'Course, sometimes we use atium if we're unsure... And I hear that chocolate is a good source of iron! Have a cookie!

And his puns still work? My jealousy is fighting for supremacy with my awe... (As a side note, I would love to learn that all of Hoid's wordplay was accidental, and the jokes he tried to make were lost in translation.)

Awesome Cosmere Babysitting
Shardcellist replied to Kobold King's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. (I could go one step further and say that knowledge is power, and we of the Seventeenth Shard have too much Cosmere knowledge for our own good. Perhaps this explains some things. You know, Hemalurgy, the Dark Alley, this thread...)- 91 replies

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Shardcellist replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
When a friend misspells "casual" as "causal" in a text and you wonder if she is proposing. Fortunately, I introduced her to Sanderson books a few months ago, so she'd already read the Stormlight Archive and I was able to explain the joke. -

Battles awaiting in Stones Unhallowed (BEWARE SPOILERS)
Shardcellist replied to Twenty@20's topic in Stormlight Archive
See, I'd really like to see Dalinar vs Kaladin, but I think it would be better with Blades and Stormlight. Of course, Dalinar would have to find a Blade somewhere, but that just makes it all the more exciting. Words of Radiance: * -
The status of Aether of Night
Shardcellist replied to WeiryWriter's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Maybe it's just that I finished Aether of Night mere hours ago, but this is the best news I've received all week! So, would the basic story, setting, and characters remain the same with only the writing being redone, or will everything be completely different (I really like it how it is now...) -

Dog [dawg, dog] noun 1.a domesticated canid, Canis familiaris, bred in many varieties. 2.any carnivore of the dogfamily Canidae, having prominent canine teeth and, in the wild state, a long and slender muzzle, a deep-chested muscular body, a bushy tail, and large, erect ears. Compare canid. 3.the male of such an animal. 4.any of various animals resembling a dog. 5.a despicable man or youth. 6.Informal. a fellow in general: ------------------------------------------------------------- noun, plural wolves [woolvz] 1. Any of several large carnivorous mammals of the genus Canis, of the dog family Canidae, especially C. lupus, usually hunting in packs, formerly common throughout the Northern Hemisphere but now chiefly restricted to the more unpopulated parts of its range. 2.The fur of such an animal. 3.Any of various wolflike animals of different families, as the thylacine. 4.(Astronomy) the constellation Lupus. 5.The larva of any of various small insects infesting granaries. Debate away! Let's see... I definitely am way too into this stuff, I like the forest more during the day, but the night is best if there is a clear sky and an open field. Neither dogs nor wolves are invertibrates; my favorite is the Chasmfiend (chulls are okay too). If I had a form of Investiture I would probably be a Lightweaver based on my characteristics (and both Surges would make particle physics even more fun), but I would really like to be able to fly. Welcome to the madness that is the Seventeenth Shard! Would you like a cookie? (Awesome title, by the way.)

LDS Influences on Themes (Theology Time)
Shardcellist replied to The Rooster's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Just a thought, but be sure not to hold everything here as an exact doctrinal point; much is being paraphrased or taken out of context. I would recommend looking up the information elsewhere if you want to be sure. One thing I noticed was Shallan's response to Jasnah's talk with Taravangian. Her belief was based on the feelings of her heart, similar to how we believe that God manifests truth through the Holy Ghost. Thank you all for such a thoughtful discussion! -

A wonderful first theory! Congratulations! That being said, there is some other relevant information: (I don't have time to find references now, but I can find them later if you want.) A few spren are of Honor, a few are of Cultivation. Most are part of each. Some (we don't know which) are Splinters of Adonalsium Itself. Then, of course, there are the Voidspren; however, the evidence presented in the novels and WOBs (some of which was listed above) is overwhelming enough that they are of Odium that I would personally require conclusive evidence to believe the contrary. There was (or is) an opposing something (I don't recall the exact word and hesitate to place connotations Mr. Sanderson did not intend) to Adonalsium. However, we don't know if this is another pseudodeific mostly-all-powerful being, a religious or political faction, or a single individual. We also don't know if Adonalsium was Shattered in response to this Something. Hoid is not a Shardholder, neither is the dragon/Recipient. The WOB on this is pretty straightforward. However, good work; to my knowledge, this was the general consensus before it was disproved. I personally believe Odium is the unexpected villain. Remember, aside from us Cosmere-aware Sharders, few know of Odium's existence besides the use of the word in The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance. They don't know even of his reference in the Letter; Rayse is mentioned there by name, not Shard. All we have "seen" are the Voidbringers with foreshadowing of possible Unmade to come. Well, there's my two cents, take it as you will.

Just some points in favor of Shallan... If she does multiple Lightweavings, Bronze detection could become a bit messed up. This is especially true if she Invests Pattern to hold one Lightweaving while she herself does another one or two. Jasnah reading Again, having a Shardblade that a) cannot be Pushed or Pulled and can change form near-instantly is a big advantage Vin will have to work hard to counter. I'd have to hark back to Mr. Sanderson. Does Vin have atium? I think the answer depends on a lot of variables: Does Shallan have her Shardblade out, or is she able it to summon it to surprise Vin as she did Tyn? Does Vin have atium? Are they indoors or outdoors? How much metal is around the area? How much reserves do each have? At what level of Vin's training are we taking this into account?

Ah, a fellow chess player! I'd offer you a game, but, well, we're two oceans and a continent apart. Which book is your favorite? Would you like a cookie? Storm you, Fatebreaker. Speak of the madness... By the way, is the Dark Alley selling hats now, too?

Hemalurgy Mechanics of Cookies

Dieting iron ferrings love our Dark Alley cookies. They make it so much easier to lose weight. -
Levity. One is perfectly straight-faced when storing; jokes and giggles have no visible effect. Tapping, well, leads to uncontrolled, rolling-on-the-floor laughing. (For an example, watch the Princess Bride, Cosmere Rewrite.)

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Shardcellist replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Generally, darkeyed women go around wearing only a glove; it is not considered indecent per se, but the lighteyed women (especially those of higher dahns) hold themselves to higher standards. Consider the following: The Way of Kings, Chapter 3: City of Bells The Way of Kings, Chapter 6: Bridge Four The Way of Kings, Chapter 16: Cocoons (Note that the girl mentioned is Laral, so it seems that young lighteyed ladies may also only wear gloves.) Words of Radiance, Chapter 42: Mere Vapors Words of Radiance, Chapter 43: The Ghostbloods The first quote, in my mind, seems to describe it best.
