  1. Yay! That's why I put it in my sig: shameless self-promotion...er, I mean, to make sure it's findable for people who might be interested. And thank you! Yes, you may absolutely use it. I originally wrote it up for a Unitarian Universalist children's lesson; it was meant to be shared.
  2. Heh. They're sort of weird beasties, and usually only people with some level of Sensitivity can spot them or catch their attention. You generally don't want to be that person. Unless you're me, and then it's the beasties that duck and run. Yes. Placing your stamp on a home, claiming it as yours - that sort of primes the space to accept you. Putting your own energies in starts building up a shield of sorts.
  3. You may not find much on them. Most of what I've heard are firsthand accounts, not stuff that's made it into the urban legend sphere. You're not doomed, you just need your own place. And once you get a place, there are ways to kick-start and strengthen things. White sage, dragonsblood incense, wind chimes near any outside doors, religious symbols (any will do, so long as you have faith in them) on the walls...
  4. Depending on the alloy used and how thick the coating is, though, that may not necessarily be a hard and fast thing; it may just be that they haven't figured out how to do it yet. I mean, we have modern handguns with a plastic casing to them, but metal workings. I could easily see that sort of design being adapted for an aluminum case replacing the plastic.
  5. I...know a few things. Or I think I know a few things. I could be completely delusional. XD But the black-eyed kids don't worry me so much as the shark-mouthed weirdos that I've heard of people running into. Threshold magic. Morzathoth referenced Dresden Files, but it's really a theory that pervades the pagan spheres. Basically, a person's home is charged with their own sort of protection magic; the stronger a sense of home and family, the stronger the protection is.
  6. Dangit, Microsoft! No, Excel has not stopped working! I closed the document. argh
  7. Urban legend or actual menace? Only those who have seen them know!
  8. Going to see Deadpool tonight for the second time.

  9. Well, that escalated quickly.
  10. ThirdGen has not yet seen Deadpool. He figured out today that just saying a particular name can send me into gigglefits. Today is going to be a long day. If you think they'll take it well, let your employer know you're looking when you actually start. There's no real reason to say, "I think I might do this," if there's any chance that it might not happen or be delayed. But if you've got a good relationship with your boss, it's good idea to give him a heads-up, especially if place are likely to start calling him for a reference.
  11. Phoenix is a bit better for things to do, but it's a good 2-hour drive away from you. The zoo is good, and the museum of science and technology - I loved going to both of those when I was a kid. Or if you really feel ambitious, you can go wandering out in the desert and possibly die go search for the Lost Dutchman's gold mine! That's too bad; it really is an impressively huge hole in the ground. I've been there three times, and spotted it from an airplane as well.
  12. A...a "Catholic heathen"? Does she not understand the definition of those two words are sort of mutually exclusive? How about having her solve the problem of still owing you money for your brother's plane ticket? I approve of Contentious Orlion.
  13. Yes. You. CAN. You will not let this woman ruin your life. Because that's what she's trying to do; destroy everything you're trying to build so that you'll be dependent on her forever and she can lord it over you until the end of her days. You will not let her win. You will be TwiLyght Triumphant, you will take this job and rock everyone's socks off, and you will live in the cool city that you so badly want to live in. Whatever it takes, I've got your back in this. Need to pour your heart out via PM? Hit me. Need someone to talk you down from giving up? I'll give you my phone number. Need a place to fall back on if this burns a bunch of bridges with your family? Let me teach you about this little concept called a Family of Choice. Because I am absolutely done with your mother's crap, and I am willing to throw whatever safety net you need behind you to keep you from letting her win.
  14. That woman. There are so many things I want to say about her, and none of them are remotely appropriate to say here.
  15. I think I remember a tweet from him saying that he'd spent about a third of the year on tour or at conventions.
  16. People grow and change at different rates and in different directions; it's a natural part of life, albeit a painful one. It's still possible to maintain friendships with people who have vastly diverging interests from yours, but with that comes the probability of spending less time with them just because you like to do different things.
  17. It's a big country. The poor man can't be traveling all the time or else he'd never get much writing done! Nevermind the whole spending time with his family thing.
  18. On occasion, but we're lucky to get him once a year. He was here last spring for ConQuest; he'll be in town again for WorldCon. And I'll be getting another opportunity to bother him 'cause I'm going to Atlanta for JordanCon.
  19. Doo eet. (You darned lucky Utahans and your proximity to Brandon to pester him with questions for the rest of us.)
  20. Season 3 of Hemlock Grove: only three eps in, but it continues to be every bit as mind-bruisingly weird and terrible as the first two seasons. If I didn't have cosplay scale mail to work on, I probably wouldn't be watching it, but I do, so I am. And I kind of adore Shelley, so there's that.
  21. From what I picked out of how it works, the different types of Investiture mess with each other. The reason you can't make a medallion with more than 2 or 3 powers is because they clash with each other and the entire thing fails. Which, of course, begs the question of how the Bands of Mourning work. My guess there is that it really was Rashek's original bracer set that Kelsier somehow tracked down and reforged into a spearhead. Which would mean that to make something like this work with a bunch of different powers, you have to be a Mistborn/Full Feruchemist/Fullborn to imprint the template of all the different Investiture types working together.
  22. Noooo broken spoiler tags noooooooo
  23. Just watch the whole thing, from the very start of the opening credits to the stinger at the end. There are jokes everywhere.
  24. We'll make a pony fan out of you yet. You should. That much laughing will definitely take down your stress levels. So you should see it for the good of your health.
  25. Hee. I'm pretty sure that just contemplating seeing this movie qualifies as full-on rebellion for you. I will spoil nothing, but I will say that this movie was the closest in spirit to its source comics of any comic-based move ever.
