  1. The ethics of hemalurgy...written by Spook? Who else, following the Great Catacendre and the Last Ascension would know anything about hemalurgy? Also, we know that the person who wrote this book is very friendly with Sazed because they use his nickname. I'm super glad that the morality of hemalurgy is being assessed. It's a question I've always pondered. The version of hemalurgy by the LTR, in my opinion, is unethical due to its requirement of death to yield an end-negative form of investiture that decays. But is there a better way now that there's Harmony? How many copies of this book exist? How many other people have an idea about hemalurgy? Have people been experimenting with it, as a result? I can't wait to read this book!
  2. I tried to warn you! Hahaha. But just in case, here's some brain bleach for you: I've eaten other weird things as well. What's the oddest thing you've ever eaten?
  3. First, thank you so much for your extended answer! I found it all to be fascinating. I was introduced to synesthesia when I dated a girl who was a grapheme-color sysnesthete. I was fascnated by how she saw the world and was able to memorize strings of numbers and words so effortlessly. Thus, when I first read Warbreaker, I was constantly wondering what life would be like on Nalthis if everybody were synesthetes. What could I talk about for more than a few paragraphs? I'm most passionate about the field that I currently work in, which is international development. I'm currently a development economist trying to determine what type of international aid projects have a real impact so that donors can keep supporting the projects that work. For me, I became interested in international development after I randomly studied abroad while at university back in 2004. I spent 7 months in Ghana, when originally I was only hoping to go to Washington, DC. My step-mother refused to let me go to DC because I'm from there and to spite her I decided to go to the most random place I could: West Africa. That trip changed my life, and for the better. I had never truly comprehended what abject poverty really was. In America you don't usually come across friendly people who have no running water, no health services, a lack of education beyond primary school, not enough food to get by, and living on less than $2 a day. We have poverty, but it's not the same poverty. It just. Yah, I knew I had to do something to fight this atrocity around the world. Fast forward a decade and I've worked on microfinance projects in Vietnam and India. I've evaluated programs on education, health, school-based management, nutrition, keeping at-risk-youth in school, water, access to roads, etc. I've gotten to SEE the world. And when I say "see", I don't mean visit on a holiday. I mean embed myself in these societies, living and working closely with locals, to help empower their populations and see real growth and change. When you know that a project you've worked on has helped send children to school who wouldn't have gone otherwise, or to know that a whole village finally has access to running water, it puts a smile on my face. Maybe, just maybe, these kids will go to university one day and will actually be the ones to help truly develop their countries. I hope one day that my job disappears. Until that day happens, I'll do everything that I can to see it happen. Thus, my next step in life will be to move abroad and live in developing countries permanently. Hopefully while working at USAID as a Foreign Service Officer, developing new programs for the people and societies of the world that can't do it for themselves yet.
  4. What is the weirdest thing you've ever eaten? Mine was...probably too gross and weird so I'll just write it in white for those who want to know...deep fried, pregnant tarantula.
  5. Actually, Curiosity did ask Malliw a question: It seems, though, he forgot to ask a question to ThirdGen. Now here's my question since I've commented: Curiosity, do you have synesthesia? If so, what kind? If it's grapheme-color synesthesia, what colors make up your username Curiosity?
  6. Shadows of Self Prologue!!!!! If you haven't read it yet, then proceed with caution.
  7. Apologies if I came off as brusque. That was not my intention! Now that I re-read it, it does seem that my response is a bit harsh. I myself am not as Realmatically savvy as others either. There are some on the forum who seem to know more than Brandon himself!
  8. You're correct that he does have access to multiple forms of investiture...but I feel like you're grasping at straws if you're implying that this mix of powers will allow him to maintain a Heightening if he stores his breath in something inanimate. That's just not how Awakening works nor would I imagine that any other use of investiture could support. If there are other ways that we actually have evidence for him to do this, then I'm more inclined to believe these instead of using an argument of "who knows it could be anything" to support your initial claim.
  9. As this thread is moving further and further from just being about Warbreaker and Awakening/BioChroma, I'll put my response in spoiler tags. (Maybe this thread should be moved to Cosmere Theories.)
  10. I'd strongly recommend Mistborn before the Stormlight Archive, simply because SA is Brandon's magnum opus. I started with SA, and missed so many things in it because of it's overall importance in the Cosmere. If I had to do it all again, I'd read all other Cosmere books prior to reading the Stormlight Archive...with one exception: I'd probably leave the short story Sixth of the Dusk to the end since it's set the furthest in the future out of all of his works currently published. Kipper mentioned that you should check out the Reckoners RPG. This would be a good idea, but you would probably need to read Steeleheart and Firefight first to understand the basic idea of the world. However, these books ARE NOT Cosmere, but are some of Brandon's most fun. Cheers, and have fun on the 17th!
  11. Given that Hoid can probably use Allomancy and that there is speculation/roundabout WOB a Coppercloud can block investiture, what if we simply don't see Hoid's color aura because he's constantly burning copper? Seems like a smart thing to do if you have the 17th Shard trying to track you and there are other Worldhoppers around as well, like Vasher, who would recognize a color aura. If I were Hoid, I'd do whatever I could to not be detected, and if copper could help out with this, then by the God Beyond/Unknown God, I'm burning it.
  12. OMG! It's Milo and Otis. One of my favorite movies while growing up. Who doesn't love a coming of age story of two separated best friends, a pug and an orange tabby?
  13. Is it something that we've actually seen in every book or novella, or is it just an assumption that it exists on every world?
  14. Is it a force or an unseen element/gas like Oxygen or CO2?
  15. Is it something that exists outside of the Cosmere as well? Is it gravity? Is it investiture-based?
  16. You answered it correct while I was responding to the others! Yes, the Tai-na!
  17. Much larger than a horse because it is a greatshell. It lives in water but not under it. Not a whitespine and I don't think the Purelake has a greatshell but you're probably thinking about what the answer is!
  18. No Significantly larger than a human I don't know how many legs it has because it's never specified. I'd assume more than two, probably at least 4
  19. Alright everyone. I've got the next one. And, gasp! It's Cosmere!
  20. Is it Vin's earing? Is it the piece of sword pierced into Spook's shoulder? Is it Marsh's eye spike that gets pushed further into his eye? Is it a blessing of potency or a blessing of presence?
  21. Is it a metalmind? If yes, is a coppermind? Does one of the main members of the crew use it regularly? Is it a hemalurgic spike?
  22. Is it on Scadrial? Is it a metal? Is it an atium geode? Is it strongly associated with a singular type of misting?
