't help smiling smugly again, he tried to make it look like it was meant to be friendly. "Lead the way, partner." he smiled- showing a row of white teeth, dotted with a few metal ones. -
