  1. Not necessarily... Knowing Kal he'll try to hide his powers for as long as he can... He knows people wouldn't feel too good with knowing he has powers of Radiants who are considered to be traitors of mankind. And I expect Roshone to be busy trying to frame him into being a deserter/runaway slave/thief to feel sorry. Or on the contrary, Roshone would focus on how can he make use of Kaladin's powers to help the village (and possibly also pretend to be a good and caring citylord).
  2. Ok, I must've missed that... I remembered that he's a young child... I mean I assumed he was born before the war started or at the very beginning of it. It's just that I believe that Elhokar went to the Plains and stayed there for good ever since the Pact started and I somehow assumed that Aesudan spent whole this time in Kholinar with her questionable lifestyle. If the child is much younger then one of them would have to visit the other one for obvious reasons. I doubt Elhokar would leave the war, so then Aesudan would have to visit him, but I thought she spent at least few years prior WoR in Kholinar spoiling ardents (this is how I understood that interlude with Pai and older ardent)... Is there any proper quotation or something about Elhokar's son age? I'm just curious because I may really have been mistaken about it.
  3. I don't know enough about Stone Shamans to know how good they're at fighting. With Shin being rather pacifistic society they may not know how to fight. Or maybe on the contrary, they know very well how to use the Honorblades (I'd think so)? I don't know who would win, but of one thing I'm sure - if Szeth kills the Shamans then he has already lost his chance of retribution (at least I perceive it so). As for the battles we may see in Stones Unhallowed... I expect some bloody fighting in Kholinar because of riots and rebellion, possibly with Kaladin arriving in the middle of this and trying to stop the mindless murdering or something like this. I guess we may also see the Stone Shamans arriving in Urithiru to reclaim Jezrien's Honorblade which may lead to a battle (as they'd propably come armed with few other Honorblades). And of course - some fighting against Voidbringers
  4. Oh dear, that's a horrifying prospect He would start by accidentially sticking himself to the ceiling with no-one being able to get him down (with Kaladin absent in Urithiru) or lashing himself in the middle of a whole army of Voidbringers. Or worse - he could lash someone else in the middle of the Voidbringers. He may feel so bad for the poor spren that he will have issues with summoning the blade and therefore put himself into dangerous situations. And yes, he propably will drift away from Renarin and they both will think it's their fault and mope over this (with Kaladin hopefully improving we will need someone to take his part in moping ). Renarin will find out the truth and propably confront his brother about it but ultimately he'll keep quiet to protect Adolin and somebody else will reveal the truth. And Dalinar will be so focused on the Desolation, Radiants and other things (*cough*Navani*cough*) that he won't realise something's going on with his sons until it's too late. As for the Bridge 4 - I don't think Renarin truly joined it, I mean he spends time with them and everything but he doesn't partake in their duties (except from washing dishes). Besides if Adolin is disowned Renarin will be Dalinar's heir and therefore Dalinar will want to teach him how to be a highprince as quickly as he can, which propably won't leave him time to hang out with the bridgemen. I see Adolin really joining them and going on the guard duty to protect his family. Not a highprince's son who tags along but a soldier on the same grounds as the others. I can see him going to Kaladin (who hopefully will be back at the time) and asking him to join his men. At first other bridgemen will be very uncomfortable with him but with time they'll start accepting a lighteye as one of them. I love the idea of Renarin saving Adolin from deadly wound - it's just something those two need. Dalinar could try to patch the cracks (chasms) between him and his firstborn and it will work to an extent but going with my idea of Adolin joining Bridge 4 I think he would insist on staying there. I just can't see how would Adolin reclaim his blade if it was given to Sades (Ialai) as a retribution without causing a civil war or any major arguments. That's why I like the idea of him proclaiming one of the ideals (the second one - kind of like he never spoke the first one aloud but embraced it anyway, I think Brandon suggest somewhere that it's what Dalinar did as he proclaimed only one ideal at the end of WoR) and the Blade coming to him on itself. It would be epic and just imagine Ialai's face when she founds out Well, if we see Roshone as a different kind of person (not a silversmiths'-murderer or surgeon-opressor) then maybe it will make sense... I just can't really imagine Kaladin forgiving him if Roshone doesn't feel at least some remorse over what he did to his family. And even if, Kaladin will struggle to forgive him as it would be very hard for him. And I don't see the fourth ideal as having anything to do with forgiving - I expect it to be connected to the Windrunners' attribute of leading (as the previous two were about protecting). Something along the lines of "I will take the lead when no-one else does" or similair... It could happen in Kholinar while dealing with the riots. I see it kind of like this: Kaladin arrives and tries to find and contact someone connected to Dalinar. He tries to talk to the queen, but we know how she is - she won't listen (even considering that Kal will surgebind his eyes to be blue to have more credibility with high ranked Alethi). Rebellion will be getting worse and worse and there will be no-one to deal with it so Kaladin will have to take charge of them (kind of like he did to Adolin and the officers on the Tower) and try to solve the matter, even though it'll seem impossible or a sure death. Somebody may ask him why he's risking so much to try to save the situation even if the capitol is already in complete chaos and then he will proclaim the fourth ideal. As for Tarah - she may or may not appear. And not necessarily as Kal's love interest but maybe as a trusted friend. We know nothing of her or her personality so I can't say if she fits into my vision or not. I like this scenario Especially the ceremony away from the family but with bridgemen around. But who will do the job of a priest (assuming that the vorin culture needs this kind of person for weddings)? My guess is Sigzil And I already like this daughter. But out of curiosity: why twins? Did I forget something important concernig Adolin/Shallan/both and twins? Is there any potential significance? And the bridgemen will have to babysit those kids By the second half of SA I'd like to also see Kaladin happily married (my current candidate for his wife is Jenet, but it can change possibly when we learn more about Tarah) and having at least one son (who could remind him of Tien... but in a good, happy way not a gloomy way). That kid would have a life... So many doting "uncles" Excuse me while I curl into a ball from laughter imagining Rock tossing Kal's child up and catching them (little kids like this...) while the kid's mother looks at it with horror... And yes, rambling on the possible future of our favourite characters is very fun
  5. Storms, I just imagined this situation... With Kal standing in the background and sharing with Jasnah a look of horror On the more serious note, I'm too lazy and my Internet connection is too slow to quote all the parts I want to reference, so I will just say that my view of Dustbringers/Releasers is in fact very similair to the one presented by maxal. Pretty much exactly the same in fact And therefore I strongly believe that Adolin fits more in this order than the Edgedancers (but I agree, there is also some good evidence to the contrary and I'd totally love to see him revive his Blade). In my opinion Edgedancers were so feared because of their speed and, to use Lift's phrasing, "slickness", which made them much more difficult to hurt. At the same time I have a theory that their ability of Regrowth makes them even better at healing themselves even compared to the other orders (same goes for Truthwatchers). So let's see: nearly impossible to touch and very good at healing theselves - kind of invincible in the eyes of people. I believe I'd fear someone who supposedly cannot be hurt as much as someone who changes the battlefield into a desolation (honestly I kind of see the powers of Dustbringers as some cool mix of Hulk, Smaug and maybe Flash). Adolin does care for others, but while he helps the prostitute he's mostly focused on protecting and helping his family. It's Dalinar, Renarin and so on who he truly deeply cares about, not the "forgotten ones". Yes, he has good heart and helps anyone when he sees they need it, but he doesn't think too much on how can he help people he doesn't know, the lowly ones no-one cares about. But he spends considerable amount of time worrying about those who are close to him, so I don't think he's caring/loving enough to be an Edgedancer. Compare with Lift - she met Gawx the very same day (correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure about it) and doesn't seem to like him too much. He's not her friend or anything, yet she cares, even putting herself in risky position because of Darkness. Adolin helped the protitute, but didn't risk anything doing it. He cares, but not yet on the same level. Bravery is something that causes people to do dangerous or reckless things, but it's also needed to face the consequences of one's doings. I see this in Adolin - he's brave enough to lead his men to fight and to take on the fully-disadvantaged duel (is it what it was called?) even knowing the risks. And I believe him to be brave enough to accept any consequences of Sadeas' murder. And he is obedient too - he never really trusted Sadeas but wasn't openly antagonistic towards him because Dalinar told him to. At first he disliked the Codes and didn't understand their meaning but he still followed them and defended them before the others because of his father. I don't recall anything he did against Dalinar's will (except spending time in the prison with Kaladin, but it's kind of a different situation) so he's very obedient towards his father. That makes him a perfect Dustbringer candidate in my eyes. On the other note, I have a feeling that Dustbringers' attribute is obedience in order to tame their destructive powers - kind of if they weren't somehow watched over/controlled they could cause much damage while still having the best intentions. And besides - there is the matter of Adolin's intuition (his "feelings" about Sadeas, Amaram and Kaladin that all turned out to be true and justified). It seems to be a foreshadowing to him being a Radiant, but I can't quite place such abilities with any of the Orders. Someone has any idea? Or maybe it's just additional ability having nothing to do with any particular Order?
  6. Hobber is seen later on serving the stew so I assumed that he became Rock's assistant (slicing vegetables, serving dishes, etc.). And since the others of the Bridge Four brought him a stump to sit on next to the fire with them I'd assume that they help him with anything he can't do himself (come on, Rock totally could carry him out of the building to the fire). It's sad that so little attention was given to the matter - it's obvious that Hobber struggles but his friends help him, but it would be better if we could see more of it. On the other hand - could Renarin (or Lift later on) heal his legs with Regrowth? Or maybe he can do it himself with stromlight? I totally believe Hobber to be one of Kal's squires, so since Lopen made his arm grow back (or is starting to, I don't remember too well) maybe he can heal his legs?
  7. I guess you're right. But still my first thought when I hear the word anime is big eyes and so on (typicall Japanese kind - but I admit, some of the original manga/anime drawing styles are really cool). As for the format - I agree completely Just not the anime-style
  8. I believe they'll rather keep the honorblade away from everyone - as in locked away not to be used out of fear of it getting in wrong hands. As for the Stone Shamans - I think that their arrival to reclaim the blade could be the climax of the book, them coming armed in other honorblades (or any other possible means of mass destruction - who knows what Shin can do? ) and the new Radiants fighting them in an epic battle. I think that Adolin will try his best to keep it secret, but his guilt will influence his behaviour so much that the truth will be uncovered (Macbeth, anyone?). Before this he will talk more and more with his blade and asking it for its name, knowing that it's a spren. He may or may not offer to set said spren free (which he won't do as he doesn't know how). Dalinar will be forced to fulfill the expectations of Alethkar royalty regarding the punishment for a murderer and he will punish his son, though not with death as others (Ialai) would want. My theory is that he won't be executed or exiled (as Dalinar wants unity), but rather disowned - he will lose his rank, position (go down to 10th dahn) and Shards, as well as kind of thrown out of the family (with Renarin becoming Dalinar's heir). Having lost everything he will want to stay close to his family and protect them, so he'll join Bridge Four (fully as a regular soldier, not like Renarin did), accepting Kaladin's leadership over him and most likely deepening their friendship. Then, after being broken, he'll be on his way to becoming a Releaser (by attracting a spren or awakening the one from his blade - like the bond between them started to form before he had to give up his shards and then the spren comes back to him when he really needs it). Forgive? That depends on what he sees in Hearthstone upon returning. If Roshone kept bullying his parents then I doubt Kaladin will forgive him, unless he somehow redeems himself (which I doubt). But I hope that Kal's past the phase of taking revenge on everyone and won't go against Roshone. Maybe against his authority - something like Kaladin returns to Hearthstone and finds chaos there so he takes charge of everything, Roshone gets angry at the fact that a darkeye is bossing around in his city so Kal tells him that since he's completely incompetent at ruling the village someone else has to do it and if he minds then he can write a complaint to the king (and we know that Elhokar likes his captain of guard so he maybe won't really react, especially if dalinar has any say). You know - Kaladin confronts Roshone but in a civilized way (no duel challenges or demanding justice against him). Or maybe, depending on Roshone's behaviour, Kaladin CAN forgive him, in a forgive-but-never-forget kind of way. Rysn - yes, please! I'm very curious about her fate and about that larkin of hers. Lift - even more yes, please! We need more awesomness and maybe something that foreshadows her meeting with the rest of the Radiant crew (her going to Alethkar, maybe? hoping to steal Elhokar's lunch). Axies - well, he IS interesting. Investigating stormspren is definitely something he would do. Rock - his viewpoint from the time that Kal's away and how the Bridge Four does without him. Or maybe we could get some other bridgeman, like Drehy or Skar? Or maybe Sigzil? Personally, I'd like to see Hobber - struggling with his lack of legs. We could also use Rlain's viewpoint, but with him staying with Bridge Four (I believe him to be one of Kaladin's future squires). Besides: Szeth - I hope we can see his redemption, but he won't achieve that with Naln. But maybe he'll give up on getting revenge on the Stone Shamans and try to do something good instead. My favourite scenario is him meeting Kaladin somewhere (Kholinar?) and warning him about the Shamans. And Kal could go all "what the heck?! I killed you already!" but in the end understand Szeth's position and get along somehow (to a certain extent - as in parting on good terms with no physical damage on both parts). Jasnah - While I'd love to see her going on a Bonnie and Clyde style adventure with Hoid, I think we will see some of her journey to Urithiru in the Interludes, along with her research. And the big reveal at the end of the book - she arrives before her family and shows them she's still alive. And if she arrives earlier than the end of the book, I expect some tension between her and Shallan concerning Ghostbloods (come on, Jasnah WILL know somehow, it's Jasnah we're talking about). Shallan - she's going to have a hard time juggling her double-life. Very hard time. Possibly going to fall apart with Adolin (fault on both sides), but hopefully stay away from Kaladin as well.
  9. Well, I didn't look at it this way... It makes sense But I still can't see Adolin as an Edgedancer in general. Besides, we already have our Edgedancer (Lift) and I gat the vibe that at least in the first 5 books we will see only one member of each order.
  10. Movie series is a definite no - they always cut too much from the movies. TV series - it would be really cool, but I realise the budget would be a big problem. No matter how much I'd like to see it. But then, every season would have to take more than 10 episodes - there's too much going on in the SA to fit it in 10 hours. They barely managed to pull it off with GoT, and it still leaves much to wish for. Anime - no. I like anime and all, but I wouldn't want to see SA turned into anime. I cringe at the very thought of huge-eyed Kal and kawaii Syl I was thinking more about something like animated series - you know, the kind of those of DreamWorks. No problems with budget, characters looking exactly the way they should and so on. Dragonlance was made into cartoons and it's a very good adaptation. So why not SA? I'd love to be able to watch it
  11. I agree - it would be somehow fitting for Dalinar to die in Book 5, after he fullfilled his duty to "unite them". And after that I believe Adolin will take his place as the Highprince and propably Kaladin will lead the Radiants (by then he should properly embrace the "leading" attribute of the Windrunner), assuming they're not disbanded or anything (I don't think it'll be the case). That's why I think Adolin will survive - Renarin wouldn't do as a Highprince. But of course Dalinar must die a valiant and heroic death - otherwise it's crem dung the stupidiest thing to do. I'm not sure if Adolin will become the king. I think it will be Elhokar's son, hopefully raised and prepared by his aunt and uncles, grandma Navani and maybe with some help of captain Kaladin. Because by now, with what we know of Aesudan, I honestly imagine Elhokar's son exactly like Robert Arryn from A Song of Ice and Fire (you know - the spoiled and completely hopeless brat who sucks mommy's breast despite being what? eight?), so it'd take much effort from the more sane part of the family to have him grow up to be anything else than pathetic. And I really hope Kaladin won't die He deserves a good future - with a loving wife and child (prefarably son similair to Tien), surrounded by true friends (Adolin, Rock and the others of the Bridge Four) and doing what is right with the other Radiants. And of course with Syl always there to scold/cheer him up.
  12. Well, at first I really thought that Jasnah died, but after learning that she's alive I realised that in restrospect it makes perfect sense. As for Syl - I always knew she was going to return, her death was a way to punch some sense into Kaladin. But Szeth's return was poorly handled in my opinion. I think it's cool that he's back, but it could've been done better. I mean, seriously? Ressurecting fabrial? It would make more sense if he were brought back by a surge of Progression (maybe from one of the Honorblades?). As for Kaladin's arm - it didn't seem all that rushed to me. I mean, yeah, it'd make an awesome plot arc (possibly with him healing that arm at some later date), but it's not bad as it is. And it did consume some ridiculous amounts of stormlight. It also caused Szeth to ponder about his powers and him being Truthless as well as gave Adolin another reason to believe that there's something peculiar to Kaladin. Besides - the position of one-armed hero was already taken
  13. My favourite character is also Kaladin. I really loved his storyline in WoK, though I started to really like him as a character only when he took charge of the bridgemen. Yes, he did many stupid or annoying things in WoR, but I still think him to be a great character. He may be prejudiced about lighteyes, but not without a reason and he does in fact try to change it. However, he did admit that Dalinar is different and trusted him enough to speak the truth about Amaram (as we know that it never did him any good in the past). With time he even slowly changes his mind about Adolin too. He sees himself that his fear that his surgebinding will be taken away from him is irrational, but fears anyway - it's a consequence of what he's been through. Yes, he does mope a bit too much and the whole situation with Moash and the assasination was his big mistake, but he would be boring if he made no stupid mistakes. As for the moping - by the end of WoR he seems to be going in the good direction, but if his depression and his issues just suddenly disappeared it would make him even more annoying and unrealistic. During the whole WoR he's either angry or gloomy, but in the end he gets over at least part of it, which makes me believe that even though some of it will prevail, it won't be so bad anymore - it was just something he had to deal with first, before going forward. And I hope it stays this way. Warning, book 3 readings spoiler!
  14. I have to disagree, Adolin doesn't seem to have much chance of becoming an Edgedancer. Their attributes are loving and healing and their oath is about remembering the forgotten. The Edgedancers are the kind of people to care for the wellbeing of everyone. They heal, so it's obvious to me that they would be against hurting others in any way. It's not the kind of order that would accept Adolin killing Sadeas. Brandon confirmed that Willshapers wouldn't mind and I believe that Dustbringers wouldn't as well, but Edgedancers too much strike me as those who wouldn't accept a murderer. Personally I see Adolin as our Dustbringer (if he does become a Radiant at all).
  15. Roshone definitely doesn't seem like someone to go out of his way to save others, especially since he hated (or at least strongly disliked) Lirin from the very beginning. My guess is that it'll rather be other way around - Lirin saving Roshone from wounds (and quite possibly everyone else in the village who needs healing - seriously, my headcanon is that Kaladin will arrive in Hearthstone and help his father with the wounded before doing anything else). And he didn't become a lighteyes, not really. His eyes turn blue because of stromlight of wielding Syl as a weapon, otherwise they're still brown. And by now Laral is most definitely married to Roshone (maybe even having his child) so I don't expect any cliche reunion (I definitly don't want to see that), expecially since their last meeting face to face didn't go too well. As for the spheres... Didn't Lirin mention that the citylord was to give him the spheres anyway, but didn't really do this because of his illness? I may be msitaken about it. But still, I see it like this: what Lirin did was against the law, but he only wanted a good life for his son, so since nobody was hurt due to his actions he didn't do anything really wrong. And Syl is concerned about what is right or wrong, not about the law (it's the thing of Naln and the Skybreakers - they would surely condemn Lirin), so I don't think it'll be a problem. Besides, I know it's whole lot of money, but Kaladin did say that he's going to pay Laral back as soon as he can (and with him holding a high military rank it's possible sooner or later) and I believe Syl would take this into consideration.
  16. I'm fully aware that it's kind of unlikely, but as I said, Chana is by now my favourite Herald so I'd really like to "find" her in the books. And Liss seems to me as the only one that Chana could possibly be, what doesn't mean that the theory is more likely because of that As for Jezrien's Honorblade - you're right, she propably would've known. But there are still many possibilities like she only found out this fact after meeting Szeth. And maybe she decided to sell him (or whatever she did to get him away from her) to make sure that such close proximity to the Honorblade won't cause her to meet with Jezrien (or other Herald) as they decided not to seek each other after parting, which in my book means also avoiding possible causes of contact. And regardless of this - no matter if Liss is Chana (or any other Herald for that matter), I don't think she would simply tell Jasnah that she got rid of him because he possesed the Honorblade.
  17. Well, it was this chapter in which he talked with his mother, when he first learned of his parents' plans to have them wed. There was something about cleaning the roof of crem... It may've even been the chapter in which Roshone first appeared, but I'm not very sure of that. I'm sorry but I really can't tell you the exact page from the books or even quote the material directly - I'm from Poland and the only copy of the book I own is the polish one so...
  18. I don't really agree with this... While it's true that prophecising is closely related to Renarin and his powers, and it's true that people ear and hate those who see the future, but it doesn't mean that Renarin will hide his visions from the world or be hated for it. By admitting the truth to the other Radiants he already revealed his abilities (or made the first step in doing so), so it's unlikely that he will try to hide it from them now. Of course, infroming the whole world that he can see the future would make people consider him a monster or something like that, but I don't think that Dalinar or Kaladin will ostarcise him (I don't know about Shallan, she had a problem with him during the battle, but I doubt she'll hate Renarin for his abilities - if she will in fact dislike him it'll be for other reasons like his behaviour or personality or anything). So I believe it's safe for him to reveal his visions to the other Radiants and therefore he won't have to suffer them alone. His contact with Glys also cannot be recent - there are many reasons to believe that his bond was already formed and not just recently. He heard the blade scream and it's possible only because of the bond. His vision healed and it also needs a bond to be "working". Glys told him he's a Truthwatcher - so the bond must've been quite far along. We must remember that at first spren are hardly sentient - they gain consciousness and intelligence as the bond progresses. Syl told Kaladin that she's an honorspren around the time of his second oath (when their bond was deeply estabilished), because only then she remembered. When Shallan first started to acknowledge Pattern in WoR he seemed, as she phrased it, imbecillic, so it's hardly possible that at such point he could say anything coherent about Lightweavers. So if Glys could speak of things like that, their bond must've been fairly well developed. And how do any bond develop? Through contact and communication of course. Think of it as of a regular friendship - can you call someone your friend if you only started communicating few days ago? Or even week ago? That would be an acquaintance. To form a real bond, a real friendship, you need at least few weeks. You could spend whole time with someone, 24/7, and that wouldn't mean they're your friend. To form a bond you must talk with someone, share your thoughts/feeling/ideas/anything, simply communicate! The Nahel bond between Renarin and Glys couldn't have been formed overnight, it must've been developing through most of the book. It's true that having powers doesn't make personal flaws go away. It's true that Renarin will still be the same person he has been before. It's true he will have to face great hardships now - because of his powers and because of his rather autistic personality. It's true that his life will propably get worse. But at the same time, in some aspects it can get better. He already mustered enough courage to go up to the other Radiants and tell them the truth. He made first steps to sharing his burden with someone else. He already started to change himslef, to grow as a character. His development may still have far to go (maybe even very far), but it has already begun. And NOT beacuse he has powers, but because of his actions - of his choice to go up to the other Radiants and reveal his secret to them. And in my opinion it's definitely not a "bad writing". PS. Can someone please explain to me how to make multiple quotes?
  19. Shallan for one. I don't want to start a rant (as nobody would propably like to read of all the things that I hate in Shallan), so let's just say she annoys me to no end and with the direction she's heading right now, it can only get even worse... And stick. It was fun to read (as a character I dislike totally got her ehem... backside handed back to her by a mere stick), but if something like that would happen again, it would be plainly boring. I guess Navani too. She's not that bad, but she's not very interesting to me as well. I was to say that I don't get the whole Nightblood craze as well, but I'm on my way to reading Warbreaker, so I have a feeling my mind will be changed. I guess I'll go hide before the cult of the stick gets me...
  20. I know that the current discussion wavered rather far from the original topic (which I don't mind, in fact, Drehy's situation does seem interesting, but that's not something I feel I can speculate about, so I'll just wait to see what's going to happen about him ), I wanted to express my opinion on the poll. Starting from the top: Jasnah - she doesn't strike me as the cougar type (on the other hand she doesn't really strike me as someone interested in romantic relationship at all), so I doubt it could be the case. Besides I just don't see Kaladin with an important highborn lighteye Shallan - in my eyes it's a huge NO (yes, in capitals). I understand why people tend to ship this, even though I strongly disagree. My reasons? Well, one thing is that Kaladin is my favourite character (alongside Syl of course ) and Shallan seemed to focus her actions in the secend book solely on purpose of annoying me (ok, that's maybe too harsh, but she DOES annoy me much, more in WoR than before ), so I just don't want to see them together. But for more objective reasons... Last thing I want to read about is love triangle, especially now, that Adolin and Kaladin started getting along (they both could really use a good friend in each other). Besides there is this whole antagonism between honorspren and cryptics... I don't think Syl and Pattern would get along just for the romance (that would be cheap). And as I said with Jasnah - important lighteye doesn't seem to me like a good partner to Kaladin. Lift - hm... no. Not just the age difference (that would be rather worked out in the further books), but their personalities simply don't fit. Unknown - that's possible, but it's not even speculation based on any facts but pure imagination (personally, I'd imagine for Kaladin a women from outside of Alethi society - maybe Iriali, I like their golden hair - somebody strongwilled and uncaring of Vorin traditions like the eye color thing or gender roles, maybe even another proto-Radiant, but a truly in-combat one unlike Shallan or Jasnah, you know, a Dustbringer or such). Other - I voted for this one, having a specific "other" in mind. But since I spoke about my reasons against previous options, I think I'll evaluate my opinions on few more female characters that are sometimes shipped with Kal. Tarah - doesn't seem like it to me, whatever was between them is over, and (for all we know about this, which is little) it happened for a reason. I think she's more of a part of his past that he has to get over. Laral - possibly even bigger NO than Shallan (or at least comparable). I won't repeat my argument about lighteyed ladies unsuitable for Kal (I mentioned it with Jasnah and Shallan and I'll explain more on the bottom), but I'd like to point out how she behaved towards him in the past. I mean that part when Kal was sitting in the kitchen and she was rude to him supporting Roshone's son (sorry, I don't have a book on me to quote). If she really cared about him, she would propably try to divert Rillir's attention somewhere else (considering that she was propably not in a position to take Kal's side). Also, we had several instances where her behaviour confused/annoyed Kal (the chapter where he fought a boy from the village), those same behaviours he now despises in the lighteyes (demanding assistance in thing they can do themselves, showing off). I admit, he once had a puppy-crush on her, but now he is a man grown and quite possibly smarter. I swear, if this would be the case, I'll throw the book at a wall (of course, not Stromlight Archive, but some random book or other object that shall have the unpleasure of being in my reach ). Jenet - and this one by now seems the most suitable for Kal. Yes, she's a lighteye, but not a stiff lighteyed lady (of the kind I'm-sooo-amazing-and-better-than-you). She's a woman with true passion and it's not something typically associated with women in Alethi society (horseriding is not forbidden to them, but it's not so typically feminine like arts), besides she seems to be strong character with her opinion and her own mind (unlike Laral). Jenet doesn't try to impress anyone (as Shallan often does - I know she has her reasons, but it's still annoying), she's just being herself and doesn't care about opinions of the others. She also doesn't seem to put so much weight to herself being lighteyed - when she appeared in the book she used rather her authority as a stablemaster, not a lighteye sensu stricto. I strongly believe that Kaladin really needs a strong woman (not a damsel in distress like some others *cough*Laral*cough*) who can force some sense into him when even Syl fails, and by now Jenet is the only one capable of this. As for my reasoning behind "no important lighteyed Brightness for Kal"... Back in WoK, when Kaladin found out that his parents planned to have him marry Laral, he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't be happy with that, as she (and possibly even his children) would outrank him greatly. It's not so much the case now, as he achieved high position himself, unless we are talking about a lighteye outranking nearly everyone (ie. Jasnah), but I believe he's important enough now not to mind a low-dahn wife so much purely because of the social status. Beware, the spoiler contains the information from the reading from the 3rd book! But still there is a matter of how typical Brightness acts - and that doesn't seem to suit Kal too much.
  21. Ok, at the beginning I"ll mention that I'm new to this site (discovered it at the beginning of this week) and generally to Brandon's work (I'm on my second re-read of WoR, I also read WoK twice, but not any other book - those were his first works I've come across), so I hope you won't mind much that there are any things I don't know I've seen that we have WoB that by now all of the Heralds appeared somehow in the books, though I've already discovered how many theories are there about them, so little is known or sure (and that's what makes it all interesting). Of course we know about Nale and I definitely do agree with the theory of Shalash being Baxil's mistress, but alost nothing is sure about the others. I've seen theories about Jezrien, Pailiah and propably few others (I didn't yet go through half of the forum, so I may not know...). But I've done a search and found almost nothing about Chana. And I don't mean just theories of her current whereabouts, but anything at all about her. Now, I must admit that Chana is my favourite Herald, even if we know next to nothing about her. It definitely has something to do with her association with the essence Spark (rubies, fire and so on - I'm completely for such things ), but mostly it's about the order of Releasers, which seems the most interesting to me (along with Windrunners - but Releasers have in my opinion better attributes, and personally I think I'd like to be one of them). So since I like her so much, I tried to find her in the books. I know I may lack some information or the insight of someone accustomed to finding things in cosmere works, but I decided to try anyway. Well, here goes my theory: what if Chana is Liss? I know it may be rather far-fetched, especially since I don't have very concrete proofs (but on the other hand I didn't find anything that would rule out that possibility - let me know if there is something about that I missed or misunderstood). Anyway, there go my arguments in support of this theory: I think I'm safe to say that it's widely believed that currently the Heralds are rather twisted versions of themselves. One of Chana's attributes is bravery, which brings to mind (at least to mine ) the idea of straightforwardly going against the enemy. Assasination doesn't seem brave in that issue so it would fit into the "twisted Heralds" concept. Another of Chana's attributes is obedience. This one would actually fit - in a way assasins obey the orders of those who hire them (and Liss didn't seem to defy Jasnah's will). There is also the matter of Szeth - I don't have the book on me right now, so I'm not sure about the actual quote, but Liss mentioned that she felt there was something off about him. If my assumption is correct, then maybe she somehow sensed the Honorblade he had? (I don't know if that's even possible among the Heralds, but I think that maybe they had some means to identify each other or their Blades) That would be it, as there is little information about either Chana or Liss. I know it's not very solid evidence, more like just some speculation, but maybe there is something in it? I don't think I saw anywhere in the books anyone else whom I've thought of possibly being Chana. I'm not sure about this, but I've seen somewhere (maybe on this forum?) that all of the Heralds attended the feast in the prologue (which would fit into my theory), but it's likely I'm mistaken on this. Besides I don't know how to explain the fact that Liss apparently posseses a Shardblade in the light of my theory (maybe she attracted a spren, maybe she won the Blade somehow, or maybe it's her own Honorblade? I honestly don't know, there is nothing to support any of those claims). But on the other hand I didn't find any real evidence against my idea... Well, what do you think about it? Is there any chance of Liss actually being Chana? Maybe there is not enough evidence as of yet about that to say anything, or maybe I overlooked something important that would prove me wrong? I'd really like to know other opinions, especially from those with more knowledge about Brandon Sanderson's works
