  1. Ugh, my brain is being drained by all this training document stuff. Rewriting all the things. There's this annotation function in Microsoft Word that lets you make comments on things that won't make it into the final document. Only the training & documentation team will see them. So I've started making them entertaining. Nothing major, just stuff that makes an otherwise dry process go a little smoother. Except for one thing. I...might've written a limerick about fonts and snuck it into one of the documents. ...I blame Brandon Sanderson.
  2. I was 11 in sixth, and some of this stuff kept going into junior high. So, yeah, about the same age. Mind you, none of this was good. Yes, it kept me from being bored, but it was a symptom of a failure on the school's part. I should have been in an accelerated learning program, but the school didn't have the resources to accommodate that. So I slacked off and breezed through. And got used to breezing through, all the way through high school, such that by the time I started college I had absolutely no idea how to study. I'd never had to do it before.
  3. I am just gonna leave this right here... Current in-progress work. Full D&D-style armor for a Jean Grey costume. Because male or female, spandex is stupid.
  4. I must admit, I find the idea of leadership being a "masculine" trait to be rather problematic. This is why we have some of the workplace gender inequality issues that we do. A man taking charge is considered being a leader. A woman doing exactly the same thing is called "bossy" and a few other words that won't make it past the profanity filter.
  5. Ooo! Does this mean it's longer than AoL? Pleeeease?
  6. Scroll up to the top, click on the correct radio button, and then click submit.
  7. Aha! Another one! There are seven of us now. Soon, soon we shall take over the world... EDIT: No, wait, 8! You haven't voted in the poll.
  8. It's just about enough to make me never want to use the word "chagrin" in my writing. Dear gods. I've read just enough excerpts of that monstrosity to recognize this all as a work of comic genius.
  9. I don't remember that much from so early in elementary school, but I remember that in sixth I started the bad habit of sneaking a book under my desk when I got bored. One teacher for a while would try and catch me out with questions, but I always knew the answers. She told me many, many years later that she finally just threw up her hands and gave up and let me get away with it because she knew that I knew the material. I was really bored in sixth grade.
  10. Oh, they totally did. Melville just disagreed vehemently, and used Moby Dick as a platform to spout his fishy opinion to the world.
  11. Yeah, that's about how Dragon*Con's gotten over on this side of the pond. Too many people; that's why I stopped going. When you're fudging your numbers down to keep the fire marshals from having a collective stroke, you might want to start considering capping membership. WorldCon is major, but not nearly as ridiculously BIG as things like D*C and SDCC
  12. They're fun. Admittedly, WorldCon is rather expensive (though I believe that they're going to have lower non-voting memberships available later), but it's kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing to have it in my home city, so I'm excited. You know that I'll be cosplaying the heck out of that con. My armored Jean Grey outfit will definitely be ready, and I'll have my Zelda: Warrior Princess costume to wear, too. And I'll probably have a cosplay done for Eva by then. Possibly two. (I have some ideas for a quick-change ballgown that has a skirt release. Eva would be exactly the sort of person to wear a crinolined skirt specifically because of the sheer amount of weaponry one can stash under there.)
  13. Hah, mind the upvote. Silly Quiver. If anyone else needs anything shrunk, I have a dozen-year-old version of Photoshop and I'm not afraid to use it!
  14. Simm's portrayal was pretty good. But as ThirdGen and I were discussing amongst ourselves yesterday, Missy is coming across more as an overdone RPG character. "Oh, hai, I'm a Malkavian powergamer!"
  15. I'd put Wax as probably Lawful Good myself. He's definitely on the Good end of the alignment scale. Wayne is mostly Chaotic Good, with the occasional lapse into Chaotic Neutral, because pickles.
  16. Someplace in the Midwest, so that you can easily go to WorldCon next year. I want lots of Sharders to come to WorldCon so that we can have a midwestern meet-up.
  17. Dangit, magical +# against undead sword, GLOW GREEN already!
  18. Go Linux instead of Mac, save money, buy books.
  19. I don't know, I'm honestly kind of over the "Hi, I'm crazypants!" version of Missy/the Master that we saw start during Ten's tenure. I miss the Delgado/Ainley portrayal. Sure, he was ruthless, and totally evil, but the mad dancing and singing deathdeathdeath portrayal is getting a bit tiresome.
  20. Well, we know from some oblique answers to questions that Something was influencing Miles - presumably the same Something that sent Bloody Tan 'round the bend. The question is what, and how? Is it possible that something out there can hitch onto the same channels that Harmony can use to speak to and/or listen to folks? Sort of a tapping into the godphone, so to speak. The promise of more Wayne shenanigans makes me inordinately gleeful.
  21. Not necessarily. We're not even sure that there's an inhabitable land mass at the north pole. Magnetic north following the Well was more of an accident than anything - it's not like he was trying to pretend that they were in Scadrial's arctic circle. He just wanted the Well hidden where he could keep an eye on it.
  22. I finally wrote stuff in my About Me section! I am no longer a blank!

    1. Quiver

"What are we gonna do? We already called her a blank flank!"

You know, it actually took a conscious effort to spell "endeavors" the American way. I don't know why.

  23. Hey, the Time Lords do have a proven track record of creating sentient technology. This one just looked at them, said, "Dang, you guys are a bunch of gits," and flitted off to create its own tiny pocket of the universe where it could play in peace.
  24. At this rate, they're going to have half the book up online before it's released... (Is that going to stop me from going and reading the next chapter? No. Of course not. There are few among us who can make that sort of willpower save.)
  25. Spoilers! Basically, this episode has done nothing to dissuade me from my headcanon of Adonalsium being a Time Lord artifact.
