Point. And now that Conq has admitted to being Roshar, I'm hoping he'll go back to helping his faction. Daniyah.- 537 replies

Mid-Range Game 16: War of the (Cosmere) Worlds
little wilson replied to Alvron's topic in Sanderson Elimination
When I said "last" Rosharan, I was referring to the "last Rosharan before the deal is off". Not literally the last Rosharan. Also, Alv, when there's a secret item in the lottery, will it be announced before the lottery? If the answer to this question is yes, then Conq's win condition is still that of Roshar, and therefore, he did lie about not being Roshar and acting like his win condition had changed. Now he is actually admitting to still being Roshar. This is good. I'd like to also add that just because there's an potential item in the lottery that changes your faction does not mean that it will go to Con and that he will become Selian. For one, we don't even know if Alv will put it in the lottery, and two, we don't know when he will put it in. For all we know, it might be planned for the Cycle 8 lottery and we might well all be dead by then. To help a team that is not your own on an if is a terrible idea.- 537 replies

I'm aware. But you're the one betraying his faction. This is a faction game. People who completely go against their win con and then refuse to admit it don't get a free pass from me, even if I'm not the one they're betraying.- 537 replies

No. The terms of the agreement were that we can't target the other until the cycle after the last Rosharan is dead. So if Conq dies, and is indeed Rosharan (as he is), then next cycle I can target Selians, just like the Selians can (and will) target me. And stop acting like you're Selian, Nyali, and I'm doing something terrible to your faction. We all know you're independent and just choosing to side with Sel.- 537 replies

There's only one little problem with your thought process: Conq isn't Selian. He's Rosharan. Technically, I could do something to you and it still wouldn't be breaking my alliance with Joe. And also, technically, my vote on Joe wasn't even breaking that alliance, since "targeting" is referring to actions. I cannot act towards any Selian until one more Rosharan is dead. I'm simply wanting that Rosharan to be Conquestor because he's a dirty, lying traitor to his faction and even though I'm not on his faction, I don't condone dirty, lying traitors who won't even fess up to the fact that they're dirty, lying traitors.- 537 replies

Joe. Conq. A secret lottery item that changes your alignment? Really? That's a load of hogwash, straight from the mouth of someone who doesn't care about his win con and seeks to screw over his factionmates. The only secret lottery item so far has been the Plushie and guess what? That was revealed. Now you're trying to say there's another secret lottery item that wasn't revealed? Sorry, not buying it. Especially not when the item is one that upsets the balance of the game. Alv is a meticulous game-balancer. You're a liar. At least have the guts to admit it.- 537 replies

It's because Sel has a majority, since they've got Nyali, the Paranoid Arms Dealer, working with them and Conq, a Rosharan traitor, also working with them. So now they're all working together to kill off everyone else so Sel can win. Joe.- 537 replies

You said "I am a Politician." Now, let's look at the rules: Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only role there with the name "Politician" is a Scadrial role. So yes, you claimed Scadrial. Not in so many words, but you claimed a Scadrial-only role. Now, had you said "I'm like a Politician," then that wouldn't be claiming Scadrial. But that's not what you said. Therefore, you've once again lied. You were not twisting the truth. Care to try again?- 537 replies

I'm not sure you can really blame Stick for your current predicament, Mage. Plus, you only claimed the faction of the person who you were claiming to once and that was to Stick? Um, that's not true. You claimed Scadrial to me, after I'd claimed in the thread. And then you claimed Nalthis to Stick after he claimed to you. So that's twice. And the Scadrial claim was a lie. I'd guess the Nalthis claim was a lie too. See, you say you cared about your faction from the start but if that were true, you would've kept them more in the loop about what you were doing. I know you weren't keeping Scadrial in the loop, so your real faction clearly isn't Scadrial (though I know it's not from more than just that too). And Doc's urge to kill you at the end of last cycle and the beginning of this one indicates that you weren't keeping Nalthis in the loop either. So....is your faction one other than Nalthis or Scadrial? If so, why are you saying that you only lied about your faction claim once? No, I think it's far more probable that you're Hoid and were just trying to make everyone think that you were part of their faction so they wouldn't attack you. Looks like that backfired on you. Sorry. :/- 537 replies

Fires are something the western US is quite familiar with too (though perhaps not quite to the degree that it seems Australia is). The last few years, the summers have been really hot and dry so open fires are usually banned from campsites (depending on where the campsite is) because of the risk of wildfires. 2012 was one of the worst summers for fires in the west that I can remember. There was a huge one in California, one in the middle of Idaho and another in Oregon (along with some smaller ones in Utah, Colorado and, I think, Montana), so resources were spread really thin and a lot of the priority went on the California fire, to keep it away from cities. My sisters were working in the Sawtooth Wilderness Area in Idaho that summer and the huge fire there started about 18 miles north of where they were working. Burned for the next 4 months over an area of 182,000 acres (284 square miles/736 square kilometers) until it got put out from snow and rain in mid-to-late October. That same summer, I was working at a hotel near the interstate, and a fire somehow started nearby (no idea how, though it was probably just a couple sparks from cars that set it off). Jumped the freeway and was heading straight for the hotel and the gas station nearby before the firefighters put it out. That was fun day. Knowing that if that fire reached the gas station, I was probably dead. And the hotel manager refused to answer her phone. Super great. But yeah, that's one place I don't want to be with a fire nearby again: a gas station. Hard pass.

Does anyone even know what team you're actually on, Mage? Assuming you're even on a faction team? Why would you claim Hoid if you're not really an Independent? Why claim so many different factions?- 537 replies

Mid-Range Game 16: War of the (Cosmere) Worlds

Yeah, entering the regular lottery in hopes of getting the Reviver at this early point in the game would usually be a smart move, especially if Araris was the SK. He's always one for PM safety, so he wouldn't be talking in any PMs, he hadn't said much in the thread, so he hadn't given any reason for anyone to kill him through suspecting he was the SK. And if he can get protection from a lottery item--particularly the Reviver--things will go even better for him later in the game when he is starting to get attacks from other people. That logic also kind of applies to the Demo, but a little less-so since those who get explosives aren't told that they're given explosives, so it's harder to guess who the Demo might be based on who they're trying to kill. But yeah, my gut says SK.- 537 replies

Actually, Nyali, I'm betting that Araris entered the lottery, and if he did, that would've gotten rid of the SK's extra life. I'm actually thinking he is the SK, if Magestar really is Hoid. Though he could be the Demo. But based on the writeup and Al Vron and the audience's hope that Hadrian Penrod would go far, I'm thinking SK. SK is Alv's pet role. He always hopes that the SK will go far. (Spoiler: the SK never does)- 537 replies

Mid-Range Game 16: War of the (Cosmere) Worlds

I can guarantee that Sel is better organized than Scadrial right now. 4 of their players are in contact with each other and they are at least partially coordinating things. Please compare this to the 3 that are in contact with each other in Scadrial. Yes, I revealed myself first, and I was contacted by four people almost immediately, but one said right off that they weren't Scadrian, two others said that they may or may not be Scadrian and the fourth claimed to be Scadrian. Eventually, they roleclaimed Politician. A little bit later, one of the ones who said they may or may not then also claimed to be Scadrian and they also claimed Politician. So I knew one (or both) of them was lying. Until last night, when I was asleep, those were the only two "Scadrians" that I was in contact with. So in contact with every Scadrian? Nope. Not even remotely. Quite the contrary, since last night I was about ready to just say screw it to the Scadrians and go for fun because clearly my team didn't care about the faction. I'm still half-considering that. If we really don't want to lynch Straw, I'd be down for lynching Mage. He's an independent role.- 537 replies

I don't really care if he's right about his information. The bit that gets me is the selling of information. It's even worse if he's selling bad information when others are giving him good and honest information for his incorrect information. Now, if everyone is giving bad info, then it doesn't really matter. But I'd rather just get rid of the Info Shoppe, and that means removing the perpetrator of it. He's sowing chaos whether he's meaning to or not and this game is chaotic enough as it is.- 537 replies

Assuming that you're right (though I have my doubts), just because we're all part of the same faction doesn't mean that we're in communication with each other. Only one of those three has contacted me. I've been contacted by more people who aren't Scadrian than I have by people who are. So sure, we might have all those players, but are we organized? Heavens no. Not any more-so than Sel is, and probably Nalthis at this point as well. Point is, all the factions have the same number of players. So if you want to say that Scadrial is a threat because they have this many players, you'll have to say that about every single faction. So everyone should beware of everyone else. But....we already knew that. That said, if you're right about those three (though it appears you're wrong about Araris, but I basically already knew that), thanks. Good to know. Muchos gracias for helping the Scadrians after just saying to beware of them. So kind of you.- 537 replies

Like vote for you? Thanks, Maill 2.0. This whole Info Shoppe was the thing I liked the least about Maill and I'd hoped that maybe it would stop with him being gone. Alas I should've known someone would pick up the slack. That doesn't mean I have to like it or support those who do it. Straw.- 537 replies

...that's not how this works. I mean, I am Scadrian, but I'm not confirmed Scadrian. And anyway, how else do you propose people organize when no one knows who else is on their team? I'm basically sacrificing myself to hopefully get Scadrial organized. Because I can guarantee that I will die next Cycle. At least one person will attack me because I'm safe to attack for anyone who's not Scadrian. But you know what? I'm fine with that. I'll die for my team. Gladly. I would really just like my death to actually mean something so it would really be nice if the Scadrians did contact me. Please. >>- 537 replies

Mid-Range Game 16: War of the (Cosmere) Worlds

To answer the question about teams and balance, a lot of faction games fail because they try to balance things against each other in the way that El suggested: where one team has a lot of protection, another has kill, another has information-gathering roles, etc. The problem is, what if the protection team has mostly inactives? That team is not only disadvantaged due to their members being inactive, but the active players are disadvantaged because roles they need to have a chance to survive and win are inactive and they're left with basically nothing to do because their entire team's purpose is protection. The best chance for a faction game to be balanced is all teams to be on equal footing in terms of roles. This is how MR5 was run. Not every role was in the game, even on the teams. There was enough for all the team roles to be in the game. But Alv dropped one of the roles to add a second double-life for each team into the game. I would bet my MEC suit that I just got back that all four teams have the exact same roles right now. Sure, there's still a problem with inactivity, but for a single inactive, the team isn't too disadvantaged because the other players have things they can do to counteract it. (I know. The Epics in the first game had both the faction-scanner and the kill role inactive/not reporting to the team (and dying within the first two cycles) whereas some of the teams had every role active. And yet in the last four standing in the game, two of them were Epics). With 22 players in the game, that puts 5 people on each team. I'm certain that the Jack of All Trades, the protect, the kill, and the thug are on each team. I'm not sure whether he'd drop the scanner or the vote manip, though. I could see him doing either one. He dropped the vote manip last time, and I do rather think this game could be very interesting (in light of what happened in the first run) without scanners. The real question is which 2 of the 4 independents he included. And that I have no idea about. I can see him doing any combo of them. Instinct tells me the SK is in the game, but instinct told me that last time because it's his pet role and Alv didn't include it because he knew people would expect it. Hoid was in the last game, which makes me think Hoid wouldn't be in this one, but Hoid could be for that very reason. The Demolitionist could be a lot of fun. So could the Paranoid Arms Dealer. I'm leaning towards an SK/Paranoid Arms Dealer mix. Possibly switching out the SK for the Demolitionist though. But anyway. Point is, the teams are highly likely even right now. They have the same roles. That much is practically certain. The only real question is which role(s) did he drop from the teams. And which of the independents he included. And just to spice things up: I'm from Scadrial. Scadrians (and anyone else who wants to try to fool me into thinking you're from Scadrial as well), feel free to contact me. Let's get organized!- 537 replies
