  1. Ha. The best part of the opening scene/credits (other than the fact that there wasn't anything good about it) is that one of the Executive Producers is named Larry Mondragon. He was destined to produce a show about The Dragon.
  2. Wait, who has time to buy and read new books when there are so many theories to build and speculate on from re-read's of the Cosmere works?!
  3. This to me just means he has to be the errand boy. For example, he has to go to the bottom of the sea to gather items from the ship wreck. We know from several of his notes that he doesn't enjoy many of his tasks, but reluctantly does them for some reason or another.
  4. Seems like, until we hear otherwise, this is the closest we can get to confirmation! A little bit more triangulation gives us this WOB: I'd say that since we know she's the most Cosmere-aware, she's hired Nazh, and now Nazh works for the writer of the Ars Arcana, we have it all figured out. Now we just need to get someone to bring up all three of these WoB as evidence with Brandon and see if he can actually give us final confirmation. One we have that, case closed.
  5. You, good sir, get an upvote for using an xkcd comic to make a point. Well played, well played indeed!
  6. We're also missing a few Takahata films. Like the most depressing Grave of the Fireflies and Pom Poko.
  7. Huh? I...I don't know that. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I can add maybe two more movies to Left Vash's list (but I won't say them) but I KNOW I can get the bonus one: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
  8. See! See! Can't hurt to guess. I will now attempt to answer yours...I know 14 for sure so the 15th is a guess. 1) USA 2) Greece 3) Great Britain 4) Argentina 5) Australia 6) Cuba 7) Chile 8) Sweden 9) Iceland 10) Cambodia 11) France 12) Russia 13) Norway 14) North Korea 15) ...this is a guess, and I may be thinking of the flag of Ohio, because it's funny shaped too, but: Nepal WLIU: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Nope, just kidding everyone. The real question: WLIU, name 15 animated Disney/Pixar movies. [Edit] Sweet! I got really lucky. Nepal's flag has a very, very small outline of blue! I was indeed thinking of the Ohio flag.
  9. Good job! I'm glad someone else read The Martian, because I thought it was amazing, well-researched, and well-written. Another book I also really, really enjoyed and want everyone to read as well is Wool Omnibus by Hugh Howey. If you haven't read it yet, and you like dystopian SF, give it a whirl. I am beginning to feel like most of my questions are too difficult, but it can't hurt to attempt to answer them. If people fail, the penalty is a funny picture. When I see them hang around for over a day, that's when I change my questions. Which may happen again with the current question!
  10. We know that Brandon probably won't set another book on First of the Sun; however it doesn't mean this will be the last that we'll see of the Aviar and people from First of the Sun. My guess is that whoever the Ones Above are, we'll probably see their story associated with their visits to First of the Sun. Especially if they're from Scadrial, given that the Era-4 books will be set in the FTL time period. [Edit: A friendly forum etiquette reminder: if you want to add directly to something you've just written, try not to do a double post. Instead edit your original post. Cheers!]
  11. 1) Slayer 2) Metallica 3) Anthrax 4) Black Sabbath 5) Gwar That was a relatively easy one! Ok, WLIU: name the 5 cities that hosted the last five SUMMER Olympics. Edit: Clue time, based upon geographic location... 1996: USA 2000: Oceania 2004: Southern Europe 2008: East Asia 2012: Western Europe
  12. 1) The Lord Ruler (Mistborn) 2) Hoid (Cosmere-wide) 3) Voldemort (Harry Potter) 4) Father Paul Dure (Hyperion) 5) Martin Silenus (Hyperion) 6) Father Lenar Hoyt (Hyperion) 7) Nicolas Flamel (Harry Potter) 8) Galladon (Elantris/Cosmere-wide) 9) Denth (Warbreaker) 10) Vasher/Zahel (Warbreaker/Stormlight Archive) WLIU, name the two skills/degrees/specialties/areas of expertise that Mark Watney, the main character in The Martian, uses to stay alive on Mars. Edit: New question, since this previous one may be too niche. WLIU, name 5 empires, dynasties, or civilizations at their height pre-1800. (Example, post-1800: The English Empire, which was at it's height in the early 1900s.)
  13. To the best of my knowledge, Nightblood is a heavy black sword with a silver sheath hooked to the hilt by a clasp. Nightblood also has a hooked crossguard. When I was doing the research to answer your question, I discovered that Nightblood does have a crossguard. In my mind, Nightblood was like a single-edged katana, with a minimal guard. I still think Nightblood is most likely a single-edged blade, but probably not as curved as a katana because of this style of crossguard. So that you have an idea, a hooked crossgurad looks like the following: Here's are several quotes from Warbreaker that help create the general description of Nightblood: Evidence of the weight and clasp that ties the sheath to the hilt: Here's a description of the blade being black: Here's the only mention in the entire book of a crossguard for Nightblood. As a reference, here's a picture of my copy of Nightblood that I use for a Vasher costume. Now that I know it has a crossguard, I may have to jury-rig something.
  14. Nice! I originally was going to say 3, but wasn't sure if people knew there were multiple (4 actually) species of Echidna! I thought for a while there that I killed this thread. I'm glad all it took was an easy question for people to answer to get it going again.
  15. Ha. The stick would sound just like Marshawn Lynch and his "I'm here so I won't get fined". Reporter 1: That was an amazing one-sticked catch you made in the 3rd quarter, how do you practice something like that? Stick: I am a stick. Reporter 2: Your teammates really rallied there in the 4th to overcome the Epics. How did you guys do it? Stick: I am a stick. Reporter 3: The media have complained to the league that you don't go along with press conferences well. Why do you always give the same answer? Stick: I am a stick. Reporter 4: We get that. Why, though? Stick: ... I. Am. A. Stick.
  16. Alright then. I guess 15 was a bit ambitious. I probably should've said 10. I could easily come up with 10 so I assumed others could do 15. Here are some answers: 1) JordanCon 2) Dan Diego Comic Con 3) WonderCon 4) NY Comic Con 5) Anime Expo 6) DragonCon 7) A-kon 8) Baltimore Comic Con 9) SLC Comic Con 10) Fan Expo Canada 11) BronyCon 12) AggieCon 13) London Super Comic Convention 14) Emerald City Comic-Con 15) Phoenix Comicon And now, a new question: WLIU, name 2 mammals that lay eggs.
  17. I thought that he was trying to go back to Boston in May. It seemed coming back to Philly was too up in the air. Maybe I'm recalling incorrectly?
  18. Does this imply that he's been corrupted, since only Sazed is the true Hero of Ages? To date, the two other individuals who have become the Hero of Ages...have failed most epically. Kolbold better be careful, because I now think that all of his reputation to date must be due to Ruin. It can't end well for him...
  19. Tyson, you're making a lot of assumptions in your post. You best be careful, what with Brandon not always playing by the rules that we want to write for him! For example, the best evidence we have points to the OA being from Scadrial; however we could be completely wrong since we don't know exactly where in the timeline Sixth of the Dusk is in the Cosmere. Other world's may have FTL travel at this point OR maybe some secret group that spans the Cosmere, like the 17th Shard, are the OA with FTL.
  20. Bao Bao, I didn't downvote you. That must have been someone else. I've upvoted this comment to counter it. I don't want you to think that that is something I would do, because it's not!I agree with you that we do call "football" soccer. I initially wrote my post calling it football to appease all of the non-Americans on the 17th. On a day to day basis, it's soccer to me! -PS, why'd you change your name to Snoopy? I'm obviously missing something here! Lord Pifferdoo: Ha! As an American, I love that post. However, I have a few quibbles with the pictures 1) That's Beckham's ankle. 2) That's Emmitt Smith's forearm or elbow 3) A Cowboy? A Cowboy?!?! You could've used ANY other player and I'd be okay with it! But a Cowboy?! (Even though I have to admit that Emmitt Smith was probably the original Beast Mode)
  21. Bao Bao, as an American who is a fan of both footballs, I'd call soccer the real version for many reasons. First, the foot is used more frequently in soccer than in American football. Second, soccer is older than American football as a sport and significantly more popular. Thus, there's probably a stronger argument for that being the "real football". Both of these reasons are why I called soccer the real football. Also, I'm sure our international friends in the 17th would not agree with your assessment since American football isn't widely watched outside of, well, the US.
  22. I think Adolin would be your classic "jock" and probably plays American football in the fall, basketball/real football in the winter, and baseball/cricket in the spring. He probably tries to get some time in Australia to play footy too, during their winter and the northern hemisphere's summer. On rainy days he plays snooker and darts. When he retires he'll become a lawn bowler, drinking scotch.
  23. Apparently I know more confederate generals than US...I wonder if that's because I grew up in the town where the first major battle of the war happened? Also, a lot of George's too! 1) U. Grant 2) Robert E Lee 3) Stonewall Jackson 4) George McClellan 5) Jeb Stuart 6) Nathan Forrest 7) A.P. Hill 8) George Pickett 9) William Sherman 10) George Meade 11) James Longstreet 12) ...um, George Custer? What are 12 different common fish found in a home freshwater aquarium? Ok, it's been a day so here are some answers: 1) Goldfish 2) Guppy 3) Platy 4) Swordtail 5) Gourami 6) Oscar 7) Pleco 8) Rainbowfish 9) Rasbora 10) African cichlid 11) Neon tetra 12) Angelfish So, a new query: WLIU, name 15 different fan conventions (spanning across any and all genres)
  24. You were mostly right! Instead of Armenia, it's Khazakhstan! Everything else was good. Good guess!
  25. When you're girlfriend roasts a whole chicken and tells you she put an "aluminum hat" on it and you wonder why it needs protection from emotional allomancy since chickens are only from Roshar.
