I completed the WoT series in June of 2013 for the first and only time.  I'd been made aware of the series through another fan site and yet, didn't begin it until I'd joined yet another fan site based on the same series.  Kind of crazy-making, I know, but sometimes I need incentive ...

of which I should've been aware already.  However stupid I might feel with regard to my lapse in honoring Robert Jordan and the WoT epic, I'm accomplished in having read the series from beginning to end, one novel after the other.  In all honesty, my favorite novels were Towers of Midnight and A Memory of Light.  Why?  Because I so appreciate Brandon's writing style over that of R.J.'s.  For those hardcore R.J. fans, I apologize for my defection!  Simply, I'm drawn to Brandon as an author of epic fantasy like no other!

While I completed the epic somewhat over a year ago - having read it for the first time ever from beginning to end - I have to admit that I far much more enjoyed Brandon's Towers of Midnight and A Memory of Light over all the other books in the series.  It's just his writing style.  He's not so much focused on appearances and expressions thereof, whereas RJ was (i.e.:  bending a leg, so to speak ... etc.).  That's not my interest.

Can I contribute something different?  I'd like to contribute quotes from WoR (and TWoK) if accepted.  I've placed sticky notes on each page upon which I thought necessary for each volume within my hard copies.  Please see my Compendium in the The Coppermind Wiki forum entry!

In my mind, it really depends upon just what you prefer/like. You've mentioned solely male authors. Do you prefer male authors? Have you read works of female authors? If so, why haven't you mentioned their works? If not, why not?

I think we need to redefine our offerings. Might we differentiate our favorites between fantasy and sci fi?

I have to admit that I've not yet read Rothfuss (silly me), nor Erikson (again, silly me). Even so, I remain an advocate for ASoIaF (i.e.: Game of Thrones, for advocates of the HBO series, yet who've not read the novels). Not silly of me. READ, watchers! There's so much more ... there!

This novel was so predictable that I couldn't stand it and never read, nor ever will read anything by Terry Goodkind again!

I'm also reading Shawn Speakman's Unfettered. (My iPad is far more elliptical-trainer-friendly than the 1000+ page volume of WoR!).

Sure!  I secured my WoR yesterday!  If only wish I didn't have to work. 

Szeth has a challenge that we readers didn't expect (nor did we anticipate).  Whatever!

In fantasy fiction, it's a theorist's playground to posit that which would've/should've/could've happened.  Vin did die and Sazed picked up the pieces (so to speak) as Harmony.  Ruin and Preservation cancelled one another out.

 

If the Lord Ruler had won?  There wouldn't be a story and Kelsier's sacrifice would've been in vain.

I'm about to begin Words of Radiance.  I've long wanted to read the Malazan series, but don't yet have it completely in ebook format.

One I mentioned above. With lots of males, one female who gets all the spotlight, lots of childrenmaking. I didn't say you're reading them, because I don't know whether you do or not. I said that I believe you know that those kinds of books are dominating today and reason to that seems apparent for me, people like them. I don't.

Holy moly!  You're seriously entrenched in your own beliefs!   Just how is it that you remain so stigmatized?

Interesting perspective, Wit.  As far as ASoIaF is concerned, for me it's all about characters, some of whom in which I'm invested (i.e.:  Arya, Daenerys), some of whom in which I believe remain integral to the entire arch (i.e.:  Tyrion, John Snow).  Granted, this is just my interested opinion and with regard to TWoK (& The Stormlight Archive as a whole ... eventually), I totally agree that it "is fantasy with a history."  Nicely stated, btw.  

I was so excited for this book because we finally got a real look at Sabetha!  After reading it, I remain unfulfilled.  Perhaps I expected so much more than the novel delivered.  I don't quite know.  While the back-story was excellent, the present left me questioning (as intended, I surmise).  Scott Lynch has a helluva story on his hands and I really hope he can complete it!

Please define "that kind of 'female fiction' because I really don't understand that which you're describing as such, which leads me to believe that you might potentially be making a gross assumption about me and my knowledge of women writers and readers.  Further, I don't believe that you "hate women;" I totally get it that you prefer male authors of fantasy, with which I have no problem.  To each one's own.  I just want to know exactly that to which you are referring so that I might better understand your perspective.  I've no animosity toward you, Shardbearer, and I do appreciate lively debate.
