I read this in the tor.com re-read commentary of TWoK and was was immensely pleased. Nevertheless, it's kind of a shock as I think about the impact of dragons in other fantasy series. Foremost amongst these is Anne Bishop's Black Jewels Trilogy in which Lore features prominently. Anyway, I'm so happy that Brandon revealed this tidbit (and suspected as much, given the "lizard" reference).

Obviously, I've failed in making much happen here with regard to this massive post. My apologies. I've been distracted by several epics, most recently including RJ's WoT series, which I read for the first time once completed by BS.
Indeed, I do still want to contribute. I just don't quite know how I might do so. I have notes that seem obsolete now given the breadth of the Coppermind Wiki. I hope I can add something to those pages which are lacking. (We shall see; I'll have to check my handwritten notes.)

I'm actually going to wait until I complete my re-read of TWoK before I purchase WoR. Thanks to tor.com, I'm 12 chapters through. Nevertheless, I remain querelous of all things Vorin because I'm such a Veristitalian!

I so wish I could attend this signing! (I have to work. Boo. ) For the past few years, I've counted on Brandon's book-signings in the greater San Jose area of my region in CA and have attended every signing here. I was bummed to learn that there would not be a WoR signing in my region.
Anyway, I realize I haven't been around in a very long while, but I delightedly enjoyed virtually 10 hours today clicking and reading back and forth from the Coppermind Wiki and the TWoK re-read on tor.com. I'm 12 chapters into my re-read of TWoK and very much look forward to WoR. Do I purchase the ebook or do I wait for the volume? I remain conflicted. I like having the volume in my hands but the ebook is so much easier to read while I'm working out on the elliptical!

So happy to have a copy of Liar of Partinel that I can read at my leisure!

It would totally be Jasnah for me. I identify with her Veristitalian scholarship and am eager to learn more of that which is inside her mind. While she's quite serious - even stern at times, I imagine her to move with lithe precision and I find that immensely attractive in a woman.

That would be the one. The reading was definitely a teaser as it revealed very little and absolutely nothing about the larger scope of the book (i.e.: Shallan's arc).
On the location of the signing, however, Hicklebee's was a very intimate setting and the staff was incredibly generous. I would enjoy attending any book signing there.

I've been reading the WoT series for the past several months (currently on book 10, Knife of Dreams, the last in the series that [url+http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Oliver_Rigney]Robert Jordan[/url] wrote without the generous choice of Brandon Sanderson from Jordan's widow, Harriet McDougal for the completion of the series. Okay, that's a lot of words. Such was also a conscious choice, in my understanding. Uh-oh! (I'm borderline theorizing.) Clears throat ...
According to my intended achievement this year on Goodreads, I'm way behind my projection this year because I'm no longer reading mediocre, 300-page, introductory novellas, but most excellent ... extensive sequels to established series!

If this date http://www.hicklebees.com/event/brandon-sanderson-may-21 isn't moved off-site (as is indicated in the http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/03/brandon-sanderson-rithmatist-tour), I'll be there even though I currently have absolutely no idea just where 1378 Lincoln Ave. San Jose, CA actually is.
Goes to Google Maps ...
Ooh! I could work-out at the gym after my job ... and drive slightly south to the signing! Now, I'm planning on it!

Please check this for TWoK illustrations, inclusive of the endpapers within the hardcover volume. As well, I want to share the following from this, specifically that dated Thursday March 28, 2013 11:49am EDT (and I quote):
"The artwork on the endpapers isn't just decorative. There are important clues embedded in it.
On the border of the first two endpapers, there are ten faces. These faces also appear in the icons at the beginning of each chapter, and they seem to be classical representations (not necessarily portraits) of the ten heralds.
The first one has one version of what is later referred to as an hourglass symbol, composed of ten large and ten smalller interlinked circles. It is noteworth that three of the glyphs, if that is the proper word, als0 appear in the artwork beginning each of the parts.
These, in turn, appear to be decorative representations of swords.
This hourglass symbol is mentioned in several places as having important connections to the religion and mythology of Roshar.
The second, a map of the Silver Kingdoms, has ten kingdoms (probably no coincidence) and it's noteworthy that the names are all palindromes.
In the back endpapers, the map of Shadesmar appears to be almost an inverse image of Roshar, with seas where Roshar has land, and land where it has seas. Shadesmar is mentioned in the text, although not a lot of information is given about it.
On the last endpaper, another version of the hourglass symbol appears, with different (and colored) symbols in the circles. I have not been able to determine what these mean.
One could be suspected of thinking that Brandon, or at least the world of Roshar, is inordinately fond of symmetry."While much of this may well be known amongst Cosmere theorists, I guess I just wanted to offer the images that provide "proof" of such connections for those who might not yet have made them, despite however much they might have read as yet.0 -
Hmm ... I don't have an emoticon for that, but how about this?

Here's a bit of history about J.R.R. Tolkein via Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._R._R._Tolkien. The author was a visionary! To this day, I remain amazed that he wrote just what he did at the time in which he did. However, there was this. First and foremost, I'm a reader. Never, will I ever, post a reply if I've not read (or, in some cases, watched) an issue's specifics. Therefore, I've naught left to say this night.

Just what exactly is included in that bookcase? I mean ... is that a bottle of nail polish remover and a plastic bag of cotton balls?

Despite my emoticon, you should definitely change your name, imho.

Can I just say that I love Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs-boson_particle Also, I remain intrigued with not just the science, but also in the implications of it. Just how that might translate in science fiction, we may already know! Imagine the possibilities!
"One possible signature of a Higgs boson from a simulated collision between two protons. It decays almost immediately into two jets of hadrons and two electrons, visible as lines."
There's more on-site to be read, of course.
I'm not much of a theorist with regard to that which I read, but I love it when facts fit with that which I've read in fantasy, science and historical fiction (i.e.: my main three genres) nonetheless. Most often, I've not sought the truth to prove the possibility of the fantasy; I've just taken the fantastical as factual to the novel/series/epic and left it at that. However, the writing of Brandon Sanderson, his systems of magic, the connection between worlds in which he's written, the as-yet-to-be-determined unknowns have me contemplating subjects I never before did. In all honesty, I welcome this wholeheartedly! I've said it before and I'll say it again: Brandon's are the systems of magic that surpass all of which I've read before!
So, maybe I didn't reply exactly to the discussion above, but I'm pleased to have stated that which I did ... just because it's me.

Currently, I just have a LG dumb phone by Verizon. Why? Because it was free at the time and I wasn't in a position to purchase anything better. However, I've been saving my change for an iPhone ... literally. I deposit all of the change I come home with on any given day into a depository (i.e.: a canister in my home) and it's almost full. When it's full, I get my iPhone! I'll still be with Verizon because my partner (as a UPS driver) gets a discount on a monthly rate. Still, it'll go up somewhat because I'll finally have auto-internet connect without having to venture into an establishment that provides wifi (as I have to do with my iPad).

I've got the Canon PowerShot SD770 IS 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver). You can find it here on Amazon. It came with software, but I think it's now outdated with regard to new OS because my laptop doesn't recognize that a camera is connected to it when I plug it in via usb. Thus, I purchased a memory card reader so I can, once again, upload my pics from my digi-cam to my laptop (and iPad, with yet another reader).
This reminds me that I have photos I've yet to upload!

I've been wanting to do this for a while because we're all such geeks about our tech and there's a lot of humor to be found in that. Therefore, I'm introducing a thread that has everything to do with our experience of humor through our "devices" (i.e.: the cell phone, the laptop, the desktop, etc.), however that might be represented.
I'm an Apple user (laptop and tablet with phone soon to follow) and I'll begin this topic with Mac-related images. (Please feel free to pitch in anywhere non-Apple users! This thread is not exclusive despite its title.) I want to encourage the posting of stories, images, emoticons, etc. here (of which I've already collected many).
Amongst them, here are just a few to get things going ...
All right then ... onto the next pics!
I love apple pie!
Want a close-up?

Hey, hey, hey! I can't read posts that should be spoilers! I stated from the outset that I hadn't yet read these books!
I only just found out that the Kindle versions I have on my iPad include all six novels in this series. I feel so stupid! I know this series has had it accolades (especially on Goodreads). So, what are it's drawbacks?
Also, a YA series? (I said I felt stupid!)In all sincerity, should I have started a new topic on this, very much the same?

San Francisco WoR Signing
in Events and Signings
Posted
I've been fortunate to have been afforded the opportunity to attend several BS book-signings in my region in recent years. Unfortunately, I have to work during the evening he'll be speaking and signing in San Francisco on 3/6/14. I'll be holding my copy of WoR close to me until I can see him again in my region during the Reckoners/Rhythmatist sequels!
