  1. And by sticking with the New Orleans job, you're secretly telling her that you hate your family and want to be rid of them. ...nevermind that this is, at least, partially true.
  2. I am >thisclose< to skipping our local costuming convention to go JordanCon instead. I haven't bought any memberships yet. I could do it. Also, the friends who introduced me to Sanderson are going and keep trying to tempt me into it.
  3. Come find us on the Social Groups, Clans, and Guilds board and post asking to join. Morzathoth will add you to the roster.
  4. That was almost as epic as the Dark Alley's standard disclaimer.
  5. I was wondering how long it'd take someone to make that joke.
  6. You can do this! You did it for Iowa, you can do it here! Get down with your bad self! (And seriously, if JPL hated you, they wouldn't have hired you. The brain weasels are back!)
  7. As High Priestess of the Church of Wayne, it is my solemn duty to seek out ridiculous ideas about what things Wayne can do.
  8. Electrum would work just fine. Tan would have "seen" himself fall back dead a split second before it happened, and pulled Lessie into the line of sight. And there's no way Wax could have seen anything if Tan was burning electrum. It shows you your own future, whereas atium shows you that of other people. But in both cases, *you* have to be the one burning the metal.
  9. I think it's more likely that Bloody Tan was an agent of Trell - his weird serial killer stuff reeks to me of Hemalurgy study. Trell had to figure out how to use those weird godmetal spikes. Brandon has said that Tan wasn't an atium misting, but I don't think anyone's asked him if he was actually spiked for atium or (more likely) electrum. I think Tan spiked Paalm before she was "killed" to get Trell into her head.
  10. I'm starting to wonder if Wayne's Twinborn "effect" is a weird reality-warp that causes books from our universe to drop into his pocket. What can I say? Time bubbles are strange.
  11. Not much longer...soon. Soon, you will taste true freedom.
  12. Actually, it's pretty explicitly stated in the book by TenSoon that Harmony did not take control of her. He pressured her hard, yes, but he did not take her over. It wasn't until she went full-on mass murderer that this became a viable option for Harmony.
  13. To an extent, but that's a lot of fabric that's just gonna get in the way, and it's easy for a flute to slip out of a person's grip due to its size. There's a reason we all had to cut the fingertips out of our uniform gloves in marching band.
  14. That would make for a very limited number of notes that an individual instrument can play.
  15. I have been known to use algebra in my daily life. I usually cackle softly to myself, or else point out to the people around me that I am, indeed, using algebra and it's useful! ...and no comment about my workplace.
  16. I'm not a lefty, but both of my parents are, which makes me more apt to pay attention to these things. It's really harsh when you factor in the fact that lighteyed "womanly" arts are things like scholarship and artistry, things that depend heavily on being able to use your hand(s) for things like writing or drawing. (And...how in the heck do they manage musicianship? They're playing flutes, for crying out loud! You can't do that one-handed!)
  17. DresdenFilesDresdenFilesDresdenFiles...
  18. Plus there's the fact that Preservation was actually using atium to siphon away Ruin's extra power. It was in the interest of that plan to keep the power recycling through the system so that it wouldn't return to Ruin.
  19. You underestimate the power of US government bureaucrats. The decision-maker would be someone removed enough from the situation that they literally give zero craps about any of the people involved. The people who do care aren't allowed to break the rules, even if the rules are stupid. Actually, especially if the rules are stupid...
  20. Or a mistwraith without Blessings. Kelsier might've found a way to stick his own cognitive shadow into that eyespike. It's weird and convoluted, but it's my theory for now.
  21. Welcome to the Shard, where social equality is a common interest. ...don't get me started about the plight of left-handed lighteyed women.
  22. Wait...did...did your mother actually just say something that made sense? I am so confused. But yeah, I've never received an offer letter for anything, and I work for super-big-crazy Redacted, Inc. So I think you're fine. Don't get me wrong, it's completely dumb that they can't assign a local-to-you drug testing company to your case, but it's not surprising given government red tape is a thing that exists.
  23. Keep in mind that this is a public library - the government has all sorts of weird legal red tape hoops that they make their people jump through. If they say they can't furnish a letter, it's probably because there's some state or local halfwit with a red tape gun who has told them that they can't. They don't have to make sense. They're the gubbermint. ETA: Just don't let your family sneak you any poppy seed muffins between now and then.
  24. You STILL owe me pictures of this.
  25. It is still in effect, and they're not even allowed in spoiler tags right now outside the subforum.
