So what does everybody think about this?
-
Make sure to read the long-version profile for it afterwards. If it's right, everything should click.

Just me rolling at home. Oh. Really? I had no idea. No, I'm not particularly competitive about forum traffic or anything. It's just that the only place that played this game online that I knew of was Mistborn: The Inquisition, which I'm pretty sure focuses specifically on the Roleplaying elements.
-
Yeah, that definitely does sound fun. Anyone else thinking of something different?
-
Alright. Well, in that case, I suppose our characters are mostly created. Does somebody want to pick a crew concept and starting location?
-
No, that's fine. Great, in fact. I've played the game before, but only with people who've never read the guidebook themselves.
-
-A group of mercenaries hired to defend a Great House's operations in the Remote Dominance? -A thieving crew trying to accomplish... something specific? (+kandra) -A pack of fugitives who escaped from an imperial labor camp? (+kandra) -A group of "bandits" in the far Eastern Dominance?
-
Yep. Everything on there is going to come into play at some point, though the effects of Tragedy and Destiny are a bit more vague than the others... I'll shoot you a PM explaining what it all means.
-
Yeah. I made up the culture comparisons for most of these places, but that's actually in the FE annotations.

Alright. So where do you want to start? Here's the various regions, according to the MAG and my worldbuilding: -Central Dominance- already talked about so much in the books I don't feel any need to expound. Culture: Mixed -Western Dominance- A series of highlands. Was home to the Cenni Culture prior to The Ascension. It has a strong polytheistic religious tradition which was only partially destroyed by the Final Empire. Culture: unique -Northern Dominance- Also mostly highlands. Very industrial. Similar to the Central Dominance but dominated by the Ventures. Culture: German -Eastern Dominance- A dry, flat, wasteland, very rich in metals. The Final Empire has a strong military presence on the Seran Lakes to try and counter bandits from the Outer Dominances here. Culture: French -Southern Dominance- A fertile, breadbasket region. Dominated by large plantations. House Hasting is very powerful here. Culture: Italian -Farmost Dominance- A rugged region of forests and mountains. There are plenty of unincorporated settlements here holding the detritus of society. The Final Empire considers them "bandits" and Koloss are let relatively loose to destroy them. Culture: gaelic -Terris Dominance- Also mountainous, and relatively free. The nobles who "rule" the Terris pastoralists can't kill them on a whim, they just sort of collect taxes. The breeding programs consist of a large group of soldiers and obligators that come through the villages every few months to check that things are going well. Culture: unique -Crescent Dominance- A desert region of sandy plains and rugged rock formations. Bandits are common here, and many of them claim to rule as independent kings. Culture: arab. -Remote Dominance- A hot, forested, region. The main trade is in furs, which are shipped back up to Magora and then into the main Empire. Slekh Pirates operate from out of this Dominance, and Koloss are set loose to deal with them. Culture: russian. -Southern Islands- An archipelago set in a hot, stormy sea. The three main islands (from northwest to southeast) are Soro, Castiya, and Magora. The ocean trade is plagued with pirate cabals. It generates lots of luxury goods, and is the only region of the Empire that is both prosperous and relatively free from Imperial rule. The individual Houses dominate instead. Culture: spanish colonial. And here's the format for characters, Joe:

And I see you're already busy making pages. Thanks. This is a much better solution than having a separate thread for holding information.

I don't suppose we really need any additional threads aside from this one and a pinned library thread, but it would make sense to have one for societies if we're doing multiple library threads.

Well, it depends on where we end up. In Luthadel, things would be more conservative (so, say, Inquisitor Axes are definitely off-limits,) but in the Remote Dominance, nobody cares. I wouldn't worry about stats right now, other than to say that they're basically just power, charisma, and intelligence on different scales. No, the "crew" doesn't have to be homogeneous, though that's also situational. If you were playing as, say, a noble house, homogeneity would make sense. Also, on't forget that Kandra are playable! I always do.

Here's the crew members: DenPai (Edgedancer): Kady (Kadrok): Ruseed Konsue (Unodus): Wilor Zerrung (Mailliw): Arsenowick (Kammemerite):

What? Nah. These things aren't projects we need to feel pressured to work on, just little things we do for fun to catch every single possible memeable event in these stories.
-
Well, since Ripple hasn't updated Memelantris for a while, I thought it would be fun to give this thing a shot:

Well, yeah, and if you think about it that way, perhaps the only thread we'd want besides this one would be Diaemus-Library. I've done about half the work on the Empire in the mediterranean climate so far. Here's the cultural half of the material (if anyone actually cares, that is,) since none of our current extraneous threads are for societies. Torbud Empire

I assumed that the dancing girl a few months before the SoS prologue was the real Lessie, the person Paalm decided to imitate.

8 years ago, Washington County, Arkansas Orange Crush smashed open the door of the cabin, allowing light to flood in and illuminate the vanillas hiding inside. He summoned a force field to block any bullets that might be fired at him and examined the room's occupants. A man. A woman. Two kids. No quarry. Sparks. Did he get the location wrong again? That happened sometimes. But no. The man holding that shotgun did bear a passing resemblance to Elizabeth. This was her family, which meant she was probably here. Crush dropped the field and lifted himself up onto the roof. And then smashed through it, landing in the center of the room he'd just left. As the insulation fell around him, Crush summoned a ball of orange light and spun it around, breaking limbs and knocking the shotgun out of the man's hands. He deliberated for a moment, then shoved the ball forward into the woman's face, pasting her brains all over the wall. Screams. Bliss. He yanked the fallen shotgun towards him with a plane of orange light. "Alright, folks. I'm pretty sure you know who I'm here for. You obviously can't kill me, so could one of you just be a peach and tell me where she is?" He chose the older boy, age eleven-ish, and began strangling him by lifting him up with a collar of light around his neck. The nine-ish kid was screaming hysterically. Not helpful, kid. The guy, on the other hand, attempted to stand up and tackle him, something that was kind of difficult with a broken leg. He gave them a few more seconds to cooperate, though he didn't actually expect them to wise up. He sighed, then threw the older kid onto his father and began focusing, imagining a circular blade of light, sharper and sharper as he went into more detail. He pulled it into existence, then whirled it around, beheading the whole lot. The room became covered with streaks of blood. Silence. There was nobody left to make any noise. And then... a faint squeaking, like a sliding door being opened. Crush grinned, smashing through the far wall to reveal a kitchen, complete with family photos, portable gaming systems and refrigerator magnets from Crater of Diamonds State Park. The sliding door had been left open. Crush examined the pantry, not feeling any need to hurry. There was a certain game to killing, after all. He might as well let the object of his hunt get a head start. He took a swig of chili. He'd have to come back here after he killed Liz, maybe snatch a 3DS if it still had any power left. These people were kind of rich. From the patio, he could just barely make out a little red hoodie running through the woods. That'd be her. Last person on his kill list. What would he do with his life once he was done with this whole business? Probably move back to Texas and take over a small town. He lifted himself up and sped forward, accelerating rapidly. Within seconds, he had passed her. He dropped onto the ground and gave her a good look at him. Liz was about his age, very pretty. Really pretty, actually. For a second he considered... but no, getting physically involved with people was dangerous for him. He made an orange collar around her neck instead and lifted her up into the air. "Yeah, sorry it has to end this way, but I just couldn't letcha live. You know too much." She made a confused gurgling noise, pretty much all she could manage as he choked her. "Well, you don't know what you know, but you do know it, you know? No?" He smiled at his little joke. Homonyms were funny, right? Well, Lizzy didn't seem amused, anyway, but whatever. She was about to be dead, so it didn't matter. He started walking back to the ruined cabin, pulling her along in the air beside him. He gave it a good twenty seconds or so. "You know? I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel kinda bad about this, though. I sorta wish that no one had to die, but the problem is... I'm a good person." She stopped struggling, running out of air. It looked like she was seconds from death. "The greatest person, in fact. Greatest sparking person on earth. No one can ever seem empathize with my narcissism, though, so I guess you'll just have to trust me. It's for the greater good. Goodbye Elizabeth." Crush snapped back awake. What'd just happened? He had... he'd fallen asleep! He fumbled for his face, checking for the orange-tinted lenses that protected him from ruin. Still there. No nightmares tonight, thankfully, just... his rending. Or pseudo-rending, perhaps. His actual rending had left him feeling rather unfulfilled. There were still so many people who'd known about his weakness that he'd felt compelled to finish the job. Two months of tracking down and killing his family, and four more for his schoolmates. Witness Protection had tried hiding them about halfway through month two, so he'd had to torture the information out from that point on. The Capitulation Act had put an end to that whole mess, and the last few killings were actually pretty easy. But sparks. Liz. He'd forgotten about what he'd said at the end of her... murder. Had he really said he was good? Ridiculous. He was lucid again. That happened sometimes when he hadn't used his powers for a while. The narcissism wore off, and... well, it was a painful experience, to be confronted with who he really was. He could brood in this state. He could think about his actions and determine which of them were wrong. He could make promises to himself that he knew he couldn't keep. Or... or he could just give up. Slowly, he raised his hand and summoned a ball of orange light to illuminate the cell. Immediately, his heart stopped sinking. He smiled to mock the ruminations of his pathetic state earlier. Who was he kidding? It's not as if anyone was any better than him, morally. So that's how they found him, that morning, when they came to take him to Reader's office. Grinning stupidly in the faint glow of one of his force fields and asking if they were offering a free continental breakfast.

Did you mean Scadrial? Because there are definitely giraffes on Scadrial.
-
Yes and yes. Don't worry, I understand exactly what everyone's been saying. I'm not trying to start a new thread, control the broader fate of Oregon, or set canon for any city or region not yet created. This is a very self-contained thing about a small town on the very edge of the state, with one or two interactions with my own characters as it travels primarily through the woods. I never imagined it as anything else.
-
Yeah, I know that there isn't too much interesting stuff out there right now, but part of the fun of this concept to me is experimenting with just how crazy the wilderness of a post-Calamity Oregon could get. All of that stuff would be a result of the Epic Apocalypse. Right. I wasn't really asking for a separate thread for this or anything, it would just be a subplot written by me, similar to Paladin in The Dalles thread, and I was wondering where it would go. Probably FF's, as even though I was intending for it to be canon, that's where Ven's thing went. I was planning to keep it pretty self-contained, so don't worry. The Epic in question would be a powerful projector, capable of creating tangible versions of himself with different, random Epic powers, and he'd be expanding out of Idaho mostly eastward, but sort of westward. The characters don't know how far he's come, though, so they avoid cities.
-
A full thread? Hmm... probably not a good idea, unless some other people want to join in, I guess, though that wasn't my original intent in bringing this up. So I might just leave it in FFOO, using a whole lot of double-posts (though the doubleposting is part of what's bugging me.) That's where Ven's thing was going to go, after all. Mostly, I planned to have them avoid population centers for a more "quest-y" sort of journey. They'd be out in the wilderness coming across castles and whatnot, and facing off with apparitions of the Epic who's attacking Eastern Oregon.
-
Well, pretty much all of our current plotlines are concentrated in the Northwest, and I was imagining the characters (only 2-3 Epics) being from somewhere in the far east, like *googles map of Oregon* Richland or Halfway. The real question is whether something like this fits in with the attitude of the RP. It would have a centralized plot line after all, so I'd definitely be writing it myself, with little to no interaction with other peoples' characters. My instincts say it's a fanfic of Oregon subplot, but I'm sort of hesitant to put it there because FFOO feels like it's only semi-canon (well, calling it even semi-canon might be pushing it a bit ,) and I'm planning to have this whole thing interact a bit with some of my characters as it travels through the state. Should I just embed it in another thread, like The Dalles? It will probably interact the most with Orange Crush, after all (you'll see,) and that was where the Paladin subplot was put. This will be a tad longer than Paladin's, though.

So... recently, I've been thinking about starting a "quest" style plotline where a group of people get teleported away from their home, and have to journey back to fight the Epic who conquered it. It would be more plot-driven than character-driven, and would (hopefully) have some interactions with the other Oregon cities. Where do you think that would go?
