I would for sure buy a t-shirt. I'd probably buy a Hoidie now that it's getting cooler (and if we do have them, Hoid's face should be included in a small image somewhere, maybe on an arm just below the shoulder?). If I had any input towards what should initially be stocked in a 17th Shard store it'd be the following: 1) T-shirt 2) Car/Window Decals 3) Bumper sticker 4) Water bottle 5) Hoidie 6) Lanyard I still think we should do a site poll asking people what they'd want initially stocked and we take the top 3 or 5. Also, firstRainbowRose, logistically, how would the store work? Would we try to mimic the official Brandon Sanderson store? Would we be able to use their operations to warehouse inventory and to fulfill orders? If not, do we outsource fulfillment to some company or does a very dedicated Sharder fulfill orders on their own time?

Stormlight Archive Book 3(+) Readings
Titan Arum replied to Sabrina Stormshard's topic in Stormlight Archive
It's just in Brandon's own newsletter that you can sign up for if you contact Brandon through his website. However, someone posted the chapter in a spoiler note in the News and Guides forum. It actually is the extended version of the Kaladin chapter posted here in this thread. However, we're not sure, as Moogle states above, if this is allowed. Peter, please weigh in on that, because I'm sure we can get the person who posted it to erase if needed. UPDATE: The posting of the entire chapter, while originally meant as an exclusive for newsletter subscribers, has been approved by Team Sanderson to be on the site fully copied in. Thanks RUBIX for getting the approval (I assume that it was Rubix). And especially thanks to Team Sanderson for allowing it to stay up! -

Gloomspren indeed! They'd make a pretty easy/last minute Cosplay costume in a pinch. -
Stormlight 3 Sample Chapter in Sept. 2014 Newsletter
Titan Arum replied to Titan Arum's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Good question, I think I had the option to sign up for it when I "Contacted" Brandon through his website when I asked for a copy of White Sand. Is this the best method to get the newsletter, for people more in the know? Argent, I didn't know if I could include that in the forum post directly, so I'm glad that people can see it. Hopefully, though, by posting it here if we weren't supposed to, won't mean that we won't get these treats in the future! -
So, the new sample chapter for Stormlight 3 that Brandon included in the September, 2014 newsletter shows Kaladin's arrival back to Hearthstone. I won't mention what it says, so that you all can read it yourselves. Cheers!

When I travel I use the dumbest phone on the planet: a Nokia 1202. What a beauty! I bought that thing for $20 in Cambodia back in 2010. So far it's worked in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Best part about it: the game Snake. At home I use an iPhone 5s. It's okay, but I do like the camera on it. Also, it is nice to be able to read the 17th Shard on it while I'm walking the dog.

I wonder if it would be possible to design a black long-sleeved 17th shard t-shirt with tassels around the cuff. This would represent both a Mistcloak & Vasher's Awakened shirt that helped him grip on items and climb walls...
-
I really like where your mind is going! Those would be awesome. I already see them being similar to those gaggy arrow-through-the-head headbands. Instead they'd be some type of glasses/goggles version. There's one problem with all of this though...this would require us to actually find a manufacturer and work with them to create molds, etc. With basic store stuff like t-shirts, decals, etc, the process is much easier and usually would only require some type of printing. Maybe one day, when the 17th Store is going strong with good sales, we can do items like this. I know there'd be quite a few hardcore Sharders who'd buy them!

This is why I'd be a Willshaper also. Especially the love of adventure. If my life weren't one giant adventure, I'd be bored.

Anyone else feel that WoK Kaladin > WoR Kaladin?
Titan Arum replied to Daxos's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree with the others, that the quality of his opponents is far superior in WoR. My problem, though, with Kaladin in WoR is the swing in his characterization relative to WoK. I understand Brandon wants to build him up and tear him down a bit, but it seems he goes too low compared to who he is and how honorable he is painted in WoK. However, in the 3rd book I have a feeling he'll be awesome and my gripes about characterization will be blown away with the wind... -
I personally start wearing a hoodie outside when it's 65 degrees or colder. It's simply another apparel option. When I was an undergrad, every single student was wearing a hoodie while walking around campus in the fall, winter, and early spring. They're stylish and comfortable! However, if we were to start a store, I'd say start small with the items we'd assume would be bought the most frequently like a t-shirt (or two), lanyard, etc. Maybe we run a poll and allow people to pick the top five items they'd want/be willing to buy and we take the top 3 across all the choices to stock first in the future store. If they all start selling well, we can add a few more items to the inventory. Also, to make the potential store work with high enough initial demand (because I have a feeling the use of this fansite is rather cyclical, with core users always here and fairweather users here at/shortly after a book release), it'd probably be best to open it shortly before the release of a new Sanderson book. I'm thinking maybe when Shadows of Self is published or the third Stormlight book. That way, people will also be ready for the next book signing tour and we can identify who our Shard brethren are!

If you want help setting up the kickstarter, I'd be more than happy to support that effort with you and whomever at the 17th Shard would contribute. I could help write it up and potentially make mock-ups (or find friends to do it). I bet we could get a good effort here on the boards to figure out who has a friend/ability to make an awesome video, design items, etc. I know I have a few videographer friends and a few graphic designer friends as well. Anyway, items I'd like to see would include t-shirts, decals/stickers, hoodies, koozies, etc. T-shirts, in my opinion, are a must, because how cool would it be to walk down the street and see a fellow Sharder and to help identify Sharders at events too. Seems like a must!

Hello Happapotamus! As a fellow newbie to the board: Welcome! Now that you've been introduced to the Cosmere, do you have any favorite theories or are you cooking one up on your own?

So, I was thinking that it would be cool to have a 17th Shard t-shirt. When we go to signings or anything put on by Brandon, we could then easily identify who in the crowd is a 17th Sharder. I've created a simple/quick mock-up of what such a t-shirt could look like, but any designer could do something even better. Additionally, if the fansite were able to sell these shirts or other accessories in some type of store, we'd be able to better fund the site, no? Anyways, this is just a thought. What does everyone else think? UPDATE: The following are items that people have expressed interest in for any future 17th Shard Store (this will be updated as more items are proposed): 1) T-shirts 2) Stickers/Decals/Bumper Stickers 3) Hoodies 4) Wristbands 5) Lanyards 6) Water Bottle 7) Pins/Badges/Buttons

New around here; the Roughs were getting rough

Thanks everyone, I'm already feeling quite welcomed! And I haven't been spiked yet. Woot. -
வணக்கம், edgedancing! When I lived in Tamil Nadu, India, my very good friend that I worked with was from Singapore! I've flown through your country, but have yet to visit myself. One day I will, and I promise I won't bring gum.

At least 5 Baba Ji posts in the General Brandon page this morning. Ugh. I hadn't seen any spam yet since joining but now that I Know my options for Baba Ji, I can die unhappy.

These puns are Grand! I've been thoroughly Invested as I Span and Reed my way across each page of the forum. If an assessor were to come and aBraize this thread, he/she'd be totally Thrill-ed. But I better take my Focus and Intent and Stick with what I should be doing: getting back to WoR/K...

Battle Royale would be a lot more interesting (and believable) with allomancy. Kazuo Kiriyama would've been way easier to kill if Shogo Kawada were Wax and Shuya Nanahara was Wayne. Then we wouldn't get the totally ridiculous scene where the three know how to hot-wire cars, race them on uneven/non-asphalt surfaces, and shoot guns all at the same time. Noriko Nakagawa, the initially hella annoying, quiet girl, who in the end is a decent shot, would obviously play the role of Marasi. But only by default.

When I first read this, I thought you wrote "he just shartted himself..." Maybe it's my dyslexia getting in the way, but I'm now inspired to come up with my own really bad shard ideas: 1) Shard of Incontinence This shard yields power to people who cannot control themselves and yields even more power to people who are really good at shartting. In this world, the most powerful will usually be babies and really old people. The company that owns Depends diapers is the Google of the world. 2) Shard of Incompetence The dumb and foolish receive vast amounts of investiture. For example, the leader of the world would probably be someone like Waren Harding or James Buchanan. Those who walk and text at the same time, without any sense of awareness, are highly invested as well.

Ben Landa, welcome! What are your favorite Cosmere/Sanderson books, and why?
-
I would choose the Awakening powers from Nalthis and the Mistborn powers of Scadrial, but choose to reside on Roshar (because the OP said nothing about where you may live, just what one power from two Cosmere worlds you'd like)! My reasoning: according to WoB, allomancy works Cosmere-wide and that you could Push on a Shardblade if you burned Duralumin as well. If that fails, use strong emotional allomancy to influence the person/Voidbringer charging at you while wearing full Shardplate and swinging a Shardblade to move along. If you then include the Awakening powers you'd be pretty unstoppable on Roshar (assuming a non-Returned can use Stormlight similar to Breath as Vasher mostly likely can). With these you could have Lifeless cremling acting like squirrels...or maybe even a Lifeless chasmfiend?! Or even better, Awaken a Shardblade to make Nightblood2.0. Hell, even Awaken the Stormlight infused gemstones a KR needs to just automatically drain their stormlight...straight into you so that you could use it as Breath. Then they'll lose their powers while you'd get stronger. Bam...pure awesomeness!

How did you discover the Cosmere?
Titan Arum replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Cosmere Discussion
WoK was my first Cosmere read, and there were things I had questions about so I stumbled upon the Coppermind wiki. By that point I knew who Hoid was after following the white rabbit known as any wiki. Kinda disappointing, because it would've been fun to learn that on my own! Grr, spoiling myself. -
As a fellow newbie, welcome! I'd concur with Kurkistan and our friendly moderator, Moogle. After reading the Stormlight Archive books and then the Mistborn trilogy, I picked up Alloy of Law. Now I'm reading Warbreaker and after just discovering this forum, I'm now engrossing myself in an effort to sleuth through a mystery/did-you-catch-it-scenario that Mr. Sanderson mentioned about Warbreaker. Fun times!
