  1. he was named after a friend of Brandon's, and Brandon told him the character wasn't going to die so he didn't. And apparently he isn't allowed to die offscreen after the story is over either.
  2. the Seventeenth Shard was mentioned in The Letter, but yeah, I see no reason to believe the Ghostbloods have anything to do with the Seventeenth Shard. Also, I don't think Shallan has a coppermind, her ability is analogous to copper feruchemy but not identical, Brandon has said that there is only a certain number of stuff magic can do in his universe and magic that grants similar powers will tend to function similarly.
  3. @Wisdom it's not always necessary for a Shard to die to create Splinters, as far as we know Endowment is still alive and can create Splinters (the Divine Breaths) at will.
  4. Kaladin had REASON to mope around! Given the shitty situation he was in it's amazing he didn't just snap and end up gibbering in a corner.
  5. I disagree with you guys about Kaladin, but I agree with Zarepath that Dalinar is awesome.
  6. actually Brandon has implied that there is a way to augment allomancy with feruchemy, but we don't know how that works.
  7. also the cop guy Bretin was killed (in a way unrelated to the plot) and replaced by TenSoon halfway through the book, hence his odd behavior at the end (TenSoon didn't have the opportunity to study cop guy before impersonating him).
  8. good luck with WoT it's a long haul, though Brandon's books at the end are totally awesome.
  9. I don't think we know, though I also got the impression that it was something she'd been able to do for a while,I suspect this is something we will find out in her flashback chapters in book 2.
  10. Brandon has actually stated explicitly (when I asked him at a signing) that the earring has a slight hemalurgic charge, it's part of an Inquisitor spike that was melted down and reforged.
  11. the attributes for orders 2 and 5 were switched.
  12. no, Garnet is order 6, the red order adjacent to Smokestone is Ruby.
  13. except they have to be in adjacent orders because that's the way the orders work.
  14. he doesn't use the word "misty", and he was using an analogy to explain how it's hard to predict the distant future because there are so many ways things could happen.
  15. I think it's 99.9 percent certain that Shallan is in Order 6, the attributes for that order just fit far better then anything else. Also the attributes for order 3 don't fit Jasnah at all, in particular "obedient", which she certainly isn't, given her rejection of her society's religious expectations.
  16. In the days of primitive tribes and grass huts, there was one tribe which was very warlike. They won many battles, and took control of many other tribes. One of their customs when they beat another tribe was to take the most prized posession of the enemy's chief. One time, after a particularly fierce battle they defeated a rich tribe, whose king had a prized solid gold throne. Our warlike tribe took the throne, and put it in the loft in their cheif's house. Unfortunately, the throne was much too heavy to be kept in a loft in a grass house, and it fell right through the ceiling, onto the cheif, killing him instantly. The Moral of this story is...... People who live in Grass Houses shouldn't stow thrones!
  17. Kaladin doesn't give a crap about the Shards, the thing he's really mad about is the deaths of his men, that's what he's going to be fighting Amaram over when the time comes.
  18. I think the greatshells' gemhearts have spren trapped in them, that are released when they die (there's a special kind of spren that appears when a chasmfiend or other greatshell is killed that aren't seen anywhere else).
  19. by the secret
  20. I agree with the above, and I also believe that even if it's theoretically possible to form more then one bond it's something that would basically never ever happen because it's incredibly hard for a person to dedicate themselves that completely to more then one set of attributes.
  21. I am totally looking forward to an eventual confrontation between Kaladin and Amaram that ends up with the latter being pwned. I don't know if it will happen the first time they meet again or later but it's gotta happen, Kaladiin needs to have that confrontation to fully deal with his personal demons, IMO.
  22. it started out as a joke, then it kind of spiraled out of control.
  23. he couldn't resurrect them *then* because he was not experienced at using the power, there's nothing to say he'll never be able to resurrect people. He just hadn't figured out how at that point.
  24. I'm not so hot at catching stuff, I did guess that Marasi's allomancy was going to come in useful by the end of AoL I also caught the the fact that Shallan has a Shardblade. And I might have caught that Vasher was Returned, I don't actually remember.
