Yes, I did. Josh brought an official recorder though, so I don't have it. He's also giving it to Windy to transcribe, since there are some.....sensitive topics (read: WoR spoilers) being discussed in the background.

As for details that we don't know, I have no idea. I put my phone and the table and walked off. At the Steelheart one, I was helping with the line, so I wasn't even anywhere near the table most of the night. And at the Jordan Landing one, although I was somewhat near the table for part of the night, Mi'ch and I were arguing about something (you can actually hear part of that argument in the recording even though we weren't all *that* close to the table...)

Well, if you really don't think you have the mad skillz necessary to learn it, I suppose I can be the one to handle the onerous task. :-P
-
Psh. You've got, like, 3 months to figure it out! Ignorance is hardly an excuse....

I know I'm months late posting this, but I have recordings of the signing portion (which means ALL of the questions anyone asks Brandon) of the last two big signings I went to - the Steelheart release in Orem and the Jordan Landing signing. I plan on leaving my phone at the table tomorrow too, at the SLC signing, so I'll have another lengthy recording to add on here soon. Here are the links to both of those recordings. Jordan Landing Steelheart Orem The files are HUGE (both are over 2 hours long), so you'll have to download them. I would've transcribed them, but between work and everything else I have going on right now, I really don't have the time. At all. Nor the patience. But I know plenty of you folks on here are quite adept at transcribing things like this, so I will leave it in your capable hands. Also, neither is the full signing. My phone kind of started dying (I should probably invest in a good recording device so I don't have to resort to my phone). Mi'ch has the other half of at least the Orem one. And I think the Jordan Landing one as well.

The archives have been down for a few months now. I think I first noticed it back in September or October. At the latest. It was actually probably even earlier than that. I don't know. I check the link fairly regularly, because there's a thread there I desperately want to refresh my memory on (a purely genius battle royale of all the Sanderson magic systems. Epic, if I recall correctly). Anyway. I've talked to Mi'ch and Josh about it, and it's like what Joe said. Chaos/Eric's been really busy, so it could be a while before it gets fixed.

Buy. Mostly because I really want that to happen. Not that I actually think it will. There will be an entire chapter in WoR that is a song......between Hoid and Kaladin.

Which signing will you be at? *Steelheart Edition*
little wilson replied to LazerWulf's topic in Events and Signings
Heh. I really need to get around more on the forums.... His response was laughter (well....more like a chuckle), and that we were on the right track. But he didn't come right out and say yes or no. Unfortunately. I'm leaning toward yes, though. Just based on his reaction and expression at the time. Well, it's not about me remembering. I have an incredible memory (I'm also incredibly humble). But it's kind of hard to give an answer if someone doesn't remember to even ask the question at the game night.... -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
little wilson replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That is a good question. I think I might just ask Brandon that later today. And as for that team match up. It would really depend on what aons Raoden drew and with which modifiers. He's already pretty quick by the end of Elantris, and he's only had a few months to practice. Put him in a speed bubble, though...He'd produce a TON of aons. I don't think Szeth would get to him in time. The aons are too powerful, and how exactly would Szeth protect himself from one? A lashing wouldn't do anything. -
Cosmere Battle Royale; AKA Who Would Win
little wilson replied to Gamma Fiend's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This totally reminds me of a topic I made on TWG years ago. I'd link to it, but the archives are in maintenance mode. I held to the point that Raoden would beat everybody. Granted, this cage match was before Stormlight Archive, which throws in some strong abilities, but I still hold to Raoden beating anyone and everyone. As long as the match took place near Elantris anyway. As for some of the other matches with other characters battling it out (either physically or otherwise). Lord Ruler v. Seb was a tough one for me. Initially, I was thinking Seb, no doubt. Then I thought it was close, but still in favor of Seb. But then I really starting thinking, and now I've flipped the other way. Lord Ruler wins. Allomancy plus Feruchemy versus an Awakener? Yeah, the God King is powerful, but there's only so much Awakening can do, and unless Seb figures out about the bracers and gets them off the Lord Ruler, Rashek can heal immediately. Seb wouldn't be able to do any damage to him at all. I mean, this is a guy who merely gets irritated over decapitation. I'd like to see how Seb would hold up to that.... Kelsier v. Kaladin would go to Kaladin. If it's purely spears, it would take a while, but Kaladin would win. Kelsier is good, but he's not that good. Yeah, his fight with the Inquisitor was awesome, but he had a lot of other tricks up his sleeve, particularly with iron and steel. And if you give him other metals, you've got to give Kaladin spheres. And that makes this fight significantly shorter. Kaladin with spheres would take Kelsier down really fast. I mean, the entire Parshendi army couldn't take Kaladin down with all their arrows, so a few coins aren't going to do anything to him. And with all that stormlight, Kelsier doesn't stand a chance. I would pay good money to see both those matches of wits. Not sure which one I want to see more though, which surprises me a little bit. I love both Elend and Lightsong, and seeing them go at it would make my year, but Wayne and Shallan would be utterly hilarious. I think I would probably die of laughter.... -
Which signing will you be at? *Steelheart Edition*
little wilson replied to LazerWulf's topic in Events and Signings
Yes. You do. Just like I finally get to meet you! Apparently that's what happens when I move down to Utah. I get to meet all sorts of people I met on TWG. Like Mi'ch. And Josh. And Peter. And now you. Seems like the only one missing is Natalie/Silk...But, well, she's Canadian, so what can ya do? (Kidding, to any Canadians out there...) -
Which signing will you be at? *Steelheart Edition*
little wilson replied to LazerWulf's topic in Events and Signings
I'll definitely be at the release, and I'll most likely be going to the one on the 19th as well. -
Chris! Welcome back! Sorry to hear about what's happened, but it's good that things are better now. I hope they stay that way.

I've heard another one called the Id-10-T error.... No, I'm pretty sure my phone is behind a firmware upgrade or two. But my laptop had issues connecting the last time I upgraded and it took about 3 months to finally sync up to get the upgrade. I just don't have the patience right now to upgrade it. So occasionally it'll shut down on me. Which is irritating when I'm in the middle of a game or an article, or it's the 3rd time it's shut down that day, but whatever. Can't complain too much since I know how to fix it; I'm just choosing not to.
-
Thank you. Good to know it's not just me. For a second there, I was worried it was my stupid smartphone (yes. I know. Oxymoron, that. But I really think my phone is retarded at times. And it's not because of the user....).

Is anyone else having problems with the time stamps on here? Like you've got the wrong timezone, but when you check in the settings, it's correct? The entire site is behind 4 hours for me. This obviously isn't too big a deal, but it is a little irksome. I even have a screenshot to back myself up, if anyone thinks I'm crazy or something. For some reason, it's being screwy with the upload, but here it is anyway:

The Recipient of the Letter is a Dragon!
little wilson replied to GreyPilgrim's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's possible for an in-world explanation. However, I think the most likely reason for Hoid being so vague and cryptic is that if Brandon made him too specific, casual readers would be like "This post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules? Lerasium? What's that?" And then when they find out it's from Mistborn, they'd be like " seriously? So not only is this series 10 (really big) books, he also expects us to read all his other stuff too, just to understand it? Not happening." Now, that's not saying Hoid doesn't have his own motivations for not being specific. Any good author would make sure a character has the right motivations. It's just, I'd bet Brandon's prime reason for the vagueness is to not scare off readers, so yes, Hoid has his motivations, but they're there because of that prime one. Mostly. -
The Recipient of the Letter is a Dragon!
little wilson replied to GreyPilgrim's topic in Cosmere Discussion
That's nice we've got a confirmation of that. I mean, we already knew Hoid wrote the letter, but I've been curious about the recipient for a while. And I know there was some serious speculation on it being a dragon, so I'm not surprised. As for the other part of your post....I don't think we can really talk about it, since Dragonsteel's unpublished. And I'm pretty sure we were all asked not to talk about unpublished works on the forums. However, to satiate your curiosity a little bit, there's not much we really know about the dragons. They're only in the very beginning of the book. (I haven't finished it quite yet, but I'm pretty sure that's right. Someone correct me if it's not.) -
Like I said: death or serious maiming. I'm there. Guaranteed through the weekend. Probably Friday on. Edit: Because my phone sucks and submitted before complete and/or grammatically correct.

Eh. Maybe. There's always spanreeds though. It's not like Amaram says he talked to Restares in person. However, I'm more likely to believe the stormwarden idea than Taravangian. Just because when I first read that part, I took it as the Stormwarden. Wasn't til I remembered Gavilar mentioning Restares that it occurred to me it probably wasn't a Stormwarden. Or at least not one in Amaram's army. If Restares is a Stormwarden, he'd be high enough ranking to be at the Shattered Plains already. I'm pretty sure. That said, I don't think we've even met Restares yet. But that's not relevant to this discussion..... :-)
-
Wait. "When Kaladin meets Restares again"? Has Kaladin met Restares? I didn't think he had.... I know some people think Restares is Taravangian, but I don't perscribe to that particular theory. Yet. I'm immensely curious who Restares is, and I don't think Kaladin will be too thrilled when he does meet him, but honestly, I'm more waiting for the Amaram meeting. Mostly to see Amaram's look of "Oh, holy shiz."

I wasn't saying it was impossible. I've always thought it was possible, even with the difficulty and danger. Neither of those words are synonymous with impossibilty. Hoid has been my main reasoning for that belief. He can clearly get there. I'm just betting that, being Hoid, he doesn't have to worry quite as much about the dangers inherent with Shademar on Sel. Others would. He doesn't (or at least not as much as your average, run-of-the-mill world-hopper).
-
Me too. Particularly support for the first part. How is it a certainty that he would've ended up on a bridge crew? Personally, I agree with both Shardlet and Crysanja. The bridge crews would've just been another problem in a long list of problems, but they would also be the one that bugged Kal the most. However, he wouldn't be able to do much. Syl didn't really start making a major impact on him until he was a slave, and I think it was because of the issues he had as a slave, not because of the time that she'd already had with him. So I don't think her little bit of influence on him as soldier would be enough for him to really make a difference and do something to help the bridgemen. And maybe that's what Gloom is referring to. That he'd try, fail, and get thrown into being a bridgeman. I think it's more likely that he would die in the failed attempt though....But maybe not.
-
Yeah. We've had multiple confirmations of this. I think at first it was that it was "difficult" to travel to Shadesmar on Sel because the Shards were splintered. And now I've mostly heard that it's "dangerous" to do so. Your signing casts a slightly more exact light on what is meant by "dangerous," though. I heard somebody (I think it was Eric on Ep 4 of the Shardcast) say that it's not possible to travel to Shadesmar on Sel. Dangerous, along with the fact that it's very difficult, could possibly give off that vibe. I've never taken it that way. I've always thought it's possible, just hard. And you wouldn't really want to. And that signing backs up that idea. You can totally get there. You'll just end up regretting it if you do. So piece of advice: stay away.

I am completely and entirely in agreement with Windy on this one. We have no idea what plot led up to the position he's in. And as for the face....well. Let me give my own 2 cents. Some people naturally look older than they are, just like some people naturally look younger than they are (I frequently am told I look like I'm 21 or 22. I'm 26. Two years ago, I was told I looked 16). I've seen pictures of girls who are 18 who look like they're 30 or 40. Now, I'm not saying Kaladin is one of those people. But I do believe if I were to meet him in real life, I would never guess him to be 19. I would probably guess him to be in his late 20's at least, based on appearance alone. Going through the kinds of stuff he's been through ages a person. That just naturally happens. So sure, he's 19. But he's not going to look it. Anyway. My initial reaction to the cover: Holy Batman, that's awesome! (well...I didn't really say that, but I should've).
