Greetings and Welcome to the Shard! Probably just a lack of experimentation, Id say. Godmetals on Roshar are either innately alive or they come as a direct Gift from the Shard itself like with the Honorblades or Raysium, and surges were pretty heavily regulated by their Shard(s) directly. Other than Trellium showing up during Autonomy's attack on Scadrial (and that could just be due to the metal-centric nature of the metallic arts specifically), I dont think we've actually seen any others, though we do know they exist as a matter of cosmere theme. That probably shouldnt be a barrier all on it's own. The same can be said for Godmetals and taking on Investiture, and there's still a strong possibility that Aluminum sinks Identity without actually Storing it, so Trellium might do something similar. I dont think there's anything addressing the Burning retcon or it's possible implications on Feruchemy. The Devil's Advocate statement is just that all Feruchemy (even on a godmetal) might still require Scadian sDNA and not be impacted by universality of Burning a godmetal. We still dont know how one might Gain feruchemy so there might simply be ano0ther piece to it.

Favorite non-radiant Stormlight Character? [Poll]
Quantus replied to Aredor's topic in Stormlight Archive
Adolin's my favorite right now, thanks to RoW he feels like he's the closest thing to a paragon in the stories but is staying on the right side of the believable line thanks to his various showcased flaws. Axis is probably the most Intriguing non-radiant at this point, he's sitting in the background as such a disconnected mystery that Im desperate for any details. He's right up there with the Black Fisher in that regard. Im in interested in Ryn's storyline, but I think it's more for what else is involved (Dysians, Dawnshards, ChirChir) than her as a character. -
I think trying to feed a Divine Breath with White Sand is a lot like trying to run a pottery kiln with body heat. White sand is charged by the ambient waste Investiture around other effects, it's got to be the lowest density storage we've seen by orders of magnitude.

Why could lift heal people in RoW?
Quantus replied to Walter The Moral's topic in Stormlight Archive
Agreed. I think it was the same basic reason Venli was able to use what surges she had access to, since she (for her own weirdness) can use either Voidlight or Stormlight. -
I think they will try a couple times, really get their butts kicked because Ishar does NOT play fair (and they dont want to feed him to Nightblood). Meanwhile, Szeth is working through his Cruisade on the leadership of Shinovar, and when he completes it and gets that Spiritual Ideal boost, Ishar will get a chance to fix the magic part of his madness, (and/or join Kaladin's therapy group), becoming an occasionally useful mad-mad for the Radiants (Walter Bishop style).

The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
Quantus replied to Lighteyed Lieutenant's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Im dating myself but I always think of a scene in the 90's Spiderman cartoon when they introduced both the Red Skull and Capt America. They'd been trapped in some pocket dimension since WWII but were still actively grappling with each other greco-roman style....for literal Decades. Eventually Id just stop and have a conversation. Deep down they must have started to enjoy the dance, ya know? -
The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
Quantus replied to Lighteyed Lieutenant's topic in Cosmere Discussion
For the sake of the bystanders (ie the Cosmere as a whole) they agree to a series of simple contests, best 2 out of 3. First is a stand-up contest, Hoid wins, Chuck never stood a chance concedes in a classy way. So for the next contest Chuck challenges Hoid to The Silent Game. Chuck lasts several millenia before Hoid runs entirely out of Cadmuim, then he cracks in about ten minutes and starts telling a story. Finally they agree to a simple arm wrestling contest. Hoid brings all his collected magics to bear, Chuck brings his arms. The resulting forces of their stalemate contest breaks the realms. They both fall through the newly formed perpendicularity and were never seen again. -
I think I'd go with a shape-modified Aon Edo: "Aon Edo creates a thin wall of light. The wall serves as a barrier, drawing more power from the Dor to resist anything pushing against it with equal strength." It already creates a solid object of light that draws additional Dor to resist physical forces. Just modify the shape to be a rod of adjustable length and some sort of Off switch. Daa would work for a gun/bow/ranged weapon, but I think it's too explosive to be easily made into a melee weapon.

I dont think a Lightweaver can manipulate Steelsight since it's an extra-sensory perception that doent have anything to do with actual Light. I suspect A-Bronze would have difficulty detecting Lightweaving for the same reasons that those Detector-spren could not detect Lightweaving but could other surges: It's realmicaly "quiet". But just like learning to detect Feruchemcial use, I think they could do it with practice (and maybe magically heightened sensitivity from Tin).

Do Drabs have less Investiture then normal humans?
Quantus replied to Hmmm lies's topic in Warbreaker
Yes. The average Nalthian is born with more than a person elsewhere, but when the Breath leaves it drops them below cosmere-standard. Which is more or less Earth standard, we are not Drabs, -
My money is on Invention's Planet itself being something fairly unique that they Created with a particular Purpose in mind, along the lines of the "Roshar is a Fabrial" theories. EDIT: Alternatively, it's populated by a metal automaton race.

Do you think magnets would hold onto shards?
Quantus replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Possibly but that feels off since there already exists the broader distinction between static and kinetic Investiture that mimicks that behavior, consistent across all shards and systems. -
Spoilers for Hoid (with a side of White Sand, Warbreaker, and Stormlight 5 sample chapters), but: However that may only be effective with Kinetic Investiture. For Investiture that is statically stored in a Physical Object, I think you'd need a repeatable/mechanical Push rig, something that emits a very static/repeatable Push something upward, and measures the Resistance To Investiture By Investiture as evident by distance it moves (and/or the gravity equilibrium point). But that would be limited to metal object, and really just to spikes and metalminds. You could probably do the same thing with a (Stormlight spoiler)

Do you think magnets would hold onto shards?
Quantus replied to Tamriel Wolfsbaine's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Headcanon accepted! So to the OP, the question is whether the Cultivation alloy in Rosharan Shardblades and Shardplate would also be that Orderly and thus magnetic, or if it would introduce too much variation and prevent it (the way Nickel and Chromium do in Stainless Steel). -
It's probably also the difference between having a bunch of Investiture stuffed into your physical body vs having a shard of Living Investiture Bonded directly to your spiritweb.

I believe there is precedent that Hemalurgically created mistings can pass the powers on (that was the Set's plan, right?) and if Power spikes can add to the bloodline sDNA, then attributes seem likely too. So bloodlines with naturally over-sized attributes: above average Physical Power (Pewter) or heightened senses (Tin) might start becoming breeding traits. And once that happens they'd be capable of bigger things with Feruchemy (though they may need to stick with Medallions to keep the Interference effects from coming into play).

The big question here is if Harmony changes a specific group/generation of Koloss to be the progenitors of the Half Koloss Race, or if he actually tweaked the magic to let spikes create Subraces. If it's the former, then a new Koloss could be made from Spikes (Era1 style) and it would not be able to make Half-Koloss Children. If it's the later, then we should theoretically see other Hemalurgic Half-races someday, and any sDNA-based powers, ability boosts, etc. should also enter the bloodline.

An Investiture Black Hole Perpendicularity seems likely, or at least some sort of astronomical shardic object, like a nebula of manifest Investiture in some mix of the three phases. Come to think of it, there's a good chance that it would manifest Red, and be visible from pretty far away....

Only for metals that are on the allomantic chart and can be burned by a mistborn. Other metals like Mercury wont burn. That being said, he's toying with a retcon that Mistborn dont actually have to worry about Metal Poisoning, at least for the allomantically active metals: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/4/#e5178 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/182/#e3839 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/412/#e13599

Both, I think, though I cant be sure. For example, a Steel Spike in the eye grants MetalSight, but in the sternum it might grant the actual Physical Allomantic Power. It would still need to be the chunk of Spiritweb that the Spike itself was charged with, but it is confirmed to do different things depending on where it is placed. But I think you still have to have the Intent to steal a specific thing, so I dont think you can just make a "Physical Powers" spike that would grant A-Steel in one location and A-Pewter in another.
-
As far as we know you cannot spike objects, even the bead and flames of actual things. WOB implies you could Spike a Spren, but that you'd need to physically travel to Shadesmar and do it to their native form. You can steal the Bond that way (though the spren could still just End it), but you cant Create a new Connection with Hemalurgy.
-
Nothing so complex needed for the spike itself, the same (ordinary) spike can potentially have different effects when moved from bind point to bind point.
-
-
9. They can use their shapeshifting to move Hemalurgic spikes to different Bind Points at will, offering a nigh-infinite suit of possibilities for hemalurgic manipulation.

Yes, with those circumstances. This version of Immortality is mostly just More Time, without the dehumanizing pitfalls that are so often explored when you loose all potential Danger and all motivation along with it. This is closer to what I call the Highlander mode of immortality, where Death is still relevant and literally hunting you, but rather than being powerless against Cancer, you can always either Train (with a sword) to Fight Death, or just Hide from it (on Holy Ground). You really just dont die by Time or by Accident, just by a very specific contest you can prepare for and reasonably expect to defeat. Anything beyond that is just Time to Live more, See more, Do more, and Share more with the people of the world. I'd have a degree in every major branch of science, and finally learn all those languages and musical instruments I never make time for.
